    The Sweet Slowdown of Summer???

It's just me this week with a short episode talking about what we (or at least what I) expect of summer and how drastically different it looks by the end of the sunny season. This episode came to me on our family vacation.  We and our very close friends have rented 2 RVs and driven from La to TX, down to the Mexico boarder,  NM, and are now headed back. It's been a whirlwind adventure and by this point (with a day and a half left) I'm just about spent. We all are! It's been hilarious, tense, incredibly beautiful, and crazy fun. However, and to be perfectly honest, I struggle figuring what day it is (forget even asking me the date) and I have no idea which time zone we're in.  And, as I type and post this episode (because I finally have 2 bars of service,) we are bumping down one of the few no so great Texas roads (at least, I think we're back in Tx now...) and I'm listening to the constant walkie talkie radioing between Smith (my husband) and A-A-ron (My friends husband.) One last funny insight... I love this description of our 2 families. There are 10 of us. 2 RVs. 4 Adults.6 Kids. (5 boys + 1 baby girl)And half of the kids are on the spectrum and the others like pushing all buttons and boundries. We are one Motley Crew! We are interesting. Funny as all get out. And, the national park rangers may not be our biggest fans. I hope you enjoy this episode. Don't forget to connect with me on Insta @amykathleen.ak or with The Collective @inside.thecollective. Welcome back for Season 2! I'm so glad you're here!I was connected with Meredith through LinkedIn, and one part of her profile caught my attention... "winecast."   I stopped whatever productive thing I was doing at the moment and went to check it out.  Her podcast, MAJOR CRUSH, became my favorite listen as I cooked dinner each night during quarantine.  Each new episode took me on a little wine journey with my "new friends," Meredith & Lou" (her co-host.)   When I learned more about her passion for wine and wellness, I took a leap of faith and asked her to be a guest on my podcast.   She was all for it and through it all she, Lou, and their producer, Sonja, became great friends.  What a cool connection that lead to so many collaborations and a LOT of fun! In this episode,  we talk about all things wine, her company (decantU,) the “winecast," and how she connects wine and whole wellness with an emphasis on the social connection it brings. Meredith makes wine approachable and even shares how we can navigate a great local wine shop, like Cuban (listen to the bonus episode,) to discover something new.CLICK HERE to get 20% OFF the AK Collection from the MAJOR CRUSH wine club, Crush Collection! Visit our new website insidethecollective.com And you can follow me on insta here--> @amykathleen.akThank you for your continued support! I would say Sarah and I laughed more than we talked, but I re-listened!… and we definitely talked about a lot! We clearly just had a great time doing it!In this episode, you’ll learn the importance of “disrupting yourself,” how successful people are usually just the most stubborn, and what you can control in the midst of all this chaos. And my biggest takeaway?… “We see other people’s end points, and we think that’s what it’s like on day one.” How many times do I do this? Way too many. Is it just me or can you relate to that statement too? We also talked about how trial and error is a fantastic tool. Sarah mentioned, “now is the best time for non-fatal trial and error.” Such an interesting conversation! And how about this?… When unbelief hits (You know. That battle between our ears,) maybe that’s the time to step into what it is God has called you to do. What an incredible way to end this first season! Truly incredible. Please stay tuned at the end for a special message from me. It’s not lost on me that we are ending in November - in a season of gratitude and gratefulness. Episode 21: Demystifying Sales Through Serving with Sarah Sloyan: Part 1Do you want the backstory?… Of course you do. It’s fun! Several months ago at the beginning of the summer, right as I was about to launch the podcast (which was a complete fog by the way,) I heard Sarah on another podcast. I loved everything she had to say. She blew me away! Without thinking, I found her on LinkedIn. I was in the middle of creating an account of my own (also in a fog- not knowing much of anything about the networking site,) and I just had the audacity to directly message her about the podcast and ask if she’d consider being a guest. I honestly don’t even remember paying attention to her profile.Months later, after a few calls and several emails, (and more by sheer luck than by design) I managed to get myself vetted through the Ramsey Solutions Corporation and schedule a LIVE interview with her in Nashville! How cool is that?? I was thrilled as I watched it come together, but it wasn’t until a few people looked at me in shock and asked, “How on earth did you pull that off???”My response, “I asked. What would it hurt if she said ‘no’?” Now, this episode is about sales, and women, and all the ways we get in our own heads. But I want you to think about something… What is lying just outside your reach that could be possible if you just asked? This week we are taking back to a conversation like our first episode. Just a great and fun conversation with a sweet friend. Do you have a friend who fills your soul in a way that after talking with them you feel like your tank is full again?... I really hope so. That’s exactly how Lea May makes me feel. We don’t get the opportunity to visit like this often, but I’m so happy that we were able to include you this time. Lea is a beacon. We can all learn from the way she handles life as a mom, wife, entrepreneur, influencer, community leader, and attorney. She handles life with the utmost level of grace. Isn’t it fun to have friends who inspire you?... Who make you want to be better... And not the kind that stems from the comparison trap that’s so easy to fall in to. The kind of better that comes from a place of admiration and wonder of “what if I chose to look at life differently? I wonder if I could find that same happiness and peace.” I hope you do. And if you don’t, I hope you’ll start seeking them out. Those relationships aren’t just fun... they are life giving. Life gifted me this friend about a year ago, and I’m soooo glad it did. I always leave our conversations feeling enlightened and thankful that I lucked out to know her. You know you have a good friend when you can have really honest conversations. Like when I told her, “I really just don’t care for Christian music.” You might not think that’s a big deal. Everyone has their own tastes. But you see… Kirstie is a recording artist, and a pastor (among SO many other things) AND she just released a faith based album. My comment would have clearly offended anyone else in her shoes. But not Kirstie. She just looked at me and said, “I get it.” In a world where so many tend to have close-minded thoughts and ideas, she doesn’t. She has a gift to see the bigger picture of what’s going on, and she also has an absolutely beautiful voice to help spread that message.I feel honored to be able to have her on to highlight and talk about her new single, Silence. I say I want this podcast to be open, and honest, and real. I say I want to help women connect. What I didn’t realize is how personal I would have to be to help make all this happen. I am starting a journey to figure out this world of self-care. Learning to calm our minds, love our bodies, and nurture our souls. Y’all, so much of this is foreign to me. Weird even. But I know there’s something to it. If you listen today and you can relate to any of this, I hope you’ll join me so we can figure it all out together. I sometimes forget about the impact small actions can have on those around me. Good or bad, they are noticed more often than not. What if we focused on the good? Small efforts for others where we authentically think about how we could make them feel seen and heard. Imagine what could come from that… A huge, positive, pay-it-forward, ripple effect for so many others! Well, that’s the heart of my new friend, Melissa, and her business, Hosting What Matters. Listen to hear how this idea… this spark inside her has turned into such an interesting blog, business, and potential grand opportunity… that she almost missed out on by throwing in the flag. Yikes!! Do you know what “I.D.D.” stands for? Well I thought I did, but when I googled it to make sure, I was shocked. I’m ashamed and a little embarrassed to say that I unknowingly associated it with hearing impairment for years now. I didn’t realize it described my own son. It stands for Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities. Well… there you go. I guess that’s our label. But what’s in a label? I’ve watched Luke and so many other children defy labels their whole lives. It’s not that I believe labels are bad. I believe they help the larger community around us wrap their heads around a world that’s not easy to understand. A world where every child is as different as a snowflake or a finger print. But from this mama’s perspective… I don’t get hung up on lables. I believe our job, as out-of-the-box parents, is to focus on our babies (yes, they are still babies to me no matter the age.) Our job is to love them, and help them in every way, and watch as they forge their own journey which typically shows just how gifted and capable they are. Our guest today is Demetrice Smith. She is another example of a child who defied the odds and the labels. Listen to her journey. It’s chilling and wonderful. And then after listening, see if you could ever imagine someone giving this highly educated, powerful, driven, competent, brave and courageous woman the label of “mentally retarded.” To learn more about Demetrice and her program, please visit: https://www.thepottershouse.org/idd/For the TPH Connect App: https://www.tdjakes.org/app/To learn more about T.D. I can’t make this up! 2020 may have a bad wrap, but I am loving all the new people I’ve had the chance to get to know. And Roxanne is at the top of the list! Life and its curve balls... Sometimes you need to dodge them, and sometimes they’re just what you needed. My very first college experience threw me a huge curve ball that didn’t make for the best start. But then entered Kim. If life hadn’t thrown that curve ball, we probably wouldn’t have met. And well… I can’t even imagine that. Kim is my person. She’s also my sounding board and my filter too. Ha! We all need one… especially me. Kim and I were talking one day, and I realized our conversation should be on the podcast. I figured you could relate to it. Sometimes, we all get locked into our way of looking at a situation, and maybe it’s a frustrating one. But if you take a step back, you may realize something you hadn’t before. Or maybe, it’s just nice because you realize you’re not the only one feeling that way. If you need some happy in your life, or some quick-witted humor, you can follow Kim on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/kimberly.w.stgermainAnd if you want help planning your next post-Covid getaway, contact her at https://www.facebook.com/castlesandcruisestravel

Google is great for MANY things, but figuring out your kid?…. not so much. Today we talk to Dr. Ray. If I could bottle up her wisdom and the heart she has for helping our babies, I seriously think we could cure autism... and any other disorder you want to throw this way for that matter. Today is the beginning of many discussions we will have with Dr. Ray. That is… if I can continue to work my way on to her crazy full calendar! Good thing I’m so lovingly persistent.***More information on the Foundations of Parenting Conference COMING SOON!See if I’m someone you want to hang out with on Instagram @amykathleen.akhttps://www.instagram.com/amykathleen.ak/And please join us on Facebook to be a part of the conversation where we are building an online community around you! https://www.facebook.com/groups/277309686634356
