See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

On this special LIVE REMOTE BROADCAST of CASCADE OF HISTORY, Feliks Banel is joined by co-host Lee Corbin to mark the centennial of the around-the-world flight which concluded at what's now Sand Point/Magnuson Park in Seattle, just a short distance from the SPACE 101.1 FM studios. Corbin and Banel interview historians and aviation experts - including Knute Berger, historian Mike Lombardi of Boeing, Ted Huetter of the Museum of Flight and US Air Force Brigadier General Frank Goodell - and provide live coverage and color commentary on the centennial festivities organized by the Friends of Magnuson Park. Thank you to special guest Jay of Jay's Radio Hour for spinning 78rpm discs from 1924 to mark the occasion. Special thanks to field producer Shawn Murphy, and to Eric Zappa and Megan Hanna of SPACE 101.1 FM who ran the mixing board back at the station. NOTE: This live and remote local radio broadcast was not without technical glitches, and audio quality of some of the vintage 78rpm records suffered at times. It's all part of the magic of broadcasting LIVE from a grassy field (including when someone cut the power by tripping on the extension cord). Enjoy! Banel and Adama is a great romance, a West African dreamscape, a tragic fable, and a feminist paean. Young, fiery Banel loves her soft-hearted husband Adama with singular passion. She also hates to do chores with other village women, slings stones at small creatures, and fantasizes a liberated life of cattle-herding outside the village in the dunes. Adama is next in line for village chief but resists the responsibility. When a catastrophic drought hits, the curse weighs on his sense of duty, and the chasm between them drives Banel into a feverish, mystical chaos. Senegal's official submission to the 2024 Oscars®, BANEL & ADAMA was the only debut feature in Cannes' Official Competition in 2023, and marked Sy as just the second Black woman to compete for the Palme d'Or, after her French-Senegalese compatriot Mati Diop (Atlantics), in the festival's 76-year history. Director and writer Ramata-Toulaye Sy joins us for a conversation on her breathtaking feature film debut.

A hétvége második napján is folytatódott a sztárdömping Cannes-ban. A borítóképet Varga Emma rajzolta.

The compilation made an important impact not only due to its success with listeners, but it also ushered in the beginning of a new and exciting direction in the scene – the formation of a label that aimed at promoting and pioneering new styles within the psytrance scene. With the release of the Tryptamin and Ethnobotony compilations which followed in 2000, the concept of the compilation series made a clear statement about Iboga's focus on showcasing new artists, new styles and the ever expanding diversity of psychedelic trance. That drive to present innovative and wide-randing sounds has continued to be the foundation of the label ever since. Label bosses Emok and Banel now go back to the roots and revive this compilation series with a new edition titled 'Entheogenic', featuring a diverse range of tracks from both well established producers and promising up-and-coming talent. My guest today is Andro Martinez.   Andro is an outstanding guitarist, audio engineer, producer and songwriter.   Andro has worked and played with many of the best which includes Darryl Beaton and the D1 Cartel, Gang of Brothers (which includes Dauno, Banel, Fenix Martinez and Buddy Siolo), he's recently engineered and mixed Carlos C Major's upcoming album out of his recording studio Martinez Productions which he shares with his partner and artist Lily Guerrero, and he's currently producing EPs and tracks for a whole bunch of artists out the studio.   We talk about his early days in Chile, touring around with his Father, the great Victor Martinez, and watching his shows from side of stage. Moving with his family to Sydney, not speaking any English yet he and his family found their voice through their art, their music.   We talk about musicians, gigs, the recording process, influences, inspirations, gear, friends and music.   This one has been a long time in the making. Ladies and gentleman, please give it up for Andro Martinez.    This episode was recorded 07/07/2020.    Intro Music: "Mama's Recipe" - Andro Martinez ft Lily Guerrero. Outro Music: "One More Round" - Gang of Brothers   For more info on Andro: Facebook Instagram     Check out The Gig Life Podcast's Music of the Guests Spotify Playlist. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------   Click here to securely donate to The Gig Life Podcast via PayPal.   Your support is very much appreciated.
