Tennis journalist Yasmin Syed from The Dailly Express joins the show to discuss another week of drama on the courts, headlined by Mirra Andreeva's 1000 level title in Dubai. Syed examines how the 17-year-old claimed the biggest prize of her young career, and why the No. 9 ranked player in the world has that star quality as well. The writer also recaps Andrey Rublev's exciting run to the winner's circle in Doha, and she explains why it was Rublev's mental strength that ultimately made the difference. And Syed proclaims why the Golden Swing needs to be a permanent fixture on the tennis calendar, on the heels of Sebastian Baez winning Rio for the second straight year. Syed also recounts how she became a tennis fan at a young age, and the steps she did to forge a successful career in the media industry. The writer also reviews the current state of British tennis with Jack Draper & Emma Raducanu leading the charge, and forecasts what to expect at this week's events happening all around the world. Hosted by Mitch Michals.

Rain, roofs and Rafa! It's time for an admittedly damp French Open Round 1 catch-up as Joel is joined by Chris live in Paris to look back on all the action from the first three days in Paris. It's been an emotional last couple of days in tennis as Rafael Nadal bowed out of possibly his last Roland Garros to Alexander Zverev. Elsewhere, Andy Murray also exited with a losing effort to long time rival Stan Wawrinka and Alize Cornet got a home crowd career send off on Phillipe Chatrier. It wasn't all retirement chat though as Paris saw easy return to tour victories for Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner whilst Swiatek, Sabalenka and Rybakina all got their campaigns up and running with comfortable starts. This wasn't the case though for British Tennis as the Brits endured a miserable few days on the clay. However this didn't dampen spirits at Tennis Weekly HQ as Joel and Chris look forward to Round 2 and the exciting prospect of Swiatek vs. Osaka (!)BOODLES COMPETITIONTo enter our Boodles competition for a chance to win a pair of stadium tickets all you have to do is follow us on social media @tennisweeklypod, like our competition post and tag a friend that you would like to bring with you.Maximum 2 entries per person, one per social channel and competition closes on Saturday 1st June at midnight. What does it take to make the journey from a talented junior to being a rising star on the pro tennis tour? There's many variables and if there was a set recipe I'm sure thousands of parents and coaches would cook it up for their little proteges! But I firmly believe lessons can be learned from those who have made the journey. Today, I'm really excited to talk to one such stakeholder. Shane Deacon is an LTA GB National Pathway Coach, he's the inventor of the amazing TargetBound tennis coaching aid and he has also played a key role in the journey of the British Tennis player Toby Samuel who made his Wimbledon debut back in July. Our international coach educator and player development consultant from the United Kingdom is Simon Wheatley. In this episode, Simon talks about the importance of "chewing gum" in that we must be continuously reflecting on our skills. Great coaches are like Sherlock Holmes - they can process things quickly and use deductive reasoning to make effective decisions. Even though we are all just "corks bobbing in the ocean", we have the ability to be a "Tour de Force" in our own lives in order to create a ripple effect and build from every learning experience. If are want a snapshot of Simon's pearls of wisdom in this very honest episode - cut to the chase below; Best coaching moment – you improve people by making them more competent 3:28 Worst professional moment – handling redundancy 6:10 Sliding Doors – the ripple effect of going to university and find your point of difference to accelerate your career 9:06 *Note: "Write more than you read!" And develop your opinions. What makes a great coach? 15:48 What separates you from others? Why you in that role? What led you to that role? 19:50 What messages keep showing up in your life? The shortage of coaches 22:48 Invest in your people 29:30 Did you ever question your coaching career? 30:16 Learning from others: Peter King - 'See the problem and zoom out from it, from afar.' See the problem a different way 33:10 When someone has a different point of view from you - 1. Really Listen (don't try to win the argument) - Pull back. 2. Summarize and paraphrase what the person has said back to them Great leaders are around the table, not at the top of the table 36:33 Be a dolphin trainer, keep feeding the fish when they are doing well (the power of positive praise is seductive) 37:32 You can find this thought leader on Instagram (Wheatleytennis2022), Linked In and Facebook and learn more about his background below. Emma Raducanu Becomes An Instant Millionaire But Is Sport The Best Way To Make A Million? British tennis sensation Emma Raducanu became a millionaire at 18 when she was presented with a cheque for $2.5 million after winning the US Open in straight sets on Saturday. As I watched her collecting the cheque form the sponsors commentators were already predicting that she will become the richest woman in British sport and the most famous Brit alongside the Queen! No pressure then! She certainly has the whole package of charisma, talent and brains to appeal to sponsors and advertisers which will propel her to the ranks of other sporting superstars such as David Beckham and Ronlado. Emma was born in Toronto, Canada to a Romanian father and Chinese mother who then migrated to the UK for better opportunities. She is the first qualifier, which means she has to play pre-match games in order to qualify to enter the tournament, to reach and win a Grand Slam final where she played another teenager Leylah Fernandez of migrant heritage. Leylah's father is Ecuadorian and her mother is Filipino Canadian. Last week, in an interview with Jeremy Vine on BBC Radio 2, the former British Tennis player Andrew Castle commented that there was something about both of the finalist's ordinary migrant heritage that seemed to give them that extra drive and ambition to succeed against all the odds. Emma will inspire young people to take up tennis and other sports which is wonderful. She will need to keep her feet on the ground and concentrate on her game rather than celebrity appearances, as well as very good financial advice. Too many young stars who become so-called ‘instant millionaires' end up broke a few years later. In fact, according to research for the book Secrets of the Millionaire Next Door, only a tiny percentage of millionaires are sports stars or celebrities. Most self-made millionaires are people in business. The first step to building wealth and turning your finances around is financial education. Congratulations to British teenager Emma Raducanu, reached the US Open final as her meteoric rise to fame continued with a stunning semi-final victory over Greek 17th seed Maria Sakkari in New York. Londoner Raducanu, who was born in Toronto, Canada to a Romanian father and Chinese mother, extended her dream run with a 6-1 6-4 victory in which her dominance on court defied belief. She is the first qualifier, which means she has to play pre-match games in order to qualify to enter the tournament, to reach a Grand Slam final and will play another teenager Leylah Fernandez of migrant heritage on Saturday. Leylah's father is Ecuadorian and her mother is Filipino Canadian. In an interview with Jeremy Vine today on BBC Radio 2, the former British Tennis player Andrew Castle commented that there was something about both of the finalist's ordinary migrant heritage that seemed to give them that extra drive and ambition to succeed against all the odds. Raducanu is the first British woman in a major singles final in 44 years. Prior to her amazing run to the Wimbledon last 16 earlier this summer, Raducanu was ranked just 336th in the world and was unknown outside the tennis world. This win puts her on the verge of the top 30 after already being assured of becoming the British women's number one by reaching the last four at Flushing Meadows. It also gives the London teenager - who also passed her A Levels this summer – at shot at one of tennis' most prestigious titles when she faces Canadian 19-year-old world number 73 Fernandez at 21:00 BST on Saturday. Source: BBC Sport. We in the UK will be cheering you and wishing you all the best for the final tomorrow Emma! But whoever takes the title, it will be a victory for all hardworking dedicated migrants! Watch videoversion… Emma, who had previously booked a flight home for the end of the qualifiers, could become the highest paid British sportswoman of all time according to commentators, but it is still early days. There is no doubt that her earnings potential and profile have skyrocketed into the millions since she splashed onto our screens this summer at Wimbledon. She will need to keep her feet on the ground and concentrate on her game rather than celebrity appearances, as well as very good financial advice. Too many young stars who become so-called ‘instant millionaires' end up broke a few years later. ParentingAces - The Junior Tennis and College Tennis Podcast

Barry Fulcher grew up in a Tennis Family. His parents and his siblings were avid players, so it was only fitting that Barry start honing his racquet and court skills as a toddler in the UK. His love of the game and of competition led him to a very successful junior tennis career such that he decided to go the professional route rather than come to the US to try his hand in our college tennis system (much to his mother's chagrin, I might add!). After realizing he couldn't sustain a pro career, Barry moved into coaching. However, his love of competition persisted and he sought out tournaments where he could continue to hone his game. He soon realized the lack of good level competitive opportunities in his home country, both for juniors and for adults.  In 2017, Barry created The Progress Tour, a series of UTR-powered tournaments throughout the UK. He consulted with Sarah Borwell of TennisSmart to work out the details of his tour including sponsors who would help fund the prize money he wanted to offer. In addition to playing matches, participants (and their parents) in The Progress Tour have the opportunity to learn from experts in various aspects of tennis including college recruiting, coaching, and the mental game. The thing that jumped out at me during my conversation with Barry was the similarities of Tennis Parents and our concerns regardless of whether we're in the US, the UK, or anywhere else around the world. It helps keeps thing in perspective, I think, when we learn that other countries face the same tennis challenges as we do here in the States. This year, Barry celebrates 10 years of being cancer-free (after being diagnosed shortly after his wedding) and has decided to organize a tennis event to raise money for the Sussex Cancer Fund and The Cancer Research UK. He calls the Davis-Cup-like event British Tennis vs. The Big C, so please check it out at the link below.
