In this episode, we're joined by aesthetics aficionado and award-winning journalist and author, Alice Hart-Davis, for an unfiltered foray into the changing face of Tweakments – a term she coined that has since become industry standard. We journey from 1998, when Alice first ventured into aesthetics procedures, to the present. Back then, nurses were injecting collagen, and the idea of using toxins was met with horror. Fast forward to today and we chat salmon sperm injections for firming things up under the eyes, shaking up cocktails of regenerative medicine and ingredients to regrow your own fat. We muse over what the future holds for Aesthetics, share the skincare you must always use, and the treatments that have dazzled and disappointed. About Our Guest: Alice Hart-Davis is an award-winning beauty journalist and author. I have two guests on today who I am super excited to introduce to you and to each other. Nathalie Niddam and Alice Hart Davis. Both are previous guests to the Hack My Age podcast (scroll down for links to those podcast episodes). I decided to gather these powerhouses in the biohacking and beauty industry to discuss the conundrum of beauty standards, medical aesthetics and try to figure out how to navigate our feelings, emotions and desires about beauty while going through the menopause transition and beyond as we hit our 60s and 70s. I am in my 50s, Nathalie is approaching 60 and Alice is now in her 60s. Alice is a former specialist aesthetics journalist with 20 years of reporting on the beauty and the medical aesthetics industry. She is also the founder of the Tweakments Guide, which is a content and e-commerce business focused on aesthetic treatments and skincare. So she knows just about everything there is to know that is out there on the market. Nathalie is not only expert in peptides, but also a Certified Holistic Nutritionist, an Apeiron Academy Epigenetic Coach and a member of the first graduating class of the Bulletproof Training Institute. Nathalie also has one of the best podcasts on the planet. It's now rated in the top 100 podcasts in the US and Canada in her category. And there are millions of podcasts out there now, so it's quite the achievement. So a few weeks ago, Nathalie and I were talking about the trends of big lips, fillers and what people are getting into. We had so many interesting things to say, I thought the topic deserved a podcast to get information out to you. But I also wanted to hear from a woman with experience and wisdom to give us some guidance on how to navigate this actually pretty difficult transition in life still looking and feeling our best on any budget. And so Alice came to mind. She is really an authority in this area and her mission is to educate, be authentic and bring transparency into the world of aesthetics. With us this episode are filmmaker Janis Pugh & actor, director & writer Tilda Cobham-Hervey - just two of the brilliant women showcased at the Edinburgh Festivals 2023. Anna Smith also gives top tips of other female-led highlights of the Edinburgh International Festival, Edinburgh Fringe, Edinburgh International Book Festival, and - of course - Edinburgh International Film Festival. Our first guest is Janis Pugh, writer/director of Chuck Chuck Baby which will receive its World Premiere at Edinburgh International Film Festival on 20th August. The feature is a musical comedy drama that celebrates female working class friendship and love in Wales. Helen, played by Louise Brealey (Sherlock, Smack the Pony) is stuck packing chickens by night and by day cares for a dying mother figure. Her life takes an unexpected turn with the return of Joanne, played by Annabel Scholey (Being Human, Walking on Sunshine). Janis Pugh joins Anna for a lively chat about her personal experiences of working in a chicken factory in Wales, and talks about the camaraderie she saw that inspired the film. She also explains why love is at the heart of the film, and talks about the fragile male character of Gary, played by Celyn Jones. We also chat with actor, director & writer Tilda Cobham-Hervey who, as well as working in film and TV, also works in live art and is bringing her intimate audio adventure Two Strangers Walk Into A Bar… to the Fringe. Tilda chats about her journey to making the production, and her love of immersive live experience, as well as the effects that the piece has on the two-strong audience. Anna Smith will be sharing her reaction to the piece as she updates live from the festivals, so stay tuned on the socials below. Andy Farnsworth joins KSL-TV to help audiences decipher #WhatToWatch for the weekend of August 4, 2023.  A fresh new (and highly enjoyable) reboot of “Teenage Mutant NinjaTurtles: Mutant Mayhem" leads this way 40 years after the original, with plenty of easter eggs for fans, and is very family-friendly. Another good choice is "Dreamin' Wild,"  a true story about two brothers who get a second chance at music fame thirty years after they thought their chance had passed.  Unfortunately, the lead character in ‘Shortcomings' hated himself so much that Andy finally gave in and agreed with him by the end. On streaming, “The Lost Flowers of Alice Hart” on Amazon Prime Video has Sigourney Weaver trying out an Australian accent in this drama based on a best-selling book dealing with heavy domestic violence themes. Fans of ‘Futurama' are happy to have another season to enjoy on Hulu (yet again.) And while they didn't screen the larger-than-life shark action comedy, “Meg 2: The Trench” is also heading to the big screen.   Beyond Sci-Fi, Fantasy, Gaming, and Tech, the brains behind Fan Effect are connoisseurs of categories surpassing the nerdy. Brilliant opinions and commentary on all things geek, but surprising knowledge and witty arguments over pop culture, Star Trek, MARVEL vs. DC, and a wide range of movies, TV shows, and more. On this episode, Liz and Michelle are joined by successful author and award-winning journalist, Alice Hart-Davis. The world is changing fast and having cosmetic work ‘done' is more common and normalised than ever, especially among celebrities. What are ‘tweakments', why do we often feel the need to alter ourselves as we age and if you're considering it what do you need to know? Alice, Liz and Michelle discuss all these questions and more in an open conversation all about tweakments, including Alice's own knowledge and her expert guide: ‘The Tweakments Guide' KEY TAKEAWAYS  Tweakments are non-surgical cosmetic medical procedures.  Only consider having Tweakments done by an expert. In the UK, there are a lot of untrained people offering these services, so research carefully. A good practitioner will spend a lot of time studying your face while talking to you, so they can provide you with treatments that are tailored to the way your face looks and moves. Aging is complex with many factors, you often need a variety of treatments for the best result. Take a gentle approach, try one treatment. Then, if you like the results you can do it again and maybe try something else too. Wanting to look your best is not vanity. It's all about what is right for you. BEST MOMENTS  “I feel good when I look a bit better if I'm honest and I'm not anti-aging” “These are cosmetic medical procedures. They involve needles, local anaesthetic, or energy-based devices.” “The consultation becomes almost the most important part of the whole treatment journey.” “There's no one tweak that will fix it all.” “I like a liposomal vitamin C supplement.” If you enjoyed this episode, please rate, and review it on your podcast platform.  We read every email sent to us at twowomenchatting@gmail.com so please get in touch!
