In this episode, we go further into the concept of gaslighting, building on the foundation laid in a previous episode. We look at how gaslighting manipulates your internal reality, and how it can cause long term effects, as explored through Anil Seth's theory of consciousness and controlled hallucinations. The question of ‘Who Am I', is examined, because after being in a toxic relationship, your sense of self changes. You begin to loose confidence as your reality gets twisted and manipulated. The episode breaks down Seth's ideas of identity and reality, conceptualized through his explanation of self-continuity, change blindness, and predictive processing. This concept applies to understanding how gaslighting influences our perception of ourselves and reality. Practical advice on recognizing and responding to gaslighting behavior is also provided, empowering you to trust your reality and protect your psychological well-being. When you can trust your reality, you can regain your sense of self, and therefore, your confidence. 00:00 Introduction and Recap 00:33 Understanding Gaslighting and Internal Reality 01:18 Anil Seth's Theory on Consciousness 02:06 Change Blindness and Self-Perception 07:13 Predictive Processing and Sensory Inputs 09:21 Gaslighting in Toxic Relationships 19:05 Recognizing and Responding to Gaslighting 26:12 Protecting Yourself from Gaslighting 28:39 Trusting Yourself and Healing To contact the host or participate on the podcast: www.InnerSourceTherapy.com
