In the world of cafes there are many ways to be excited about coffee. Some of those ways can alienate a customer instead of welcoming them into this magical world of sensory experiences. Today we are re-airing an episode with someone who exemplifies the kind of excitement we need more of in coffee. The kind that wants to share the love and joy of coffee in an approachable and sincerely caring way. Emi Fukahori is the 2015 Swiss Barista Champion as well as the 2018 World Brewers Cup champion. Emi Fukahori and Mathieu Theis founded MAME Coffee in Zurich, Switzerland in 2016. The couple met at a coffee tasting in 2013 and became fascinated by the world of specialty coffee. They quit their corporate office jobs to start MAME, which means "beans" in Japanese, to promote specialty coffee and its flavors and terroirsShe and partner Mathieu. They serve excellent and refined coffees across a spectrum of flavors with a focus of welcome, care, warmth, and excitement to share coffee with others. In this encore episode from 5 years back we explore Emi's professional evolution, winning Brewers Cup routine, founding and growing Mame, and the philosophy of care and focus on others that guides how and what they serve. The lessons and ideas Emi shares are exactly the kind of things we should all strive for in our shops. Whether you are a champion matters not, what matters is championing the customers coffee experience. Enjoy! Somna on The DJ Sessions On Location Sessions at ADE 2023 10/19/23 About Somna - In an ever-expanding global electronic music scene with new artists appearing every day, it takes nothing short of raw talent to stand out. As one of Canada's leading Trance artists, Somna took the #45 spot in the DJTOP100 (TrancePodium 2019) making him the highest Canadian within the top 100. His music can be found on the biggest trance labels in the world including Armada Music, Enhanced Music, Coldharbour Recordings, Garuda Music, Future Sound Of Egypt, AVA Recordings, Black Hole Recordings and Perfecto. One of few trance artists bypassing 200,000 monthly listeners on Spotify, Somna's music regularly finds itself on the playlists of Armin Van Buuren, Above & Beyond, Markus Schulz, Ferry Corsten, Gareth Emery, Cosmic Gate and more. Reaching beyond his talents of songwriting, Somna is also a highly sought-after remixer, having remixed for the likes of Markus Schulz, BT, Paul Oakenfold, Andy Moor, Menno de Jong and Lange. As a performing artist, Somna fuses together traditional mixing with current technologies in a way that creates an atmosphere for fans into a journey of what trance is truly about. His experiences with prior aliases over the years has led to performances at Global Gathering, Creamfields, Coloursfest, Eden (Ibiza), The Arches (Scotland), LoveFest (USA), and shows across Canada, UK, USA, Japan, Spain, Australia and New Zealand. As Somna, he has taken his music to the main stage at Dreamstate in Southern California, Colosseum in Jakarta (Indonesia), Womb in Tokyo (Japan) and events in Norway, Netherlands, Switzerland, Mexico, United States, United Kingdom and Canada. Just a peek into support from the world's top trance DJs includes regular premieres on universally popular podcasts such as A State Of Trance, Group Therapy, Corsten's Countdown, Global DJ Broadcast and more. Recognition from A-list DJs include Armin Van Buuren, Above & Beyond, Ferry Corsten, Markus Schulz, Paul Van Dyk, Gareth Emery, Andy Moor, TyDi, Lange, Cosmic Gate, Paul Oakenfold, Guiseppe Ottaviani, Heatbeat, Mark Sixma and many more. The abundance of support stands as a true testament to the quality of Somna's music. As a prolific multi-genre producer and engineer, his track alongside Andy Moor “One Thing About You” featuring Amy Kirkpatrick, reached #1 on Beatport and stayed in the top 10 for three weeks. Adding to Somna's Beatport success, “One Thing About You” won the 2015 award for the most streamed trance track on Beatport. 2015 and 2016 also saw multiple Somna releases reach the top 10 on Beatport, with tracks featuring the likes of Jennifer Rene & Michele C. To mark Lange Recordings' 200th release, Somna was invited to team up with Johnny Yono and Monoverse. The result was “Hijackers”, a triple threat labor of love which reached #3 on the Beatport charts. During these years, Somna also made two label debuts (Armada Captivating and Future Sound Of Egypt Excelsior) and joined the trance elite as he had the honor of mixing a 3 disc compilation alongside Andy Moor for AVA Recordings' 10 year anniversary. Coupled by a truly rare triple play on A State Of Trance (episode #791), 2016 was fantastic year for Somna. His success carried over into 2017 as Somna showed no signs of slowing down with the Canadian hitting 140,000 monthly listeners on Spotify and a yearly collected data showing a staggering 13.4 million plus minutes streamed for his music on the #1 streaming platform. 2018 was a powerhouse year for Somna with a new single on Armada's Captivating label, hitting the landmark 1 million streams for his single “Look Back” on Spotify and debut appearances in Jakarta (Indonesia), Oslo (Norway), Zurich (Switzerland) and Amsterdam (Netherlands). Somna's 2019 started on a high with a “Progressive Pick” winner on A State Of Trance and with “Razor”, signed to Armin Van Buuren's personal label Armind Recordings. 2019 also marked a debut on Gareth Emery's Garuda Recordings with two high energy singles as well as delivering remixes for Markus Schulz and Lange. Continuing upwards, Somna teamed up with HALIENE for “Secret” to critical acclaim, receiving triple plays on A State Of Trance and an official music video. On the performance front, Somna debuted in Mexico City as well as the prestigious Dreamstate festival main stage in Southern California where he treated fans to world exclusive sneak peeks of his forthcoming artist album. Closing the year with the landmark 300th release from AVA Recordings with his collaboration with Andy Moor, Somna cemented himself in the scene as one of the most exciting trance artists to emerge this decade. 2020 saw “Beside You” – Somna's debut artist album finally released on Black Hole Recordings' Magik Muzik imprint to critical acclaim. Capturing “album of the month” in Mixmag and topping the charts in a variety of countries, Somna painted a canvas of music that impacted fans from around the world. While the unfortunate events of the pandemic caused his album tour plans (USA, UK, Indonesia, Malaysia, Japan) to get canceled, Somna took to new avenues to share his music. Finding his feet swiftly as a partner on the Twitch streaming platform, his channel has grown exponentially over 2020 with a dedicated community and fan base edging towards 10k followers. Combining his flair for humor, a catalog and production history spanning multiple genres, Somna's channel continues to innovate and connect fans to his music weekly. As the label manager, A&R and co-owner of AVA Recordings, Somna continues to make strides while playing an important role within the scene. His bi-monthly radio show entitled “Reanimate Music” broadcasts every first and third Wednesday on Digitally Imported (di.fm), the #1 online dance radio station in the world. With a promising outlook on 2021, Somna continues his artistic journey with a steady stream of music on the scene's best labels as well as reigniting his tour schedule with stops around the world. Diana Markaki is the founder of The Boardroom, the first private members club for women executives who aspire to become board members. Diana is originally from Greece (Athens) and began her professional life as a corporate lawyer working in New York and London. After a number of years she decided to transition into business and secured her first board appointment at the age of 34. Diana actually came up with the idea for The Boardroom during her executive MBA studies at Harvard University which was the catalyst for Diana wanting to know more about how she and other women could become successful board members. Even with all of Diana's success, sacrifice and professional credentials she appreciated the need for more effort to assist women internationally to make sure they had access and opportunity to senior level appointments. Diana acknowledges the privileges that she has personally experienced but this has only strengthened her desire to create a social mobility pathway for others to accelerate their professional careers and influence. The Boardroom is only 2 years old and was born from a LinkedIn post in January 2021 after Diana had lost her father during the Pandemic. After a few days Diana started to receive hundreds of messages from other women supporting her idea and passion. She created a team of founding members who focused on working with large corporations (with the power, influence and finances) to create change, from her base in Zurich Switzerland. She describes The Boardroom as a boot strapped mission driven start up. She invested her own family money into the creation of The Boardroom which now works with over 100 large organisations across Europe from bases in 6 countries expanding to 12 countries in the new year, each with it's own private Club House. Diana explains about the European Directives in place that focus on assisting the number of women being represented on Boards of listed companies, however she also explains how regulation can actually be counter productive and so her focus remains on the social perspective as opposed to the simple legal requirement for gender equality. Merit is non-negotiable and The Boardroom gathers momentum in re-writing the rules one woman at a time www.the-boardroom.chHeidrick and Struggles is proudly supporting The Boardroom in London and Europe as we are passionate about building bridges and true collaboration for the benefit of all. www.heidrick.com Watch & Subscribe:

This was my foray into the world of GM's international business. Over the five years spent in Zurich and Frankfurt, I covered three areas: introducing lean productiont principles to GMIO plants within Europe and beyond; developing a streamlined tracking process for new vehicle development; and leading the development team for a brand new Opel vehicle in partnership with Suzuki Motor Company. This episode describes the working environment inside GMIO operations and players that I came across. Working with and for people with tremendous talent and management capability, getting involved in game changing projets, and having opportunities to travel to markets worldwide. The assignment in Zurich with GMIO turned out to be much more global that I had imagined going into the job. Again, it was a career enhancing and professionally very fulfilled phase in my time with GM. Already having had the Germany experience behind them, my family was crusing in Switzerland, enjoying every monent of their stay.

Thinking back, Eisenach was a whirlwind tour. And, now a time to move on to the next. Fortunately, an opportunity opened up to take up a new position at GM's international headquarters in Zurich, Switzerland. This time, I had no trouble convincing my family to move with me to another European location for the next 3 to 4 years. They thrived in Germany, and definitely wanted to stay longer. Ai chan had to go back to Michigan to enter a college, but Melanie, Shingo, Chieko and I moved on to this beautiful country. This episode basically covers our family's transition to the new country, and mine to the new assignment. Thank you for listening.

Somna on Location Sessions at ADE presented by The DJ Sessions 10/19/22 About Somna - In an ever-expanding global electronic music scene with new artists appearing every day, it takes nothing short of raw talent to stand out. Reaching beyond his talents of songwriting, Somna is also a highly sought-after remixer, having remixed for the likes of Markus Schulz, BT, Paul Oakenfold, Andy Moor, Menno de Jong and Lange As a performing artist, Somna fuses together traditional mixing with current technologies in a way that creates an atmosphere for fans into a journey of what trance is truly about. While the unfortunate events of the pandemic caused his album tour plans (USA, UK, Indonesia, Malaysia, Japan) to get cancelled, Somna took to new avenues to share his music. In this episode, Margarita Chli, Swiss National Science Professor in Computer Vision for Robotics at ETH Zurich, Switzerland, spoke to Rudolf Falat, founder of the Voice of FinTech podcast, about improving drone vision and building autonomous drones and their use cases in Insurance.Specifically, here is what they covered: How did Margarita become a professor at ETH in Zurich in drones and robots' vision? See Margarita's profile at ETH website. Many people talk about self-driving cars, but less attention is paid to autonomous drones. What are the use cases for intelligent drones that can fly by themselves, and what are their challenges vs. self-driving cars? The critical focus of Margarita's research is improving the vision of drones and robots. So what technology are we talking about? How does it compare to mainstream hobby drones like DJI? Many people are concerned with safety and privacy when it comes to drones. Yet, Margarita is helping drones to see even better! So, how would Margarita alleviate these concerns? Insurance companies in many countries have already eliminated many claims adjustor roles – they use humans to survey the damage, but data is sent to HQ for assessment and processing. With autonomous drones, can these roles be replaced too? For example, the staff in HQ can use drones for a survey and then use the pictures or videos for the assessment? What are the differences between using drones for surveying damage indoors (say, a building near collapse) and a substantial flooded area? Do you need a different drone size? Undoubtedly, but what about its navigation abilities? What about urban use (e.g., for assessing car accidents) – would you be comfortable using autonomous drones there How does one deal with challenges like battery life or accidents when the drone works independently?
