Philipp Blom in conversation with Ivan Krastev TWENTY-FIRST CENTURY VERTIGO There is a widespread feeling that the early 21st century, our own time, is torn between two world orders, one decaying, the other not yet established, or not yet understood. The crises of Western democracies, increasing polarisation, a new aristocracy of the super rich, and populist revolts against all kinds of elites and the return of widespread political violence, are symptomatic of powerful forces tearing apart a world that seemed stable. But which powers are behind this? How important are migration, economic globalisation, new wars and new alliances, digitisation, smartphones, and artificial intelligence in this mix? Ivan Krastev grew up in a time of revolution in Bulgaria and has made it his life's work to understand what drives them and how to protect and encourage liberty in a rule-based order. Series host Philipp Blom is fascinated by turning points in history and believes that our present may be the biggest of them all. Philipp Blom speaks with Ivan Krastev about the social, cultural and political tensions that may well end democracy and usher in autocracy, and what can be done to strengthen both individual potentials and social cohesion in a time of crisis. Ivan Krastev, chairman of the Centre for Liberal Strategies, Sofia, and Permanent Fellow at the Institute for Human Sciences in Vienna (IWM)Philipp Blom, historian and author of several novels, journalism, politics, and philosophy. He also works a radio presenter, documentary film maker and as a public lecturer. Recorded on 22 October @MQLibelle, Museumsquartier

Book Presentation Viola Raheb in conversation with Hind Kabawat, Randa Siniora and Heidemarie Winkel WOMEN'S POLITICAL BIOGRAPHIES IN THE MENAT REGION At the end of the conference at the Bruno Kreisky Forum in November 2023 on „Women's lives and agency in the MENAT Region- between political activism and realism“, women from different countries and backgrounds were invited to shed light on their contexts, socio-economic and political developments, violence – especially gender-based violence – in times of war and its impact on women's lives, engagement and agency. With the rise of populism and reactionary movements, women's rights seem to need to be renegotiated. As a result of polarization and ambivalence, listening to and understanding women from the MENAT region is becoming less important. In many Western countries, a hegemonic perception of the lives and work of women in the MENAT region prevails and a knowledge deficit compared to other regions of the world, e.g. Latin America, still exists. The book aims to give female political actors from the region a face and a name by using biographical essays as a method of knowledge production and awareness-raising, while promoting synergies and advocating the need for networking and cooperation. „Eleven biographies from seven different countries from diverse generations, backgrounds, and areas of engagement are presented in this book. In their biographies, the contributors address political developments over the last decades in their countries and the region. Historical political phases, be it the end of the colonial rule and the phase of independence in Tunisia, the Baath-rule era and the war in Syria, or the Palestinian Nakba of 1948 and the continuing wars and displacement of Palestinians, become embodied in the lives of the women narrators and how these phases shaped and still shape their lives and work.” Viola Raheb, Co-Editor Welcome:Getraud Auer Borea d'Olmo, General Secretary of the BKF Introductory remarks:Ursula Plassnik, former Federal Minister for European and International Affairs, Ambassador ret. Hind Kabawat, former deputy head of the Syrian Negotiation Commission's Geneva Office and a former member of the High Negotiations Committee (HNC); President of TASTAKEL women's organization for women's empowerment and peacebuilding Randa Siniora, General director of the Women´s Center for Legal Aid and Counselling and Palestinian human rights activist Heidemarie Winkel, professor of sociology at Universität Bielefeld and senior research associate at the VHI/St. Edmund's College, Cambridge University (UK) Viola Raheb, scholar of religious studies lecturer, writer and Senior Fellow at BKF

This is a press record and talk podcast about my journey in business from 2011-2021. It goes through my failures, my successes and how both were equally as important as each other on my journey. “If you're going through hell, keep going” – Winston Churchill I qualified in 2011 and made three separate attempts to get my business up and running. Renting a gym and seeing ‘0' in my bank account for the first time How I spent 2014/2015 in the gym trading time for money (and used competing as leverage to build more awareness) Reading Crush It and starting social media in 2014 2016 was my first 6 figure year The next logical step - scaling up my business model with the BKF online program (then my top 50 program) I niched the GAA Lean Body market and ran a major ad campaign on Facebook to move up another level Transitioning into other markets with courses and programs to serve my current audience The reason I started the podcast and how I used it to grow my brand and leveraged that to speak (corporate and then my own seminars) Getting rejected by 14 publishers for The Fitness Mindset and the route I took after Writing my first book as a pre-qualification for my program Hiring more people (full time and freelancers) to continue to scale up and get my time back to focus on my IGT's. (income generating tasks) How you can do it - niche, test things, bud a brand, be consistent and patient but pivot when things aren't working Check out my online business courses: How To Start, Build and Grow Your 1:1 PT Business https://briankeanefitness.com/one-to-one-pt-course/ How To Move Your Personal Training Business Online https://briankeanefitness.com/online-business-course/ How To Scale Your Online Health Or Fitness Business (1:1 to 1 To Many) https://briankeanefitness.com/how-to-scale-your-online-fitness-or-health-business/

This episode is completely different from others! I made a mistake in my industry, owned it, and it turned out really well! I'm a member of various cleaning groups on Facebook. One of them is called Professional House Cleaners, run by my friend Angela Brown of Savvy Cleaner. There are over 10,000 cleaning service owners active in this group to share lessons and best practices for the benefit of our industry. That's how it's supposed to work. We are all a part of the same industry and we understand that a rising tide, rises all ships.I typically go in this group a couple times a month to skim the posts, learn, and answer questions. At any given time, there are thousands of brand new cleaning owners that have very basic questions like... "How much do I charge for this house?" "How do I clean this shower?" I don't typically engage with these questions. I like to answer deeper science or people-related questions. Well, I was on Facebook late one night and thought I'd skim a few recent posts. I saw a dozen or so of these basic starter questions and scrolled past. Then I stopped to answer a few newbie questions that were mindset or science related. It was late. I was tired and admittedly, I didn't read the entire posts. I got to this guy, Mark Baker. He had a post on the use of Bar Keeper's Friend in kitchen sinks. I barely read the post, made the assumption in my tired state that Mark was a newbie, and answered why BKF works using basic cleaning science. Then I shut down and went to bed.In the morning, I had a personal message from Mark Baker. Here's what it said."Hi Ken.. thanks for your comment on my post. I felt a bit like you were talking down to me a bit with it and I wanted to reach out and let you know. I know you run a business assisting cleaning pros and I'll be listening to you at the maid summit. Just wanted to note that my post didn't insinuate I don't know the science of cleaning. I actually built my business from solo to 1.87 million in annualized sales (before pandemic shut down) in under 5 years in a very small market with just residential and now have a national company with cleaning pros in dozens of cities across Canada. We are well educated on the science of cleaning from HCT training to GBAC training, to pretty much every cleaner training program out there and have our own program which combines them all. I don't put that out to the group much as I enjoy learning and I am a cleaner at heart and every single day the group teaches me new things and I love interacting with my industry peeps. With all that said, i'll check out your solo cleaning tribe website. I wanted to share as most would appreciate the comment but for some of us it can come across as condescending as you made an assumption I wasn't in the know and you were. Looking forward to checking out your site!"I immediately felt terrible about what I had done. I wasn't trying to put Mark down. I just made an assumption in my tired state and he rightly called me out on it. Here's my response!"I'll have to read my comment and will edit it. I never want to infer arrogance. I'm very sorry about that and thank you for bringing it to my attention. It was late and I rarely go into the other groups lately. I was answering questions and saw your post on the sinks and BKF. I prefer the creme version. Congratulations on your success and I really like your desire to stay 'new'."I followed this up with 2 voice messages directly to Mark explaining and apologizing again. Then I updated my comment on his post. I didn't delete it. I owned it by typing "update to original comment", followed by an public apology to Mark and a better explanation of my full answer to the cleaning science I mentioned.Read the rest of this article at the Solo Cleaning School website

Bar Keepers Friend is a favorite among professional house cleaners. And today we talk with Chrissy Roark, from SerVaas Laboratories about Bar Keepers Friend. BKF is great for every cleaning caddy because of its many uses. You can use it for #cleaning pots and pans, stainless steel, aluminum, chrome, copper, porcelain and fiberglass. Other powder cleansers like Ajax, Bon Ami, and Comet while great to clean bathrooms don't have the gentle oomph of Bar Keepers Friend. Bar Keepers friend is not gritty and won't scratch fine surfaces. This makes it a favorite with Airbnb hosts as well. Hey ya'll! Happy Homegirl Thursday! This is the last episode of 2016 and I am excited to have it be about Finances! For those that have New Year's Resolutions and intend on starting fresh for 2017, you're in for a real treat! Here is a quick rundown on who I interviewed today, Jarim Person-Lynn from Brass Knuckle Finance ! Jarim Person-Lynn, is the Author of Brass Knuckle Finance & This is Why You're Broke. Founder and Wealth Coach for The Winner's Circle LLC. Jarim Person-Lynn knows all too well how the trappings of debt and poverty can derail the dreams of the inner city youth. Growing up submerged in the flossy and flashy L.A. culture through the late 90s/early 2000s and taught to buy first then think about how to pay for it later, he found himself ultimately working day and night to pay off someone else’s life. By 2007 he had found himself in $550k worth of mortgage, credit card and car loan debt. After a few false starts and partial escapes from old ways of thinking, Jarim got completely fed up with his situation in 2009 and vowed to eliminate the “Keeping up with the Joneses” status quo that had tried to claim him and so many of his friends both financially and emotionally. Beginning with free in-person one-on-one financial consultations with thousands of blacks and latinos in L.A., he would go on to also use social media to build a client base of over 1,800 for The Winner's Circle. He would also put together 5 informative books filled with everything he had learned working with so many Blacks & Latinos in getting out of debt. Now with a clothing line called "Ekonomics" that supports his signature message of “Buy Less, Live More. Screw the Joneses” along with the introduction of free weekly financial classes in community centers in and around Los Angeles, the only thing standing in his way is the very mentality of every person he is attempting to save. This time, however, its war. Further info on the various BKF programs as well as The Winner’s Circle Group can be found on www.BKFUniversity.com. He can also be found on Instagram , Twitter and Facebook We talk about EVERYTHING. from rental properties, when to hire an Accountant, leveraging student loans to get a mortgage, whether credit repair companies are legit, how to be a hybrid entrepreneur and starting a business, andddddd Polygamy with respect to finances. LOL Yes. Polygamy. I am also giving away 2 copies of Jarim's E-Book, "Brass Knuckle Finance" and how to win is in this episode as well! This is a longer episode so feel free to take notes, or you can brew some hot cocoa or hot tea, and kick back, relax, and listen!
