This fifth Wednesday, the Iron Age boys throw a bit of a curveball by taking a look at an obscure fantasy series from the early 1980s! Designed to serve what was perceived as an untapped audience for Marvel and entice toy manufacturers to create a line of licensed tie-in action figures, The Saga of Crystar, Crystal Warrior throws a few curveballs of its own with a somewhat conceptually abstract central conflict and an antagonist who's more of a victim of circumstance than your standard unambiguous bad guy. We discuss the comic, the toys, and the Marvel Universe guest stars (who never again mentioned their adventures on Crystar's planet)!
Josh explains that all Genesis music is bad. Robert only has sub-standards for video games. Chris arm-chair quarterbacks the Persona 3 remake. Not the ramp! The post RPG Cast – Episode 696: “Have You Met Video Game Fans?” appeared first on RPGamer.

A story line created by Marvel, but produced by REMCO, this small line was ahead of the comic book and never made it past 1 series. Do you remember Crystar? Without a cartoon there just wasn't much this line could do in the early 80's.

Comics writer and nicest human being ever, Jo Duffy, joins the Bandits for an audio-only interview. There were a few technical snafus during our conversation, but they couldn't hold back our investigation of the career of one of the pioneering #womenincomics. Duffy started at Marvel in the late 70s and made a name for herself on such titles as Power Man and Iron Fist, Star Wars, and the Saga of Crystar, Crystal Warrior. She even wrote a St. Francis of Assisi biography, before the current pope made the name cool again. We also get into her run on Catwoman, her time at Rob Liefeld's Maximum Press, and working on screenplays for Puppet Master 4 and 5. So what are you waiting for? Press play already!____________________________________Check out and subscribe to YEET Presents on Patreon: patreon.com/yeetmagazine.Email us at dollarbinbandits@gmail.com. Between Control, Astral Chain, Crystar, Ys VIII, and many more, there's just no shortage of games to be playing... and there's still more to come.
Between Control, Astral Chain, Crystar, Ys VIII, and many more, there's just no shortage of games to be playing... and there's still more to come.
An almost full squad this week and plenty to discuss. Yakuza 7 has been shown off, and it's gameplay is a little more strategic than earlier entries. Your September "free" games with PlayStation Plus and Games with Gold are unveiled, and remastered collections of Aladdin, The Lion King, and the Mega Man X/ZX series are on the way. Shovel Knight's Treasure Trove of content grows, Telltale Games is sorta revived, and a patch for the most recent Wolfenstein game may make it more accessible. A new Resident Evil game has been teased, and the leak of a Switch case on Amazon coud hint at Blizzard's next Nintendo title. In Games Played, Richard follows up on last week's Need For Speed mentions with some time in two of it's finest outings, Hot Pursuit I and II. He also plays the Game Boy classic Final Fantasy Adventure through the newly released Mana Collection. Cesar has impressions of Platinum's latest for Nintendo Switch, Astral Chain. His time with The Prince of Persia continues in The Warrior Within, and he outlines the 80's inspired mini games of arcade love letter 198x. PS4 title Crystar has him thinking about the game even while he's away from it, and he gives quick glimpses of homages to Nintendo classics in Legend of the Skyfish as well as Whipseey and the Lost Atlas. Michael and Cesar have impressions of Game of the Year contender Control, and they also share their experiences with decision simulator The Dark Pictures Anthology's first title: Man of Medan. Michael has wrapped up the Dragon Quest XI demo on Switch, and journeyed through RPG's past in Grandia 2 and Horizon Zero Dawn. He got in some Super Smash Bros. Ultimate while on the road, and continues to plug away at Assassin's Creed Odyssey DLC. He dips into Remedy's back catalog with a little Quantum Break, and gets lost in the woods in Blair Witch. ré·su·mé [rez-oo-mey, rez-oo-mey] noun 1. a summing up; summary. 2. a brief written account of personal, educational, and professional qualifications and experience, as that prepared by an applicant for a job. In Comic Reader Résumé, I use Mike's Amazing World of Comics to travel back through time via his virtual newsstand to the genesis point of my lifelong collecting of comics. From there, I can offer a “work history” of my fandom through my active purchasing of (relatively) new comic books beginning in January of 1982, when my interest in the medium went from sporadic and unformed to routine on through compulsive accumulation. To streamline the narrative and keep the subjects at least remotely contemporaneous, I will not generally be discussing what we call back issues: books bought long after their publication date. Sometimes, I will cover a book published on a given month that I picked up within a year or so that date, and I give myself an especially wide berth on this aspect in the first couple of “origins” episodes. We'll get more rigidly on point as my memories crystallize and my “hobby” spirals out of control into the defining characteristic of my life (eventually outpacing squalor and competing neuroses.) It's part personal biography, part industry history, and admittedly totally self-indulgent on my part. This episode includes Captain America #281 & 283, Avengers #231, U.S. 1 #1, G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero #11, Batman #359, Spider-Woman #50, DC Comics' The New Teen Titans in cooperation with The President's Drug Awareness Campaign #2, Power Man and Iron Fist #193, Alpha Flight #1, All-Star Squadron #24, and The Saga of Crystar, Crystal Warrior #3. “Transcripts” February, 1983 March-May, 1983 Twitter #CRRésumé? In a surprise move, I've actually got another podcast ready, and this time it's me and the boss of Facebook Alpha Flight fans, Justin Mohareb, talking about the last ever issue of Cryster, The Crystal Warrior which for some reason has three members of Alpha Flight in (but not the same three as there are on the comic'c cover). Alpha Pod Flight, Copyright 2019 Gareth A Hopkins Alpha Flight cover image borrowed from marvel.wikia.com Alpha Flight and all related characters are copyright Marvel or Disney. Deffo not me, pal. The version of 'Oh Canada!' used in this podcast can be found at this address: www.youtube.com/watch?v=zwDvF0NtgdU Disclaimer: The host of this podcast (Gareth A Hopkins) is a *fan of* the material he talks about and not an *expert on* it. Many of things stated as facts might be pure fabricated bullshit, and will probably reveal said host to be a bit of a bellend. Don't mind him. If you have any comments please email gareth@grthink.com

On Episode 170 of Trick or Treat Radio we go off the rails and over a cliff. Several times. We somehow manage to find time to have a super interesting, fun discussion with Matt O. the director of Bloody Knuckles from Artsploitation Films though!
