What if one conversation could completely change how you advocate for your baby in the NICU? In this episode of the Empowering NICU Parents Podcast, NICU mom and Neonatal Nurse Practitioner, Nicole Nyberg is joined by Dr. Melinda Elliott, neonatologist and Chief Medical Officer at Prolacta Bioscience. Together, they dive deep into the emotional and clinical realities of life in the NICU—highlighting the critical role that parents play in their baby's care from day one. You'll hear powerful insight on why skin-to-skin contact is far more than a comfort measure, how to ask the right questions about your baby's feeding plan, and why human milk-based fortifiers can be a game changer in preventing serious complications like NEC. And here's something every NICU parent needs to know: just because something is called a “human milk fortifier” doesn't mean it's made from human milk. That's why it's essential to ask what your baby is truly being fed—and why it matters. Whether you're a NICU parent navigating the unknown or a clinician committed to improving outcomes, this conversation will leave you feeling informed, supported, and inspired to take action. The Indianapolis Vision Zero Task Force has released an initial plan to make the city safer for pedestrians, cyclists and drivers. The Indiana Department of Child Services is undergoing what it calls a “transformational” reorganization of its agency. Indiana officials seek to execute a third death row inmate less than a year after the state ended its 15-year pause on capital punishment. Mothers are now able to purchase and drop off donated human breast milk at an Ascension St. Vincent site in Carmel. Want to go deeper on the stories you hear on WFYI News Now? Thursday, May 29 - Dr. Jack Stockwell (www.forbiddendoctor.com & www.jackstockwell.com | Phone: 866-867-5070), a GAPS Practitioner and NUCCA Chiropractor, discusses the biggest concerns for health and medical news from a natural position over prescription drugs. He starts today's episode with the beginnings of his relationship with Doug Stephan before getting into the biggest topics in health and wellness news from a holistic point of view, including the benefits of breastmilk, the harmful side of baby formula, and why he opposes vaccines for newborns. Next, Dr. Jack gets into nutrients for the mother in your life and his own “Jack's Pack for Mom” that can help with skin, hair and nails — which you can find at ForbiddenDoctor.com or by calling 801.523.1890 and tell them you want the May Special Jack's Pack for Mom. Circling back to the breastmilk conversation, Dr. Jack shares the benefits of breastfeeding for mothers who breastfeed, including an improved bond between mother and baby, a quicker recovery of postpartum hormones, slashes risk of longterm diseases, and more. To round out the conversation, Doug and Dr. Jack conversate on how an adjustment of the upper cervical spine can benefit problems resulting from stress, the sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous system, the problem our diets cause in terms of metabolic stress, and the importance of eating foods that are closer to what mother nature intended. Twisters, power and internet outages meant no podcast on Tuesday, but Kelly and Lizz are back and ready to get into what's been going on. First, Kelly is recapping her family trip to Arizona. "It's an easy three-hour flight!" Not so much when you have four kids in tow! When did families lose the respect on planes and kids are considered an inconvenience? Kelly and Lizz have some hot takes on traveling with your kids that they need to share. Then, it's time to catch up with Lizz and baby Sloan's formula intolerance. They finally got a diagnosis on exactly what is going on and this is going to be more difficult to navigate than anticipated. What makes it harder is Lizz's breast milk supply is going down and when that's all Sloan can take it's become pretty stressful. Luckily, Kelly and some other kind souls have come to the rescue! There will be some tears shed during this conversation. To lighten the mood, Kelly and Lizz take you into their bank accounts with Last Three Transactions. Kelly started with buying the $8 wifi on her flight, which ended up costing her much more after all the online shopping! Easter pjs anyone? She has also continued on her press-on nail journey and is now venturing into the world of red sneakers. Lizz is investing in many items to help Sloan's feeding journey including a new breast pump, nursing bras and a bottle warmer. Plus, she's getting ahead on the summer rush and braving the bathing suit section at Old Navy. In Industry News, Kelly gives her review on the new Hyundai Santa Fe. Did they have enough room for the entire family and all their luggage? Not so much. Also, ever wonder what would happen if you got to empty on your gas gauge? Car and Driver put the Toyota Grand Highlander to the test to see how many miles they could actually get when it says you have zero miles left. Finally, in Ditch the Drive-Thru Lizz is all about the viral beef bowl trend while Kelly fills us in on what she is cooking on her Blackstone! Learn more about your ad choices.
