According to Black and Missing Foundation, 40% of missing persons cases are people of color. The Amber Alert system was created to help find missing children, but is it doing enough for Black and brown youth? Pennsylvania State Reps. Carol Kazeem and Gina H. Curry have proposed a bill to implement an Ebony Alert system, similar to ones in other states, that would send alerts about missing children of color. Black women and girls make up a disproportionate number of the nation's missing people, almost one in five. Here in Massachusetts, there are few protocols on tracking these cases, and that number is harder to determine. Now, a new bill on Beacon Hill seeks to shine a light on how missing persons cases involving Black women and girls are handled, including instituting an "Ebony Alert" system, which would provide public alerts when Black women or girls are reported missing under suspicious circumstances. In today's episode of the Tactical Living Podcast, we're diving deep into California's latest move to tackle the crisis of missing Black children: The Ebony Alert. But, is this new alert system a step forward in bridging racial disparities or does it inadvertently fuel the flames of racism?   Understanding the Ebony Alert: California Governor Gavin Newsom has recently signed the Senate Bill 673, introducing the nation's first Ebony Alert. Drawing parallels with the Amber Alert, this new system specifically prioritizes the search for missing Black youth and young adults.   Amber Alert's Origin: Many are raising eyebrows over the name "Ebony Alert." It's important to remember that the Amber Alert was named after Amber Hagerman, a young girl abducted and murdered in Texas, not the color of her skin. This raises a pertinent question: Are we unintentionally racializing a system designed to protect the vulnerable?   Stark Statistics: The National Crime Information Center reported about 141,000 missing Black children in 2022. Moreover, while Black individuals constituted 38% of the missing persons in 2022, their stories seldom make headlines, leading to prolonged and unresolved investigations.   Addressing the Real Issue: While the Ebony Alert's intention—to address the disproportionality in media attention and resources— is noble, is creating a separate alert system the right approach? Or should the focus be on reforming and broadening the existing systems to ensure equity?   Future Implications: With the Ebony Alert slated to be in effect from Jan. 1, it will be crucial to monitor its impact. It's been nearly two weeks since a woman died in one of Customs and Border Protection's makeshift migrant camps, and humanitarian workers on the ground say conditions haven't improved. In other news, California is the first state to create an Ebony Alert system to help find missing black teens and young adults. Plus, a new program to secure long-term treatment for individuals with untreated schizophrenia or other psychotic disorders is up and running in San Diego County.

It's called the Ebony Alert and is for those between the ages of 12 and 25, including those who are runaways and victims of human trafficking, whereas the Amber Alert is only for children under the age of 18 and is not used if someone is classified as a runaway.

This is the first emergency service to prioritize response based on race. US House report indicates 99% of illegal immigrants encountered since 2021 have not been deported, and contact has been lost with the overwhelming majority.-Analyst Comments-Information warfare abounds following various atrocities of war, many of which cannot independently be verified. Caution must be exercised in the information space as all sides in the current conflict have long histories of narrative shaping. Outside the immediate warzone, tensions will continue to grow as both sides demonize any attempt at neutrality. Many US politicians and pundits have shared uncorroborated stories, old videos, and completely false information on social media, with no concern for verifying most of the information they are repeating. Due to the Illusory Truth Effect, it will become increasingly difficult to discern the truth as time goes on.Extremely serious and concerning rhetoric runs rampant on social media; everything from chemical to nuclear weapons has been openly discussed by high ranking political officials on all sides of the conflict. The question remains as to how much of this rhetoric will be backed up with action. The use of White Phosphorus munitions by IDF is highly likely, as video evidence all but confirms this munition's use. Israel's National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir announced Tuesday that 10,000 assault rifles are being purchased and distributed to civilian security teams in communities along the country's borders. With a similar concept to the Amber Alert, an Ebony Alert gives particular emergency focus to the disproportionate disappearances of Black women and girls in the state. 4.17.2023 #RolandMartinUnfiltered: Jayland Walker No Charges, AL Sweet 16 Shooting, MO Ralph Paul Yarl Shooting  An Ohio grand jury ruled the eight officers involved in the shooting death of 25-year-old Jayland Walker last summer will not face charges. Protesters in Kansas City, Missouri, filling the streets after a black honor student and talented musician, Ralph Paul Yarl, was shot by a white homeowner as he went to the wrong house to pick up his siblings.  The family's attorney, Ben Crump, will give us an update.  California State senator introduces a bill to help identify and find missing black people.  We will speak with the lawmaker behind the proposed Ebony Alert bill to assist law enforcement agencies in prioritizing missing people in our communities.  In Texas, a black woman is sentenced to prison for voting.  Tomorrow, her case goes before the second Court of Appeals in Fort Worth.  Crystal Mason's attorney will update us on the case and tell us what she hopes to come out of tomorrow's hearing.  We will follow another story out of Texas involving a Texas school district investigating one of its teachers for allegedly making a black student portray an enslaved person during class.  It's Time to Bring the Funk on Roland Martin Unfiltered streaming live on the Black Star Network.  Let's go.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
