Chris McGowan (Yale's former co-chair of the Parents Leadership Council) joined me for a live audience conversation about working with parent volunteers and donors. It is worth listening to the end where we will have a live Q and A! Chris McGowan is the General Partner of CJM Ventures (“CJMV”), a Chicago growth equity and private equity investment firm. McGowan's private equity career began 29 years ago with AEA Investors in New York City, after earning an undergraduate degree in theoretical mathematics from Columbia University's College of Arts and Sciences, and following two years of mergers and acquisitions training at Morgan Stanley. After completing an MBA at Harvard Business School, he joined Madison Dearborn Partners (“MDP”) in Chicago, where he co-headed their basic industries practice for the last five years of his 12-year career there.  At MDP, he oversaw more than $2 billion of equity investments focused on buyouts and growth equity globally in the industrial, consumer, and energy & power sectors.  He continues to serve on the Board of prior MDP portfolio company Boise Cascade (former Chairman of Audit Committee, NYSE: BCC) and formerly served on or advised the boards of Smurfit Kappa Group (LN: SKG), BWAY Holdings, FirstWind, US Power Generating, OPENLANE, The Illinois Venture Capital Association, and others. --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/devdebrief/support

For the dog lovers, this one's for you. This man has found a way to *potentially* expand your dogs life by 32 months with his innovative product, Tuggs. In today's episode we have Harry Bremner, Founder of Tuggs. Tuggs is an award-winning pet wellness startup creating freshly-prepared dog food in a sustainable way.  But there's a twist - their secret super power is insects, providing a sustainable edge to their product whilst not compromising on protein or minerals. In this episode, Harry talks about his entrepreneurial journey of founding multiple business, including a student storage service, an events company, and a digital marketing agency, before creating Tuggs. We dive into his interest for sustainable food sources and his research into entomophagy (insects as a food source), after learning about the EU regulations allowing insects to be used in aqua feed in 2017 – demonstrating how understanding changing regulatory landscapes can spark innovation. The environmental impacts from the pet food industry is astounding and Harry's episode makes for a really interesting listen; He elaborates as to why insects as a protein source are sustainable, requiring significantly less land, water and emit few carbon emissions compared to the meat used from traditional livestock and the process of making kibble. Tuggs have proved that personalisation and attention to sustainability can be significant differentiators in a crowded market, offering a unique selling proposition.Harry shares insights on fundraising and the importance of warm introductions in the venture capital world, which Chris McGowan at Burns Sheehan has actively contributed to. He also discusses the challenges of finding a manufacturing partner and advises on being conservative with launch timelines.Follow The Start-Up Diaries Podcast on LinkedIn, Instagram, or find more free content from the Tech Recruitment Specialists powering The Start-Up Diaries - Burns Sheehan.

In security, aligning with product teams has never been more important, especially when outmaneuvering adversaries. To foster a truly productive and action-oriented cybersecurity culture, security teams must begin addressing their product engineering counterparts as customers they serve rather than entities they govern. In this podcast, ISACA's Chris McGowan listens in as Adobe's Manager of Adversary Intelligence Gurpartap “GP” Sandhu provides unique insight into how he's bringing intrapreneurship to life in product security through a key project that delivers actionable data that product teams can use to enhance their security posture more rapidly. They'll also discuss how his team is harnessing strong adversary focus using the power of data and share advice on how you can stay ahead of adversaries by better predicting their next move in the ever-changing threat landscape. Organizations today struggle with vulnerability management. More specifically, remediating vulnerabilities in a timely manner poses a challenge. With vulnerability remediation backlogs growing at an alarming rate, what can organizations do to meet their established remediation timelines and to protect the organization from cybersecurity threats. Cybersecurity leader Ray Payano will discuss the exponential increase in published vulnerabilities, the lack of resources in cybersecurity to perform remediation and balancing remediation with reduced maintenance windows. These challenges contribute to organizations struggling with remediation backlogs. Ray will explain how calculating vulnerability risk can help organizations prioritize their vulnerabilities based on risk level to help determine the order in which vulnerabilities are addressed. Smitty discusses his struggles with anxiety and some of the eye opening moments in his life that forced a major change that directly led to his success. This leads into a discussion on when we finally felt like we were “successful” in the fitness industry. Lastly, we talk about the downside to calling things “bro science,” and how you can set yourself apart in life by finding the “good” in something rather than taking the easy way out by only seeing the things downsides. Sioux City Mayor Bob Scott called upon the governors of Iowa, Nebraska and South Dakota to prevent Tyson Foods from moving more than 500 jobs out of the tri-state area. The food company will be closing its corporate offices in Dakota Dunes, South Dakota – which borders Sioux City. The large community employer will be consolidating all three of its corporate offices to its headquarters in northwest Arkansas.Scott said Tyson's move will have a terrible impact on the area, resulting in the loss of 580 jobs for the area. He asked the tri-state governors – Iowa Gov. Kim Reynolds, Nebraska Gov. Pete Ricketts and South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem – to step in.“Go see the people at Tyson, write letters, do whatever,” he said at a city council meeting on Monday evening. “But, take the lead on this because they are not going to listen to local communities and it is terribly important that we don't lose those jobs.”Employees at the Dakota Dunes office will have to opt to relocate to the corporate headquarters or accept a severance package. The company's processing plant in Dakota City will not be impacted.Scott said the Sioux City Chamber of Commerce has been unsuccessful in its attempt to get Tyson to reconsider its decision. In a statement to the Sioux City Journal last week, Chamber president Chris McGowan said the organization would work “tirelessly” to assist the impacted employees find new jobs locally.U.S. Representative Randy Feenstra, who represents the 4th Congressional District, also issued a statement last week, urging the company to reconsider their decision to move the office.“This decision is absolutely contrary to the values I share with the Siouxland community, and represents a complete disregard for the employees and families who have been loyal to Tyson for more than two decades,” part of Feenstra's statement read. The relocation process will begin in early 2023, according to Tyson Foods announcement.

EP3: Why is Baptism a Discipleship Issue?

Grace Church Members Podcast

Play Episode Listen Later Jul 15, 2022 23:28

In this episode, Chris Rivers, Scott Mozingo, and Chris McGowan discuss baptism as worship and how it serves as an “ebenezer” for believers to grow in their devotion to God. In the Old Testament, we read of prophets and leaders setting up stone monuments to remind them of God's help and deliverance. Baptism, likewise, is a powerful, public declaration of what Christ has done for us in rescuing us from sin and death and uniting us with himself. Why be baptized? For Christ - Jesus was baptized, and we demonstrate our obedience to him and identify with him when we humble ourselves publicly to follow him. For ourselves - Baptism is an ebenezer, reminding us that we no longer live for ourselves, but for Christ. We can trust him for cleansing, healing, and new life. Just as Christ was resurrected, so will we be. For others - Christianity is communal. When we are baptized in front of witnesses, we acknowledge our need for others and invite them into our spiritual growth. The church is the vehicle through which Christ carries out his mission. Be sure to check out our podcast page at gracechurchsc.org/whydiscipleship. On this page, you can access additional resources and questions to help you move towards discipleship.
