A theme for both this podcast and our lives is to live with urgency; to not be held back by whatever circumstances we find ourselves in. Nobody brings that to life more clearly than our guest this week, Carol Decker. During Carol’s second pregnancy, she was affected by sepsis, a blood infection. She had her baby seven weeks early as a result, and also lost both of her hands, most of her left leg, her eyesight, and she required skin grafts. Carol talks about how no matter what disability we face in each of our lives, we have to realize that we are still valued and needed. She herself came to realize this the first time she fed her young daughter; who didn’t understand anything about her mom’s disabilities, but still needed her mom. She was also reminded of her own value when her therapist told her that today they would make cookies with her daughters. Carol didn’t think she could do that because of her injuries, but that experience was a precious bonding time between her and her daughters. We want to thank Carol for joining us. You can find out more about Carol at https://www.caroljdecker.com/ and check out her book, Unshattered, here.
Carol is a badass
You do not want to miss this incredible story. Seriously....you don't. Think about going in for an emergency to have your second child only to wake up with no legs, no hand, and no vision. Well, this was a reality for the incredibly beautiful Carol Decker. She shares her story and what she went through- but then sheds light on all of the miracles that happened as well. Carol is a hope giver- if she can accomplish all that she has after experiencing this incredible trial (and still continues), then it gives hope that we can too. Learn how she was able to learn how to not only walk but ski again too! How she wrote a book and is speaking on stages! This woman is unstoppable!!

In this episode Gearoid travels to Henley on Thames to pay a visit T’pau singer and 80s rock queen Carol Decker. We take a nostalgic look back at her glory days and chat about everything from fridges to “The Killing”. In the 80s Carol Decker and her former partner Ronnie Rogers shared a damp flat in which they wrote songs chasing their dream of superstardom which remained elusive for six years. They endured the heartache of publishing deals falling through but always believed in their songs. When success came it was worth the wait and their band T’Pau (named after a Star Trek character became huge all over the world) with hits like “Heart and Soul”, “China in your Hand” and “Valentine”. When it all ended Carol mourned her fame for a long time until she met a new manager, a new man and embraced her past. She is now the mother of two teenagers and has forged a solo career. She reunited with Ronnie for a 25th anniversary T’pau tour and they made another critically acclaimed T’pau album. Carol tours regularly and has released her autobiography “Heart & Soul”. If you enjoy this episode please share it and leave a review on iTunes and while you are there why not treat yourself to some T’Pau! T'Pau - The Whole Story... T’Pau’s Carol Decker joins SNS Online in part one (of two) of an extended interview, available here as a free download. Having recently returned to the pop world with a brand new, critically acclaimed album, Pleasure & Pain, complete with UK tour, part one covers T’Pau’s early rise to fame, their quadruple platinum debut album, Bridge of Spies - and beyond - plus the lifestyle that they all enjoyed during that creative musical explosion that was the 1980s. But why did it all stop when it did, and how different has motherhood affected Carol in recent years, as T’Pau once more steps into the limelight..? In a very honest (and funny!) interview, Carol and Nick put the world to rights in a secret location in Henley-on-Thames (a pub), and not only cover T’Pau’s initial glory days, but discuss the wonderful pop culture of the 1980’s onwards (wearing black arm-bands for the demise of Top of the Pops...). Illustrated with T’Pau’s hits and archive material. A show to be enjoyed if you're a T'Pau/Carol Decker fan, or if you just want to immerse yourselves in that heady era of 80's nostalgia...
