Matt Medeiros starts 2019 and the second part of Season 8 with his interview with Dan Maby. Dan is a self-described wearer of many hats and is the director of Blue 37, a digital agency based in London. He recently founded a new community called WP&UP that supports and promotes positive mental health within the WordPress community. Through Dan's agency Blue 37, he helps WordPress users move forward with their business. In addition to ALL of that, Dan is the Lead Organizer of WordCamp London and four meetups across the UK. Listen to the episodes Matt Report - A WordPress podcast for digital business owners Mental Health with Dan Maby of WP&UP Play Episode Pause Episode Mute/Unmute Episode Rewind 10 Seconds 1x Fast Forward 30 seconds 00:00 / 00:42:15 Subscribe Share RSS Feed Share Link Embed Download file | Play in new window | Duration: 00:42:15 What you will learn in this Episode: WP&UP Matt – Why WP&UP? What started the initiative for this organization? Dan – Realized that there was a real need for WordPress users working in isolation. There can be a lot of issues working alone either as a Freelancer or an employee of a company. After working in the WordPress Community for 8 or 9 years, Dan decided to start a charity that could address some of these issues. He brought the non-profit charity, WP&UP to the WordPress Community to help with all types of mental health issues. The organization started with friends and trustees who wanted to help. Matt – Discusses how difficult this is to set up for the WordPress community because many remote workers work in different countries and in different cultures. It would be great for the WordCamps to participate and announce this help at their conferences to raise awareness. Dan – The charity was difficult to set up for a global community. Because of the physical locations of many remote workers, you often don't know the struggle of the person who may be afraid of the stigma towards mental health in their country or culture. Social media does not really help entrepreneurs who work alone. WP&UP operated unfunded for 12 months. The organization recently passed as a charity in 2018 and a video was created and posted to the community. This opened the floodgates to the WordPress community. WPMUDev started the monetary support with the initial contribution. Many other companies have opted in with support. Now programs are in place to keep the charity funded over the long haul. (10:38) Matt – There are many areas to address with working in isolation.  How do you approach connecting and mentoring people virtually? Dan– The challenge is to find the “right” level of support.  You can offer a mentor or buddy, but it is such a sensitive subject. Support can range from professional help with your business to psychological services that a person may be struggling with.  Mental health struggles may impact a person at any time with no outward signs of a struggle. There is an additional impact on the broader community when they have no idea that somebody is struggling and would also offer help. (19:08) Change in WordPress and the Blue Collar Digital Worker Matt – The market has changed a little which is impacting the lower end of the WordPress market. People are finding it easier to build websites. (26:44) Dan – Because of the changes with WordPress the digital agency is now challenged on how to market to clients. The clients are changing and the tools available to them have broadened. The freelancer and agency need to concentrate on providing great services. (27:11) Matt – The release of the Gutenberg editor is creating a level of reeducation with the change of the editor to blocks. A user needs to understand how the front end and back end work together. There is a learning curve with Javascript development. (29:03) Dan – Education is always a good thing and evolving. Education is not new and the new projects coming in are very interesting. It may be rocky for a while and some people may leave WordPress and dive into something new. It is important to not go after the shiny new toy when diving into something new. (31:37) Marketing: Matt  – There are challenges around marketing. Dan– WP&UP really wants to work with individuals in the community.  The organization is set up around 4 Health Hubs: (33:00) Code Health – improve the quality of your products through training courses. Business Health – develop your business further with a mentor, Mental Health – receive support through those dark times, Physical health – build emotionally and physically. There are individuals in the WP&UP organization with specific skill sets. There are four legal trustees.  There will be additional individuals added as the need of the community continues to grow. The challenge for 2019 will be continued monetary support and the growth of the WP&UP program. It is a great program for the WordPress community who may find themselves struggling. MIXES – Ambientblog

"For me, personally, a mix has the most impact when it feels like I'm watching a movie. With ups, downs, some drama, sentiment, moment of joy, climax and anticlimax. And yes: tension and release." --- originally published on Ambientblog --- When I started working on this mix, its working title was Wonderlust, simply because I liked that word: a variation on wanderlust ('a desire to travel') which the Urban Dictionary describes as 'the desire to be in a constant state of wonder'.But as the mix progressed, the title didn't fit very well. There were too many dark and unsettling moments... moment that may evoke their own 'state of wonder' but of a completely different kind. The Questions in Anja Garbarek's track are crucial to this mix and gave it its title: a few simple questions to diagnose severe psychotic disorders, a delusional state of mind. There may be quite a few of these delusional moments in this mix, but they are alternated with moments of joy in an almost melodramatical equilibrium. The moment I heard Rami Malek whisper "Mind awake, body asleep" (Mr Robot, series 2) I knew this would be the inspiration for a new mix. A mix about half-sleep, lucid dreaming impressions... ungraspable images... and about "letting go". After all, Mr. Robot's tagline was "Control is an Illusion". Control proved to be an illusion indeed, with these different, unrelated, fragments coming together like pieces of a puzzle, creating a mix "like its own cinematic score." Gärna i melankoliska, mörka sjok. DJ Djuna Barnes spelade i Tokyo och i New York. Spellista: SIGNATUR Wintergarden Maja S.K. Ratkje Maja S.K. MIXES – Ambientblog

Because of the drones, atmospheric field recordings and insect sounds, this mix will be labeled as an 'ambient' mix by most listeners. And of course it is.... but at the same time it isn't. It simply isn't 'unobtrusive' enough to be 'ambient'. An hour-long journey of scene changes, meandering between *Kitsch* and *Kult* - a bit more 'psychedelic' than 'ambient', in fact. --- originally published on Ambientblog --- This particular mix was created as a submission to Secret Thirteen's 'New Blood' invitation to send in 'kaleidoscopic mixes' for their mix series (that's why their logo is in the image). The '41' refers to the number of track samples that are used in this mix. Today James welcomes Josh Foer to the podcast. Josh is a U.S. Memory champion, award-winning journalist, and bestselling author of Moonwalking with Einstein, which details his journey to becoming a U.S. memory champion.                                            ============ Special Note: Both Josh and James will be presenting LIVE at next month's Stansberry Conference in Las Vegas. If you're interested in joining them and over 30 additional speakers for two full days click here. This year's Conference will take place at one of the newest and most luxurious destinations on Las Vegas Boulevard -- the Aria Resort and Casino.                                         ============   Taking some of the ancient memory techniques he learned during a yearlong trip to Europe, Josh was quickly able to master techniques that have not yet made their way across "the pond." Having this advantage over American competitors allowed him to become very successful in a short amount of time. Once he brought these European techniques back to the U.S. and started sharing them, the U.S. record for memorizing a deck of cards went from  1 minute 40 seconds to just 30 seconds. One concerning question that comes to mind for both James and Josh is whether some of the modern technologies in our current world are reducing our capacity to remember things. Is Googling making us less smart? And this is not a new question, it dates all the way back to the days of Socrates, and the advent of the written word. These concerns may be valid, but it often just means a change in both how and what we remember. One of the most common questions that Josh gets is about remembering people's names. For this he has a great memory hack: Create a secondary association with the thing you're trying to remember. For people's names this can be a funny association with the sound of their name. For prose, associate it with a song or rhyme. Anything you can do to give your brain another method of associating will help you better recall it later on. This mix is made to be published in the excellent series of mixes on the "Sounds of a Tired City", part of the larger website with the same name.Inspired by the site name, I decided I wanted to try to create a sonic 'walk' through a 'tired' city. To me, this concept also applies to mixes that include ambient and drone fragments... where the listener gets immersed in sound in such a way that all notion of time is lost; where music could last for minutes, or for hours. --- originally published on Ambientblog --- Playlist:start time - sample length - Artist - Title(Album Title, Release Year, Label details) 00:00 04:30 Samora - Uranium(Lontano, 2014, Tranquillo / Psychonavigation TRAN005)03:38 04:21 Witte Ruis - Droon 1.1A(Places, 2014, Lomechanik LOMEK025)06:03 04:56 Orphax - Mantophasmatodea(Oniscus Asellus, 2014, self-released)08:26 02:33 Alvin Lucier - Music for Gamelan Instruments, Microphones and Loudspeakers(Resonance 9.2, 2002, London Musician's Collective RES 9.2 )09:21 02:07 Francisco Lopez - Untitled #240(Untitled [2009], 2011, Baskaru Karu:20)11:05 02:26 Ulises Conti - M(Los Griegos Creían Que Las Estrellas Eran Pequeños Agujeros Por Donde Los Dioses Escuchaban A Los Hombres, 2014, Flau FLAU41)12:36 03:29 Marina Rosenfeld - New York/It's All About(P.A./ Hard Love, 2013, Room40, RM430)15:39 01:05 Paul Schütze - Sacred Agents(New Maps of Hell, 1996, Big Cat ABB 104 CD)16:00 02:00 Brunette Models - Nie Bryza Targane Poczwary Glebin(Impressions of Whispers, 2009, Jamenda 057363)16:30 04:10 Jacaszek & Kwartludium - Sigh (Les Peupliers)(Catalogue des Arbres, 2014, Touch TO;94)19:30 03:34 Slim Vic - Divalater (Part 1)(Brain Mash, 2014, Lamour Records lamourcd001)21:09 03:00 Sava Marinkovic - Opening(Evocation, 2014, self-released)22:51 02:38 Mica Levi - Andrew Void / Lipstick to Void(Under the Skin OST, 2014, Milan, 399 543-2)25:01 02:24 Hortus Conclusus - Drone_66 Denebola(Selected Drones, 2011, Nostress Netlabel NN_LP006_11_11)26:00 01:32 Laurie Spiegel - Three Sonic Spaces I(Unseen Worlds, 1994, Aesthetic Engineering AE 11001-2)27:06 00:31 Tod Dockstader - Four Telemetry Tapes, No. 2(Apocalypse, 1993, Starkland ST-202)27:13 04:31 Pete Namlook - Music for Urban Meditation - Part VI(Music for Urban Meditation, 2004, Fax PK 08/167)27:28 00:46 Tod Dockstader - Four Telemetry Tapes, No. 3(Apocalypse, 1993, Starkland ST-202)28:46 05:39 Porzellan - Between Two Suns(The Fourth Level of Comprehension, 2009, Hibernate HB03)32:33 02:50 Max Richter - Journey 3(Infra, 2010, Fat Cat Records CD 13-11)35:00 03:40 Monolake - Avalanche(Silence, 2009, Imbalance Computer Music ML025)37:21 03:52 Mesektet - Hollow Monolitis(Towards a Bleak Sun, 2014, Cold Spring CSR191CD)39:33 03:07 Erik Enocksson - Epilogue(Man Tänker Sitt, 2009, Kning Disk KD070)41:41 02:38 Kate Carr - Sunset(Overheard in Doi Saket, 2014, 3Leaves 3L030)42:54 02:00 Man Watching the Stars - Alpha Ursae Minoris(Dusk, 2014, CIUIN UIN002)43:31 02:31 Yair Elazar Glotman - Khaypudyr Bay(Northern Gulfs, 2014, Glacial Movements GM012)45:18 04:19 Alva Noto - Alva Noto Z1 (For John Cage)(For, 2006, Line LINE_026)48:21 01:57 The The - Meat Fever(Tony, 2010 Lazarus Cineola 1)49:24 08:10 Svarte Greiner - Final Sleep (Remix by Hecq)(Conversions, 2014, Ad Noiseam adn174)55:12 02:45 Mike Cooper - Jalan Sam Heng(White Shadows in the South Seas, 2013, Room40 RM454)56:16 02:18 Penjaga Insaf - Cross the Border(To Whom it May Concern, 2005, Shortwave Transmission SWT01)57:22 03:09 Penjaga Insaf - Sang Dalang(Sama Sadja, 2010, Power & Steel PAS 27)59:01 07:11 Man Watching the Stars - Fields (Dusk)(Dusk, 2014, CIUIN UIN002)1:06:47 - End

This mix is built around mysterious vocals. Vocals that may guide you, or lure you, into distances unknown. Often, but not exclusively, female, and some of them not even human - like the beautiful flute-playing by Jean-Christophe Bonnafous, or the mysterious singing sound of the comet 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko that was recently discovered during the Rosetta space missions. With just a little fantasy you can imagine the Philae Space Lander being attracted by the comet's song - ultimately leading it to an untimely death. --- originally published on Ambientblog --- Start - Length - Artist - Title (Album Title, Release Year, Label #) 00:00 2:39 Mendel Kaelen - Suñayaca Tãla(Sequence 8, 2014, Futuresequence SEQ008)01:51 01:41 Hildur Gudnadottir - Poka(Saman, 2014, Touch TO:96)03:16 00:54 Dan Romer & Benh Zeitlin - End of the World Theme(Beasts of the Southern Wild OST, 2012, Thirty3 and a 3rd Records)03:28 04:06 Giulio Aldinucci - Fieno(Aer, 2014, Dronarivm DR-25)05:56 03:46 Iva Bittová - Fragment VI(Iva Bittová, 2013, ECM Records ECM 2275)07:13 02:55 Ambient Music Therapy - Sleep 3(Ultimate Sleep System, 2005, Self-Released)08:07 02:57 Above, Convenience Store! - Boneyard Stray Dog(Building in Search of the Sun, 2013, Sparkwood Records SR01)10:15 03:54 Penjaga Insaf - Pulang(Sama Sadja, 2010, Power & Steel PAS27)11:52 01:47 Andrew Skeoch & Sarah Koschak - Distant Bellbirds(Favourite Australian Birdsong, 2001, Listening Earth LECD 10)13:25 01:28 Andrew Skeoch & Sarah Koschak - Pied Butcherbirds(A Morning in the Australian Bush, 1996, Listening Earth LECD 9601)14:11 01:06 Ambrose Field - Technoform 7(Quantaform Series, 2013, Sargasso SCD28071)14:45 00:40 Andrew Liles - Tinder Box(Black Beauty, 2007, Beta-Lactam Ring Records MT127)14:54 05:02 Enrico Coniglio - Existenz Minimum(Areavirus Topofonie Vol. 1, 2007, Psychonavigation Records PSY 020)19:32 01:30 Cliff Martinez - Wrong Floor(Drive OST, 2011, Sony/Lakeshore Records 88691975162)20:36 03:21 Field Rotation - The Repetition of History(Fatalist The Repetition of History, 2013, Denovali DEN161)23:30 01:25 Asne Valland Nordli - Veverskens Tid(Over Tones, 2014, ECM Records ECM 2315)24:30 04:01 Darren Harper - Will My Memories of You Hold True(Suspended Memory, 2011, Self-released)26:48 04:06 David Toop - Disposal Chute Inoperative(Mondo Black Chamber, 2014, Sub Rosa SR385)29:39 01:57 Jack Dangers - Blast Off(Bathyscape Trieste, 2013, Primary Numbers PRIMA007)31:03 02:32 Andrew Liles - Aviophilia(In My Father's House There Are Many Mansions, 2006, Fourth Dimension Records FDCD68)32:50 02:16 Rodolpho Alexis - Parabolic Amphibian Mix (Various Tree Frogs)(The Wire Tapper 34, 2014, Wire Magazine Issue 362)33:37 02:00 Lustmord - Babel(The Word as Power, 2013, Blackest Ever Black BLACKESTCD004)35:17 03:18 Desert of Hiatus - Trepidation's Skin(Inconsolable Grief, 2014, self-released)37:51 02:56 Alogon - Snow(Wound, 2014, Under U.R. 08)38:49 02:29 Jean-Christophe Bonnafous - Alterina(Graines de Berceuses, 2012, Prokosnovénie, Prik144)39:28 02:23 A Day for Strange Birds - The Night Creeps(The Sound Between The Noise, 2014, self-released)40:40 02:16 Stefkovic van Interesse - Nebelmarsch(In the Fields, 2013, Self-Released)42:35 04:24 Pauline Oliveros - Watertank Software(Vor Der Flut - Hommage an einen Wasserspeicher, 1985, Eigelstein Musikproduktion, ES2025/26 CD)46:37 00:55 Paul Schütze - Sacred Agents(New Maps of Hell, 1996, Big Cat ABB 104 CD )47:02 03:31 Deaf Center - The Day I Would Never Have(Owl Splinters, 2011, Type TYPE080 )50:02 03:15 Mariolina Zitta - Sonar(Concert for Bats, Voices and Natural Sounds, 2007, Earth Ear ee6142)51:46 02:33 Max Eastley - Hydrophone String Installation(Installation Recordings 1973 - 2008, 2010, Paradigm Discs PD26)53:08 05:27 Ian William Craig - Either Or(A Turn of Breath, 2014, Recital 8)57:12 02:27 Mica Levi - Alien Loop(Under the Skin OST, 2014, Milan M2-36678)58:24 00:41 ESA Operations - A Singing Comet(ESA Operations Rosetta Mission, 2014, Soundcloud)59:00 00:47 Jon Hopkins - Distant Fire(How I Live Now OST, 2013, Just Music TAO056)

If one of the criteria for 'ambient' music is that you can comfortably fall asleep to it, I guess you'd better skip this particular mix. Although it starts quiet and reassuring with soothing vocal chords from Silvestrov's "The Lord's Prayer", the mood disintegrates and sometimes can become rather unsettling - depending on your own personal 'incidental memories', of course. --- originally published on Ambientblog --- For reasons I can't really explain, this mix works better if you listen on speakers instead of headphones - just let the airwaves flow for maximum immersion. "Autumn is here. Darkness slowly creeps up just a little bit earlier. Clouds get grayer and swell up with rain. Trees shed their colors and tighten their belts. And people begin to prepare for winter. But among all the shadows there's a small ray of light. And with that glow comes the music… For today's exclusive podcast, Peter van Cooten weaves in layers of haunting soundscapes spanning the gray-scale of the ambient universe. It's a gorgeous soundtrack to the season of tears…" (Words by H_C) --- originally published on Ambientblog --- Playlist: [Start Time][Sample Length][Artist - Title][Album], [Year], [Label details] 00:00 01:20 Deathprod - A Dream for Ted GreeneMoney Will Ruin Everything 2, 2008, Rune Grammofon RCD207200:28 04:01 Antonymes - Tristesse (Fryderyk Chopin's 12 Études Op. 10 No. 3 in E Major)Variations of Chopin, 2013, Too Many Fireworks 2MF01302:04 02:55 Yann Novak - Amphi, ExcerptAquarius, 2013, Dronarivm DR-0902:53 02:21 Prurient - Terracotta SpineThrough the Window, 2013, Blackest Ever Black BLACKESTCD00203:33 03:37 Siddhartha Barnhoorn - The CoreAntichamber, 2013, Bandcamp06:06 01:32 Boards of Canada - TelepathTomorrow's Harvest, 2013, Warp Records WARPCD25706:06 02:40 Space Shuttle Launch(Taken from the Youtube Video by Michael Interbartolo)07:11 02:58 Rauelsson - Wave OutVora, 2013, Sonic Pieces 01709:00 02:25 Monochromie - KatedraColors in the Dark, 2013, Time Released Sound TRS03310:07 02:23 Jeremy Bible - Co_4Collisions, 2013, Experimedia.net11:40 01:31 Jeremy Bible - Co_9Collisions, 2013, Experimedia.net12:51 05:57 Richard Chartier - Interior Field (Part 1)Interior Field, 2013, Line 06214:18 04:23 Felipe Otondo - SarnathTutuguri, 2013, Sargasso SCD2807017:29 04:29 Bruce Gilbert & BAW - The ExpanseDiluvial, 2013 Touch TO:8717:29 03:12 Bruce Gilbert & BAW - Dry LandDiluvial, 2013, Touch TO:8720:25 02:52 Sebastian Plano - AngelsImpetus, 2013, Denovali DEN17722:31 02:22 Squanto - And BackEvery Night Draws the Same Crowd, 2013, Fluid Audio 01723:44 02:14 Daniel Blinkhorn - Relatively Loud TonesTerra Subfónica, 2013 Gruenrekorder Gruen 11724:24 02:12 Sam Genovese - The Flower in Your ThroatThe Locust in Your Mouth, 2013, Bandcamp25:18 03:28 Michel Banabila - The Late HourZoomworld, 2013, Bandcamp28:08 04:45 Ben Lukas Boysen - The Behinian GospelGravity, 2013, Ad Noiseam ADN168CD30:17 05:22 Jari Pitkänen - UnialusAnima Ombra, 2013, Enough Records, enrmp32133:47 03:32 Metal Wind - Undesirable RotationsAncient Sounds Revival, 2013, Textural Records35:29 02:32 Drøn - Frozen PassageHD188753, 2013, Drøn Release Network DRN 00137:20 02:40 Ben Bix - Nyihahi (Nocturne I-II)All of the Variations At Once, 2013, Psychonavigation PSY07139:13 02:02 Alexandre Desplat - L'OrqueDeRouille Et D'Os, 2012, Idol Records 691.A003.020/WNP000740:50 03:31 Orientalism - Slit Air OmenAli's Riot Men, 2013, Attenuation Circuit ACP 101141:57 01:05 Eugene Carchesio - C9Concert for One Person in a Small Room, 2013, Room40 DRM42142:54 01:58 Marina Rosenfeld - New York_Empire State ofP.A. MIXES – Ambientblog

"I'm not formed by things that are of myself alone" This is the key quote (taken from Stoker) for this mix, which is also 'not formed by things of itself alone'. Every detail, every short sample, has its origin in another context, another musical composition, from which it is taken to find a new place in a completely different context. "My ears hear what others cannot hear." "Parallax" is the visual effect that, when you are moving yourself, objects closer to you seem to move by faster than objects in the distance, which slowly seem to move with you in the same direction. In sound, drones seem to create a somewhat similar effect. In some way that is what this mix is about: the background sound slowly moving along with you while some other fragments pass by so quick you cannot even focus. Just don't try to focus. MIXES – Ambientblog

The title of this mix is taken from the beautiful soundtrack it heavily leans on: Alexandre Desplat's "Rust and Bone" ("De Rouille et D'Os"). "Rust" usually refers to 'decay', but in dutch "Rust" simply also means 'rest', ('tranquil - or 'repos' in french). But - as we say in Holland: "Rust Roest" - or: "Too much rest will make you rusty..." In other words: don't expect just 'tranquil' sounds in this mix.. This is nót meant to be your average 'healing session ambient' soundtrack... so be prepared... --- originally published on Ambientblog --- Playlist: [Start Time][Sample Length][Artist - Title][Album], [Year], [Label details] 00:00 01:16 Colin Stetson - All the Days I've Missed You (Ilay I)De Rouille et D'Os OST, 2012, Idol Records 691.A003.020/WNP000700:59 01:49 Ben Woods - The Brightest Lights in the Darkest SkiesMoments, 2009, Wise Owl OWL-04401:23 03:34 Listening Mirror - There are No StarsFive Pieces, 2012, Rural Colours RC050 03:22 02:27 Y0t0 - Uriarra Road (Seaworthy)Uriarra Road, 2011, Facture 00304:29 04:06 Luup - DawnIt's Not Boring, It's Ambient, 2012, Preserved Sound07:54 02:32 Paulo Raposo - UntitledUntitled Songs: 49 Years from Gesang der Jünglinge, 2005, Sirr 002009:07 03:06 Dyane Donck - IrredeemableMind the Gap 100, 2013, Gonzo Circus GC12610:39 02:29 Jan Kees Helms - E-NatureFall Asleep Ghosts, 2009, DNA Production DNA 7211:27 01:34 Daddy You Scared Me sample from Possession, 2012, Ghost House Pictures12:27 01:13 Michael Esposito, Carl Michael von Hauswolff, Phantom Air Waves - The Ghosts of Effingham,The Ghosts of Effingham, 2010, Parapsychic Acoustic Research Cooperative ‎– PARC 412:37 01:46 Mychael Danna - TsimtsumLife of Pi OST, 2012, 20th Century Fox 8872547725213:56 02:25 Bob Ostertag, Phil Minton - InkVerbatim Flesh & Blood, 1998, Seeland 51214:36 01:51 Eyvind Kang - Wintercount - Avalika SvaraGrass, 2012, Tzadik TZ808915:45 02:03 Alexandre Desplat - AliDe Rouille et D'Os OST, 2012, Idol Records 691.A003.020/WNP000716:42 03:40 Pauwel de Buck - Rehabilitated DistrictMind the Gap 88, 2011, Gonzo Cicus GC11317:38 03:01 Offthesky - Khione Cast the ChildA Winter's Gift, 2012, Hibernate HB4618:51 06:05 Richard Chartier - Retrieval PathAirport Symphony, 2007, Room40 EDRM41721:30 03:38 Porya Hatami - WinterLand, 2012, Somehow Recording SR-2823:49 02:07 Ben Frost - Feeding10, 2011, Room40 DRM41025:18 02:29 Ben Lukas Boysen; Nils Frahm - Closing Credits (By Nils Frahm)Restive OST, 2012, hymen records ¥803 25:49 03:09 Yourai - To Karlheinz StockhausenMusic for Elevators 4, 2012, Mahorka mhrk09127:47 04:57 Arve Henriksen - Recording AngelCartography, 2008, ECM 208631:33 04:43 Chris Watson - Mexico D.F.El Tren Fantasma, 2011, Touch TO:4235:23 03:07 Bass Communion - TailwindHeadwind-Tailwind, 2009, My Own Little Label MOLL03037:48 02:10 Alexandre Desplat - De Rouille et D'OsDe Rouille et D'Os OST, 2012, Idol Records 691.A003.020/WNP000738:50 05:50 Francisco Lopez - Untitled #233Untitled (2009), 2011, Baskaru Karu:2040:19 03:38 Luca Nasciuti - CradleBrave New World, 2011, FeedbackLoop Label FbL01042:39 03:14 Ed.S - Leftover2_(Ed.S Remix)Shinkei + mise_en_scene - Leftovers (Reworked), 2011, Crónica 06045:29 02:23 Justin Bennett - MoorlandWildlife, 2008, Spore Records 00746:18 03:52 Simon Whetham - FabricariaLoud Listening, 2012, Crónica 06747:05 02:36 Yann Novak - Slow MotionSequence 5, 2012, Future Sequence SE 00548:40 00:46 Cliff Martinez - PlaceboContagion OST, 2011, Watertower Music WTM3926648:48 04:17 Linear Bells - Purple Night (feat. This must be one of the darkest mixes I have created until now. I recommend headphone listening for this mix, but also recommend to avoid late night listening - unless, of course, you know what to expect. The atmosphere is immediately set with the first notes, with a threatening (Boduf Songs) howl , and may even get downright frightening in the end climax. Yet, not all is dark and gloomy. In the middle section, there are also more optimistic sounds to enjoy, some more comfortable moments. So: just let the Machinefabriek track ('Stroomtoon Eén'- about 4 minutes from the start) guide you downward to a lower consciousness level - "Inception" style - and from there let your imagination do the rest.... --- originally published on Ambientblog --- Playlist: [Start] [Sample Length] [Artist] - [Title][Album Title], [Year], [Label Details] 00:00 01:05 Boduf Songs - Howl to Capitulate Undone Hours (3x)Internal Memo, 2012, Morc Records MORC5900:25 02:02 Matthew Florianz - Kuilunused track for Los, 2011, selfreleased01:40 01:43 Shackleton - Music for the Quiet Hours Part 1Music for the Quiet Hours, 2012, Woe to the Septic Heart! "We were playing Hide and Seek on a Cemetery Hill... ...quiet hiding in the flowers...among the Flowers and Bones..." Atmospheric drones slowly unfold into childhood memories ... MIXES – Ambientblog

This mix obviously found its name from the lovely intro (and outtro) track by Nest. Inbetween, there are many moments of 'stillness', too... Moments you may slowly drift off into the drones, letting your mind wander ... to be pulled back again by some of the post-classical 'anchors' in this mix. Maybe it's a small opportunity to retreat from current society's turmoil, and to find some time to 'cocoon' to the sounds (and the sometimes fascinating depths) of 'Stillness'. Some word of warning, however: if this suggests this mix only contains warm, comfortable and pleasurable sounds, be prepared for some suprises. I never said that "Stillness" always means "Comforting"... --- originally published on Ambientblog --- Tracklist: [start time][sample length][artist - title][album details] 00:00 05:55 Nest - StillnessBody Pilot, 2011, Serein SERE 11.304:04 02:07 Electricityprivate collection, 2011, not on album04:44 02:33 I8U - TolueneSurface Tension, 2011, Murmur Records MMR1006:32 01:29 Cliff Martinez - I'm SickContagion Soundtrack, 2011, Watertower Music WTM3926607:09 05:01 Esther Venrooy - VesselVessel, 2011, Entr'acte E10408:43 03:34 Leah Kardos - The WaitingFeather Hammer, 2011, Bigo and Twigetti11:15 03:02 Lance Olsen - The Creature that Drank SoundAu Clair de La Lune, 2009, Infrequency IN00512:05 08:10 Bass Communion - CenotaphCenotaph, 2011, Tonefloat TF11518:16 02:45 A Winged Victory for the Sullen - A Requiem for the Static KingA Winged Victory for the Sullen, 2011, Kranky KRANK15720:33 03:57 Vladimír Godár - Postludio - MantraQuerela Pacis, 2011, Pavian Records PM0050-223:16 06:27 Human Greed, Michael Begg, Colin Potter - DeshretFortress Longing, 2011, Omnempathy OMIC228:13 03:10 Carbon Based Lifeforms - SystemTwentythree, 2011, Ultimae Records, INRE04730:27 02:07 Kirill Platonkin - Stellar Seeds (Original)Purified by the Fire, 2011, ADX 03530:51 06:02 Sister Waize - Side Time DownA Dawning of Wonder, 2011, self-released36:17 02:16 Spectra Ciera - Unlit PathwayUnderpass, 2011, Feedback Loop Label FBL02037:02 02:21 Justin Bennett - Tiergarten 1Wildlife, 2008, Spore Records Spore 200738:26 03:16 Jacaszek - WindhoverGlimmer, 2011, Ghostly International, GI-14740:50 03:01 Tom Lawrence - Moore's WellWater Beetles of Pollardstown Fen, 2011, Gruenrekorder GRUEN 08741:51 04:08 Pascal Savy - Reflective ShadowLiminal, 2011, Feedback Loop Label, PHBL0244:39 02:53 Jan M. In the Northern Hemisphere, the November month is the month of Autumn: the month that summer is definitely over, when cold and darkness slowly creeps in. (In the Southern Hemisphere, November is a month of Spring - which means this mix will probably not fit your "November Thoughts" at all). (Northern) November can be rough and harsh, but it's also very beautiful to watch nature prepare for winter and finding ourselves doing the same. Discouraging Intruders

MIXES – Ambientblog

Play Episode Listen Later Jun 7, 2011 58:00

The main theme for this mix (as well as the title "Discouraging Intruders" ) came from the spoken word track by the Dwindlers: "What the Wolves Said": "No two of us on the same note, we sound bigger...our harmony discouraging intruders..." Although generally not sounding like a pack of howling wolves, sometimes the purpose of 'ambient' music also is also is to 'discourage intruders' (such as unwanted sounds) to invade your environment.. From the opening, this mix slowly dwells into long drone soundscapes - some discouraging, others comforting - only to be interrupted by a climactic eruption from Siddhartha Barnhoorn's cinematic 'Artifacts' directly following the enchanting vocals of Fovea Hex, a choir arrangement that seems to be coming directly from heaven by Franz Liszt (from 'Via Crucis', 1879!), followed by a Sibil'La Catalana string theme from the 15th century - and finally to be concluded by the acquiescent vocals from the Terje Isungset track. Whether you prefer to be on the inside or the outside is up to your imagination... --- originally published on Ambientblog --- Playlist (First time is the start time, second time indicates sample length) 00:00 (01:30) Äpne Sinn - EspiritistaEspiritista, 2011; Relaxed Machinery rM01501:00 (02:00) Antonymes - On Arrival at the Strange Museum (ending)The Licence to Interpret Dreams, 2011; Hidden Shoal Recordings HSR08003:00 (03:13) Antonymes - On Arrival at the Strange MuseumThe Licence to Interpret Dreams, 2011; Hidden Shoal Recordings HSR08005:35 (04:12) The Dwindlers - What the Wolves Said -Various Artists - Brave New World, 2011; Feedback Loop Label FbL01008:00 (06:07) Field Rotation - A Dimly Haze (Asleep Pt. 1)And Tomorrow I Will Sleep, 2011; Hibernate HB3109:00 (01:24) Enrico Coniglio - Kingdom of HerDialogue One, 2011; Silentes cd 20112810:08 (04:16) Arturas Bumsteinas - Boletus SatanasPastoral, 2011; Crónica 05512:28 (04:53) Johann Johannsson - An Injury to One is the Concern of AllThe Miners' Hymn, 2011; 130701 CD13-1316:11 (05:40) Johann Johannsson - Freedom from Want and FearThe Miners' Hymn, 2011; 130701 CD13-1318:34 (04:04) Model Citizen - Sleep LearningVarious Artists - Brave New World, 2011; Feedback Loop Label FbL01019:40 (06:37) Fovea Hex - Cup Of Joy (Colin Potter remix)Here is where we used to sing (bonus EP), 2011; Janet Records JRDS004B25:45 (02:57) Siddhartha Barnhoorn - ArtifactsPillars of Light, 2011; Self-released27:14 (03:59) Michael Prime - God's Own DibberL-Fields, 2000; Sonoris SON-0828:34 (06:00) Carl Michael von Hausswolff - Day800 000 seconds in Harar, 2011; Touch TO:8230:30 (04:54) Yann Novak - NightfallNightfall, 2011; self-released34:27 (01:03) Franz Liszt - Station III, Jesus Fällt zum ersten malVia Crucis, 1986; Decca 4805133 35:20 (01:18) Anonymus - Sibil'la CatalanaEl Cant de la Sibil-La, 1988; AliaVox Heritage AVSA 987936:20 (01:20) Arms and Sleepers - CrashNostalgia for the Absolute, 2011; self-released37:12 (04:49) Robert Crouch - A Body of WorkVarious Artists - Wood, Dragon's Eye Fifth Anniversary, 2011; Dragon's Eye, de600840:16 (05:58) Loscil - Névé -Coast Range Arc, 2011; Glacial Movements GM01043:44 (02:41) Stuart Sweeney - Where the Shores Meet (16-9 version)16-9, 2011; Oomff UK OOMFF1001CD45:41 (02:20) Philip Samartzis - Davis StationVarious Artists - 10, 2011; Room40 DRM41045:49 (03:53) John Duncan, Valerio Tricoli - The Garden (excerpt)Eco et Narcisso. MIXES – Ambientblog

First, let me give my best wishes for 2010 to all of you!! What better way to start the new year than with a brand new mix ánd a brand new design (thanks Ingmar from Planet KL!)? The design change is symbolic, in a way: after publishing a lot of mixes in 2009, all of wich were created for radio broadcast, it is now time to take a further step and start publishing new mixes. "Miserere" is the first of these brand new mixes to be published. "Miserere" has taken its name from the concluding piece: Gregoria Allegri's Miserere, as performed by the Tallis Scholars. While working on this mix, I soon felt that this piece had to be the conclusion, and that it should not be combined with other pieces of music or environmental sounds.--- originally published on Ambientblog --- MISERERE PLAYLIST 0:00 Robert Hampson - Ahead Only the Stars- Vectors, 2009 Touch TO:710:10 Meredith Monk - Liquid Air- Mercy, 2002 Ecm 18291:14 Don Peyote - The Guardian- Eternal Now, 2009 Don Peyote Recordings DPY1CD0043:02 Martin O'Donnell, Michael Salvatori - The Rookie- Halo 3 ODST Soundtrack, 2009 Something Else6:47 Kreng - Slaapliedje- L'Autopsie Phénomenale de Dieu, 2009 Miasmah MIALP0107:16 The Caretaker - I Saw Your Face in a Dream- We'll all go riding on a Rainbow, 200x v/VM Test records VVMTCD157:29 Thomas Köner - 31 46 N 35 12 E Hour Ten- La Barca, 2009 Fario cd099:43 Nigel Samways - City of Gas Streetlamps- Veilleur de Nuit, 2009 Experimedia EXP05110:09 Rafael Anton Irrisarri - Still- Musique Pour Statues Menhirs, 2009 Arbouse recording arbou2612:58 Michel Banabila - Tape (Mix 2)- Changing Structures, 2009 soundcloud13:22 Jóhann Jóhannsson - The Flat- And in the endless Pause there came the sound of Bees, 2009 Type Type64LP16:02 Jónsi & Alex - Sleeping Giant- Riceboy Sleeps, 2009 Parlophone 509999630022017:00 Michel Banabila - Zeer Duister (voor Peter van Cooten)- Not on album, 2007 unreleased17:29 Kreng - Mythobarbital- L'Autopsie Phénomenale de Dieu, 2009 Miasmah MIALP01019:06 Benjamin Dauer - Murmur- Ceci N'Est pas une Pipe, 2009 Public Space Labs PS01021:20 Taylor Deupree - 6 A.M.- Favourite Places 1, 2007 Audiobulb 2007 AB01622:33 Robert Hampson - Ahead- Only the Stars - Vectors, 2009 Touch TO:7124:04 Franz Hautzinger - Deep T.- Gomberg II, 2007 Loewenhertz 01825:25 Franz Hautzinger - Fahne- Gomberg II, 2007 Loewenhertz 01826:20 Murcof - Isaías IV- La Sangre Illuminada, 2009 Intolerancia Records28:11 Exuviae - Wane and Flicker- Intrinsic Luminance, 2009 Endless Ascent ea00730:15 Jónsi & Alex - Boy 1904- Riceboy Sleeps, 2009 Parlophone 509999630022033:22 Sleep Research Facility - Dark Side of the Lune- Au Clair de La Lune, 2009 Infrequency 00534:05 Else Marie Pade - Illustrations - The Palace of the Sea King- Water-colours of the Sea, 2009 Dacapo Records 8.22654434:44 Netherworld - Jostedaal- Zaum, 2009 Psychonavigation Records PSY02937:02 Else Marie Pade - Illustrations - The Palace of the Sea King- Water-colours of the Sea, 2009 Dacapo Records 8.22654437:41 Ronald van der Meijs - Under the Dream- Private collection, 2009 unreleased39:05 Lawrence English - Quiet Planigale- Favourite Places 2, 2009 Audiobulb AB02643:27 Clint Mansell - We're Not Programs, Gerty, We're People- Moon OST, 2009 Black Records CMCD00144:15 Elegi - Fandens Bre- Varde, 2009 Miasmah MIACD00945:18 Hildur Gudnadottir - Unveiled- Without Sinking, 2009 Touch TO:7045:31 Hildur Gudnadottir - Elevation- Without Sinking, 2009 Touch TO:7047:35 Last Days - Thoughts of Alice- The Safety of the North, 2009 n5MD MD16650:12 Wixel - Jotunheimen- Norway, 2009 (august) 2009.bandcamp.com51:08 Scanner - Leoni- Consegnaci, Bambina, I Tuoi Occhi, 2009 Horus Music51:37 Robert Henke - Indigo_Transform- Indigo_Transform, 2009 Imbalance Computer Music ICM 0852:46 Mathew Adkins - Sea Soundscape- [60] Project, 2008 Impreintes digitales IMED089855:00 Roland Etzin - On the Bus- Recorded in the Field by…, 2006 Gruenrekorder Gruen03355:13 Elian - It was over, just like that- And Then, One Day, It was over, just like that, 2008 Trans>Parent Radiation Trans01255:20 Murcof - Eugenio- La sangre Iluminada, 2009 Intolerancia Records56:30 The Caretaker - Past Life Regression- Persistent Repetition of Phrases, 2008 History Always Favours the Winners HAFTWDL00357:07 The Gentleman Losers - Oblivion's Tide- Dustland, 2009 City Centre Offices TowerblockCD04357:50 Aaron Ximm (The Quiet American) - Starboard- Maritime Suite, 200x self-released58:00 The Tallis Scholars - Gregorio Allegri - Miserere (3 fragments)- Allegri: Miserere, 2005 Gimsell Records GIMSE401

MIXES – Ambientblog

"Wave" is the first of a two part an auditive "guided fantasy" ("Ring" being the second part). A mix of ambient music, soundscapes and other musical surprises, created in 2006. No track is played completely, but the interaction of the fragments creates a completely new structure.... Which, in fact, is true for all ambient mixes of course... These two mixes were part of a 4-hour radio broadcast that were thematically related to Icelandic music. At least: the first and the last were mostly. The first of these four programs was a compilation of the (magnificent) album 'Spellewauerynsherde' by Akira Rabelais, the fourth part was a compilation of music from Iceland. I guess it's safe to assume that this also probably is the first (and possibly single) ambient music collage containing Venetian Snares music! "The Hum in the Room" the final part of the three-part mix dedicated to ... the hum in your room! The buzz that you suddenly notice, that appears to have been there forever but unnoticed - until this moment. The sound that will be there forever from now. The hum that appears to come from the inside of your head, and that keeps changing when you turn your head or walk through the room. The noise that can irritate as well as fascinate. Or, to quote John Cage from a 1937 lecture: "Wherever we are, what we hear is mostly noise. When we ignore it, it disturbs us. When we listen to it, we find it fascinating. The sound of a truck at 50 m.p.h. Static between the stations. Rain. We want to capture and control these sounds, to use them, not as sound effects, but as musical instruments. "Acoustical Illusions", a part of the "Hum in the Room-trilogy" (2005), is dedicated to the environmental sounds that sound like distant choirs or orchestras. Sometimes when you listen to sounds in your environmental background, they may vaguely sound like a full string orchestra, or like soft whispering voices. An orchestra tuning? Cars passing on the highway?Sound that sound different from what they really are - Acoustical Illusions. Like the other wo mixes in this set ("Mantra of Walls and Wiring" and "The Hum in the Room") this is a very minimal, drone-oriented mix.
