Most men carry a deep drive to provide, to accomplish, and to be productive — and that is not a bad thing. But Psalm 112 holds out a vision of what a father's life looks like when it is rooted in something deeper than hard work: a fear of the Lord, a delight in His commandments, and a trust that God is the ultimate provider. The man who seeks the Lord in this way is called blessed — and so are his children after him. This is not a passage about quick wealth. It is a picture of the generational fruit that grows when a father leads his family by orienting his own life around God first. More than teaching children how to work hard or use their gifts, a father who fears the Lord and hungers for His Word gives his children one of the greatest treasures they will ever receive. Praying for the fathers in our lives — for their rest, their walk with God, their wisdom and strength — is one of the most powerful things we can do for our families. Today's Bible Verse "Blessed is the man who fears the Lord, who greatly delights in his commandments! His offspring will be mighty in the land; the generation of the upright will be blessed."— Psalm 112:1-2, ESV Ponder Today A father who fears the Lord gives his children one of the greatest gifts imaginable. More than work ethic, provision, or even good values, a dad whose life is genuinely oriented around God gives his children a model worth imitating and a legacy worth inheriting. The blessings of Psalm 112 flow from the fear of the Lord, not from hard work alone. A man who delights in God's commandments and trusts in His Word positions his family to receive both spiritual and material blessing — not as a formula, but as a fruit of a life surrendered to God. The drive to provide is good — but balance between work and rest matters. God Himself rested on the seventh day. A father who cannot slow down risks running on empty in the very areas his family needs him most: presence, patience, and spiritual leadership. Apart from God's grace, every father is limited. The wisest thing any man can do is lean on the Lord for wisdom and strength in everything he puts his hand to, rather than relying on his own capacity alone. Praying for the fathers in our lives is one of the most powerful things we can do for our families. Whether a father knows the Lord deeply or is still far from faith, interceding for his walk with God, his rest, and his leadership has eternal significance for generations to come. A Prayer for You Today Heavenly Father, we pray for the men in our lives. If the father of our children does not yet know You, we pray that You would draw him to Yourself and give him a hunger for Your Word. We pray that he will learn the importance of rest so that he can be restored. We ask that he would lean upon Your grace in all that You have called him to do. Thank You for being a faithful Father who always provides for our needs. We pray that the father of our children always looks to You first for wisdom and strength as he learns to walk in Your righteous ways and leads his children in the knowledge and love of You. An Uber driver named Esbon Kamau picked up a sixteen-year-old rider who was on his way to purchase a motorcycle—a gift from his father. After Kamau dropped the passenger off, he noticed the teen had left a bag in the back seat. There was $8,000 inside—the cash needed for the purchase of the motorcycle. Kamau quickly contacted Uber to try and locate the passenger. Soon Kamau delivered the cash back to the grateful, relieved young man. “Do the right thing at the right time,” Kamau said, “and don’t let selfishness overpower [you]." Kamau displayed integrity. He resisted making a fast buck or taking advantage of someone’s mistake. Instead, he chose to simply do the right thing. “Whoever walks in integrity walks securely,” Proverbs says (10:9). When we practice integrity, we never have to worry about remembering what we said to whom, because truth is our only concern. When we practice integrity, we don’t have to fear for our reputation or that our schemes will catch up with us. We don’t have to be concerned about being a person whose “crooked paths will be found out” (v. 9). We simply live true—displaying wisdom (v. 13) that comes from God. We’re secure and free in Him. We face numerous temptations to lie or manipulate in life, but God calls us to walk with Him. And as we do, we can lead “blameless” (v. 29) lives of integrity.

We think if we had a nicer car, or a bigger house, or a larger salary, or a new face, or new body, then we’d be content. But Max Lucado says: “The good life begins not when circumstances change but when our attitude toward them does.” And writing to the Christians in Philippi, the apostle Paul said, “Not that I was ever in need, for I have learned how to be content with whatever I have. I know how to live on almost nothing or with everything. I have learned the secret of living in every situation, whether it is with a full stomach or empty, with plenty or little.” (Philippians 4:11–12 NLT). Paul was in difficult circumstances when he wrote these words. He wasn’t spouting theories from an ivory tower. He was under house arrest, writing from the school of hard knocks. Yet Paul found contentment because he rejoiced in the Lord. Earlier in Philippians 4, he wrote, "Rejoice in the Lord always. Again I will say, rejoice!" (verse 4 NKJV). He didn’t say that we should rejoice in circumstances. Sometimes that’s hard to do. But Paul did say that we should rejoice in the Lord. The tassels have turned, the extra-long twin bed sheets have been purchased, and the warm summer nights are running out. College move-in day is coming, and no matter how ready, eager, or excited a young person appears, there is almost always a mind quietly running through doubts, what-ifs, and questions about what the future actually holds. Even good change can spark anxiety. And in that uncertainty, one of the most irreplaceable gifts a parent, mentor, or advocate can offer is simply the assurance that their hand is extended — that there is a safe place to return to when the road ahead gets complicated. First Samuel 16 captures the beginning of a bond between Samuel and David that would prove to be exactly that kind of gift years later. Samuel anointed the young shepherd boy who would one day be king, seeing not outward appearance but what God saw — a heart fully devoted to Him. And when David's life unraveled, when Saul's jealousy became a death threat and David had nowhere to turn, he went to Samuel. Not because he had to, but because Samuel was someone he could trust when he did not know what to do next. That is the role God calls us to play in the lives of young people — not hand-holders, but steady, available, trustworthy presences who offer guidance and shelter when the world grows complicated. Whether it is a care package, a timely text, or a vulnerably shared testimony, God uses the small faithful acts of those who show up to shape the hearts of the young people He has entrusted to our care. Today's Bible Verse "For the Lord sees not as man sees: man looks on the outward appearance, but the Lord looks on the heart."— 1 Samuel 16:7, ESV Ponder Today Even confident, eager young people carry hidden doubts and fears. No matter how ready a college student appears on the outside, they are still navigating insecurity and uncertainty within. Knowing a trusted person is available makes all the difference. The most powerful thing you can offer is a steady, available presence. Samuel did not micromanage David's journey. He was simply someone David could call on and trust when things fell apart. That kind of availability is a profound gift to any young person. Small, Spirit-prompted acts carry more weight than we realize. A care package, a text, a shared testimony offered at the right moment — when God nudges you toward a young person in your life, trust that He has an intentional purpose for that nudge. Our greatest prayer for the young people we love is that they would call God their Father. More than academic success, professional achievement, or personal happiness, we want to see them surrender their lives to Jesus Christ and become the men and women of God He crafted them to be. A Prayer for You Today Father God, thank You for the young people in our lives. We recognize what an accomplishment it is as they venture into the next stage of life. We recall our own days of feeling nervous, curious, and hopeful all at once, and we lift up these young hearts before You. Make us keenly aware of how we can be the hands and feet of Jesus to them, not only today but in the weeks and years ahead. Move us to share our testimonies vulnerably so that no young person ever feels that no one understands or that they are completely alone. And more than anything else, move in their lives, hearts, and minds that they may call You their Father and surrender to Your Son, Jesus Christ, as their Savior. We do not take lightly the calling to be present in their lives. In Jesus' holy name, Amen. Last October, Pastor Wang Lin, one of the leaders in Zion Church in China, was arrested and imprisoned under false charges of "fraud" and "illegal business practices." Sarah Su (Su Ziming in Chinese), wife of Pastor Wang, recounts the day her husband was arrested and the Christian persecution they faced even before he was imprisoned. Sarah will share about her husband's role in Zion Church's leadership and in training other leaders, how the church continues to reach many people despite persecution from the Chinese Communist Party, and recent updates about Pastor Wang's condition in prison. "The moment I married Wang Lin, I have decided to face all this together," Sarah says. "I knew that his mission was to train and disciple more Christians in China…I knew something like [this] would happen one day." You'll hear from Sarah how she continues to face this persecution with courage, faithfully enduring times of worry and loneliness. She will share how she and her husband both are committed to serve the Lord—no matter the cost. Zion Church made international headlines during President Trump's visit to Xi Jinping in Beijing in May and with the release of Zion senior pastor Ezra Jin from prison during America's July 4 celebrations. Sarah thanks God for Jin's release, and says the case against Zion Church continues, with eight church leaders remaining in prison. She asks that we pray for their release, the dismissal of charges, for their physical and spiritual health, and for her and her children, along with family members of the other persecuted Christians from Zion Church. But to this day, I think it is pathetic that I have to rely on one Congressman to bring forth articles of impeachment and force votes, and that's Representative Green.Jessica DensonNews 7/31/26* Our top stories this week have to do with the Democratic National Committee. Several stories have recently come out about DNC Chair Ken Martin, ranging from interpersonal issues to his utter failure to raise money for the Democratic Party. The most stunning example of this comes from NOTUS, which reports that Martin “put [the DNC's] physical headquarters up for collateral last year in order to obtain a $15 million line of credit to help invest in off-year elections.” While the party has used this mechanism before, it underlines the gaping disparity between the DNC, which is currently over $2 million in debt compared to the Republican National Committee (RNC), which can boast $128.5 million cash on-hand.* Compounding the issues of the already cash-strapped DNC, the New Republic reports the Democratic National Committee was scammed out of nearly $29,000 by an email from someone pretending to be Chair Ken Martin last year. DNC spokesperson Mia Ehrenberg is quoted saying “The DNC takes seriously our duty to protect the funds provided to us by millions of patriotic Americans chipping in to fund our mission…this was a one-off mistake that was promptly caught and addressed, and no similar issues have occurred since.” That said, only $7,000 worth of this money has been recovered. As TNR puts it, “This has all been very embarrassing. Martin can't raise money, can't keep money, and can't unite the base under the big tent' he likes to talk about.” Martin may also be facing an outright rebellion led by party insiders.* One surprising proposal to this effect is coming from a very unlikely source. The Hill reports veteran Democratic strategist James Carville, while tearing into Martin, opened the door to former DNC Vice-Chair David Hogg taking the reins. Carville said the DNC appears “dysfunctional” and that the committee needs to “figure out a way maybe they could be somewhat relevant,” adding that “If David Hogg wants to take it over, I ain't stopping you…Go ahead, man, I don't really care.” This is a stark turnabout from Carville's position on Hogg when the latter was in DNC leadership; back then, Carville dismissed him as “a contemptible little twerp.” In an interview, Hogg highlighted this exact reversal, while simultaneously saying that he did not want to lead the crumbling Democratic Party organization. Ben Wikler, the former Wisconsin Democratic Party Chair who challenged Ken Martin in 2025 has also resisted calls to take over the DNC, with rumors circulating that he is gearing up to run for Senate in the Badger State next cycle. While pressure continues to mount on Martin, alternative leadership remains elusive.* Speaking of lackluster leadership, Sources Say News reports Capitol CNCT has launched The Scoop which they describe as “a confidential rating system that lets current and former Hill staffers weigh in on the members and offices they have worked for.” As one might imagine, some reviews are extremely scathing. This piece cites one that reads, “Leadership is abusive. Lies about promotions and bonuses…This place will leach at your mental health like a vampire…Beware.” Sources Say highlights the fact that “Unlike most workplaces, Congress has no HR department, which means bad behavior by members and senior staff can go unreported and unchecked for years.” The new site verifies that the posters are or were real employees of these offices, but keeps their names anonymous to protect them from retaliation.* In more news from Congress, POLITICO reports Maryland Representative and House Judiciary Committee ranking member Jamie Raskin is launching a new investigation into Jeffrey Epstein, this time focusing on whether the deceased sex offender and financier acted as an unregistered foreign agent. In a letter to Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, and Director of National Intelligence Jay Clayton, Raskin writes that “Jeffrey Epstein never registered as a foreign agent…Yet numerous recently released documents now show he acted aggressively on behalf of multiple foreign governments, including several with interests adverse to the United States, in order to influence policies of the first Trump Administration.” The declassified files reveal that Epstein “offered to serve as a conduit between Saudi Arabia and members of the Trump administration, consulted with Russian officials on engaging with the president and advised former Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Barak.” This inquiry is likely to raise fresh questions about not only Epstein's role working on behalf of foreign governments, but his possible connections with intelligence and espionage organizations including the CIA and Mossad.* Other progressive members of Congress, led by Congresswoman Ilhan Omar, have issued a formal response to a new Trump administration report on Cuba. These members interpret this report – which claims that the tiny Caribbean nation of 10 million people has “waged a sustained campaign” to “conquer” the United States and is backing “left-wing terrorism on American soil” – is in fact an instrument the administration plans to use to persecute “Trump's perceived political enemies.” Omar, joined by Representatives Jim McGovern, Delia Ramirez, Rashida Tlaib, AOC and more, contend that Trump is “hell-bent on taking America back 70 years to the height of Cold War McCarthyism, when hawkish foreign policy was paired with unsubstantiated accusations of communist subversion and political repression against dissidents at home.” The administration report singled out several organizations and activists, including the National Lawyers Guild, Hasan Piker, and campus activist Isra Hirsi, daughter of Congresswoman Omar. This from Common Dreams.* In more news from the left, POLITICO reports Donavan McKinney – who is challenging incumbent Congressman Shri Thanedar in Detroit – picked up a major batch of endorsements this week from members of the Congressional Black Caucus. These new endorsers include Representatives Steven Horsford, the former chair of the CBC, along with Lateefah Simon and Ayanna Pressley. These endorsements, particularly that of Congressman Horsford, are notable because Thanedar retains the support of House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries and his deputies, Representatives Pete Aguilar and Katherine Clark. McKinney said he was “honored” by these endorsements, adding that he “[looks] forward to working alongside these incredible leaders to pass critical legislation to protect voting rights, get big money out of our politics, and ensure all families have access to the resources they need to not just survive, but to truly thrive.” McKinney's primary will be held on August 4th, along with the more closely watched Senate primary between progressive Abdul El-Sayed and his moderate, establishment-backed opponent Haley Stevens.* Meanwhile, in New York City, Mayor Zohran Mamdani continues to fulfill campaign promises at an astonishing rate. First, Forbes reports that Mamdani has officially introduced a $124.7 billion city budget which includes funding for five city-run grocery stores which will sell staple foods at a 30% discount compared to private grocery stores. These staples are set to include produce, dairy, bread, select meat and seafood, and approximately 20 other products. Being city-owned, these stores will not have to pay rent or property taxes, ensuring they can operate more cheaply than their competitors in the private sector. This piece notes that similar experiments in smaller cities like Baldwin, Florida, and Erie, Kansas proved unsustainable financially, while proposals in Chicago and Kansas City struggled to get off the ground. There is reason to believe New York will prove a different matter entirely, but that remains to be seen. At the same time, Jacobin reports Mamdani is launching a new initiative called “Talk to Tenants,” which will “send volunteers door-to-door in buildings with chronic housing code violations, connecting renters with organizing resources, neighborhood organizations, and training on tenants' rights and how to build tenant associations.” This effort will be led by the Office of Mass Engagement in partnership with the Office to Protect Tenants. It is extremely encouraging to see Mamdani utilizing a varied array of tools at his disposal – including both direct action by the city as on grocery stores or using city resources to promote the formation of non-governmental organizing efforts – in order to achieve his vision of a just and affordable American metropolis.* In more troubling, if not surprising, news, the Wall Street Journal is out with a new report finding that the Department of Justice is giving a green light to corporate criminals. The Journal cites examples ranging from Alibaba to Boeing and EagleBank to Abbott Laboratories where the Trump DOJ “declined to charge companies even when prosecutors thought executives or managers were involved in the wrongdoing.” This follows from directives given by Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche, who has “said prosecutors shouldn't view prosecuting companies as their goal and should instead focus on holding individual wrongdoers accountable.” This piece cites a December speech by Blanche in which he stated that “Companies don't go to jail, people do.” Yet, it seems that under the Trump Justice Department, neither do.* Finally, in more corporate news, the antitrust lawsuit filed by over a dozen state attorneys general has at least temporarily succeeded in halting the mega-merger between Warner Bros. Discovery and the Ellisons' media conglomerate, Paramount Skydance. After the lawsuit was filed, a federal judge in Oakland ordered a pause on the deal, and since then, the Ellisons themselves have agreed to put the merger “on ice” pending the outcome of the trial, Variety reports. This piece also highlights the private sentiments of anonymous Warner Bros. executives who apparently hope that the deal hits a “legal landmine” and is ultimately “nixed.” However, in an internal memo, David Ellison maintained that “the facts and the law are on our side, and a full hearing will demonstrate why the plaintiffs' arguments should not prevail.”This has been Francesco DeSantis, with In Case You Haven't Heard. Michele experienced a mixture of emotions as her father neared the end of his life. She grieved when he said, “Honey, I won’t be here to walk you down the aisle.” But she assured him of her love, clinging to the hope she found in Hebrews 11 as she said: “You’re heading for a better country, a country in heaven.” Michele believed that her dad, when he died, would be with God forever. She reflected, “Heaven will be that good!” The letter to the Hebrews was aimed at the Jewish believers experiencing persecution by state and religious opponents. Although it was written before the destruction of the temple in ad 70, the fall of Jerusalem to the Romans may have occurred soon after. In this climate of fear, the author urged the believers to hold firm to their faith as he highlighted a great “cloud of witnesses” (Hebrews 12:1). Each “did not receive the things promised; they only saw them and welcomed them from a distance” (Hebrews 11:13). They lived by faith, “longing for a better country—a heavenly one.” God was pleased to be called their God, and He “prepared a city for them” (v. 16). Although Michele ached with sadness when her father died, she embraced the promises of her heavenly Father. We too can welcome these same promises “from a distance” (v. 13), trusting in God.

Raëlism is a UFO-centered new religious movement founded in France in 1974 by Claude Vorilhon, who later called himself Raël. He claimed that extraterrestrial scientists known as the Elohim contacted him and revealed that they created all life on Earth through advanced genetic engineering. Raëlians interpret ancient gods, angels and religious miracles as misunderstood encounters with these beings, while figures such as Jesus, Buddha and Muhammad are viewed as messengers sent by the Elohim. Raëlians generally reject a supernatural God and an immortal soul. Instead, they believe science—especially cloning and memory transfer—could eventually allow humans to overcome death. Their practices include “sensual meditation,” personal freedom, sexual openness, nonviolence and enthusiasm for scientific advancement. A major goal of the movement is constructing an official embassy where the Elohim could someday return publicly to Earth. These teachings remain religious claims rather than scientifically established facts, and the movement has attracted controversy over its leadership structure, sexual teachings and highly publicized but unverified human-cloning claims.
