Controversy in Hollywood as news breaks that Elon Musk - yes, THAT Elon Musk - has tapped beloved LA chef Eric Greenspan to helm his upcoming Tesla-themed Diner on Santa Monica Blvd. Is Chef Greenspan's choice to take the job in any way defensible, or is he just another DOGE bag? Father Sal and I dig into the news and the backlash to make sense of it all. Plus, the James Beard Awards announced their nominees including 5 So Cal establishments, LA Taco's Taco Madness got underway with one notable absence, and in Chef's Kiss Big Miss we tackle revolving restaurants, gullible pastry chefs, and a list of rules for modern dining.Helpful links:Breijo and Goldman on Greenspan and the Tesla Diner https://www.latimes.com/california/story/2025-03-28/la-chef-picked-to-run-tesla-diner-in-hollywoodSoCal James Beard nominees https://la.eater.com/2025/4/2/24399234/los-angeles-james-beard-foundation-award-nominees-2025LA Taco Taco Madness https://lataco.com/taco-madness-2025Con Mum https://www.netflix.com/title/81708174Galuten on best burger / martini combo https://la.eater.com/2025/4/1/24398077/best-bar-burger-martini-los-angeles-noah-galutenFinancial Times' rules for dining https://www.ft.com/content/dba8928b-0961-4174-bd00-5096a2e65beaRevolving restaurants https://www.nytimes.com/2025/04/01/dining/revolving-restaurant.html–Go check out The Lonely Oyster in Echo Park! https://thelonelyoyster.com/

The Academy Awards are here and Jordan has bad ideas of how to fix them, Michael Lasker joins to blow minds with his wild knowledge for the town's biggest night, and Max hates the food at Dan Tana's so Hollywood mega producer Neal Moritz steps into the building to make Max learn how to enjoy the culinary delights of the little yellow and green Santa Monica Blvd. red sauce house. And it's all Rain Man skills, what comedy smash franchise came to life over chicken parm and cheesy garlic bread, lots of Tana's tips, a bunch of biz talk, and Jordan and Max have other plans for the movie star studded Sunday night.
Sometimes Greg wonders if he's sick in the mind—and considering this is an episode about O.J. Simpson (the benchmark of mental stability), that's saying something. Why the fear? The trepidation?Because this week, Open Loops dares to go where it dare not tread without full commitment.(Greg also has issues with commitment.)Yes, we're talking about the realm of TRUE(r) Crime.Oh, please… not another true crime podcast! For the love of Mel Robbins, let them, let them, let them… protect Open Loops in all its conspiratorial and paranormal glory!Don't worry. We've got you covered. In this episode, Greg sits down with B.T. Wedemeyer, author of O.J.'s MOON: Untold True Stories from the Other Side, whose meticulous investigation into the O.J. Simpson case has uncovered disturbing new details that challenge long-held narratives. This isn't another retelling of a well-worn trial. It's an exploration of what was left out, what was overlooked, and what it means when the justice system turns a blind eye to critical evidence.Greg and B.T. dive deep into:Tom Lang's forgotten testimony—why was a crucial firsthand account ignored by prosecutors?Discrepancies in the official reports—why do key details about the crime scene conflict with eyewitness statements? The LAPD's handling of the case—was there more to their investigation than what was presented in court? The lingering mysteries—what questions still remain unanswered decades later? This episode isn't just about O.J.—it's about perception itself. As the Oracle of Delphi once said (or maybe just some dude between puffs out on Santa Monica Blvd), "There's no 'I' in O.J. But there are two eyes in 'He Did It.'”Ommmm.Oh, and Greg also gets B.T.'s thoughts on Robert Blake, JonBenét, JFK, and a whole bunch of other wild rabbit holes...Get ready for a whirlwind episode.Because it's 2025, and somehow, you're still thinking about the O.J. trial....Yep. Greg is definitely sick in the head.B.T.'s Links: Go here to read or listen to the audiobook of O.J.'S MOON: Untold Stories from the Other Side Let Greg know how you like the show. Today on The LA Food Podcast presented by Rusty's Chips… how are influencers transforming LA's restaurant scene? What does a legendary San Bernardino restaurant have to do with political polarization? And why did one Little Tokyo mochi manufacturer inspire a long-form feature in the New York Times? Father Sal is with us to discuss all of the above, beginning with a deep dive into Eater LA's four-story package on the dreaded “i” word - influencers. Are they adding something valuable to the overall conversation? Or are they scammers that everybody from restaurants to consumers should be wary of? As always, we have the definitive, unquestionable, and unchallengeable answers, for you dear listener, so get excited, cuz this conversation is Lox Level 9.9. In Part 2, I caught up with the iconic Dominick DiBartolomeo at The Cheese Store of Beverly Hills. While The Cheese Store has been in business since the 60s, the latest iteration on Santa Monica Blvd is making waves that have the LA's culinary nerds abuzz with excitement. Dom and I talk about all things cheese and sandwiches, we learn what his favorite cheeses are right now, and which cheese he would eat if he could only pick one to consume for the rest of his life. He tells us the crazy lengths he goes to to source his incredible product, and how he goes about forging relationships with LA's best chefs. Talking to Dominick felt like talking to a long-lost relative, and that's not just cuz we're both Italian. He's a true gem of a human being, and I can't wait for you to brie this conversation. I mean, hear this conversation. As always please consider leaving us a rating or a review wherever you listen to podcasts. Roughly an hour before O.J. Simpson went to Nicole Brown Simpson's condo in Brentwood and killed his ex-wife and Ron Goldman, Simpson drove to what would become the most infamous McDonald's in the world. With him in the passenger seat of his Bentley was Nicole's friend Kato Kaelin, who lived in a bungalow on O.J.'s property on Rockingham. The trip was eery and odd and played an integral role in the timeline of events on June 12, 1994, and in the trial that made Kato a household name. In this episode of One Degree of Scandalous, Kato returns to that very same McDonald's on Santa Monica Blvd with Tom Zenner for the first time in over 30 years. See, hear, and feel the emotions Kato describes having as he recalls everything from that fateful night. Also, in this episode, Tom and Kato take fans on another journey to another one of the pivotal sights of the O.J. Simpson saga — Mezzaluna, the former hip and chic restaurant in Brentwood Ronald Goldman worked, and where he departed with the glasses Nicole's mother had left there. This is a pulse-pounding and mesmerizing episode that people who grew up watching the trial and following the events have been waiting for.Was returning to these sights a therapeutic process for Kato — or a journey that regretfully triggers more questions about why O.J. took him there in the first place? Due to Jim Morrison's legal and alcohol problems, the Doors' live gigs had dried up. So, to cut costs, they set up a makeshift recording studio in a dingy former jewelry store on Santa Monica Blvd. But just as they were getting set to record their sixth studio album, their producer suddenly quit. Nevertheless, the band soldiered on, and created one of the all-time great rock albums. Sadly, it would be Jim Morrison's last. Randy Renaud has the story of L.A. Woman by the Doors for its 53rd anniversary on the Chronicles of Rock

Overwhelmed by crowds of geared-up men at my first leather event, a Tom of Finland “Butt Boy” party in Hollywood, I escaped to an outdoor patio for a cigarette. I was in my late 20s, in the mid-1990s, wearing gear I'd purchased specifically for the event: a harness, armbands, a classic leather cap, leather shorts, and boots from an army surplus store on Santa Monica Blvd. With my naked back against a cool brick wall, I watched as men drifted between rooms while I pulled casually on my cigarette, hoping to look like I belonged. Apparently, I did. A beautiful shirtless blonde guy around my age, in jeans and boots, caught my eye and walked toward me. While I was still trying to figure out what to say to him, he got on his knees, clasped his hands behind his back, and bowed his head, causing an intoxicating wave of sexual arousal to wash through me. I discovered a new reality. Clouds parted. The skies opened. The leather gods smiled down upon me. At least that's how it felt. Instinctively, I reached out and stroked his short-cropped hair. “Thank you, sir!” He said. And then…I had no idea what to do. No. Fucking. Idea. I honestly don't remember what happened to that guy. All I know is he disappeared. And that scene played itself in my head repeatedly for over a decade. Searching for answers on my own got me nowhere, so at 41, I entered my first leather contest because I wanted to know what to do if that opportunity presented itself again. For the non-leather-folk “muggles,” it may be necessary to give some context to these rituals. Just like the Wizarding World of Harry Potter, the Leather World has its own press, its own houses, and its own politics. Each contest (each “house”), from Eagle LA to International Mister Leather (IML), sets its own rules for who is allowed to compete, the criteria for winning, and the responsibilities of the winning titleholder. Each house has its own special magic and wants to know if their contestants have the magical qualities that their house values. The judges of the contest act as the sorting hat. If I sponsored a contest, I'd let the judges know I'm looking for men who like sex, power exchange protocols, dancing, empathy, directness, self-reliance, respect, loyalty, and honesty. I'm not great at all those qualities, but I would enjoy being with men pursuing them. A different house might focus on people who like quoting leather history, fundraisers, hyper-inclusivity, etc. Every house (club, organization) gets to be exactly what they want to be. The contest doesn't care. Go ahead and put it in the blender. We'll see what comes out. Most contests follow the same format, which I have come to respect as a ritualized liturgy: Meet and Greet, Interview, Speech, Bar-wear, Jockstrap, and Announcement of the Winners. The liturgy provides a structure for us to sort out what's important to us individually and collectively. It provides an arena for confronting questions like: Who are we as a community? Who am I as an individual in this community? Do I belong here, or am I just trying to fit in? It's the kind of self-reflection that happens in private therapy sessions, meditation retreats, or when laying awake at 3 a.m. wondering, “What's the purpose of my life?” Most often, a sense of community, meaning, and purpose is evoked, which is why we keep doing it. However, sometimes the message from the contest is, “You guys are not aligned on what's important, and you'll suffer until it's sorted out. You have work to do!” Even when contests have melted down, the leather community has learned important lessons. Do our judges reflect our values? What are our values? Are we curious about new ideas? Do we have limits? Are we communicating our expectations? My personal relationship with the contest has fluctuated wildly from joy to contempt and back again. I won three competitions and enjoyed being famous, thinking it would fix all my doubts regarding my sexuality and self-worth. It didn't. The contest taught me that I had work to do. I had to decide for myself who I am and find the organization where I belong instead of petitioning organizations for membership that require me to change something about myself to fit in. I also learned, and I'm not sure where, how to accept the gift of a beautiful sub kneeling at my feet. I can leave my hand there on his head, neck, or shoulder while I finish my cigarette. No words are necessary. I can give him a task, like nuzzling my boots or another body part in front of him. I can instruct him to stand for inspection, hands on his head, eyes down, while I run my hands over his body, taking what he wants to give. I can ask him if he's prepared to service me in the dark room. The contest has helped me sort out my own values. It has taught me to use discernment when asked to participate in an organization. It has shown me the power of showing up, the power of being absent, and the power of speaking my truth with empathy. The contest liturgy is robust enough to take all the leather and kink worlds can throw at it and still create a sense of home, belonging, and meaning for those involved. Whether it's love or contempt, the contest will show all those involved who they really are. The Sensitive Slut is a reader-supported publication. On today's show, we sit down with the founders of what has been dubbed one of the best sandwiches in Los Angeles. The inspiration for Ggiata comes from childhood friends who grew up eating authentic Italian-style deli sandwiches in Montclair, NJ. The deli was always an anchor in the community, the central meeting point for any occasion that invited friends to gather. Ggiata exists to serve exceptionally prepared Italian-style deli fare, inspired by traditional East Coast neighborhood delis. They aim to bring lunchtime staples like fresh chicken cutlets and marinated eggplant to Los Angeles while working with local vendors to source the highest quality ingredients. In today's episode you'll learn:

PUBLIC VERSION. Actor/Director/Producer Thomas Jane (BOOGIE NIGHTS, THE MIST, THE PUNISHER) has been paying his dues in Hollywood ever since sleeping in his classic Camaro to pay for acting lessons and making sets on Santa Monica Blvd's “Theater Row.” Since his humble beginnings, Tom has carved out quite an eclectic career in both studio and independent films, even creating a production company to foster his latest project, the influencer-inspired Vampire romp SLAYERS (now available on VOD, SVOD and in select theaters). From dropping out of high school… to honing his craft in a Bollywood film… to learning how to walk correctly from an esteemed character actor… to landing the iconic role of the hair positive gigolo “Todd Parker” in Paul Thomas Anderson's seminal porn industry epic BOOGIE NIGHTS… to walking away from a potential franchise (THE PUNISHER series) when it was not going in a direction that he was comfortable with and making his OWN Punisher short instead… to the controversial ending of Frank Darabont's cult classic THE MIST… Tom opens up about the many unique choices that he's made along his incredible career journey so far. Tom and the boys also talk about what it's like cultivating the image of masculinity in modern film and television, Joe shares a story about the time he and Tom almost worked together, and Adam helps pay for his dentist's second and third summer homes in the Hamptons.

This week's episode features Steve Lococo, a master stylist and owner of B2V Salon in West Hollywood. He is one of West Hollywood's legacy businesses after beginning his salon adventures in 1985 on Santa Monica Blvd. This episode begins with a little nostalgia as Steve recounts the days of the Tropicana Hotel and the train that ran through the center of the city right down the middle of Santa Monica Blvd. B2V is situated in an old bungalow setting and adapted well to pivot their services after three different mandated closures from the State and La County impacting salon businesses. In addition to creating a serene outdoor salon on the deck, Steve and his team are offering a number of express services in addition to the full salon treatment experience. Our two hosts particularly enjoy talking to Steve about their hair care given their love of the poolside lounging and sunny ocean swims. Steve has some great tips for Tracy's curly blonde hair and Maxine's dark brunette that can have a brassy tendency with too much time in the sun. Give this episode a listen and you may learn a tip or two for your own coiffed look. Today’s guests are Emerson Haro and Tony Yuan, co-founders of Farm Cup Coffee and co-inhabiters with us in our new space at 7748 Santa Monica Blvd in West Hollywood, CA. Farm Cup and their one-of-a-kind coffee truck Sunny take up the front half, while we record in the space right behind them. So needless to say we all know each other pretty well. In the two years that we’ve been doing this show, no one embodies the spirit of Startup to Storefront more than these guys. Aside from literally going from startup to an actual storefront, they pour their heart and soul into their business and it shows. Our first conversation with them was episode 17, and we’re thrilled that we could catch up with them again and talk about just how far they’ve come since then. Listen in as we cover everything from how Emerson’s initial drawings for Sunny were completely impractical, how they fought through low customer turnout last year, and they recount the most disastrous pitch meeting imaginable.

Terry Molatore grew up in Los Angeles, the youngest of six children. In the 1970's she attended UC Santa Cruz and later worked at the Nuart movie theater on Santa Monica Blvd. She landed a job doing traditional rotoscoping on The Empire Strikes Back for an LA company called VCE which eventually led to a gig at ILM that wound up lasting 22 years. Terry left ILM to work at Imagemovers and later travelled to New Zealand to work at Weta Digital. Just before the pandemic, she retired from visual effects and is now developing stories connected to her family experience and background. Terry is one of my all time favorite ILMrs and we have a great conversation about her background, old friends, growing up an LA kid, and the state of the world.
In this week's episode, the We Know WeHo takes us back to the not so distant past of the glorious days when West Hollywood's was the OG fitness mecca anchored by a grungy gym hub called Todd Tramp's that was located on the corner of La Cienega and Melrose Avenue. These are the days long before reality television, when Bob Harper was sweating away teaching insane choreography in his step classes and where the craze of indoor cycling was arguably birthed with the likes of Debbie Rocker, Andrew Lawent and Gunner Peterson sweating away on in a packed room in the dark riding to the rhythm and tapping it back - “spinning” on an indoor stationary bike. This week's guest, Janet Fitzgerald, was in the thick of the first wave of notable instructors who were teaching these sold-out jammed packed indoor cycling classes. Janet was the owner of the beautiful zen Body and Soul Workout that sat above the Ramada Hotel for ten years where locals would sweat next to celebrities whilst Janet lead them on a spiritual soulful musical journey as they peered down on Santa Monica Blvd through the serene Japanese grass that lined the windows of this sweat sanctuary. In 2010, Janet left Los Angeles for another “soul” located on the East Coast - SoulCycle. Janet shares with Tracy an insider view of her story, but more importantly how her personal journey correlates to her role as the Senior Training Officer of the company where she has trained over 400 instructors as the big yellow wheel emerged and created the second big wave of indoor cycling that swept across the country with over 99 studios. The fitness business has been one of the hardest hit during the pandemic, and it seems we still have a long wait for packed indoor group classes to resume (at least here in California) as outdoor classes are being held in pop-up locations. Janet gets real with Tracy about the impact on her and her fellow instructors and employees, and shares her optimism about the company's future with a newly appointed CEO. Janet relocated to Los Angeles for the winter months where she continues to teach inspiration, hope, and healing one pedal stroke at a time. Check out Janet's SoulyCycle classes at the Century City Mall and Santa Monica Promenade outdoor locations. You might also want to give a listen to her podcast “Witch and Famous” that is the inspiration behind a spiritual transformation media project in the works. This wellness oasis has only been open 19 days, but make sure to have a listen to the podcast to learn about Chris and his business on the bleeding edge of fitness, wellness, anti-aging and beauty. He has been dedicated to health and fitness all of his life as a triathlete, martial artist, and wellness / biohacking enthusiast. Eat & Drink Week: We head into the final days of Eat + Drink Week (Nov 1) and Maxine's pick is Cavatina at Sunset Marquis. You have to cross a bridge across a koi pond and it feels like Hawaii. It will be even more enchanting when the holiday lights make their appearance shortly. Sweet Treats: Tracy scoured the neighborhood and her picks for some tasty treats are Cake Monkey, Pitchoun, Gelson's, and Conservatory (for the spooky drinks too!). However, it is the macarons for Maxine as she waits for Bottega Louie to open their doors in early November. Lisa's Back: The block at SM between Robertson & San Vicente appears to be alive again with Pump, Tom Tom and its expanded patio offering Vanderpump Rules realness to fans of all the shows. Time to Vote: We don't think we need to remind you how important your voice is right now, and for a little extra incentive Uncle Paulie's Deli, Lauren's fave, will give you buy-one-get-one free when you come in with an “I Voted” sticker. Uber is also offering some deal specials if you need a ride to the ballot box or polls. Robertson House: James Perse proves they are much more than high end t-shirts and sweats on Robertson next to the Ivy. This fully immersive experience will showcase their furniture collection and accessories including sheets, towels, antiques, cashmere throws and more.

This week, we realize everything old is new again. We have had to reimagine and it seems that nostalgia serves a bigger purpose than just a feel good situation. It's actually informed the way we reimagine some old faves. Join host and producer Tracy Paaso and guest-host-in-residence Maxine Tatlonghari (her words, not ours) in this week's episode of We Know WeHo. THE ANDAZ The Drive In. Matt Ojinaga, the director of Sales, Events and Marketing at the Andaz joins the girls and shares three ways that Andaz has reinvented its offerings. We start with the drive-in. Simply drive your car in and gather up to 3 of your friends and for $56.25 you can experience a drive-in movie as never before. The menu has evolved from simple popcorn nights to full-on charcuterie packages complete with branded Pashmina scarves. Get your tickets here. Barber Shop Vibes. It appears that personal services are once again open in LA, but just in case, Andaz has partnered with fellow Sunset Stripper Barcode Barbershop to offer haircuts on the Terrace. Poolside Dining. Tracy and Maxine love a rooftop. They love love a rooftop with a view and the Andaz does NOT disappoint. The Andaz offers 4 intimate social distanced tables with 2 seatings complete with heaters. Book your table here. For more staycation ideas in West Hollywood click here. FOOD & FASHION: Strings of Life. Remember pigs in a blanket? Savory little hot dogs in a flaky pastry... Well, in true WeHo fashion, celebrity chefs offer their elevated take on the humble party favorite. The outdoor area is so cute - all bright, sunny, yellow socially distanced vibes. Menu. Taco Tuesday. This day is practically a holiday in WeHo. Tracy headed down the corner of Santa Monica Blvd and Hayworth and caught an outdoor grill at Employees Only offering up carne asada. Next door neighbor Tacos Tu Madre was bursting at the seams with taco aficionados on the same night. HEALTH & WELLNESS: More Pilates on a Rooftop? Maxine's outdoor Pilates obsession continues with the discovery of this new option Spier Pilates on Santa Monica Blvd. The ability to sanitize the handles (and perhaps even bring your own) brings the customizable experience to the next level. Manis and Pedis please? So for those of you experiencing hangnails and hobbit feet, some of our favorite nail salons are reopening. Let us know in the comments below how your favorite neighborhood nail salon is faring. PrideStride. On this episode of Making Elephants Fly, Terry sits down with Cathy Heller. She’s the host of the popular podcast Don’t Keep Your Day Job, which was given the #1 spot on iTunes recommend list of shows for the New Year in 2018 and 2019. Each week Cathy encourages thousands and thousands of listeners to find more purpose in their life and get paid to do what they love full time. She started out as a singer-songwriter and first found success licensing her music to TV, Film & Ads. Quickly she became a stand out in her field and was featured in magazines like Billboard, Variety, and the LA Weekly. After making a multi six-figure living with her music, Cathy started a music agency, and then she began teaching other artists to grow their own careers. Two weeks after her third daughter was born, she started her top-ranked podcast. Cathy’s show has been featured in Forbes, Entrepreneur Magazine, HuffPost, the NY Times, and Inc Magazine’s “top 9 podcasts”, and has over 13 million downloads. She’s been featured several times by Apple themselves and the fans are resonating with how genuine she is. Cathy’s book Don’t Keep Your Day Job was released in November 2019 with Macmillan. It’s filled with inspirational stories from people within her own tribe who have decided to take control of their life’s journey. She is a phenomenal coach for creative entrepreneurs and she’s helping people everywhere find a deeper sense of purpose and add their gifts to the world. When she’s not teaching or interviewing amazing guests for her podcast, you can find Cathy playing with her three little girls, writing her book, songwriting for tv shows and commercials, or enjoying a moment with friends. Join Cathy and Terry as they talk about her journey from getting dropped from a record label on Santa Monica Blvd, to discovering what she was really good, and on that journey discovering what she was made for. Many would have given up and Cathy learned that she was made to chart her own course. If you thought Frat Row was wild, you're in for a rude awakening. One minute you're boarding a mysterious shuttle on Santa Monica Blvd, the next you're in a mansion on top of the Hollywood sign. Because we're living through the apocalypse, take an escape with this walk down memory lane as Taylor and Emily detail some of their wild Hollywood party stories and the absurd antics of the elite. From joining G-Eazy's entourage to painting Karrueche's nails, step away from the solo cup and grab yourself a champagne flute, 'cause things are about to get real boughie... and weird.
Ron Richman, an attorney in San Francisco, recently received a phone call from the eldest of his two sons, Sam, a lawyer in Los Angeles. The father immediately heard something in his son's voice that wasn't right. His instincts were accurate. The younger Richman, 29, had been driving his 2014 Subaru Impreza hatchback with a friend as a passenger on Santa Monica Blvd. at 30-35 miles per hour. He was hit from behind by a car witnesses estimated was traveling about 80 mph. The Subaru Impreza then hit a bus. The totaled driver's side of a 2014 Subaru Impreza hatchback after a recent Los Angeles crash. All images © Ron Richman/2020. Sam Richman suffered a concussion, bruised lungs and kidneys, deep bruises from his seatbelt, a sprained ankle and a concussion. Sam's friend, whose name is not being used via request, suffered two crushed fingers, a sprained left hand, bruises and a black eye. Both are recovering well. The elder Richman, who lives with his wife Kathleen in Foster City, California, is our guest in Episode #129 of The Weekly Driver Podcast. Co-hosts Bruce Aldrich and James Raia discuss the accident and its aftermath with Richman. We talked about how a used Subaru Impreza helped saved the lives of his son and his son's friend. Subaru Impreza impressive "My son said he never saw the car coming," said Richman. "The next thing he knows he's is hit from behind, spinning the car around and into oncoming traffic. His car then hit an oncoming LA Metro Bus. The bus driver was able to slow down some and swerve, avoiding a head-on collision." Richman, who drove to Los Angeles with his wife to assist their son, further explains: "The Subaru had front and side airbags, front and back seats, all deployed. The side airbags truly did their job, but as little as I know about car design and crumple zones, it appears the car did exactly what it was designed to do, absorb the impact and protect the driver and passengers." "After seeing the car, I was just shocked, and amazed that my son and his friend were able to walk away from that crash with relatively minor injuries." Richman, who supplied the images in this post, also explains how talking about what happened has helped him. The Weekly Driver Podcast encourages and appreciates feedback from our listeners. 2019 was an amazing year for me personally and professionally. A breakthrough year, really. Convo By Design was recorded from the home studio, sure, but we were on the road as well. These design road trips took me, and you all over Southern California, Arizona and Nevada. We started with a trip to Las Vegas for the 2019 edition of KBIS. If you haven’t been to KBIS before, a word of advice, wear comfortable shoes. This is one of the biggest design focused events I have attended. I must have walked 4 miles a day and seen every new kitchen and bath product known to man. I talked to so many amazing people. I wanted to share my chat with Billy Peele with Mockett. This is a small Southern California company with some creative architectural solutions for age old design challenges. I thought you might enjoy hearing about this… 1. Billy Peele of Mockett From Vegas, it was off to Modernism Week in Palm Springs. I had the chance to catch up with a ton of remarkable and creative people and this year, I had the honor of recording from the SIA (Save Iconic Architecture) Party at the Cary Grant Estate. Catching up with some old friends and making some new ones. Here’s what that sounded like. First with long time friend of the show, Patrick Dragonette. Patrick was the president of the LaCienega Design Quarter and owner of Dragonette, LTD. His showroom in said design district. We covered a lot of ground here, 2. Patrick Dragonette Next was a fun chat with Ron Woodson and Jamie Rummerfield, the creative and intellectual force behind Woodson & Rummerfeilds House of Design and co-founders of SIA. 3. and 4. Ron Woodson and Jamie Rummerfield 2 If that wasn’t enough, I had the chance to catch up with Peter Gurski, interior designer and set decorator, responsible for the look of Will & Grace. 5. Peter Gurski Finally, it was off to El Paseo for an amazing afternoon at the Cambria Surfaces showroom. Here are a few of the highlights including; 6. Adele Cygelman talking about her book about noted designer, Arthur Elrod. 7. Dann Foley Before I left Modernism Week, I had to make a stop by the Christopher Kennedy Compound. I spoke with Christopher about the project this year. 8. Christopher Kennedy This was so much fun and was the very first Design Influencer Group meeting. The Design Influencer & Innovator Group as its now known is series of events that include designers, architects and others from the design and architecture space for the purpose of networking in a meaningful way, sharing information and helping each other do better work while making more for that work. A novel concept, right? Since that first gathering in Palm Springs last January, over 70 creatives have participated and shared their expertise. This is Kristi Nelson from an event at the Tidelli showroom in the pacific Design Center 9. Kristi Nelson 10. Micehelle Salz-Smith 11. Gary Gibson These DIG events are so much fun, and incredibly rewarding… Speaking of rewarding, the Pasadena Showcase House for the Arts was fantastic this year. This was my third year covering the Pasadena Showcase, here is a clip. 12. Robert Frank The LaCienega Design Quarter’s LEGENDS event was blast this year. I had the chance to interview 38 of the 43 designers who crafted some of the astounding showroom windows. I actually rode my bike between LaCienega from Santa Monica Blvd to Melrose by the PDC, almost got hit about 5 times and covered about 80 miles during the week. Earlier in this episode, you heard Patrick Dragonette mention some of the amazing designers, here they are… 13. Alex Papachristidis 14. Jeff Andrews 15. Peti Lau 16. Nicole Fuller So much fun, I truly loved Legends this year! This brings us to the home stretch of 2019, WestEdge Design Fair where Convo By Design was, once again the presenting sponsor of the Programming Lounge. A full 3 days of panels, keynotes and elevated conversations. over 65 creatives,

Laura Wilson was born and raised in communist Romania in a small town called Radauti where socialism reigned supreme and creature comforts like daily hot showers were non existent. Food was rationed, you owned one pair of shoes and opportunities for advancement in society were scarce. Yet Laura kept an optimistic attitude and was grateful for what she had. Government sponsored sports programs were one of the only avenues to get out of her home town and travel so Laura embraced dance and gymnastics and flourished at all sports. Eventually she discovered archery and competed at the highest level winning two national titles. During college She jumped at an opportunity to go to America on a short term work program and seized the moment. She cleaned motels and houses and hustled side jobs until she saved enough money to move to LA where she took a job at a physical therapy practice. This is where she first encountered Pilates which changed the trajectory of her life forever. In 2005 Laura opened Natural Pilates in a tiny studio space on Santa Monica Blvd across From The Peninsula hotel in Beverly Hills. Today Natural Pilates has expanded to take over the entire building and has expanded to three other prestigious locations with more coming soon. This is a story about the American Dream. About hustle, grit, passion and gratitude and how attitude is everything. Tim and Anthony continue their Home Alone 3 conversation with Abra Moore. Tim's in awe of Alex Pruitt's gigantic brain, and Anthony gets distracted by a Chicago Bulls locker. Abra talks about her diary, and Tim shares some of his grandfather's classic entries in his own diary. Boobs escape the boys, and the butt trauma is aplenty. Traps are elevated to a new level, and the topic of horror movies comes up. Anthony remembers a terrifying James Brolin movie from his childhood, and Tim's bedside manner is nonexistent. The trio answers the question: Does height really matter in the dating world? And Anthony relates everything to Friends. Cinefile! Located on Santa Monica Blvd, near the freeway.

Text from the Crimanimalz: Mission The ride's political stance and agenda was neutral, many participants invoked the group's collective motto: "If you rode a bicycle, you'd be home by now!" -- a statement against oil dependency, in support of sustainable living and a collective critique of the Los Angeles transportation infrastructure. The riders are pointing out that in a city like Los Angeles made for cars, bicycle riders are reaching their destinations faster. Long Term Goals Members of the CRIMANIMALZ are looking for city officials to make bicycle safety a priority, not only through the creation of safe and easy places to ride, but also as a means of transportation on the city's increasingly busy thoroughfares. With rising gas prices and a government encouraging sustainable practices, more people are expected to turn to bikes as an alternative means of transportation. Music: Funderstorm - "Why Didja Duh Eeet" http://www.myspace.com/thefunderstorm The Ride Friday, May 9th, 2008 At 5:30pm starting in Santa Monica, 28 bicyclists took surface streets to the 1-10 Fwy at Bundy and rode 0.44 miles to the I-405 N on-ramp and rode another 1.56 miles to the Santa Monica Blvd. exit during rush hour. The ramp to the I-405 N was a steep grade and 0.65 miles in length. Riders spanned a total of 2.0 freeway miles. The group of riders also hung a 20'x6' banner on the 17th street overpass overlooking the eastbound I-10 Freeway in Santa Monica that read RIDE A BIKE YOU'D BE HOME BY NOW. The sign remained in place for over 48 hours. A bittersweet episode posted to you from San Salvador, El Salvador. The theme for this week's class is authenticity, in sanskrit, aucitya (I certainly hope that I spelled that correctly.) I used Steve Irwin, the Crocodile Hunter and his sudden death as a jumping off point for my theme. What's so strange is that I recorded this class on September 28th and September 29th my grandpa passed away. I listened to what I said about Steve and thought, I could have used my grandfather instead. If there is a word to describe my Grandfather it's authentic. He was all that he could be all the time, and he continued to grow and become more until the very end. You, O God, help to have these words enter his heart: 'It is more important to be of a healthy soul.' Lord, may your blessed will be done in every way! If you want me to heal, then heal me, but if your will is different than that, may I continue to carry my cross. We ask you also for all of those that pray. Somehow I feel I didn't do the prayer justice, for some of the juice was lost in translation. Oh well.
