Legend has it that Don Julián Santana Barrera found a doll floating in the canal the day after a young girl drowned. He hung the doll in her memory. He believed the girl's spirit haunted the island, so Barrera hung more dolls to appease her until over 4,000 dolls adorned the island. Did the creepy decorations work? On this episode we are talking about Truk Lagoon, which is said to be haunted since its basically an underwater graveyard where the US launched "Operation Hailstone" a major U.S. attack on one of Japan's main naval bases. Destination Truth did an underwater investigation where they caught numerous evidence of motors running. This underwater graveyard is home to various cargo such as fighter aircrafts, tanks, bulldozers, railroad cars, motorcycles, torpedoes, mines, bombs, boxes of munitions, radios and thousands of other weapons as well as human remains. Dean, Laura and Krysta discuss French colonial Mauritania and the persistent legends of vampires/witches, some who were believed to be able to ingest blood or organs at a distance without causing a wound to the victim. They discuss "Count" Byron Kuhn de Prorok's trip to then Abyssinia (now known as Ethiopia) to a valley near 'Devil's Cave' and the 'Devil Bird' bats who lived there. There is further discussion of Dean's man crush, Josh Gates and his own attempt to locate the Devil Birds on Destination Truth. We visit the interesting vampire reports of Mauritius and visit near modern day Malawi and the reports of vampires there. Finally, they revisit the Catalan vampire Comte Estruch and a sighting of a man that fits his description attempting to get rides from lone travelers on back roads. Finally, they discuss the amount of reported missing people and how many of them are simply never heard of again. So I have two stories, both centered around dolls, and thankfully, I didn’t have to get anywhere near them. But before we dive in, we have some business to attend to. As always, we will be playing our drinking game but remember, the drinking game is only for those of us that are at home and have nowhere else to go to. Since dolls creep me the f%$k out, you get to choose your libations, but I ask that you face your fears, so today’s episode I want you to take shots of whatever alcohol you swore you’d never drink again, for me that’s Tequila. That’s right, pull out your college era sweatshirts and down the Jagger again, because these are two places you will never see Nicole’s happy a** at. Right, now for the game part… every time I say doll that’ll be a single shot and every time I say creepy, that’s a double shot. Alright, now that we have the business end out of the way we can jump headfirst into today’s dark enigma… and creepy doll towns. And our first story is one many of us saw way back when on Destination Truth with Josh Gates: Because in the canals of Xochimilco, Mexico, there's an island covered in mutilated and dismembered dolls. The island is said to be haunted by the spirit of a girl who died in the canals, so enter if you dare. Sometimes when people get into a religious sulk they do things like fly planes into buildings or dress their kids in white and drown them in bleach. So, in the grand scheme of wacko theological attention-seeking, when Don Julian was run out of the barrios for preaching to venerate Christ by decorating a secluded island with creepy dolls, he was actually being pretty reasonable.

(You know the Paranormal episode was better than the previous episodes - Joe's comment was "I can do it on my own, but it is definitely more fun with someone else.) So, having only put out 5 episodes up to this point, but there has absolutely been an increase in the number of listeners out there, all we can say is: "Thank you, you are all awesome. We even have our first review on iTunes. Thanks to the listener, Lynn, for the 5 star rating and super funny review. I hope the camping trip goes well for you. And, thanks again, to all of you listeners out there for spreading the word. I even have my first couple of followers on twitter. Congratulations and thank you to Kyle Bush for preventing Brad from winning the last NASCAR race and picking up his third win of the season. And the Twins are really doing well. I think the world, and especially America, has an unhealthy fascination with celebrities. We tend to put them on pedestals, and worship at their feet. However, Joe and Scottie do not. Celebrities are just people, sometimes extremely talented people, but still just people. There are times we can get glimpses into the true characters of celebrities. For instance when sports figures get arrested for different offenses - such as prostitutes on a lake cruise, or drugging and raping women. But there are other celebrities that have shown excellent character traits off the screen. Keanu Reeves, for instance, has a private cancer foundation to help children's hospitals and cancer research. I am not here to talk about him, no matter what a great guy he is. My first question of the day is: If you could have dinner, just dinner, with a celebrity, who would it be and why? I limit my list to 5. Joe's list begins "Jay Leno and Tim Allen top my list if for no other reason than we can talk cars, and the humor would be fantastic. Josh Gates, from Expedition Unknown and Destination Truth, takes the third spot with his humor and stories of his travels that never made it to the screen. (As long as Joe gets to pick the dinner, no crickets for him, thanks though.) Jack Johnson, and of course, Adam Carolla the king of podcasts, round out Joe's list. Scott's picks Richard Rawlins from Fast & Loud, Dale Jr from NASCAR, Avenged Seven Fold, and Slip Knot. Ad time, Apparently Home Robotics Inc. got a touch cranky about our repeated mentions of a different robotic company last week, and announced plans to launch their own sex bot kit. You will need a vacuum cleaner motor, although their first thought was a motor from Harley Davidson, but decided against it for a variety of very good reasons. They are claiming that bot will really suck. For the second question of the day, if you could have a laminated list of celebrities that you would be allowed to sleep with, even though you are in a relationship - who would be on that list? When Joe was younger, ummm, much younger and the X-Files was new, he really had a thing for Gillian Anderson, the actress who played agent Scully. One night she was on Letterman, or was it late night with Jay Leno. . . I guess it really doesn't matter. She was on an interview, maybe she was having a bad night, or something, but she just came across as an airhead - instant boner loss. And, not just for her, but pretty much every female celebrity. There are still a couple of extremely attractive looking lady celebrities out there. First on Joe's list Scarlett Johansson. And second on his list is Kristen Lumen the redheaded lady from Ghost Mine. And that is all he could come up with. Scott also could only come up with two for his laminated list: Lena Scissorhands - lead singer from Infected Rain, Alice Eve actress from She's Out of My League. This Week, Cryptozoologist Jonathon David Whitcomb joins the guys to discuss some flying cryptids. About the Guest: http://www.jonathanwhitcomb.com/ Since his expedition in Papua New Guinea in 2004, Whitcomb has received many emails and occasional phone calls from ordinary persons who have seen extraordinary animals: apparent pterosaurs. On August 18, 2008, he received a phone call from a man in England, a plane pilot who recently had a near-collision with a large creature flying 6500 feet above the sea, 150 miles from Bali, Indonesia. After email interviews with the pilot and copilot, Whitcomb did not come to any firm conclusion about the creature except that they might have witnessed a giant ropen, a long-tailed flying creature often witnessed in Papua New Guinea. Few cryptozoologists have any significant experience with eyewitness testimonies of the ropen. Whitcomb is one of the few: a modern pterosaur expert. Since early 2004, he has written over one thousand blog posts and countless other web pages on living pterosaurs: mostly analysis of eyewitness reports, replies to critics, and answers to common questions. He has also written three nonfiction books and a paper in a peer-reviewed journal of science. Although most of his web pages are in English, a few are in Spanish, French, German, Japanese, and Hungarian. Direct eyewitness reports have come from Australia, Africa, Europe, North America, and islands of the southwest Pacific; he has also encountered indirect reports including some from South America. He has been on broadcast radio talk shows and was interviewed by a Polish cryptozoological society editor. He was consulted by both the Destination Truth and MonsterQuest production teams before their expeditions in Papua New Guinea.
