Life can really get challenging when you lose someone and they owned a business. Emily and I had to face that, with our dad, and I've shared about it and now Anna Hall is sharing about her dad. Anna has two younger brothers and she was kind enough to share their experience with settling his estate, taking care of his business and employees, and the family house her father built with his two hands. It couldn't have come at a more complicated time for Anna. She and her husband had just built a house one year prior to be a half mile between her mom and her dad who were divorced. And Anna was in school for her doctorate, had an almost 2 year old son, and at almost 31 years had no experience how to settle an estate and grieve the loss of a parent. It's never planned None of us plan when we'll pass although we may know it's coming soon. Our passing comes with great emotional distress to those we love. How can we make it easier on them? Do like Anna's dad did. Thankfully he was a meticulous person and all of his paperwork was orderly and passwords were readily available. It saved a lot of time and money in lawyer fees because the lawyer didn't have to go on a wild goose chase to obtain information. Anna advises to show up with as much paperwork as you can in that first visit. Her father assigned her uncle as the executor but let Anna and her brothers be in charge. He had a will and a separate document for the business. Her father also had titles transferred upon death saving money on taxes and keeping belongings out of probate. What to do with the business? Anna called a meeting with her brothers and a long time employee of her dad's, JR. Her dad's dying wish was to keep him working as long as JR wanted to. One of her brothers lived out of state so he wasn't going to be able to help and Anna worked as a teacher full time so they needed to assign roles. It wasn't too long after that Anna, who was the leader, realized her brothers weren't paying attention to the reports, she was fine with that but wasn't going to devote time to that anymore. Anna led her dad's company for 4 ½ years but was ready to sell the company. As fate would have it her father in law had a friend with a similar business. They needed a skilled wood crafter too like JR. Anna was able to sell her fathers company, keep JR working, and keep their current customer list serviced. It was such a blessing for Anna who now had two children and ambition to pursue a career as a result of getting her PhD. However, they did not purchase the warehouse. Anna took time to sell off items. It was sweet for Anna to have some of her father's friends stop by, share stories, and maybe claim an item or two to remember their friend. There's something about the 5 year mark There was something special for Anna to run the company for almost 5 years. She cherished being the one to carry on the legacy of her dad. If you find you just can't part with some items yet, that's ok. I always say get a storage unit, give yourself time with those items, and avoid regretting that you got rid of them. And we talked about that significant 5 year mark. I shared in a previous episode how around the 5 year mark I was able to see some of my dad's items with less significance. You start to realize that person is a part of you and your memories. They aren't that thing. The material things no longer represent them. As of Tuesday morning, there were 699 people incarcerated in Hennepin County jail — that's 99 more than the limit set by the state Department of Corrections. The DOC says in a report that understaffing in the jail is putting the safety of inmates at risk. The report also says that in the last two years, seven inmates have died there or after being transferred to the hospital. Hennepin County Sheriff Dawanna Witt has said she's working to move people through agreements with other counties. Her office requested an extension from the DOC and got one — its new deadline is Dec. 7. Rose Lobely has a personal stake in the issue. She has a relative incarcerated in the jail. Lobely and attorney Anna Hall of the Legal Rights Center joined MPR News host Nina Moini to talk about their experience.

Anna Hall is an educator, mother of two, and Co-founder of Embody, a privacy-forward menstrual health and wellness app. In this episode… As awareness grows around health data privacy, misconceptions about protecting menstrual health data remain widespread. That's because menstrual health data is often commodified and can be shared or sold without explicit user consent, exposing sensitive information to third parties. With recent legal changes affecting reproductive rights, there is a greater need than ever for secure, user-controlled solutions. What steps should companies take to prioritize and protect sensitive health data? In a rapidly changing health tech landscape, most regulations haven't adapted to cover personal wellness apps effectively, especially those designed for menstrual health tracking. Companies like Embody address this by implementing local encryption and avoiding default cloud storage, which safeguards privacy and encourages a user-first approach. By eliminating the need for logins and accounts, Embody limits data access, allowing users to track personal health information privately and securely. In this episode of She Said Privacy/He Said Security, Jodi and Justin Daniels talk with Anna Hall, Co-founder of Embody, about developing a privacy- and security-focused menstrual health app. Anna shares the story behind Embody and how the app prioritizes user privacy by eliminating user logins and passwords, keeping user data stored offline and locally on user devices. She highlights misconceptions about menstrual health data privacy and shares how Embody's design directly addresses these challenges. With features like local encryption and plans to open-source their code, Embody aims to provide secure, user-controlled health tracking that upholds privacy standards.

Send us a Text Message.I'm coming to you after just arriving home from my month-long trip to Panama, blending remote work with family vacation. I thought I would share the mixed reactions we received about our adventure and relate this to how organizations often face skepticism when trying new ideas. The main theme revolves around the concept of how thoughts become our reality and how our beliefs drive our actions towards achieving goals. I'm touching on the think-feel-do cycle, illustrating it with inspiring examples like athlete Anna Hall's use of affirmations to qualify for the Olympics. I also share a cautionary tale from a local restaurant in my neighborhood that failed due to poor marketing strategies, highlighting the importance of proactive customer engagement. Through these stories, I emphasize the power of positive thinking and visualization in overcoming challenges and achieving success. If you're ready to become the hero of your cause rather than being stuck in resignation, this episode is for you.Topics:How your thoughts become your reality and can positively or negatively influence growth, funding, and visibility. The think-feel-do cycle and how this cognitive-behavioral concept affects goal achievement. How to use affirmations and visualizations to achieve your goals (inspired by olympian, Anna Hall)Two of the biggest lies you can tell yourself when it comes to being loud in your marketing The power of doing just one thing for your cause every day and how this creates more inspired action Putting your biggest fans and supporters at the forefront of your decision making for your organization Getting away from resignation and frustration and centering yourself as the hero of your causeFor a full list of links and resources mentioned in this episode, click here.Connect with Christina on Instagram: @splendidconsulting >> Free Class on August 20th
Anna talks about founding The Purpose Equation®, an evidence-informed framework that guides people at all ages and stages of life to activate their unique, innate purpose in life and at work. Learn how having a purpose improves health, motivation, engagement, and collaboration. About Anna Anna Hall is founder and Chief Purpose Office at The Purpose Equation®. She has 25 years of experience in employee and team engagement, training, program development and launches, and technology management in senior living. As a certified life coach and speaker, Anna offers activation services, programs and training through The Purpose Equation that spark growth mindset, joy, and meaning-making in every moment of every day at work and across the lifespan. Key Takeaways Purpose is innate is an innate tool within every human that is waiting to be ignited and shared with the world. Research show people with purpose live longer, healthier lives—reducing the risk of developing dementia and strokes, maintaining mobility, and leading to higher job satisfaction. The environment for frontline employees in senior living is too transactional. Transactional jobs don't work for people “called” to make a difference. Research shows employees who feel meaningful connection to each other and to their workplace stay longer, perform better and have higher job satisfaction. Most people live with a lot of living with a lot of “shoulds,” moving through life with limiting beliefs of not being enough, which results in burnout. Purpose helps shed the “shoulds” and move into a space of owning our innate gifts and perspectives.
"Success is not final, failure is not fatal: It is the courage to continue that counts." – Winston Churchill In this episode, I share inspiring stories of resilience from three remarkable athletes: Simone Biles, Sha'Carri Richardson, and Anna Hall. Also, Sha'Carri Richardson's comeback after a suspension for cannabis use, leading to her gold medal victories in 2023. Lastly, I tell the story of Anna Hall, a heptathlete who recovered from a severe foot injury and knee surgery to secure her place in the USA Olympic team. With all of this, I emphasize the importance of mental health, overcoming setbacks, having an accountability partner, and maintaining a positive mindset on the wellness journey. Anna says that knowing your purpose equation can determine how to move through life. She believes people's purpose(s) can shift throughout their lifetime through different milestones. Later in the episode, Anna provides excellent advice for parents supporting their children to determine the child's purpose by getting curious about their interests. Tune in today to learn about individual purpose and how to create meaning and joy in everyday life. IN THIS EPISODE: [1:50] What does the word “purpose” mean? [3:23] What is the purpose equation? Purpose is not a goal or role. Who you are, what you notice, and how you're built - that's your purpose and it informs how you show up for your roles and goals. In this episode of Tips from Trestle, we explore the concept of purpose and how to find it using "The Purpose Equation®" as developed by industry veteran & entrepreneur Anna Hall. Aaron talks with Anna about her journey to creating The Purpose Equation®, and they discuss how important it is for senior living operators to create a sense of purpose throughout their communities, from staff, to residents, to families. Anna then turns the tables on Aaron by asking a few questions as she shows him how the process of creating a Purpose Equation begins. Anna Hall is the Founder + Chief Purpose Officer of The Purpose Equation®. Through over 20 years as an engagement thought-leader in senior living, the most difficult challenge of her career was how to define purpose. The questions that she asked: "We know how important it is to have a reason to rise in the morning, but how do we identify it and activate it consistently - and measure it?" The definition of purpose is vague; ‘having a sense of meaning and motivation to do things'. Anna's philosophy on purpose is derived from research, intuition, willingness to try new things, and fail, and most of all, years of interacting with people in their 80's and 90's. She now has the pleasure of collaborating with individuals and organizations to share simple, meaningful tools that define, activate, fuel and measure purpose in daily life. “I went into NCAAs thinking, ‘I need to perform for my team.' In those times that you're doubting yourself, that's partly why our team is so special. I see how hard my teammates work and I think, ‘OK. I owe them my best performance.' Even if I don't think I can pull it out for myself, I can pull it out for them.” You can make the case that Anna Hall is the best athlete on the University of Florida campus, which is wild considering all their sports teams. She won the heptathlon and finished second in the 400-meter hurdles at the NCAA Championships. It was one of the most impressive performances. That's seven events and two rounds of the 400m hurdles all out. I'm tired just thinking about it. She is also the U.S. champion from the USATF Combined Events Championships in May and has qualified for Team USA for the upcoming World Championships. She's been a multis star since high school. We go back to those days, why she gravitates towards challenging things, how she overcame disappointment from getting injured at last year's Olympic Trials and how she views her potential across so many different events. For the last 2+ years, pastors and church leaders have wondered what church after Covid would look like. While there are some conclusions to be drawn, in many ways the results are still unclear. Pastor and Researcher Ann Mitchell Hall joins the pod to talk about cultivating change readiness, leading intentionally, and making meaning meaning out of transitions from her book Church After, a book written before Covid, yet incredibly applicable to these times. Listen in to learn more about the importance of story, why listening is so important, and why shared practice is everything. Rev. Dr. Anna Hall is an ordained Baptist minister who has coordinated programs and conducted research in churches, nonprofits, and universities. In her work as Director of Research and Development for the Convergence, she draws on the latest research from across the fields of religious practice, organizational development, and adult learning to inform product development and implementation that supports the needs of pastors and churches.
