School choice continues to spark debate across the country, and Kentucky, as one of only two states without any form of school choice, stands at the center of it. Last year, voters rejected a measure aimed at expanding educational options, largely due to claims that such policies would harm public schools. But is that really the case? This week, we're joined by Greg Brock, Senior Advisor at the Federation for Children, to discuss what's at stake and why his organization is working to pass the Educational Choice for Children Act at the federal level. Is it time for parents to get their children out of government run schools that teach them values that are the contrary to what is taught at home? This is the hot topic that is raging across the country that we discuss on this week's episode of CURE America with Star Parker. Ninety percent of the nation's K-12 students attend public schools. Over the last years, as parents became more aware of what is being taught to their children, a new movement has been awakened and parents are not only challenging what is being taught to their children, but are looking for policy solutions that would allow money to follow children to the school's parents want. Whether it is Critical Race Theory, transgenderism and sex education, or other value systems that contradict traditional values on race, marriage, family and life, the union-controlled education system is being challenged. In this episode, we learn from our special guest, Corey DeAngelis of the American Federation for Children and our panelists Jonathan Alexandre of Liberty Counsel Action, Terry Jeffrey of CNSNews.com and Andrew Handel of the American Legislative Exchange Council, that there are alternatives to public schools. This year, four states have already passed Education Savings Accounts and many more are considering options for dollars to fund students, not systems. Yes, it is past time for parents to take full responsibility for their children's future - and demand that they have the freedom and the money to select a school for their child that teaches their values and worldview, the school of their choice.

For too long, your child's educational quality has been determined by which Democrat money laundering scheme (teacher's union) is planted near your home. Parents were forced to comply with woke, incompetent educators or pay for a private education that could cost tens of thousands of dollars a year. For wealthy families, this wasn't a problem. The same wasn't true for middle-class Americans. This was until the School Choice revolution. Parents saw what their children were learning during the COVID pandemic and said this simply wasn't good enough. Republican politicians saw this energy and quickly capitalized to take the governor's mansion in Virginia and school boards across the country. Education matters to parents and they are willing to vote, organize, and raise funds to give their children the best education possible. On an exciting episode of the Sara Carter Show, Sara is joined by Dr. Corey A. John Schilling, a senior advisor for the nonprofit Invest in Education, joins Paul E. Peterson to discuss the Educational Choice for Children Act that is currently being debated in Congress.
This month, Alabama became the most recent state to increase education options for students through Education Savings Accounts. Alabama's CHOOSE Act gives families access to up to $7,000 per child to use at participating private schools or for other education expenses. Families who homeschool may receive up to $2,000. Low-income students have first priority, with eligibility expanding to all children by the 2027-28 school year. Finding the right fit for their children's education is increasingly important to families. According to nationwide polling, seventy-one percent of voters say parents should “have the right to use tax dollars designated for their child's education to send their child to the public or private school which best serves their needs.” Counting Alabama, eleven states now have universal or near-universal school choice laws. Different educational environments help students learn in the ways that are most beneficial for them. Oregon should give parents the power to choose the best education options for their students, so every child has a chance for an effective and motivating school experience. --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/coffeewithcascade/message

Peter Murphy and the group he represents called Invest In Education believes that school choice is something that is beneficial to all children. The Educational Choice for Children Act (ECCA), a federal piece of legislation he is working hard to advance, is a $10 billion scholarship tax credit to expand educational freedom and opportunity for up to two million students throughout the nation.Under the bill, individuals and businesses contribute to non-profit scholarship granting organizations who make scholarship awards for tuition, tutoring to address learning loss, special needs services, and education technology among other uses.Scholarships are funded with private donations, not federal money, and donors receive a federal tax credit. The ECCA respects federalism, protects religious liberty, and ensures private school autonomy.I am honored to chat with Peter today on the show.Support the show

Families have more freedom in education than ever before, thanks in part to increased parental demand for K12 opportunities since the pandemic. In state after state, legislation has passed to expand educational options. While there has been significant momentum, the groundwork for reform was laid long ago, starting with the vision of Milton and Rose Friedman. The Friedmans broke the mold of the traditional school model by proposing the concept of school choice in 1955. Nearly 70 years later, their revolutionary idea has become embedded in the education landscape, with more than half of the U.S. now having some form of educational choice. Robert Enlow is our guest on this episode of Voices of Freedom. Since 1996, he has been dedicated to carrying out the Friedmans' core belief that more education freedom creates greater opportunity for children. Topics Discussed Evolution of education freedom, starting with the Friedmans' vision Impact of school choice on underperforming schools Influence of parents on education freedom Legislative landscape of choice: opportunities and obstacles How to effectively implement education freedom legislation once it's passed U.S. Supreme Court's decision in Espinoza v. Montana How the Friedmans would view the state of education today Enlow is the president and CEO of EdChoice. Before its formation in 2016, he was an integral part of the Milton and Rose Friedman Foundation for Educational Choice, serving as fundraiser, projects coordinator, vice president and executive director, prior to being named president and CEO in 2009.
On today's show, Former CEO of Overstock.com and election expert, Patrick Byrne, joins the Joe Hoft Show to discuss the 2020 Election and the DOJ's case against President Trump. Byrne's remarks provide assurances that the DC case against President Trump is sure to fail based on his interactions with President Trump in the White House in December 2020. GUEST OVERVIEW: In 1999, Patrick M. Byrne launched Overstock.com, which achieved its first profitable quarter in 2002 and its first full year of profitability in 2009. In 2016, Overstock.com had revenues of $1.8 billion and its seventh out of eight straight years of profitability. In 2012, when no firm of $1 million in revenue yet accepted bitcoin as a payment method, Byrne's pro-freedom political orientation led him to decide that Overstock.com, then with $1.4 billion in revenue, should accept the digital currency. Having gained familiarity with blockchain technology at the heart of digital currencies such as bitcoin, Byrne created Medici Ventures, a subsidiary within Overstock.com building blockchain-based financial technology solutions. In 2015, Byrne used Medici's t0.com securities trading platform to become the first person to purchase a digital bond entirely on the bitcoin blockchain. Byrne made history again in Dec 2016, when Overstock.com issued the first shares ever traded on an alternative trading system (ATS) utilizing distributed ledger technology. A “classical liberal,” Byrne believes that our nation's success depends on education and capital markets. Starting with Milton Friedman's passing in 2006, Byrne served as chairman of the Friedman Foundation for Educational Choice (now “EdChoice”), an organization leading the national push for school choice.
Unfortunately, even with $2 billion in additional funding for traditional K-12 education, the Democratic majority in Nevada's legislature couldn't be bothered to throw a few scraps toward educational choice programs. Valeria Gurr, with the American Federation for Children, joined the program to discuss what we can learn from the 2023 legislative session … as well as what it will take for Nevada to (finally) join the growing number of states that offer families a choice of educational options.
Milton Friedman (July 31, 1912 – November 16, 2006) was an American economist and statistician who received the 1976 Nobel Memorial Prize in Economic Sciences for his research on consumption analysis, monetary history and theory and the complexity of stabilization policy. With George Stigler, Friedman was among the intellectual leaders of the Chicago school of economics, a neoclassical school of economic thought associated with the work of the faculty at the University of Chicago that rejected Keynesianism in favor of monetarism until the mid-1970s, when it turned to new classical macroeconomics heavily based on the concept of rational expectations. Several students, young professors and academics who were recruited or mentored by Friedman at Chicago went on to become leading economists, including Gary Becker, Robert Fogel, Thomas Sowell and Robert Lucas Jr. Friedman's challenges to what he called "naive Keynesian theory" began with his interpretation of consumption, which tracks how consumers spend. He introduced a theory which would later become part of mainstream economics and among the first to propagate the theory of consumption smoothing. During the 1960s, he became the main advocate opposing Keynesian government policies, and described his approach (along with mainstream economics) as using "Keynesian language and apparatus" yet rejecting its initial conclusions. He theorized that there existed a natural rate of unemployment and argued that unemployment below this rate would cause inflation to accelerate. He argued that the Phillips curve was in the long run vertical at the "natural rate" and predicted what would come to be known as stagflation. Friedman promoted a macroeconomic viewpoint known as monetarism and argued that a steady, small expansion of the money supply was the preferred policy, as compared to rapid, and unexpected changes. His ideas concerning monetary policy, taxation, privatization and deregulation influenced government policies, especially during the 1980s. His monetary theory influenced the Federal Reserve's monetary policy in response to the global financial crisis of 2007–2008. After retiring from the University of Chicago in 1977, and becoming Emeritus professor in economics in 1983, Friedman served as an advisor to Republican U.S. President Ronald Reagan and Conservative British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher. His political philosophy extolled the virtues of a free market economic system with minimal government intervention in social matters. He once stated that his role in eliminating conscription in the United States was his proudest achievement. In his 1962 book Capitalism and Freedom, Friedman advocated policies such as a volunteer military, freely floating exchange rates, abolition of medical licenses, a negative income tax, school vouchers and opposition to the war on drugs and support for drug liberalization policies. His support for school choice led him to found the Friedman Foundation for Educational Choice, later renamed EdChoice. Friedman's works cover a broad range of economic topics and public policy issues. His books and essays have had global influence, including in former communist states. A 2011 survey of economists commissioned by the EJW ranked Friedman as the second-most popular economist of the 20th century, following only John Maynard Keynes. Upon his death, The Economist described him as "the most influential economist of the second half of the 20th century ... possibly of all of it". Sponsor of S.B. 11 Ohio's Educational Choice for All Bill discusses the details with OCA President Chris Long State Senator Sandra O'Brien (District 32) introduced Senate Bill 11, the Parent Educational Freedom Act. S.B. 11 would expand the current EdChoice Scholarship program to give eligibility to all students in the state of Ohio and would expand the current homeschool tax credit from $250 to $2,000. The newly expanded EdChoice Scholarship would provide $5,500 for students in grades K-8 and $7,500 for students in grades 9-12. This money can be used at any public, community, or chartered non-public school in Ohio. “Now more than ever, parents understand the importance of having options when it comes to their children's education. The Parent Educational Freedom Act empowers our parents, encourages healthy competition, and makes Ohio an even better state to raise a family,” O'Brien said. “Every parent has the right to choose a school that best meets their student's needs, and I look forward to this bill allowing Ohio's parents to make those choices.” ACTION ITEM: S.B. 11 is scheduled for proponent testimony in the Senate Education Committee on Tuesday, February 21st. We live in a time where authority and responsibility are being overtly and covertly taken away from parents and individuals. Families are being replaced by government agencies and/or bureaucracies. This is an attack on the biblical and constitutional concept of individual liberty and responsibility. We saw it with COVID, yet, the greater threats are in areas like education and raising children that government rules, regulations, and deceptions continue to pressure parents and families to give over their responsibility to so-called “experts.” The solution is to assert anew one's personal, parental authority and responsibility to raise and educate our children morally and ethically as defined biblically moral and ethical. The solution is to make sure the political environment respects or at least offers such a choice. Remember, there are two kinds of fire in the world: One that burns and consumes and one that burns and empowers. May God's word and God's love burn brightly in you, giving you the strength to face any fire. Until next time, little embers! Ninety percent of the nation's K-12 students attend public schools. Over the last year, as parents became more aware of what was being taught to their children, a new movement has been awakened and parents are not only challenging what is being taught to their children but are looking for policy solutions that would allow money to follow children to the school's parents want. Is it time for educational choice?

The late Milton Friedman once wrote, "The tragedy, and irony, is that a system dedicated to enabling all children to acquire a common language and the values of U.S. citizenship, to giving all children equal educational opportunity, should in practice exacerbate the stratification of society and provide highly unequal educational opportunity." This week's guest on Episode 9 of Reality Check with Jeanne Allen is Robert Enlow, the president of EdChoice, which was founded two decades ago as the Milton and Rose Friedman Foundation for Educational Choice. Enlow, once a man of the left, now devotes his life to making Friedman's vision of equal educational opportunity for all a reality.

Rhetoric can’t hide a failure to address inequality
In June 2016, the Friedman Foundation for Educational Choice released "Why Parents Choose," a survey of more than 2,000 Indiana private school and school choice parents on Tuesday. Indiana is home to the nation’s fastest-growing school choice program and the largest voucher program in the United States. The survey found that a large majority of choice parents are satisfied with their new schools and were easily able to find a suitable private school that participates in the state’s voucher or tax-credit scholarship program. Additionally, parents reported becoming more engaged in their schools and communities after they chose a private school. Friedman Foundation president and CEO Robert Enlow discussed the report at a media roundtable in Indianapolis.
On May 18, 2016, the Friedman Foundation for Educational Choice today released the fourth edition of its seminal report, A Win-Win Solution: The Empirical Evidence on School Choice. Authored by Friedman Fellow Dr. Greg Forster, the report analyzes 100 empirical studies about the effects of educational choice programs, including two studies released earlier this year showing negative effects from a voucher program in Louisiana. Friedman Foundation President and CEO Robert C. Enlow joined Dr. Forster for a media call to discuss the report and its findings.
Indiana is widely considered to have the nation's most extensive school choice initiative, and schoolchoiceweek.com indicates 165 events to mark the week will be held around the state. Guests: Communications Director, Tosha Salyers from the Institute for Quality Education and Robert Enlow of the Friedman Foundation for Educational Choice.

May 17th, 2014 marked the 60th Anniversary of Brown v. Board of Education, the landmark Supreme Court Decision that held state laws establishing separate public schools for black and white students as unconstitutional because they violate the Equal Protection Clause of the 14th Amendment. Today, some six decades later, many parents and teachers are still worried that America's children are not receiving equal access to education envisioned in that case. On this episode of Lawyer 2 Lawyer, hosts Bob Ambrogi and J. Craig Williams shed light on this issue with guests Christian D'Andrea from the MacIver Institute and Kyle Serrette from The Center for Popular Democracy. Together they discuss private schools, charter schools, and homeschooling vs. the community school model. Tune in to learn more about funding concerns, oversight issues, and the proper role of teachers unions in the school choice debate. Christian D'Andrea is an Education Policy Analyst with the John K. MacIver Institute for Public Policy in Madison, WI. He earned his Master's of Public Policy degree at Vanderbilt University and has previously worked for the Friedman Foundation for Educational Choice as a State Policy Director and Policy Analyst. He is the author of several studies that examine the fiscal and personal impacts of educational reform, and his work has been featured everywhere from the Huffington Post to EducationNext.
