Sam Chapman calls himself an 'accidental activist' after he lost his 16 year old son to fentanyl poisoning through a drug he accessed from a drug dealer that connected with him through SnapChat. Sammy was an amazing kid — sweet, funny, curious, and an A student. His parents worked hard to keep him away from dangerous people and places. But, like most parents, they had no idea that drug dealers were preying on children using Snapchat and other social media platforms. Sam and his wife have turned their pain into purpose with the proposal of 'Sammy's Law' that would force tech companies to use third party safety software integration to keep minors safe online inside of these platforms. In this episode, you'll hear the story of Sammy Chapman, who was 16 years old when he suffered from fentanyl poisoning from a free pill that a drug dealer dropped off at his house. The drug deal took place on Snapchat, which is quickly becoming known as an "open air drug market for kids." “When we're able to step into the shoes of that person who's struggling, people start to open their minds about what their willing to allow to be an ok answer to helping those people and I think psychedelic healing is really starting to jump into that lane and into the driver seat.” Welcome everyone to the It Matters To Me Podcast, a show seeks out the passions in all of our lives and the motivations behind why we pursue them. With me on this episode is Sam Chapman, Executive Director for the nonprofit organization, Healing Advocacy Fund.   With over a decade of experience in advocating for progressive drug policy reforms at the local, state, and national level, Sam co-authored House Bill 3460 in 2013 that legalized medical marijuana dispensaries. More recently, he's served as the Campaign Manager for Measure 109 in Oregon, the law that legalized the first ever psilocybin therapy program in the United States.   We talk about how his upbringing in Oregon helped pave the way in his fight for psychedelic therapies to become publicly available and how Oregon is setting the standard for other states to follow in their legislative footsteps. We also get into where the future of legal psychedelic therapies can go and why it's important to learn from the mistakes over the past decade in legalizing cannabis sales. Full of great insights into how the tools we use to support mental health are starting to evolve, our conversation really hits home and is one I hope you'll enjoy. The Yankees have an early lead in their 2022 American League Division Series matchup with the Cleveland Guardians! So Josh Diemert, Peter Brody, and Sam Chapman gathered in the postgame glow to chat about the big 4-1 win on Twitter Spaces. Gerrit Cole allowed just one run on four hits and a walk in 6.1 innings of work while striking out eight, recovering from third-inning shakiness to keep Cleveland quiet. Meanwhile, Harrison Bader had the Yankee Stadium crowd buzzing with a solo shot for his first homer in pinstripes, tying the game in the third. New York took the lead in the fifth and Anthony Rizzo provided insurance with a two-run bomb in the sixth. The bullpen took over from there and held on for the Game 1 victory. All these themes from the game are discussed, and they also took a peek ahead at Game 2's forthcoming Nestor Cortes/Shane Bieber showdown. One win down and hopefully ten more to go. We have received a drastic increase in phone calls from parents and family members about tragic loss due to fentanyl overdose death. After our conversation on Ep. 24 with Dr. Laura Berman, whose son Samuel lost his life to a pill he purchased on snapchat, we were left heartbroken and passionate about finding, or creating, a real solution to this problem. We connected Dr. Berman with our Ep. 9 Guest, Titania Jordan, who is the Chief Parent Officer at BARK technologies and they, along with others, came up with #LetParentsProtect—A petition for Snapchat, TikTok, and other social media platforms to urge them to allow parents to use third party monitoring tools like BARK to protect children online. The petition argues that in order to save lives, parents need to be the ones who make the choice about whether they want to use third party safety apps, and we couldn't agree more.Today on The Balanced Voice we welcome Dr. Berman and Titania Jordan back to the podcast along with Dr. Berman's husband, Samuel Chapman, Marc Berkman the CEO of the Organization for Social media Safety, and Roger Crystal, CEO of Opiant Pharmaceuticals, Inc and the founder of NARCAN Nasal Spray to discuss the need for better regulations on social media and the dangers of fentanyl. Sam is now the Executive Director of the Healing Advocacy Fund, a non-profit focused on ensuring the smooth and equitable rollout of the program. In this episode, we discussed: Sam's origin story [2:05] Sam's involvement with SSDP (Students for Sensible Drug Policy), medical cannabis legalization, and policymaking [8:20] Sam's role in Measure 109 & Healing Advocacy Fund [10:55] About Measure 109 [13:35] Lessons from the cannabis field [21:00] Hopes and aims for an equitable program [23:55] The difference between legalization and decriminalization [47:15] Message for white allies (& those who aspire to be allies) [58:40] Elan speaks on allyship [1:01:35] Big dreams for the future [1:09:05] What healing means to him [1:15:45] "We should absolutely decriminalize psilocybin and psychedelics. If you're claiming that you're doing this to end prohibition and the harms of the war on drugs, you've got to open your scope. People are not going to jail at the same rate for psychedelics as they are for other drugs. Decriminalization is simply the removal of criminal penalties for possession [Oregon's Measure 110]. Measure 109 is separate. It created its own bubble, which provides legal protection for you to provide or access psilocybin services within the legal structure. Sam Chapman is a makeup artist, content creator and businesswoman who joined me on the podcast to have a frank and open discussion about mental health. At the time of recording, back in the summer of 2018, both Sam and I had made strides with our own mental health and having this conversation was with the aim of creating a safe resource for anyone listening who may be going through something similar. Sometimes, when you're struggling, it can feel very lonely and both Sam and I were keen to have a conversation that would make anyone feeling isolated, alone and helpless feel comforted that they weren't alone and that there were options and ways to move forward positively. In the two and half years since this episode was published I've had numerous messages from you, my most-excellent listeners, saying how useful this episode was, how much you appreciated Sam's honesty and how it helped you understand your own mental health and have empathy for other people experiencing something similar too. This is a conversation I think back to time and time again, and given the year we've had and how 2020 has plunged people deeper into mental and emotional distress, or caused people to experience these things for the first time, I thought revisiting this chat may be helpful. In this conversation, @samchapman and I discuss:What it's like to feel depressed and why no two depressions look the same. Why sometimes it's the people around you who'll sense your struggle before you do - and why that's ok.The building blocks of recovery and how little things can have a huge impact. How not all relationships survive your recovery and how to make peace with that. How depression can sometimes feel like a slow disconnection from yourself and how to reconnect - and much more.To join the closed Facebook group for the podcast click here >> The Emma Guns Show Forum. To follow me on social media >> Twitter | Instagram. Sam Chapman, Campaign Manager Yes On Measure 109 (Psilocybin Therapy) is this week’s guest on the Green Rush. Measure 109 is a carefully crafted ballot initiative supported by medical experts, veterans, and people from over 300 Oregon cities to bring psilocybin therapy to Oregon. Much like how Oregon led the U.S. on cannabis legalization, this year, on the ballot in Oregon, voters will be able to decide whether to approve the U.S.’s first medical psilocybin program. As the Campaign Manager for this initiative Sam has been instrumental in gaining support for this measure having helped gather over 164,000 signatures supporting the proposed legislation. Against all odds, including COVID-19 we may see the very first legal psychedelics market in the US. Our host Anne Donohoe sat down with Sam to get a full update on the campaign and talk through some of the critical components of this initiative including why was Oregon chosen to lead the psychedelics movement, how the campaign has been funded, what the program will look like if voters approve of the measure and how long it will take to ramp up the market. Sam also provides more information on his background and how our listeners can get involved to help push this campaign across the finish line.  So don’t sit back, lean forward and enjoy!  Sam Chapman, Campaign Manager for the Yes On Measure 109 Sam is the Campaign Manager for the Yes On IP 34 Campaign (aka the Psilocybin Services Initiative) in Oregon, a ballot initiative campaign seeking to create the first ever state wide regulated Psilocybin therapy program in the United States. Sam has over a decade of experience in advocating for progressive drug policy reforms at the local, state, and national level. His previous experience includes consulting for statewide political campaigns, assisting local governments in writing rules and regulations, and identifying new opportunities within emerging industries. In 2013 Sam co-authored House Bill 3460, the Oregon law that legalized medical marijuana dispensaries. Sam has been a resident of Oregon for 20 years. listen on itunes I Heart Forever on Kindle, £3.99. Lindsey Kelk (@lindseykelk) joins me on this episode of the podcast to talk about her I Heart... series, her podcast Full Coverage and her 'creative process'. We holed ourselves away in the Bobbi Brown Pro store in Soho to chat about how this Doncaster born-and-bred girl found herself living in LA, how she got her first book published and how that first book has turned into a 13, and counting, series.  We chat about finding your best girlfriends, pushing outside your comfort zone, how her 'what might have been' motivated her to move to New York and why it shouldn't be weird to talk about your creative process. There's a lot of talk about awkward teenage years and always knowing there was something bigger out there in the world and finding yourself and your tribe.  Lindsey and I met on twitter (@lindseykelk) where you can often find us wanging on about wrestling, beauty products and other important issues.  To view Mark Kermode reviewing Entourage, which I strongly recommend you do, click this link >> ENTOU-RAGE. Off Camera with Sam Jones on YouTube. Lindsey mentioned her colourist, Naomi Knights, and you can find her here >> NAOMI KNIGHTS. If you enjoyed this conversation please do head over to iTunes and leave me a 5-star rating and review. also in this episode Dr Dennis Gross Spectralite is coming to the UK soon. The superhero style mask emits amber, red, deep red and infrared wavelengths that gently stimulate collagen production, which reduces the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles in just a few minutes every day for several weeks.  I've developed a mild, scrap that, absolutely ridiculous obsession with Missoma jewellery. I saw some viewers asking Sam Chapman where her necklaces were from on an instagram live and she mentioned the brand so I found myself on their site having a mini-conniption about their earrings. If you're a regular listener you'll know I had three new piercings a few months ago and have been looking for hoops and studs that don't break the bank. Reader, I think I've found them. I'm crushing quite hard on the turquoise drop hoops and am incredibly keen to build up a wardrobe of the shield necklaces, oh, and the fang necklace. See, it's a problem. Take a look if you like gorgeous jewellery... See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

How will autonomous vehicles drive on the roads of today? How can we ensure that they will drive safely alongside humans? Automated technology in cars could help to prevent accidents and reduce congestion and emissions in cities. However, automated driving is highly complex and requires systems to respond to a wide range of real-world driving situations.Professor Sandor Veres has been working with telematics company The Floow LTD to develop automated vehicles that can learn from the behaviour of human drivers. In this video, we’ll first hear from Dr Sam Chapman, Chief Innovation Officer at the Floow, as he explains the types of information that can be gathered from drivers and how this can be used to educate drivers, and improve infrastructure and town planning. We’ll then hear from Sandor about how this data is helping the University in their current research project, designing systems that use driver experienced based decision-making (DEBDAC).

Ree Lodge (@reallyree) and her website www.reallyree.com are the 'breaking news' of beauty. If it's launching, it's on her site, which is about to undergo a massive redesign, and being first, thorough and correct is of paramount importance to Ree. In this episode Ree talks to me about the early days of Really Ree, of joining twitter on a whim, writing blog posts, but also what life had looked like before she dominated the beauty news arena. She talks to me about her career in recruitment, where you could argue her competitive nature was born, and why she went from a high-paid job into a passion role and how she's gone on to monetise the latter. It's a really robust conversation where we cover topics including self-preservation, the idea of luck, guilt, motivation and she shares a brilliant piece of advice for anyone going after what they want in life: “You haven't failed unless you give up.” — Ree Also in this episode... It was a busy week in beauty and among other things I went to the launch party for Real Techniques new collection Powder Bleu launching July 2017 - a new variety of brushes designed to be used with powder. The six-piece collection includes a Soft Complexion Brush, £22, a Soft Powder Brush, £22, Soft Finishing Brush, £22, Soft Shader Brush, £15, Soft Kabuki Brush, £25 and Plush Powder Puff, £12. The event was held in the Blue Room at The Curtain Hotel in Shoreditch and hosted by Sam Chapman and Nic Haste Chapman and included readings from the Psychic Sisters and entertainment from Britain's Got Talent Finalists DNA. The food from Red Rooster was next-level and reminded me of Hart of Dixie, which is never a bad thing.  There are certain events that are just joyful and hanging out with Sam and Nic is always such a pleasure (listen to their podcast here) but also some of my favourite beauty colleagues; Sali Hughes, Nadine Baggott, Really Ree, Madeleine Spencer, Claire Coleman, Jo Glanville-Blackburn and many more... One good thing about being 5'4" - snuggle potential with my taller guests. Back by popular demand! In her second visit to The Emma G Podcast Nadine (@nadinebaggott/@nadinebaggott) returns to delve into, and debunk, skincare myths. You may know her as the Health & Beauty Editor of Hello! or as The Beauty Know It All over on YouTube, but one thing is for sure, she is an endless  resource of skincare knowledge and beauty know-how. After her first visit, where we discussed Generation Y, #antisocialmedia and how she came to carve out one of the beauty industry's most impressive careers, listeners wanted more - and you've got it! Here she talks cosmetic procedures, what you really need from your skincare and her healthy sense of skepticism. But it's a 90 minute show so we obviously indulged in a little Real Housewives chatter... Nadine is all about honesty - #nofilter #nofacetune and #ownyourshit In this episode Nadine explains why she's so passionate about skincare. Why every woman should be googling the ingredients on their product labels - knowledge is power - and whether you really need to spend money on your anti-ageing creams. We also chat about her rules for sunbathing, whether or not essential oils should play a role in your beauty buying and why she loves a skincare expert in a white coat. Ever thought about going under the knife, getting injectables or having a laser treatment? Nadine gives a no-holds-barred account of what the pain is really like and whether the results are worth it. And if you've ever felt guilty about falling asleep in your makeup, listen to Nadine - you won't anymore... Check out Nadine's product know-how and ingredient knowledge... Other topics covered in the show include the author Jo Hoare and her brilliant books, which can be found here on Amazon,  previous podcast guests Caroline Barnes and her Speed Beauty channel over on Facebook and Sam Chapman of Pixiwoo. Brands mentioned include: Paula's Choice, NeoStrata, Oxygenetics, Malibu, Obagi, Dr Dennis Gross and The Ordinary. If you've like Nadine to return for a third instalment let me know by emailing me at thebeautypodcast@gmail.com Note: Nadine called me after our chat to say she should have said Vitamin B3 and not Vitamin B12 when she was talking about Niacinamide.
