Sarah Armstrong—forever Sarah Oakden to me, no matter what the legal documents say—isn't just my best friend. She's my first college friend, my musical theater soulmate, and the first person who truly saw me as an artist. She was there when I walked onto Binghamton's campus, and she was there when I walked into cancer hell. And, because we're nothing if not in sync, a few decades later, she got her own cancer badge of honor, and I was right there with her every step of the way. This episode is a love letter to friendship, music, and those moments that change your life forever. We nerd out over Sondheim, Binghamton's infamous "Theater 101 with Dr. Susan Peters." and the weird and wonderful rabbit holes that turn into entire alternate realities across decades of aging gracefully and falling with style. We talk about how cancer is the worst club with the best people and how surviving it together just adds another verse to the song we've been singing for 30 years. It's funny. It's real. It's a master class in love, laughter, and musicals that should have been bigger; with a big tip of the hat to Nancy Ford and Gretchen Cryer for their acclaimed musical "I'm Getting My Act Together and Taking It on the Road"Oh, and RIP to the legendary Denny's on Vestal Parkway. You will be missed.FEEDBACK:Like this episode? Rate and review Out of Patients on your favorite podcast platform. The weather is warm again, so Taking It to the Streets is back! In this edition, I ask random men, women, boys, and girls if they watched the NCAA women's basketball tournament, which players stood out, and where they see things progressing from here as the WNBA season approaches. Of course, Caitlin Clark was a huge part of the discussion. It was also interesting conversing with those who had little or no interest in women's basketball. Great way for The Adrienne Ross Show to wrap up the collegiate basketball season, and it's always fun to interact with others. Enjoy—and drop your thoughts in the comments!Prefer to watch? In this episode of "Saint Louis In Tune," hosts Arnold Stricker and Mark Langston interview James Fishback, the founder of Incubate Debate. They discuss the significance of debate in education, the problems with high school debate formats, and the inception of Incubate Debate to offer a nonpartisan platform for students. Fishback addresses the challenges of judges' biases and the need for diverse viewpoints in school libraries. Townhall Review – March 2, 2024 Hugh Hewitt and Fox News host Bret Baier highlight a surge in Chinese males of military age crossing the US border, raising concerns about potential infiltration, while discussing broader immigration issues. They doubt Joe Biden's border visit will change public perception of his policies. Hugh Hewitt and Byron York of the Washington Examiner discuss the political ramifications of both Biden and Trump visiting the border. They criticize Biden's policies, which have caused this open border nightmare. Bob Frantz highlights a horrific case involving an illegal alien charged with various serious crimes, questioning the impact threshold for such incidents on policy. Peter Kirsanow, of the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights, provides statistical evidence suggesting significantly higher crime rates among illegal aliens, underscoring the need for policy consideration. Seth Leibsohn and James Fishback, author of a recent piece at The Free Press, Fentanyl Is Killing American Kids. Most Don't Even Know They're Taking It, have an extended conversation on the alarming lack of awareness among America's youth regarding the dangers of fentanyl, with Leibsohn criticizing government inaction and prioritization of issues like COVID over the fentanyl crisis, which claims numerous lives daily. They highlight the urgent need for public awareness and government intervention to address this escalating public health crisis.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

In another edition of "Taking It to the Streets," I made my way down Broadway to the Mississippi River in Missouri to talk to random people. My goal was to ask them if they were elected president what would be their first priority, and I followed up with what they would do first locally if they were mayor of their city. Discussions ranged from Donald Trump to the media to faith to jobs to race—and more! This was rich! I even "disturbed" a couple out on their first date! One guy joined the conversation because he overheard another guy say, "All Democrats hate America." There is absolutely nothing like talking to folks—and that's what "Taking It to the Streets" is all about! This episode is also available to watch on YouTube, which I highly recommend for all “Taking It to the Streets” segments. It's cool to be able to actually see the people I've stopped to speak with. When I shared a random college student's participation in this show's "Taking It to the Streets" episode during which he discussed his freedom from a ten-year addiction to pornography, he received criticism on social media. Why would something that is obviously a good thing elicit mockery? Let's talk about both his testimony and what the negative reactions reveal. This episode is also available to watch on YouTube here. It's my birthday week, and I begin this episode with some reflections on turning the big 53. Then I dive into a few political topics—namely, former President Donald Trump's disturbing comments about abortion during a Meet the Press interview; Sen. Chuck Schumer's decision to get rid of the Senate's dress code, which conjures up images of Sen. John Fetterman's attire; and Facebook shadowbanning me.This episode is also available to watch on YouTube at [Insert link]. The Adrienne Ross Show has stepped into something new. It's called “Taking It to the Streets.” Welcome to the first of what will hopefully be many such segments. Taking It to the Streets is about getting out and talking to random people about the issues—hearing what they think, not what other people, especially the establishment media, tell us they think. This segment covers two days of being out there. The first day, I went out on Broadway. The second day, I was outside Southeast Missouri State University (SEMO). The topic: politics. Enjoy, and leave a comment for someone to read and respond to; it's your engagement that will help make this the special place I endeavor to cultivate! This may be an episode you would prefer to watch. Episode 45 While at the National Religious Broadcaster Convention in Dallas, TX I got to spend a few minutes with the delightful Dr. Paula Price. In this episode Soulologist Dr. Paula Price describes the various types of relationships and how to reconcile them. She reminds us that marriage is actually not a relationship! She defines it as God does – do you remember what He says about marriage? She discusses how people with wounded and broken souls wreak havoc on all kinds of relationships, acquaintances, points of contacts and service providers simply based on the brokenness of their souls! She says the secret to our success is within our souls! Which leads one to wonder how does a soul become more successful? Well it isn't with more money, more religion, more rules, but rather going to the source of our soul creator! Dr. Paula Price is a speaker, author, talk show host, inventor, educator, executive coach, and minister known for empowering her audiences to “think differently and live powerfully. If you said this prayer- you are justified immediately and made right with God.Living a life to glorify God is a life- long journey! But know that right now you are saved and set free from the bondage of sin (including past, present and future sin). Nothing can separate you from the love of God and living in eternity with Him. Dennis R Wiles FBC Arlington June 27, 2021 2021 A JOURNEY OF FAITH Celebrating 150 Years of Ministry: Appreciating Our Past Anticipating Our Future JUNE 2021 Faith-Filled Families June 6 – July 3, 2021 Taking It to the Streets! James 2:14-26 FAITH-FILLED FAMILIES Trust God! Treat Each Other Well! Teach the Word! Taking it to the Streets! James 2:14-26 What good is it, my brothers and sisters, if someone claims to have faith but has no deeds? Can such faith save them? Suppose a brother or a sister is without clothes and daily food. If one of you says to them, “Go in peace; keep warm and well fed,” but does nothing about their physical needs, what good is it? In the same way, faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead. But someone will say, “You have faith; I have deeds.” Show me your faith without deeds, and I will show you my faith by my deeds. You believe that there is one God. Good! Even the demons believe that—and shudder. You foolish person, do you want evidence that faith without deeds is useless? Was not our father Abraham considered righteous for what he did when he offered his son Isaac on the altar? You see that his faith and his actions were working together, and his faith was made complete by what he did. And the scripture was fulfilled that says, “Abraham believed God, and it was credited to him as righteousness,” and he was called God's friend. You see that a person is considered righteous by what they do and not by faith alone. In the same way, was not even Rahab the prostitute considered righteous for what she did when she gave lodging to the spies and sent them off in a different direction? As the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without deeds is dead. FAITH: It all begins with sincere faith. FAMILY: It is where we live! FRUIT: Our faith bears fruit through service!

Establishing a business has come a long way from traditional print media and newsletters to online platforms and social media. As an entrepreneur, it is essential to build a successful online brand to reach your target audience effectively. By leveraging the power of social media branding, not only would you build a network of following, but you could also create strategic partnerships with other entrepreneurs. µIn this episode, we'll discuss the most effective ways to run an online business with Dr. Buck Parker, a surgeon and e-commerce entrepreneur. He also shares his experience and insights on the evolution of online market trends. If you want to know how you can optimize online branding, don't forget to tune in to the podcast! About Our Guest: Dr. Buck Parker is an emergency and trauma surgeon in Salt Lake City, Utah. In 2007, he started an e-commerce business while in residency. Since then, Dr. Buck has established his name and brand on YouTube and Instagram with over 200,000 followers and subscribers. He helps high school and college students learn how to stay focused and motivated long-term in studying. Dr. Buck's Insights on Establishing Your Online Business and Social Media Branding Doctor Turned Entrepreneur His family of business owners influenced him. Even while still in med school, building a business was always in the back of his mind. During his research year in residency in 2006, he started researching about online businesses and e-commerce stores. He stumbled upon ebooks for sale and took inspiration from it, spending about six months researching and building his website. He optimized email marketing and used Google AdWords to market affiliate products. The product was in demand at that time, so his competitors spent more money on their marketing. He slowly drifted out with the changing environment. Taking It to Social Media When he finished his residency, he released his weight-loss course. When he was cast on a TV survival show, people from all over the world were asking him information about being a doctor. It gave him the idea to take it to social media. Within nine months, he gained a following of about 100,000 on Instagram and nearly 50,000 subscribers on YouTube. He then realized that he could monetize it. He built a video course on how to study effectively for students, especially those who want to get into medicine. Phases and Milestones In the beginning, he did his own SEO by writing articles and creating backlinks. He also did personal ads. The first phase helped him understand how everything works together. So when he hires someone, he knows whether they're doing a good job or not. Then, the second phase is learning that you can't be an expert at everything. The third phase is realizing you can't do everything alone; you can't go big without strategic partners. The Power of Social Media Branding and Influencers The best thing you could do with your money is to have influencers promote your products. This strategy helps build your brand's reputation. He explains that it is a “slippery slope” because some influencers don't know their value. If you do it right, however, it can be powerful. The Biggest Mistakes in Running an Online Business The mindset of doing everything on your own. You have to make mistakes and learn from other people. Trying to focus on too many things. The Future of Online Businesses In the next 5 to 10 years, Dr. Buck thinks that there would be a lot more “sneaky marketing.” Marketing would be more personalized and specific to a niche or a market. Being a Doctor and an Entrepreneur He looks at patient experience, like selling in customer service. Some surgeons don't like his channel because it seems too raw for them. However, Dr. Buck says it's his way of speaking to his market. Habits to Success Learning is lifelong. “Nobody's successful at anything they don't like.” You can reach Dr. Buck on Instagram. Subscribe to his YouTube channel to learn more about what he does! P.S. Do you already have a successful business, meaning you're up, running, and paying your bills with some profit left over? Summary and review of: Gottfried, Robinson, Scott. (2019). Taking It to the Next Level: A Field Experiment to Improve Instructor-Student Relationships in College. AERA Open January-March 2019, Vol. 5, No. 1, pp. 1–15 https://journals.sagepub.com/doi/pdf/10.1177/2332858419839707 Transcript: Nearly 50% of all undergraduates in the United States do not graduate. This study suggests the improvement of instructor-student relationships as an effective means of decreasing this percentage. Instructors and students were both surveyed comprehensively on their personal lives, community involvement, and preferences regarding student-teacher interactions. Students and instructors with commonalities were then paired and continuously reminded of their commonalities, asked brief questions about the details behind their answers, and information on how they might use these similarities to foster meaningful interactions throughout the semester. These interventions did not increase student retention or exam scores, and did not decreased drop-out rates within the group of study. However, the exploratory analyses involved in the study provide evidence that instructors tend to report more positive relationships with high-achieving students, and that a given student is more likely to report a positive ISR (instructor-student relationship) than the instructor involved. As an aspiring high school educator, maintaining positive instructor-student relationships is paramount to my work. This article encourages me to take care in how I handle and display these interactions, in order that I treat students with equal respect and value, providing each student with the academic challenge and guidance needed for the thriving of each individual student. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/thumbthrough/support
Show Notes Episode 185: “If You Try Sometimes, You Get What You Need” This week Host Dave Bledsoe mixes up a Blue Wave at the bar, which is a drink containing some kind of blue mouthwash and vodka from a plastic jug. (It taste worse than it sounds) On the show this week, we analyze last week's election only to discover things are better than you think they are. (Unlike Dave's Blue Wave) Along the way we talk briefly about Jeff Sessions being fired. (YAY!) and what happens to the Mueller investigation. (Boo!) and what we can do about it now that we won the House. (Yay!) Then we talk about Liberal disappointment and why Liberal can never be happy with the things they have. (They are a lot like Billy Idol, the more, more more!) We check out the big wins we did win and the big wins we didn't win but were still a victory. (Our logic is solid, we promise.) Finally, we talk about what comes next. (We enjoy a nice glass of eggnog!) Our Sponsor this week is Uri's Unicorns, delivering the fantasy when reality just won't. We open the show with some Brony Porn and close with Lone Bellow in an entirely predictable but apropos closing song. Brandon and Jerry interview Sara McDaniel from the blog SimplySara.com about simple living as bigger living, significance from service to others, getting out of our comfort zones, and lifting herself from the rut of divorce. How are you currently living to get out of your comfort zone?"A simple life is a bigger life." - Brandon CunninghamJeff Goins' Wrecked Vision Trip in GuatemalaSara took a leap of faith out of her comfort zone by joining Jeff Goins and other strangers on his Wrecked mission trip to Guatemala where she served the needs of those who lived in the lowest level of poverty she had ever witnessed. A Bigger Life by Serving OthersWhile she is someone who travels throughout the United States of America for her day job, this was her first trip to a foreign country. The trip changed her in a way that she continues to serve the needs of those in poverty back home in Corpus Christi, Texas through her church's Taking It to the Streets ministry.Sara's revelation that led her to living a simple life and serving those in poverty involved a realization that she was living her life initially to the expectations of others. Status symbols, career ladders, and family status are no longer the metrics she uses to measure the impact of her life. Music has always been a special part of my family. Like my father, and his father before him, I am musically inclined. I am proficient at playing the drums, organ, piano, bass, and guitar. I began to follow in my father’s footsteps at the age of seventeen when I took a keen interest in playing the piano. My grandfather, James Aubry Walker Sr, greatly inspired me to play the piano. The style and sincerity with which he played had a profound impact on my spirit, even as a child leading into my adult life. I have always wanted to play like him, in a slightly more urban way. I began to write and compose music in my senior year of High School. At this moment I am a musician in Taking It to the Streets Real Gospel Music, a music group made up of myself and my younger sister and brother. We have recorded one album, in which I play the organ and compose the music to the lyrics. I wrote my first song in 2008, entitled “I Will Worship Thee, O Lord”, which I dedicated to God. I feel that my entire musical career should be dedicated to God because it was God who bestowed this gift upon me. Tragically I lost my grandmother May 16, 2009 this ultimately, pushed me to write music even the more. My aspirations in life are to get signed to “BIG MACHINE RECORDS”. I love the artists that are a part of this label, and I am anxious for the opportunity to contribute my own unique style to this label for fans to love. My songs contain a male’s point of view on life and relationships rather than a female point of view, as in Taylor Swift’s Fearless album. Because my family is so diverse, I can reach out to a broad audience. Ultimately, I feel that my music consists of a central power strong enough to reach all different backgrounds, races and cultures of people.
