As a leader and a business owner, reputation is your lifeblood. Trust is the social currency of today's digital-first world, and it's in short supply! Which is good news if you're a credible mission-driven entrepreneur or professional, someone who has the runs on the board and who is seen, not as someone with something to sell, but as someone with something to teach. But you need to be intentional about it! As we talk about here often on the podcast, there are many variables involved in building a genuine thought leader brand in the marketplace. Let's be clear: People don't want to be sold something—they want to buy something. And the best way to get someone to seek out the opportunity to buy from you is to position yourself as the unquestionable authority in your space—someone they would be lucky to have a chance to do business with. This is what PR agency owner RUSTY SHELTON calls the authority advantage! Rusty is a Senior Marketing Strategist at Forbes Books, bestselling author and successful entrepreneur. He's the founder and chairman of Zilker Media, an award-winning agency based in Austin, Texas that builds people-driven brands.  As a speaker, Rusty uses humour and targeted examples to challenge assumptions about thought leadership, showing leaders how to build authentic personal brands focused on impact, not ego. He has written three books and spoken around the world to a variety of audiences, from YPO to Harvard Medical to SXSW Interactive. Rusty's newest book, The Authority Advantage: Building Thought Leadership Focused on Impact, Not Ego (ForbesBooks, 2023), which is co-authored with Adam Witty and features a foreword from David Meerman Scott, demonstrates how leaders can make an impact with their personal brand and build trust in an increasingly skeptical world.

“To be successful and happy, you don't have to be big. Business owners think bigger is better. The only way that you are a success is if you keep growing.”   Adam Witty is a world-renowned entrepreneur, author, publisher, and speaker, who has helped numerous entrepreneurs and businesses grow for the benefit of mankind. He stands firmly on the belief that when building a business, you have to define what is happiness. A business should not only provide a good income for yourself and your employees, but it should also provide products and services that add value to the world.    The reality of entrepreneurship is that you should have passion and belief in energy for what you do—what your business does. Your motivation should be to help poor people and get your product or service in the hands of more people. Scaling business growth should not be based on money. True entrepreneurs are motivated by their mission. Reasons for entry vs reasons to stay. Hit me up on IG! @russellbrunson Text Me! 208-231-3797 Join my newsletter at marketingsecrets.com ClubHouseWithRussell.com ---Transcript--- What's up everybody, this is Russell Brunson. Welcome back to the Marketing Secrets podcast. Today I want to share with you guys a little... It's 20 words, maybe 30 words, inside of a secret fax I got from Dan Kennedy. While he has only recently acquired his company and so I've been going through the archives, and there's this fax he sent to the old owners and I'm not allowed to share the whole thing because literally on the front page it says... Let me see what says, it says, "Confidential. Prepared for internal use only." Anyway. But there's this one little paragraph that is so cool and probably going to change some of your guys' lives forever. I don't want you to miss it. We're going to keep things on, come back, I'm going to tell you what it is. I'm going to explain it. And hopefully this is a little marketing secret you guys can use. Okay. Inside of this fax, so this is actually a fax. Bill Glazer, who's my first mentor in this world. Anyway, so Bill Glazer owned Magnetic Marketing. When I was with Bill, on my sixth year of his mastermind group is when he sold it to this PE firm. The PE firm destroyed the company, ran it to the ground and then Adam Witty bought it from them. Adam Witty got this fax from Dan. It was basically, "This is what is wrong with the business. This is how they killed it. Here's how to fix it. Here's what it was supposed to be. Here's the..." It's almost Dan's business plan for business, which is really cool. And so then Adam ran it for three years and then we bought it from Adam. I think there's so much like gold in here. I wish I could do a whole event just on, "Oh, here's a fax that Dan sent showing how to fix his own business from the PE firms who ran it into the ground." Oh, there's so many cool things. But okay, I can't give you it all because I'll get in trouble, but there's a nugget. I'm going to go on a limb for you guys because this nugget is so cool. And I want you just to understand it and to be able to use it. And it's interesting because I saw it last week at our over Inner Circle meetings and I saw the practical application of this again. Okay, you guys ready for this? Get out a pad of paper and a pencil if you want to go deep. In this section he titles the sections, "Reasons for entry versus reasons to stay." And then underneath that it says, "The acquisition versus attachment." We're talking about reasons for entries, how do you get people into your company, into your community, into your world, so that's acquisition. Versus reasons to stay, and that's attachment. So how do you get somebody into your community and then what gets them to actually stay in your community? Those are two different things. And then the next sentence says, "Not the same, not even close." Because a lot of times people think, "Oh yeah, you acquire a customer. They stay because they want to and keep buying your stuff." It's like, no, no, no, no. Acquisition and attachment are two different things. Then what Dan said here is the last sentence I'm going to read to you from the fax. He said, "What brings them in the door initially is almost never what keeps them inside over time." Let me say it one more time. "What brings them in the door initially is almost never what keeps them inside over time." And so for example, most of you guys who are listening to this, you came in based on some front end something, some kind of acquisition. It could have been a lot of things. It might have been one of my free books. It could have been, you heard me on someone's podcast. It could have been, you saw me in an event or you saw a YouTube video. Or there's something that got you and peaked your interest and it acquired you, got you into my world. Acquired you as a customer. Now, if you look... In fact, so the very first time I got this is when we first launched my Inner Circle, as my high ticket at the time was 25 grand that we signed up, I don't know, a dozen or so people. And it was interesting because people came to me, they joined the Inner Circle because they wanted to get closer to me. They all told me like, "Yeah, I joined because I wanted to learn from you." But then it was interesting because I watched these people and they stayed year, after year, after year. In fact, we renamed our Inner Circle, we call it Inner Circle For Life because it's like, we want people to come in to stay there for life. They're not allowed to leave after they come in. They can obviously, but that's concepts of Inner Circle For Life. And so they come in, they stay year, after year, after year. And what's interesting is I noticed that, again, they came because they want to get to know me, but then they stayed for something different. They stayed for the community. They stayed for the other people. They stayed for the group, they stayed for the... They didn't stay for me. If it was just Russell and it was me coming and speaking at them once a year, twice a year for the meetings, they wouldn't have stayed long-term. They stayed because of the community. And so what brings them in the door initially is almost never what keeps them inside over time. And it was interesting because we relaunched the Inner Circle, I talked about this in the last couple of podcast episodes. But what was interesting is initially, especially in the... We had two levels now, the Category Kings. And most of the Category Kings, all but two I think, or maybe three, had been in my Inner Circle before. And so they knew what was happening. But for the Inner Circle For Life program, there was almost 100 people who were brand new. Again, there are some people that had been there before, but for the most part they're all new people. And they came, they joined because they wanted to be in Russell Brunson's Inner Circle. They came because they wanted to get to know me. They came because they wanted learn funnels from Russell. So they came in, but then we facilitated this group and the whole goal of me facilitating the group was not for Russell to be on stage talking, the goal was to get them in this room. It's the room where it happens, the room where the magic happens. The room where these conversations are happening at a higher level. And I told them, initially I was like, "If you guys come here to learn from me, you can learn from me. Go read my books, all the stuff's in there. You don't need to pay me this amount of money to learn from me." I'm like, "Well, the power in this room is not me. It's like I said, I'm going to stand on stage and my goal is to stimulate conversation, and then to send it back to you guys in these rooms to have these conversations amongst each other." That's the whole thing. Even though that we acquire them, the reason for entry, what brought them in the door initially was because they wanted to be in Russell's Inner Circle and be around Russell. But the reasons they stay is to create attachment, and it's what keeps them inside over time is the relationships, the people, the community. And it's just fascinating. If you look at that from... Zooming out, you start looking at that, it's like, "Oh my gosh, this is the power." So many times we think that all the weight is on our own shoulders to run these businesses long-term, especially information businesses, but they're not. It's the community. And so if you're not building a community, if you're not doing things correctly, then that becomes the problem. Then it's always on you, always on you. It's just this hard thing. Why do people keep coming to Funnel Hacking Live? The first time they come to Funnel Hacking Live because they want to learn what's the funnel. If you look at the copy on the page, usually the headline I replicate from theme to theme to theme, is always something tied to, "You want to funnel away, but you don't know which funnel it's going to be. Come to Funnel Hacking Live, I want to show you which funnel that is." That's the acquisition, it gets people and it's like, "I keep hearing Russell talk about funnels. I just don't know which funnel's for me." So they come for that feel, what funnel it is when they come in the room and they have a feeling. They get to know other people, they become part of a community. They feel the energy. All those intangibles is why they come back. Why people come year, after year, after year. It's why most every other events happening in my industry is getting smaller and smaller and smaller every year, and ours gets bigger and bigger and bigger. Because we acquire people. We bring them in the door initially with the thing that they want. And then we create attachment inside the community with the thing that's going to keep them over time. Coming here hearing Russell talk about the next new funnel is not going to keep them over time, that's boring. Eventually they're going to leave. But if you build the reasons for them to stay strong enough, they'll stay and they'll keep coming over and over and over again. The first time I ever saw this in action was interesting. The very first time I went to Dan Kennedy's seminar, and I had been studying him, been learning about him. And for me it was like going to see the guru on the mountain. I was so excited to go and journey that direction and to meet him and to see him and all that kind of stuff. And I remember the time I saw him, he had just gotten in a... Dan, if you know anything about him, he has horses and he races horses and stuff, and he got injured or something. I remember they told us, he's like... At first they thought he wasn't going to come. And he did come, but he's in a wheelchair. And I remember when he came out, they wheeled him out and it was just silence in the room. And no one said a word. And everyone stood up and he came in and I was just like, "This is the coolest thing in the world." And I remember that feeling of him getting wheeled in here and everyone standing and like, the guru has showed up. I was so excited and that's why I came. And then I remember what he said that was interesting is, he asked the audience, he's like, "Who here has been following me for more than a year?" Everyone's hand goes up. "And more than five years? More than 10? More than 15? More than 20? More than 25? More than 30, more than 30?" And he went all the way back 30 or 40 years, I can't remember what it was. And there were still two dozen people standing with their hands raised of this entire room, who've been following him for 30 or 40 years. And I remember he said, he kind laughed and he's like, "You guys, I haven't had anything new to say since the seventies," or something like that. And he's like, "So why do you keep coming back?" And that's when he started talking about the reasons why they stay. The attractive character, the stories, the people, the community. These are the reasons why people stay. And so if you're just building a company on acquisition where you're bringing people in, the problem with that is you have this company that burns and churns where you're always... And I had, my very first supplement company was a burn and churn. People would come in, we had a really good funnel based on media. We'd spend $120 and make 180 back, and it was a good business. We were able to crank things through. But the supplement didn't get people to stick. They didn't keep coming back and reordering and building all these kind of things, they didn't stay. And so it was always this burn and churn business, and we turned off ads, the business stopped. And that was the issue and the problem behind it. And so that's true for a lot of people's businesses. If you're in a transactional business, all you're doing is acquisition. And if you're in acquisition, profitably you're okay. But if you want to scale your company and grow it, where each person goes from being worth, whatever, 180 bucks to four or 5,000, it's this mindset shift to, "Hey, we acquire them one way and then we create attachment, a reason for them to stay. Something that keeps them inside over time, a different way." And so hopefully this gets the thoughts in your head spinning, especially if you've got a retention problem, especially if you're losing people. Especially if you know customers by once from you and you never hear them again. This is the reason, you're good at the entry but you're not good at the reasons for them to stay. And so you, together as your team or whoever's you're working with, think through that. Ask some questions, "Why do people stay with us? What's the reasons? Have we built a culture?" If you need to go deeper on that, go back to Expert Secrets. I have three or four chapters talking about building mass movements and what gets people to stay over time, like identity and all the things. Anyway, there's a bunch of stuff that you can learn from there. But there you go, you guys. So Dan Kennedy, he's brilliant. There's a fax. I think that's, what, 30 words I gave you, but hopefully it's a needle mover. All right, that's it. You guys, appreciate you. Thanks for listening. Don't forget, the reason for entry is different than the reason they stay. And then as Dan said, "They're not the same, they're not even close." Hope it helps you guys. Thanks so much for everything, and I will talk to you soon.

How to Create a Competition Free Zone with Kevin Appleby & Graham Arrowsmith The idea for this discussion on creating a competition free zone comes from the Dan Kennedy and Lee Milteer book "Renegade Millionaire - 7 Secrets to Extreme Wealth, Autonomy, and Entrepreneurial Success". The book contains a foreword by one of our previous podcast guests, Adam Witty. Here's what the book looks like:   What Question Always Gets Asked of You By Consultants? "Tell me about your competition". Or "Who is your most formidable competitor?" Ever been asked a question like that? If so, your answer was probably, the outfit that is undercutting you. Maybe it was those guys outspending you, or who were bigger than you. Dan Kennedy tells us that your most formidable competitor is YOU! The other options are partly right of course. Ask yourself will they put you under water? If not, you may already be moving towards the fire rather than running away from it. Acknowledge the competitors in your space. Then create behaviour differences to set you on a path to being a renegade millionaire. Who is Your Most Formidable Competitor? http://thenext100days.org/wp-content/uploads/2021/10/Who-is-yourr-most-formidable-competitor.mp4 The 8 Strategies Stand Out What can you do that will make your business stand out from others? Are you willing to say things that others are afraid of saying? Like Colin Kaepernick who truly divided people when he disrespected his own country by kneeling through the national anthem. Stuff him I say, but others might see a role model. Would you take the risk with your business by being an advocate of INSULATE BRITAIN? Talk about setting teeth on edge. Kevin says he has more time for the entrepreneurs solving problems rather than [Graham's edit] woolly liberals spewing their bilge. Raise Your Status Write a book. We've recorded several podcasts on being an authority - including Adam Witty from Advantage Forbes. http://thenext100days.org/wp-content/uploads/2021/10/Authority-and-being-an-Author.mp4 As Kevin says this is the route to being a thought leader. Kevin points out that we have been invited to other podcasts, and we've spoken on 300 or so podcasts. Show Up Alone Show up alone in everything you do and every way you can. So, where can you show up alone so you are the only voice where you potential customers are hanging out? http://thenext100days.org/wp-content/uploads/2021/10/Show-Up-Alone-Strategy.mp4   Strong Pre-Determination This means when someone turns up at your door, they are pre-sold. Here's a story. http://thenext100days.org/wp-content/uploads/2021/10/Strong-Pre-Determination.mp4   Exploit Time Invested The time you spend alone with your prospect matters a great deal. Kevin agrees. As he says, the real thing you are solving is the customers problem. The more time you spend discussing the specifics the client is facing, the greater the chances of you'll get the sale. http://thenext100days.org/wp-content/uploads/2021/10/Exploit-Time-Invested.mp4 Kevin also says you look at finding about them versus talking about you. So listen to what they tell you. Work in a Sales Winning Environment Where can you talk to prospects to get more sales? http://thenext100days.org/wp-content/uploads/2021/10/Sales-Conducive-Environments.mp4 Use Overwhelming Force to Acquire Customers As Dan Kennedy said in his book: "winning is rarely done gently". This strategy is all about being dominant in a market. http://thenext100days.org/wp-content/uploads/2021/10/Use-Overwhelming-Force-to-Acquire-Clients.mp4   Create Irresistible Offers Graham observes that many clients don't have an IRRESISTIBLE OFFER. Big mistake. http://thenext100days.org/wp-content/uploads/2021/10/Create-an-Irresistible-Offer.mp4   Now, go be a Renegade Millionaire! After publishing her book, Carla Moore quit her job as an executive at HBO and launched her own successful business consultancy. Charlie Epstein wrote “Paychecks for Life” and soon earned the moniker, “The Betty Crocker of 401 (K) Advisors.” Shelly Henderson used her book to promote her and her husband’s Charlotte, North Carolina real estate firm. It worked. What Carla, Charlie, and Shelly have in common is that they are three of the well over 1,300 authors who Adam Witty and his companies have helped leverage their influence and authority by publishing books. Adam is the founder and CEO of Advantage Media Group, which now supports authors in business, finance, medicine, and other professions in more than 40 U.S. states and 13 countries. Host and award-winning journalist Dean Rotbart, who first interviewed Adam in February 2018, notes that unlike conventional publishers, Adam’s core product is not ink on paper, or even digital ink, but raw, impactful influence. 18. Platform Strategy: Building Skyscrapers on Land We Own

Monetization Nation Podcast

Imagine being a real estate developer and building a skyscraper on land someone else owns, and that the landowner has the right to change the price, the rules, and the terms of the land use at any time. That's insanity. Why would any sane developer invest so much time and money building that skyscraper when the landowner will eventually change the terms and destroy the investment? Yet, that's what nearly always happens when we build our businesses to be dependent on digital platforms other people own. In this episode, I'm going to share a story of how Harry's, the men's grooming company, built an email list with more than 100,000 subscribers in a week prior to their launch. They did this as part of their strategy to build their skyscraper on land they own, along with other great stories and secrets about platform strategy. How Harry's Built a 100K Email List in a Week Jeff Raider & Andy Katz-Mayfield, co-founders of Harry's, a men's grooming company, wanted to make a splash when their website launched. That's why they began a strong campaign to grow their email list before they even had much information about their new company out.  Harry's used a strong referral campaign to grow their email list. Instead of launching their company's website, they had a simple two funnel. The landing page invited the visitor to sign up for their emails with the words “Be the first to know” above the box and “step inside” instead of the usual “confirm” or “submit” button. These word choices created a sense of urgency and intrigue.  Once the visitor signed up to receive emails, they were brought to the second page of the website, which was all about their referral program. This page contained a unique URL that the visitor could share with their friends and family. Then it had a tracker to show many people you had shared with. Harry's gamified the referral process by setting up nice prizes for how many referrals a visitor made.  Referring 5 friends earned you a free shaving cream.  Referring 10 friends earned you a free razor.  Referring 25 friends earned you a free premium razor.  Referring 50 friends earned you free shaving for a year.  These incremental prizes were a great method for convincing visitors to share their referral codes with their friends and family. Plus, it built excitement over the company finally opening its doors.  This campaign led to Harry's receiving 100,000 email sign-ups in just one week. Raider shared that 77% of the collected emails were referrals (Source: Viral Loops). This massive email list allowed Harry's to ensure that when they finally opened, they weren't just making their opening to crickets. They had an engaged and excited audience for when their products were finally available, which helped them become highly successful.  Harry's successfully built their skyscraper on land they owned, their email list, instead of on land someone else owned, such as shelf space at big box stores. They now own the relationships and can contact their customers at any time, something that would be nearly impossible to do with a big-box distribution strategy. Platforms Can Give and Platforms Can Take Years ago I worked as the Chief Revenue Officer for a company called Family Link. Family Link had created a Facebook app called We're Related that allowed users to connect with family members and show those connections on Facebook. During my first 12 months with the company, the app was wildly successful and we were able to add $5 million in revenue. The app became the 4th most popular on Facebook and had 90 million installs.  Facebook saw how popular our app was and decided to create much of that functionality into the core Facebook offering. And not only that, they removed our app from the user's main profile pages who had already installed it. Essentially, Facebook decided to compete and then made it extremely difficult for us to compete. It was kind of like the landowner changing the terms of the deal after we had built the skyscraper, and it was perfectly legal because our app was built on their platform. We had built a metaphorical skyscraper on land they owned, and they could do just about anything they wanted. It is unwise to build businesses under these types of circumstances where we are not the masters of our own destinies. Facebook isn't the only platform that does this. As another example, Amazon encourages third-party vendors to sell on their platform. However, in many cases when they see a highly profitable product, they create their own version of the same product and compete.  "Facebook and other social media platforms seem like a shortcut because they make it appear easy to reach new people. But the trade-off is that you're a sharecropper. It's not your land. You don't have permission to contact people; they do. You don't own an asset; they do." - Seth Godin, Best-Selling Marketing Author Building a List We Own This doesn't mean using social media sites is a bad idea. The lesson I learned from the Facebook experience was the importance of building our own lists. An email list full of customers and potential customers that have already shown interest in our products or services is one of the most valuable assets a business can own.  Joe Pulizzi, the founder of Content Marketing Institute, explained it perfectly when he said: “An email list is critical because you can't build your content on rented land. So many brands and companies build their audiences on Facebook and Google+, which is fine, but we don't own those names – Facebook and Google do. If we are thinking like real media companies, the asset is in the audience.” That quote was obviously from back when Google+ was a viable platform, but it illustrates that building our businesses to be reliant on other platforms can also go out of business, and we lose all of the investment we put into building our presence on that platform. Does this mean we should avoid using social media platforms or other company's websites? Of course not. They are still a great source for growing our reach. The point I'm trying to make here is that the end goal of our platform strategy must land outside of these platforms. We need to control the relationships and communication we have with our customers and potential customers. That means we're building our email lists, gathering phone numbers and mailing addresses, and doing anything that will allow us to contact people off of the platform we found them on.  “The most effective tactic is the use of email marketing to drive a real return. The reason it is effective is that people may engage and share on social, but they will buy from a sequence of emails that educate first and sell second.” - Jeff Bullas, Social Media Marketing Strategist LivingSocial Collects the Email of Every Website Visitor Here's another example: LivingSocial is a coupon company that recognizes the importance of capturing the contact information of prospective customers. They recognize that consumers who love coupons are usually willing to give up their contact information in exchange for coupons. That's why LivingSocial requires the email address of any of their website visitors.  That's right. Every single visitor, if they want to see what coupons LivingSocial has to offer, must exchange their contact information to see the company's website. This is an aggressive campaign that wouldn't work for all audiences. After all, most visitors need to experience some value before they're willing to give up their email addresses. LivingSocial has found that it works for their unique customers though.  One of the keys to LivingSocial's success is that the emails they send have great value to their ideal customers. For example, one of the emails the company sends out is called Instant Deals. The idea behind this is to help people find a spot to eat lunch. Right when their customers are beginning to think about what they'll eat for lunch, they receive an email with instant deals that can save them money on their meal and give them ideas for where they might like to eat.  I love this example because it shows how well LivingSocial knows their customers. Both the manner in which they collect contact information and the information they send in their emails demonstrates that they know their ideal customers well.  Each business has its own unique audience with its own unique desires and preferences. We need to build our platform on that. The better we know our audience, the better we'll know what kind of email capturing will work best for them and what kind of plan we should implement. Then we'll be able to provide them with effective emails that will transition them through the buyer's journey.  Becoming an Influencer Authority occurs when someone takes the right steps to combine standout, trustworthy expertise in his or her field with the kind of high visibility you might often associate with a celebrity. When that happens, the expert's name becomes synonymous with the field he or she works in - Adam Witty and Rusty Shelton, Authors of Authority Marketing Most business leaders have the expertise, passion, and knowledge that we can share with others. When we share that expertise, passion, and knowledge on our own platforms we can often become an influencer in our niches.  We can become an influencer and thought-leader by writing a book, speaking at events, hosting a podcast, creating YouTube videos, writing blog posts, sending an email newsletter, and more. As we provide our followers with useful and engaging content, they'll want more and more from us and we'll begin to build a true relationship. One of the reasons this works so well is because we're providing value before we ask for anything in return. Once we've established our expertise and created a loyal following, we'll be able to market our products and services in a way that is authentic and credible.  Again, it's important to recognize that as we're building our followings on social media, we need to find ways to build a list of our followers we own and can contact off social media platforms. The more we can encourage our followers to visit our sites and sign up for our email lists, the stronger our foundation will be. Then we'll be building our skyscraper on land we own. Key Takeaways Here are some of the top takeaways that stood out to me from this episode:  We need to build our metaphorical skyscrapers on land we own. This means growing a huge email list, membership site, or other platforms where we own the customer contact information and permission to contact customers and potential customers directly.  Our social media efforts, when we're using someone else's platform, should focus on getting our customers to come to our platform, gathering their contact information, and gaining permission to market to them.  The asset is the audience. In other words, the lists we build will become one of the greatest assets of our companies.  We can leverage our platforms to become influencers when we share our knowledge and expertise. Becoming an influencer can give us more control over our destinies because we cannot get de-platformed. A platform then cannot block us from contacting our own followers.  Want to be a Better Digital Monetizer? Did you like today's episode? Part of a marketer's job is all about positioning. Positioning their business' brand, content, and people in front of their ideal buyers.  What about positioning your business in a place of authority above your competitors? An Entrepreneur, Speaker, Author of Authority Marketing, and the Founder & CEO of Advantage l Forbes Books, Adam Witty, educates the audience about authority marketing and how reaching a place of stature and authority in your marketplace can be manufactured.   Takeaways: Authority marketing is positioning yourself as a thought leader in your industry. Positioning is the ideas, images, and thoughts that come to mind when people think of a brand or a person. It is the opinion that is formed based on their experiences with the brand or individual. You can control the opinion a person has towards you or your brand by being proactive about how you present your brand or yourself as a thought leader. Do not be embarrassed about sharing your expertise with others. If you genuinely believe in what you do, presenting your knowledge to others will only help them in solving the problem that your product or service addresses. If you do not know where to start when creating a book, think of the ten most common questions that your buyers have, then write a chapter to answer each question. The book needs to be about solving a problem that people have. Facts and data show that when you are introduced as an author of a book, people instantly see you in a different light, as an expert, as a thought leader. The four pillars of creating an authority marketing colosseum are branding and omnipresence, content marketing, public relations and media, and speaking; the foundation is authorship. Content marketing is anything you can do to educate your ideal customer. When someone is being advertised to, their guard is up. When they are learning and being educated, their guard is down and they are more receptive to the message. Therefore, consider the tone of your content, are you selling or educating? “You can't spell authority without the word author.” - Adam Witty The more authority you have in your industry, the more your brand is placed in a category of one which means buyers will be comparing other options to you, because you have differentiated yourself from your competitors. If you do a speaking session for free, make sure it is in front of an audience of people that could do business with you. Advice from Adam Witty - “The riches are in the niches.” If your business serves a very particular segment of buyers, you are able to prioritize your marketing and your chances of success increase. Consider creating a product or service that generates recurring revenue.   Links: Email: awitty@advantageww.com LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/adamwitty/ Advantage l Forbes Books: https://advantagefamily.com/ Authority Marketing Book: https://advantagefamily.com/authority-marketing-book/ Website: http://www.adamwitty.com/   Busted Myths: To reach a place of authority in your industry or marketplace, you have to pay your dues and put in your time. - This is NOT the case. A place of stature and authority can be created by positioning yourself as a thought leading expert in your industry over your competitors.
