Check out the whole show, FREE with a 7-day trial to my Patreon!Ben and EZ had fun with a "2-era EZ show" We dipped into May of 2003 as EZ was teamed up with Greg and Chris from the comfy studio confines of Princeton, New Jersey as "The Hawk Morning Show" was taking flight. This incarnation of EZ was garbage, like the rest of them, but you get the feeling that EZ has no idea how horrible he was with jokes and timing. However, EZ's lackluster performance is covered up by telling various New Jersey audience members that they are "deaf, stupid, fat, ugly...etc." Then, Ben and EZ travel back six years to The Joe and the Poorboy Show. This era of EZ makes "the Jersey years" sound like radio hall of fame material. EZ (and Joe) may be the two most insensitive people on planet earth as they chuckle along to a story about some poor dude who fell from the upper deck of the Silverdome, to his death at a Rolling Stones concert. Jimmy Kimmel v Aaron Rodgers, Jeffrey Epstein list, Ian Ziering: fight starter, makeup-free Pam Anderson is back, Led Zeppelin at the Silverdome, and Drew finally beat Adam Rich. Adam Rich put up a good fight… but Drew has finally passed him on Twitter! Ian Ziering sure seems like the aggressor in the mini-bike fight. Boring Austin Green weighs in and sleepily has his back. Amy Robach and TJ Holmes ratings are fluctuating. We've stolen Tania's Pizza as an advertiser from Jason Carr Drive! Aaron Rodgers and Jimmy Kimmel are beefing. The Jeffrey Epstein list should be coming out very shortly… or not. Claudine Gay is still a professor at Harvard. OJ Simpson was almost The Terminator. Kanye West has tax and money problems. Charly Jordan was hospitalized for quitting marijuana. Snoop Dogg's joining the NBC Olympic coverage. There are ‘Decker Reported' billboards all over Metro Detroit. Some people are saying they should be in Dallas. Miami Dolphins WR Tyreek Hill's mansion was on fire today. All of the felony charges against Jackson Mahomes have been dropped. Lizzo is “skinny” now. Pamela Anderson is going makeup-free and we're not impressed. She's still dying her hair and shaving her armpits. Valerie Bertinelli takes on “the haters”. More women come forward against American Idol producer Nigel Lythgoe. Jada Pinckett Smith looks like Fat Joe. Drew Crime: The Boyz N the Hood murderer, Lloyd Avery II. Sarah Palin and Ron Duguay are going strong and hanging out with Little Steven. Drew updates us on the health of Jonathon Brandmeier. Video exists of Led Zeppelin at The Silverdome in 1977. Drew and Trudi are still complaining about the long line at Ken Calvert's wake. A porn producer signed a rocket meant for Gaza and the porn industry is angry. Does Gator regret not going to the Silverdome for Wrestlemania?
In the spring of 1997, a mysterious 4x6-in. snapshot showed up in the marketing department of Oakley. The subject was one of their young riders, 17-year-old Ricky Carmichael, laying his motorcycle flat at the Silverdome. It was a mystery because nobody knew who took the photo. The decision to run with the image, including using it on a billboard in Southern California, made for one legendary tale that wasn't told for over two decades. And it turned the photographer, David St. Onge, into a cult hero among the motocross photographers of the late 1990s. Now you can own a piece of this quirky moment in motocross history. This 12-in. x 16-in. print is inspired by the photo that David St. Onge took from the 17th row at the 1997 Pontiac Supercross. Hang a piece of moto history on your wall. This Ricky Carmichael poster is inspired by the photograph. FREE STICKERS: If you'd like free We Went Fast stickers, go to wewentfast.com/subscribe. Sign up for the newsletter then check your inbox. What could be made out of the curtain.
Monday, May 30, 1983. Tampa Bay Bandits (9-3) at Michigan Panthers (7-5). Attendance: 23,976. TV: ESPN. [Note: If you want to skip all the pregame talk, you can forward to about the 4:00 minute mark where the kickoff is set to begin] Terry Miller might have surprised some of the folks around the United States Football League with his two-touchdown performance for the Michigan Panthers. Don't include Panthers Coach Jim Stanley in that group. Miller, acquired from the Denver Gold last week, rushed for 55 yards on 12 carries with TD runs of 5 and 10 yards to lead Michigan to a 43-7 tout over the Tampa Bay Bandits before a crowd of 23,976 in the Silverdome at Pontiac. "I've known what Terry can do for many years," said Stanley, who recruited Miller out of high school and had him at Oklahoma State from 1974 to 1978. "We already had some good backs here, but when he became available, I felt he could help us, too." The Panthers also got a boost from quarterback Bobby Hebert, who completed 13 of 23 passes for 166 yards and one touchdown, and a fired-up defense that forced four fumbles, blocked a punt and recorded six sacks for 48 yards. "All year long, we'd make mistakes, but our defense would bail us out," said Tampa Bay Coach Steve Spurrier of his club's play. "We couldn't do it today. Michigan got up early and never quit" Michigan's 43 points was the highest of any team in the USFL as the Panthers raised their record to 8-5 in the Central Division. Tampa Bay and Chicago share the Central lead with 9-4 records. Tampa Bay's lone touchdown came on Jimmy Jordan's 37-yard pass to Eric Truvillion in the third quarter.

Today we crack open the 20x20 RWD Time Capsule dated March 29, 1987 - the morning of WrestleMania 3. We were there in the parking lot of the Silverdome, recording the whole time, knowing that in 30+ years, we would be listening to these tapes and recalling the fond memories of the day. Don't worry - Peter and Chris don't only talk about the wrestling event of the evening; we dive into local sports, music, movies and general pop culture of March 1987. Specific topics include: the string of Piper's Pit segments leading up to WM3; love connections via the Observer; LJN Figures; Transformers The Movie; Steve Yzerman; Jim Harbaugh; the Motor City Kitties; Bon Jovi, and more. Special guest appearances by Aaron Bauer and Greg Iron [Iron On Wrestling - IG, Twitter, YouTube, Patreon] and Uncle Terry (aka Garrett Fuller) [Wayne County Lyfe -Big Cartel Store; Facebook; IG; Twitter; YouTube] The 20x20 Rewind is sponsored by Wrestling Travel. Everyone's favorite adult retro game show is back and we tee off the month with a best of March battle. This week we are honored to have the incredibly versatile writer-director-actor Joel Murray pick up the gavel. One Crazy Summer is one of our favorite films here at Dueling Decades and Joel’s portrayal of the best friend everyone wanted to have, George Calamari definitely left its mark on us. Joel has had an amazing career in film, TV, and animation, working on some of our favorites like Mad Men, Dharma & Greg, Monsters University, The Artist, and God Bless America directed by his good friend Bobcat Goldthwait. So, Make sure your tray is in its upright position because Mancrush crashes into this one with the best of March 1977 aboard. Marc James asks whatcha’ gonna do when March 1987 runs wild on you? Also, Joe Findlay is back in action this week with the best of March 1997, Baby-Baby! Joel swings the gavel like he swings a golf club; swift and hard! When Joel isn't delivering verdicts, he's sharing some incredible stories! So in this episode, you may hear something about the wrong way to console a widow, clueless "movie critics", George Kennedy's affinity for disasters, Danny Glover's soft voice, Sybian adventures, NASA probes Uranus, scalping specials from the Silverdome, Joel talks Heels, sex-drugs and Atari, life after death, Nickelback of the 80s saves 29 Palms, The Pauly & Corey show, ABC stumbles into a ratings juggernaut, a horrible graduation party, Joel serves Bob Weir, strengthen your pecs with a Thighmaster, Bono's sunglasses, promo codes for William Murray Golf, Joel escorts Nikki Sixx's girlfriend, Cusack's missing credit card, the life of a cheesy mascot, eight is not enough, a supernatural high school, tales of a crazy summer in Nantucket, and who skipped the Oscars for a basketball game?! All this week and more, on this week's Dueling Decades! Do you agree with Joel's rulings? Play at home and judge for yourself! While you're at it, send your rulings to our Facebook and pick up 20 points on the Dueling Decades Leaderboard! Please don't forget to subscribe and review! Motivation and Inspiration Interviews with Professor of Perseverances
On November 17, 1991, Detroit Lions’ offensive guard Mike Utley (#60) was paralyzed during an NFL game against the Los Angeles Rams at the Silverdome in Detroit, MI. Mike’s courageous “Thumbs Up” gesture as he was carried from the field has come to symbolize his fighting spirit. In the years since sustaining his injury Mike has focused all of his time and energy through countless hours of therapy and rehabilitation striving to fulfill his goal; to someday walk unassisted off of the Ford Field. In addition to his rehabilitative efforts to walk again, in January of 1992 Mike took on a new challenge; that of helping all people disabled by spinal cord injuries (SCI). The Mike Utley Foundation was therefore established to provide financial support for research, rehabilitation and education for SCI related injuries. We are dedicated to finding a cure and to provide motivational and emotional support for individuals who have been disabled with such injuries. 00:01 Mike Utley Opening Statement02:20 Mike’s Story07:55 Depression14:30 Support System21:37 Thumbs Up!23:25 Set Goals25:21 Inducted College Hall of Fame31:04 Mike Utley Foundationhttps://www.mikeutley.org/33:11 Mike’s Motivational StatementTo learn more about James, visit Professor of Perseverance. Jonathan Hood was joined by Kris Zellner on the passing of Harley Race. They discussed Harley's career as NWA Champion, his run with WWF, booking in Central States Wrestling in Kansas City and much more. Follow TWT: www.twitter.com/wrestlingtwt www.instagram.com/wrestlingtwt Follow Kris: www.twitter.com/kriszellner Podcast: https://soundcloud.com/btspod http://placetobenation.com/category/podcasts/exile-on-badstreet/ Former NWA World Heavyweight Champion Harley Race referred to himself as "The Greatest Wrestler on God's Green Earth" and with good reason. After winning three AWA World Tag Team Championships, the NWA World Team Championship and becoming the first United States Champion, Race won no less than seven NWA World Heavyweight Championships. The Handsome One won those titles from WWE Hall of Famers, Dory Funk, Jr., Terry Funk, Dusty Rhodes and Ric Flair. Race's seven reigns stood as a record number of World Heavyweight Title reigns until Ric Flair won his eigth in 1991. To this day, only a handful of men can claim to have won more World Heavyweight Championships than Harley Race and none would dare claim they are tougher. During the 1970s and early '80s, Race was the NWA's most dominant champion, representing the sport's oldest World Heavyweight Title with pride and defending it all over the world with his raw-boned and rugged mat style. His impact in sports-entertainment was so great that WWE made Race the first NWA World Heavyweight Champion to engage in historic title unification matches against WWE Champions like "Superstar" Billy Graham and Bob Backlund. Race finally joined WWE full-time during the company's national expansion, and was introduced to a new generation of sports-entertainment fans worldwide as "The King" Harley Race. Clad in regal robes and a crown, he faced the late Junkyard Dog in a memorable encounter at WrestleMania III in front of over 93,000 fans at the Silverdome in Pontiac, Michigan and was the one of the earliest King of the Ring tournament winners in 1986, years before that event became an annual pay-per-view spectacular. Harley Race was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2004 and is still regarded as one of the most legitimately toughest men in sports-entertainment history.
Thirty-one years later, WrestleMania III goes down as one of the most-memorable, most groundbreaking, most influential professional wrestling events of all time. It was the glory days of Hulkamania and pitted Hogan against the legendary Andre the Giant. It was a match that did not get the greatest of reviews, but has stood the test of time as one of the most iconic matches ever. It also gave us Randy Savage against Ricky Steamboat in truly one of the greatest matches on a wrestling pay per view event. Enough with the platitudes, it's time to load up the video from the day at the Silverdome. Do you remember? Well, now remember it with Conrad and Tony. It’s a GIANT WEEK on Hysteria 51! Nope, not a clever euphemism, this week we’re talking REAL LIFE GIANTS! We don’t mean regular folks with Gigantism. And we’re not talking about your buddy from college that was, like, really tall. No, we’re talking honest to goodness Giants. Beings that look like you or I but use oak trees for toothpicks and are customarily accompanied by Babe the Blue Ox. OK, that might just be Paul Bunyan, but you get the point. Are these creatures descendants of Angels? Another race of bipedal hominids? ALIENS? And no matter what they were – are they still around? This week we grab our slingshots and aim to find out. Plus, we talk our favorite Andre the Giant moments, discuss our favorite bar in the land of Giants (Alton, Il), and MOWENS makes his long awaited return to the lower 4th. All of that and more on the podcast that’s never met a giant, but got pretty close to one at the Silverdome in Detroit in 87 – Hysteria 51.

The latest Lapsed Fan is bigger, it's badder, and it's better. Anything less would be inappropriate.Hosts Jack Encarnacao and JP Sarro dive into the cavernous environs of the once-mighty Pontiac Silverdome for a wall-to-wall breakdown of Wrestlemania III, a banner night for professional wrestling and a true milestone on the Lapsed Fan's 30-week, 30-Wrestlemania journey. We cover all bases, from Aretha Franklin to Hulk Hogan slamming Andre the Giant, with a tremendous assist from wrestling guru Dave Meltzer. The show covers:- The real 78,000 attendance figure for show, and how we can be sure- A sentimental sojourn to the Silverdome's parking lot in 2007- What there is to learn about a perfect wrestling payoff from Piper v. Adonis- Steamboat v. Savage, and why it's annoying to pretend it wasn't an all-time classic- Recollections of whether or not Andre got the 3 on Hogan's first botched slam attempt - Bundy squashes a midget (commentators' term, not ours)- Alice Cooper's strange combination of apprehension and stubbornness while wielding Jake's snake - Your hosts take tremendous artistic liberties envisioning the conversation between Vince McMahon and Andre on the set of “The Princess Bride,” trying to sell the big man on working the big show- And laughing. So much laughing you'll tell yourself you're going to stop listening (but you won't)Get on board that Lapsed Fan locomotive, as we make our third stop in Pontiac, 1987, the big one, Wrestlemania III.
