It is so key to continue to teach ALL children about the complete history of water- I will soon be talking more about our own Maine Tribes and their relationships ships with the fascinating Maine waterways and ocean coast also! Veda Austin, author of The Secret Intelligence of Water, sees water as Source rather than a resource, and considers all bodies of water to be sacred. Her passion for water extends out of the freezer and into primary schools where she donates time teaching water science and cleverly intertwines it with art projects. She loves to reconnect children to the living water systems inside and outside of their bodies, believing that the 'tamariki' (children) are the water bearers of the future. On this podcast, we confront our Mortality head-on so we’re motivated to live NOW. Maybe you’ve listened to some or even all of the episodes, and you’re getting more and more pumped to get after it. But maybe you’re also not sure where to start. On this episode, you’ll learn how to recapture your dreams to discover your very own, unique starting point.   46? Huh. Not Quite What I Expected. I’m 46, and I feel amazed sometimes that I’m still learning some of life’s most basic lessons. Have you ever felt amazed at that? I guess our amazement at this reality reveals an underlying (and flawed) assumption about what being an “adult” would be like. That at this age, we’d “have it all together.” Well... I’m compelled to admit that I don’t have it all together. Do you? If you do, please let me know, and I’ll be right over to sit at your feet and soak in all your wisdom. Then I’ll ghost-write your autobiography and we’ll both enjoy early retirements because you’ll give me a very generous percentage of the royalties. Then we’ll write another book together about how to “retire” early because we’re suddenly “early retirement experts.” This time, though, my name will be on the cover of the book, too, and we’ll split the royalties 50/50. Then we’ll be on Oprah and sell the rights to the movie. It’ll be great! Oh wait. “Retirement” isn’t actually all that awesome. And fame is a tyrant. Nevermind.   Maturity = Acknowledging Our Immaturity Although we adults may inhabit grown-up bodies, in some ways--just by matter of degree--each of us still has some of the characteristics of immature children. Have you ever met a 40-year-old child? A 57-year-old child? A 78-year-old child? I have, and in some ways, I am that adult-child. Maybe one measure of our maturity as adults is the ability to acknowledge the immaturity we still have in adulthood. That acknowledgment keeps the door open for growth in areas where it’s needed.   A Clarification Before We Proceed There are very definitely ways in which shedding the immaturity of youth is right and good and enables we adults to contribute in the world in the ways that only adults can. It’s good that we learn how not to throw temper tantrums in the cereal aisle of the grocery store, for example. However, I think there are many ways in which shedding “childishness” does us more harm than good. This was impressed upon me when, in response to a women’s casual question on a plane regarding my occupation, I replied that I was a coach. And, among other things, I help people “grow up” more completely--by which I meant that I served as a catalyst for helping people assume full responsibility for themselves and the lives they were leading. Her reaction caught me off-guard, though. She retorted instinctively, “I’ll never grow up!” In that moment, my thinking regarding my role in people’s lives as their coach was instantly rewired. I realized that part of “growing up” is actually recapturing some of the characteristics of youth that can get suppressed, squashed, or neglected as adults. Especially the audacious, unfiltered, unapologetic, un-self-conscious ability to dream.   Dream Like a Kid In a Candy Story If you’re a parent, you’re very familiar with being in a toy store or candy store or watching an ad on TV with your child and having them ask you, “Can I have that, Daddy??!!” or, “Can I have that, Mommy, please please please??!!” Kids don’t first reflect on whether something would be a wise purchase or be good for them. They see something they want, and they just ask for it. Can you remember doing that when you were a kid? When was the last time as an adult that you allowed yourself to want something with abandon, like a child would? To dream a big dream and believe that maybe, just maybe, it’s achievable? To tug on the sleeve of God (or the Universe, or whatever / whomever you appeal to in moments of want and need) and ask, “Can I have that please?? Please??!!” I think the willingness to dream big dreams and ask for big things is one of  the most tragic qualities lost in most adults as they “grow up” and take their place as “adults” in the world. And that loss means that many of the greatest contributions we could make in the world never see the light of day.   Thanks, Steve Harvey! I realized this was true of me recently after listening to Steve Harvey share his rags-to-riches story. (He’s got an amazing story, BTW--check out his motivational stuff online.) A big takeaway for me from his story was how clear Steve was on what he wanted in his youth and how enthusiastically he asked God for it. In Steve’s case, he wanted to be on TV and he wanted to be rich. He dreamed and asked and yearned incessantly and unselfconsciously and with abandon. And today, both of his dreams have come true--beyond all reason and evidence to support that those dreams could actually be realized. Steve is quick to point out that the dream did not become reality just because he dreamed it. He worked and persisted and took advantage of every opportunity that came his way. He was an active, alert participant in bringing his dreams to life. But the dreams came first. Our dreams aren’t the only thing, but they are the first thing.   Resuscitating "Childishness" Somewhere along the way, I became very self-conscious of my wants and dreams and learned that it was somehow wrong to want good things for myself and to dream big dreams. I have some awareness about where that self-consciousness and hesitancy came from. But it’s actually less important that I know where they came from than that--once becoming aware of it--I simply resolve to change it, to resuscitate that bit of “childishness” and give myself permission to invite it back into my adulthood. As Steve Harvey said, our dreams are unique to each of us, and they represent things that don’t yet exist in the world but that we could make a reality. And Einstein is attributed as saying that, “Imagination is more important than knowledge.” But we “adults” tend to affirm the opposite and deem ourselves very prudent and sensible for doing so.   Progress Belongs To the Dreamers It’s hard to recall any significant advancement or movement or evolution of humanity that anyone thought was sensible at the time. Rather, a dreamer or two came along and began to assert persistently that what no one else saw or believed was indeed possible. Jesus. Galileo. Our Founding Fathers. Henry Ford. Gandhi. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. All “dreamers” in their own way who sowed seeds of human advancement in ways that most others thought absurd at the time.   Will You Dare To Dream Again? I, for one, am daring to dream again. My family and I made “dream boards” together recently for the first time. I have on mine 30 or more big dreams that I’m bringing to God audaciously and without hesitation or self-consciousness. I’m not under the illusion that all of them will absolutely come true just as I’ve dreamed. But I do know that by holding them back self-consciously or trying to right-size or polish them before bringing them into the light, I’m hedging my bets and bringing half-hearted desires into the world. And half-hearted desires yield mediocre results. I want mind-blowing results. I want the best that this life has to offer, and I want to offer my best in this life. I’m done with half-hearted dreaming. I’ll say it again: Our dreams aren’t the only thing, but they are the FIRST thing. There’s a lot of work between our dream and its fulfillment. But there’s no fulfillment without the dream in the first place.   Let Mortality Motivate You Let’s bring our Mortality into the picture. We’re all going to die. It’s just a matter of when and how. It might be at a ripe old age, or it could be later this very day. Will you invite that awareness into your life to motivate you to take action NOW on the dreams that only you can dream? The dreams that exist only in your heart and mind and no one else’s? It doesn’t have to be a Martin Luther King-sized dream. Or a Galileo-sized dream. Or an Elon Musk-sized dream. It’s a you-sized dream, and that’s just right. Don’t take your dreams to the grave. Go after them with everything you’ve got. Some of them might just come true. Others might not. There’s beauty in their fulfillment, and there’s beauty in the pursuit even when they don’t come true. Ladies and gents, “tomorrow never comes.” There is only today. Dare to dream again. And take one step today, no matter how small, toward fulfilling your dreams.   If This Episode Was Useful to You, Check This One Out, Too If this episode was useful to you, check out episode 009, Awaken Your Inner Kid to be the Best Grown-up You Can Be--a Lighthearted and Enlightening Conversation With My 10-Year-Old Son, Macgray. Strategy Chain

Preview Jocko Willink, Marcelo Garcia, Kurt Osiander, Joel Greenblatt, Seth Godin, Tim Ferriss, and Sun Tzu are all using the same strategic approach to drive their tactical decision-making. It’s a mental model called “catalysts and derivative decisions.” Let’s get into it. Introduction to the concept Warren Buffett says compounding is the 8th wonder of the world. He’s usually talking about the power of reinvestment. That’s either operating cash flow funding reinvestment in a business and creating more future cash flow—or interest from reinvested interest. But compounding exists outside of business and investing. Its mechanics define and drive viral growth, causing positives like agriculture and negatives like COVID-19. It’s something worth understanding. Either way, when we hear people talking about compounding or virality, they’re usually talking about “growth.” But compounding has another critical application: cascading effects—actions that influence later actions. High performers use compounding to create advantages by focusing on catalysts and ignoring “derivative decisions.” In turned-based, position-based, and time-sensitive strategic applications, it’s critical to get ahead and stay ahead. It’s like the saying “an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.” Business, sports, combat—and much of life—falls into this bucket. Let’s explore how titans from different verticals leverage this concept. Jocko Willink Jocko Willink is a retired Navy SEAL Commander with 20 years of service experience. Since retiring, he’s focused on building an expansive business empire. Before leaving the Navy, he had already owned real estate properties and an MMA gym. Since then, he has created a blockbuster podcast on leadership, 10 books, a strategy consulting firm, and an All-American manufacturing company whose products run the gamut: jeans, boots, nutrition products, jiu-jitsu gis, and standard apparel. And he’s only been at it for a decade. If you’ve listened to the podcast, you’ll recognize a few omnipresent themes: “default aggressive” and “be first.” Both of these obey the law of “catalysts.” In true combat and in combat sports, this concept is critical. Being first creates a cascade of better opportunities. Two examples jump to mind: ambush situations and the first minutes of an MMA fight. First—let’s talk about an example of being on the wrong end of the rule. If you’re being ambushed, you’re on what Sun Tzu calls “death ground.” Think of a sinking ship or a burning building. The situation is bad, and it gets worse every second. Without even knowing it, you’ve found yourself several unfavorable steps into a decision tree. But things can and will deteriorate if you delay. Combat veterans call the position where the ambush is triggered the “X.” The idea: get off the X! Things have developed against you, but you can still stop your position from becoming even worse. On the other hand, we have the beginning of the fight. “Be first” means take the fight where you want it to go. If you’re a stronger striker, begin to dismantle the opponent with movement and traps. If you’re a stronger grappler, initiate with takedown pressure. Relentlessly force the opponent into worse positions. Even if you’re globally outmatched by the opponent, you can at the very least maneuver to a position you’re familiar with rather than a place of total confusion. Marcelo Garcia Marcelo Garcia uses the same approach when teaching. His lessons often begin with resetting—breaking the opponent’s initial controlling grips and funneling the fight to a place where you can dominate. Watch his matches—this is something he does relentlessly. A Marcelo Garcia highlight reel is like a technique DVD focused on a single technical pathway to submission. Why? Because he doesn’t accept what Tom DeBlass calls “the mutual agreement,” that the guard passer will (a) allow a guard to be established and then (b) try to dismantle it. Marcelo Garcia aggressively seeks advantage and aggressively breaks any tie that doesn’t favor him. Kurt Osiander As a counterexample, check out this video [ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4l9tP2gRuOo ]of Kurt Osiander explaining how to get out of bottom side control. For the non-BJJ crowd, bottom side control is extremely hard to escape—there are many variations that require different responses. As the bottom player, you’re constantly defending a diverse combination of attacks. For an extremely technical positional breakdown: “bro, you fucked up a long time ago!” Don’t let them get you there. But this theme extends well beyond combat and sports applications. Joel Greenblatt Joel Greenblatt is a legendary investor. Howard Marks—a legend in his own right—describes investment returns in the high teens as being very special. Anything above that level should be viewed as the territory of the very best of the experienced professional investing world. Joel Greenblatt returned 50% per annum for a decade, well over 50x returns. He’s written a deeply technical book about investing opportunity and deeply simple book about beating the market using a simple rule. The first book is called You Can Be a Stock Market Genius. Don’t let the goofy title fool you. It’s one of the best books on public markets investing, period. Joel attributes his success to his methodology—a hyper focus on “special situations” like spinoffs, rights offerings, restructurings, stub stocks, and much more. What’s so “special” about these situations? They are corners of the market where sophisticated players act like idiots for structural reasons. Reasons related to their investing mandates. I love the metaphor he uses for this choice on page 55: So, there I was, at perhaps the finest restaurant in the world, certainly in New York, looking over the menu. Over walks a gentleman in full chef’s garb to help with our order. Somehow, his outfit didn’t tip me off that this was actually Andre Soltner, proprietor and head chef. Pointing to one of the appetizers on the menu, I asked innocently, “Is this one any good?” “No, it stinks!” came Soltner’s reply. Even thought he was just kidding around, I did get the point. Pretty much everything on the menu was going to be good. Selecting Lutece was the important culinary decision, my particular menu choices were just fine tuning. … It’s great to look for investments in places other are not, but it’s not enough. You also have to look in the right places. If you preselect investment areas that put you ahead of the game even before you start (the “Luteces” of the investment world), the most important work is already done. You’ll still have plenty of decisions to make, but if you’re picking and choosing your spots from an already outstanding menu, your choices are less likely to result in indigestion. Seth Godin Continuing along with the “culinary metaphors” to explain the catalysts versus derivative decisions theme, we have some thoughts from Seth Godin in his post “Tires, Coffee, and People.” [ https://seths.blog/2015/09/tires-coffee-and-people/ ] The most important part of a cup of coffee is the beans. The grinder, the machine, the barista pale in comparison to the quality of what you start with. Tim Ferriss And finally, Tim Ferriss is a huge proponent of the concept. Tim calls these high-leverage actions “lead dominos” and describes them as things that “make everything else easier or irrelevant.” Threads to Pull So where does this leave us? I really enjoy the concept of “threads to pull.” Why? Circumstances vary widely, so the execution of certain strategies can become a no go. Specific application is crucial. So while it’s impossible to make blanket statements that will work for any situation, we can always ask ourselves good questions. ·         How can I “be first?” ·         When am I reactive? How can I transition to proactive? ·         What’s at the very beginning of my critical decision tree? ·         Where can I find structural causes of market dislocations? ·         How can I improve the quality of my fundamental building blocks? ·         What rules can I use so that my decision-making doesn’t matter? The U.S. Centers for Disease Control (CDC) estimates that 90% of the US$3.5 trillion in U.S. healthcare costs are due to chronic medical conditions, many which we have spoken about on the show (i.e. heart disease, stroke, cancer, obesity, Alzheimer’s, etc.) and that proper preventative actions could do amazing things in terms of reducing costs and improving quality of life. The Cleveland Clinic: I’m honored today to be joined by Dr. Michael Roizen, a board certified internist and anesthesiologist, who serves as Chief Wellness Officer at the Cleveland Clinic, founding Chair of the Cleveland Clinic Wellness Institute, Professor of Medicine at the Cleveland Clinic Lerner College of Medicine, and developer of the RealAge Test, an innovative metric to help measure a humans biologic and biophysical age (as opposed to chronological age), which has been taken by over 42 million people since 1999. It had been a few days since 28 year old Monica Chisar had returned home from an overseas trip to Portugal. Back in Canada and back at work, a friend gave her a lift after a late shift and dropped her off close to where she was staying. This friend dropped her off at an empty parking lot of a beer store, some 100-200 meters from the apartment building where she was allegedly staying, just after midnight on Wednesday, July 11, 2018. This is the last time anyone has reported seeing or hearing from Monica. In the 1.5 years since her disappearance there have no sightings of Monica as well as no online activity. We speak to Monica's sister in this episode as well as a special guest from Hamilton Crime Stoppers. This is episode 14 "You Can Be a Hammertown Hero" - Part 2 of Monica Chisar's Story. Endless Supplement Racket is Destroying Ancestral Health on Paleo Quick Tip of the Day

Paleo Quick Tip of the Day

I kind of hate to even bring this up… But only Kind Of!It is a story that needs to be told, despite the implications: most of the supplements endlessly recommended and actually shilled by those in the ancestral lifestyle are unnecessary. There, I said it. When good health becomes dependent on people being hooked on artificial supplements, why then it becomes just another marketing gimmick! Just as conventional, AMA big pharma recommended modern medicine, which is largely based on ‘science’ that is 50 years out of date (low fat- high carb nonsense)-Paleo, and increasingly the primary buzzword of KETO are being dominated by the necessity of marketing. That is: selling endless amounts of expensive supplements! If you are seeking lifelong health and fitness, this is not the goal you should be seeking. We need to get back to basics here, to what drew me (and everyone else) to the pristine essense of the ancestral, Paleo Lifestyle in the beginning:EATING REAL FOOD!That, my friends, is the paleo diet in a nutshell- eat real, God made foods, as they come in nature, and ignore the boxed, prepared junk, and fast foods in general. Simple. Easy Peasey. But now- all you hear about is “take this supplement, and this- I sell them both on my website- be sure to order NOW or you are doomed!” While this may be preferrable to taking all of the big Pharma statins, and blood pressure fake medicines, and undergoing every medical test they come up with to separate you from your money- it still is not ideal, and mainly in existence to, again: separate you from your money. But I know, you are concerned about your nutrition, how the depleted soil is making our vegetables less nutritious, and we ‘need’ supplements to keep us healthy…Make your own supplements! That is the simple solution. Get yourself a Vitamix blender, which is the best. This is a one time expense that will ensure your health for a long, long time! Then, start in by making yourself and your family a smoothie to drink each morning. Make a canister full, and put the portions into canning jars that you can refrigerate. Use real veggies and fruits in your smoothies, along with kefir, spices, cod liver oil, apple cider vinegar, raw pastured eggs, yogurt, and everything else I recommend in my eBook Perfectly Paleo Exercise and at my website at paleojay.comIt’s all there, for free! Along with cinnamon, vitamin D liquid, turmeric powder and ginger root and/or ginger powder- this will be everything that you need for perfect and maximum health! EVERYTHING!!It’s really not that hard. (As Michael Scott would say in ‘the Office’). Just take these real, organic (hopefully you are on board with using foods uncontaminated with herbicide poisons), and blend them up to an assimilable state, and drink them down! Keep the rest of your diet clean, meaning good meats, pastured eggs and dairy, and without grains… It’s really that simple. Eat your meat and veggies, occasionally some fruit or sweetener (I am boiling my maple sap into syrup right now), and confine your carbs to sweet or white potatoes, and those that come along with vegetables. That is IT! Along with ample sleep, good, natural (Perfectly Paleo Exercise), clean non-urban air and ample sunshine and time in Nature: why then you will be As Healthy as You Can Be!! Really-

Arcus Hunting product review with Lucas Mashtare – Arcus Hunting, LLC is an acquisition and organic growth platform seeking to build a strong portfolio of leading brands in the bowhunting and archery consumables and accessories category. Under its brands – Tink’s®, Dead Down Wind®, Obsession Bows, Ramcat® Broadheads and Trophy Taker® – Arcus markets and manufactures a range of leading deer lures, attractants, scent control products, and premium bows. Dead Down Wind – Dead Down Wind’s focus has always been to produce the safest, most effective products possible by using science as our foundation. We are driven to develop products capable of eliminating the toughest and widest range of odors. Contrary to what a competitor may claim, there isn’t a single product that is effective on EVERY type of odor. From the beginning, Dead Down Wind has led the way, using real science and developing specific products to control the odors that matter. Scent prevention is a process and a routine. Hunters plan and strategize each and every season on how to go undetected for that opportunity of a lifetime. The goal being to reduce your odor signatures to the lowest possible level. Dead Down Wind uses enzymes – a natural catalyst for change. They break down odors at a molecular level, a process we call Enzyme ScentPrevent® or ESP. The use of enzymes allows Dead Down Wind products to eliminate a wider range of odors. We call this technology 3D+ Broad Spectrum. While some might have you believe the only thing you need to concern yourself with is bacteria related to perspiration, that is simply not the case. Hunters carry many foreign odors to the field that can alert whitetail or other big game animals. The science behind a big game animal’s nose will tell you it’s looking for any telltale odor that might give them an idea of who or what is in the area. That’s why we specifically formulate a broad range of odor control, not just one type of bacteria. Dead Down Wind does not offer cover scent. Scent prevention is a discipline and process that requires a complete system that focuses on our three-phase system – Laundry, Hygiene and Field – which actively work together to kill bacteria, not just covering odor but annihilating right at the source. Tink’s – Established in 1972, Tink’s® has been the number one brand, and number one performing line in deer scents and lures. Trusted by generations of hunters for nearly 50 years, Tink’s® lures meet the needs of every phase of the hunt along with a broad variety of dispenser options. Tink’s® natural whitetail lures are certified CWD-free, extensively tested for effectiveness, and simple to use. Whether you’re hunting trophy whitetails, black bears, big bull elk, monster moose, pigs or predators, we have a product to help you succeed. Proven Innovation. Proven Results. Obsession Bows – Obsession crashed the established bow industry party with designs by engineers obsessed with perfection for those who refuse to settle for yesterday’s technology. Hunters, competitors, and enthusiasts of every caliber have something to gain from an Obsession, from bragging rights in camp, a spot on the medal stand, or winning the backyard bet. Based in a one-stoplight town in the state of Georgia, our small-town values center on family, friends, and a never-ending commitment to building the very best products for every caliber of archer. We understand bows are a significant investment for our customers and we value the trust you place in us when you purchase an Obsession. Our drive to excel, to “Change Or Get Left Behind,” enables us to continue to defy expectations and be the technological leader of the industry. Ramcat – The Ramcat is a wickedly accurate, absolutely devastating broadhead. Much more than a cut-on-contact or chisel-tip broadhead, the tip of every Ramcat is a purpose-driven, technically superior design with a multi-faceted focus: Concave scoops create an airfoil that eliminate wind planing and forces air to slip over the ferrule and arrow shaft for best-in-class accuracy and impact energy. On impact, the airfoil creates an outward force on flesh, pushing it away from the shaft for exceptional penetration and a massive wound channel. This performance is achieved with any recurve, compound or crossbow, at any speed. Today’s lineup of Ramcat broadheads are the most advanced, best performing, best value for bowhunters. Hits Like A Ram, Cuts Like A Cat! Trophy Taker – For twenty years Trophy Taker has built a reputation for easy-to-install and silent arrow rests that are tough enough for hardcore hunters, with the reliability that sends competitive archers to the medal stand. A never-ending commitment to excellence is the driving force behind Trophy Taker and we back it with a lifetime warranty. Today, the quality and performance of Trophy Taker has expanded to include more vital accessories for today’s performance archer. Everything we build is designed to perform – it’s just that simple. Perform, don’t fail, so you can achieve. What began in the rugged mountains of Montana is now an attitude shared across the country: don’t settle for compromises, there is a better way. We think our customers agree, You Can Settle, or You Can Be a Trophy Taker!

The spin-off companies are usually small in size, and are not worth for institutional investors.
