It's easy to feel alarmed when we read the headlines... Especially when it comes to the immigration crisis. Current estimates suggest over 100 million people have been forcibly displaced from their homes. Many of them desperate to enter the United States - legally or illegally - which causes many people a lot of concern. But what if we could balance the need for secure borders with compassion? What if we could engage with the crisis in a way that reflects the Christian values we cherish? In this episode of The Living Room, author and human dignity advocate, Bri Stensrud shares from her book, Start With Welcome: the Journey Toward a Confident and Compassionate Immigration Conversation. She gives practical tips on how to align your heart with God's heart for hurting people yet still advocate for secure and safe borders. Key Takeaways: Find Out What God Says: Let Scripture shape your view on immigrants and refugees. From Genesis to Revelation, God cares for all, including the vulnerable and outcast. Seek Connection Over Fear: We often fear people different than us. Get to know immigrants' personal stories, and discover the humanity that headlines often miss. Start Small, Start with Welcome: Making a difference doesn't require grand gestures; it begins with small, intentional acts of kindness that demonstrate God's love. Rather than getting caught up in politics and safeguarding "The American Way," let's open our eyes to the opportunities to love those around us. It was the tangible, yet practical love of God shown by Christians that changed the world 2000 years ago. And I believe that's how God wants to change the world today. Summary Bri Stensrud, founder of Women of Welcome, and author of the book, Starts with Welcome: The Journey Toward a Confident and Compassionate Immigration Conversation, discusses her passion for the immigration conversation and how it changed her personal and professional life. Bri reflects on the disconnect between the evangelical culture she grew up in and the reality of the immigration issue, and how it led her to question her faith, politics, and personal life. Takeaways The immigration conversation is complex and goes beyond legal and illegal distinctions; it involves understanding the holistic stories of individuals affected by violence, corrupt governments, and civil war. The evangelical culture often prioritizes self-preservation and curated spaces over sacrificially living for others, which can lead to a disconnect between faith and compassionate action. Compassion for immigrants and refugees is not a political stance but a prophetic movement rooted in the teachings of Jesus. Engaging in the immigration conversation requires holding elected officials accountable, advocating for change, and recognizing that no political platform aligns perfectly with pro-immigrant values. Meeting people where they are in their understanding of immigration issues is important for fostering compassion and understanding.
Do you feel the pull between protecting your family and kids while having compassion on the orphan and the widow who are crossing our borders? Do you feel confused about immigration laws and sustainable immigration practices? Today Bri Stensrud, author, human dignity advocate, and the Director at Women of Welcome shares her heart on immigration. She began her career as a pro-life advocate and after going to Mexico and seeing the reality of so many women and children, compassionate care quickly became her mission. Bri tells us that we can advocate for secure, safe, and legal borders and also the dignity of those arriving here in America. Fear and confusion can often cause us not to engage in the conversation or the communities around us but the Lord has called us to be salt and light. Stick around for the end where she gives practical ideas on how to reach out to those who have fled from desperate situations to bring friendship and hope. The wave of immigrants and refugees at the border has filled the news, and will most likely influence the next presidential elections. But what's really happening there? And how should American Christians make sense of this issue? In the first of two episodes on this topic, Curtis is joined by Bri Stensrud, Director of Women of Welcome, a ministry that helps American evangelical women understand what's happening at the border in light of Scripture and current reality. They talk about why Christians should care about the border, the common misconceptions in play, and how opening our minds and hearts on this topic changes us.
My guest for The Happy Hour #380 is Bri Stensrud. Bri is the director of Women of Welcome, a Christian community that pursues Christ-like welcome to immigrants. Bri has so much experience in many different human justice and advocacy spaces. From protecting the unborn to adoption to holistic pro-life views and immigration, Bri is someone who leads with compassion. Bri is a dear friend and someone I admire so much for the work she is doing for vulnerable populations. I love getting to talk with her as she challenges me to look at things harder and longer, and it always shows me that there is more than meets the eye. In today’s episode, we talk about her expanded view of pro-life and what it means to act as different parts of the body of Christ. Bri also touches on some of the criticism and loneliness of having a holistic pro-life view, and the strains it can cause in relationships, churches and families. The holistic pro-life view tends to be criticized because of a political gap - people who advocate for social justice generally tend not to advocate for the unborn and vice versa. But Bri teaches us that it can truly be both/and. I love so much when she says “You’re going to confront people in your family, people in your church, people in your community who are not going to understand what the love of God compels you to do. But you should do it anyway.” For the full summary and links to the show, click the link below! How should Christians care for immigrants and respond to the divisiveness surrounding immigration policies in the United States? Briana Stensrud, director of Women of Welcome, talks with Amy Julia about her journey from working in the pro-life movement to working with immigrants, biblical hospitality, and what extending welcome to immigrants could look like today.SHOW NOTES:Briana Stensrud is a human dignity advocate and the Director of Women of Welcome. Being against abortion was not enough.”“You have law enforcement handling a humanitarian crisis, so instead of treating vulnerable people as a specific vulnerable population, what you’re doing is trying to meet that humanitarian need with a military response, which is such a mismatch because you’re asking border patrol to handle toddlers, and their job is to thwart and find those who would seek to do harm to the country or enter illegally.”“Women of Welcome…we are a community of Christian women who are looking to enter into this issue from a biblical perspective. What is Christlike welcome? What is biblical hospitality…immigration for us is a biblical issue; it’s not a political issue. What that does is it frees us up to engage and enter into this space and speak very transparently and honestly about the policies that are affecting vulnerable people no matter who’s in charge, no matter who the president is.”“We want safe borders. We also want compassionate treatment of those who are made in the image of God.”“When you move to this Kingdom mindset of what God cares about, you move off of this “country” or “empire” mindset that says, ‘Citizenship first. America first.’”___Thank you to Breaking Ground, the co-host for this podcast.Head, Heart, Hands, Season 4 of the Love Is Stronger Than Fear podcast, is based on my e-book Head, Heart, Hands, which accompanies White Picket Fences. De finnes over alt.

In this episode we dive into the world of real estate development and the use of LED conversions to save money and drive returns. Joining us is Judd Stensrud. Judd is the founder and CEO of LUMEN GLOBAL. The firm uses energy efficiency to help drive real estate returns. Judd has an undergraduate degree from Duke University in economics and an MBA from the University of Chicago. However, it wasn’t until he got to Costa Rica in the early 2000's that he began to truly grasp the impact of costs within a vast portfolio of income producing real estate. Using these tools later in his career, Judd Helped renegotiate a half billion dollar loan with The Bank of China, Was the lead asset manager for The Plaza Hotel in New York, and Led a process where Bill Gates and the Four Seasons Hotels invested over $300 million into a project that was his brainchild. Recognizing the typical reasons that investors miss out on maximizing their profits led him to found Lumen Global. Background- Tell us a little about how your Costa Rica experience and how that impacted your view on managing real estate. How did this and your other experiences lead you to found Lumen Global?Process What does Lumen do to add value? While Lumen Global utilizes a number of energy efficiency measures to help increase your bottom line, we believe there is not a better available tool than converting to LED lighting technology. Why? What is Your Process? Energy Efficiency measures drop 100% to your bottom line. Most deals have an IRR of 50% to over 100%. Cash outlay, if any, is generally returned within one year. We are a turnkey process… no work for your team. How? We begin with a lighting analysis. We feel the best place to invest your money is through LED light technology. We count all lights on your property. We come back to you with an analysis. We estimate how much you are spending per year buying lights and installing them. We show your total spend on lighting per year and how much you will spend after converting to better looking LED technology. Our analysis will show the turnkey cost to convert to LED. Our professional bonded and insured electricians install the new material. We process all incentive paperwork and use this to decrease the total job cost. See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

We open 2020 with a month-long series On Human Dignity exploring the implications of this theological truth on life, ministry, and the public square. On this week's episode, we continue the conversation by welcoming a longtime friend of the ERLC, Briana Stensrud to share her stories of standing up for the vulnerable. Her career is a testament for how the human dignity ethic connects to more issues than you may think. Guest Biography Briana Stensrud is the Director of Welcome and lives in Colorado, with her two kids and husband of 11 years. Like many moms, her days consist of balancing work, community involvement and quality time with her family. (Moms with littles know that's professional speak for strategically muting your phone during conference calls, constantly reheating coffee and taking the kids to Chick-Fil-A, a lot). Her passion is to equip the Church to think biblically and pragmatically about exercising a holistic, comprehensive pro-life worldview. Throughout her work in the pro-life movement, Briana continually faced questions from those concerned about immigrants and refugees. Understanding that many concerns were rooted in fear and misinformation, she started a journey to re-discover God's heart for the sojourner. She holds a degree in communications from Iowa State University and a Masters of Biblical & Theological Studies from Dallas Theological Seminary. Aquariumania - Tropical Fish as Pets - Pets & Animals on Pet Life Radio (PetLifeRadio.com)
Sustainability and conservation of the earth’s aquatic resources are critical to our planet’s health. In the aquarium hobby, there is constant debate over the pros and cons of wild collection vs. aquaculture. Aquarium trade leaders understand that both, when properly managed, can be sustainable and promote conservation, and that industry and public education are key. My guests today are Alan Luken and Shelby Stensrud, Associate Brand Managers at Segrest Farms based in Florida. Join us, as Alan and Shelby discuss conservation and sustainability in the aquarium industry. EPISODE NOTES: Segrest Farms’ Alan Luken and Shelby Stensrud Discuss Conservation and Sustainability in the Aquarium Trade with Dr. Roy Yanong
There’s a tide turning in the United States. It’s not as loud as partisan media voices blasting from the TV, but it matters more. Briana Stensrud is helping make way for Christian women to embrace what it means to be fully pro-life, specifically as it relates to welcoming immigrants and refugees. She helps lead Welcome, a community of women committed to creating a movement of Christ-like welcome in our country. It all goes back to loving the sojourner, Biblical hospitality, believing in the Imago Dei (every human created in God’s image), our call to be peacemakers and to continually invite the orphan, widow, marginalized and oppressed into love and safety. It was interesting speaking with Briana about her work within the traditional pro-life space as it relates to ending abortion, and seeing how she transitioned to focusing on a larger, comprehensive pro-life ethic. I loved when she said, “You cannot scripturally justify prioritizing one vulnerable population over another.” She has a Masters in Biblical and Theological studies from Dallas Theological Seminary so the woman knows what she’s talking about when it comes to scripture. See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
