The International Rose Test Garden in Portland, Oregon is a rose-lover's paradise: there's over 10,000 bushes and 625 varieties from all over the world. And there's a great story about how the garden came to be: During WWI, the people of Portland reached out to the gardeners of Europe offering to take care of their plants and save them from destruction. Rachel Burlington, the garden's curator, wanted to learn more about this, so she started digging into the archives and made a surprising discovery: It wasn't… quite… true. Rachel tells us what she's learned about the garden's origins, and the battle between West Coast cities to be “The City of Roses.”  Learn more about the Portland International Rose Test Garden: https://www.portland.gov/parks/washington-park-international-rose-test-garden Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. Engage with scripture readings, heartfelt devotionals, and collective prayers that draw you into the heart of God's love. Embark on this year-long voyage through the Bible, and let each day's passage uplift and inspire you. TODAY'S EPISODE: Welcome to the Daily Radio Bible! In today's episode, “September 16th, 2025,” host Hunter invites us to gather around the Scriptures and discover what God is saying to us on day 260 of our journey. We'll explore detailed visions of the temple in Ezekiel 40 and 41, the blessings of Psalm 128, and the promise of a new heaven and new earth in Revelation 21. Hunter walks us through these passages as our Bible reading coach, highlighting how the temple—once the epicenter of sacrifice and divine presence—is ultimately eclipsed by Jesus, the true source of life, light, and hope. Heather joins to share a personal reflection on change, using a story about Portland's migrating swifts as a reminder of God's enduring faithfulness amidst life's transitions. Together, we close with heartfelt prayers and encouragement to embrace the new seasons God brings. Settle in as we warm our hearts by the fires of God's love, and remember—no matter what changes, you are loved. TODAY'S DEVOTION: The story of sacrifice is no more. That's what stands out in today's readings—a whole narrative built around altars, offerings, and a temple, with its Most Holy Place, fades away. In Ezekiel, we see exact measurements for the place where heaven and earth would meet, the space where God would, by design, invite broken humanity into his holy presence through sacrifice. The temple stood as the epicenter of Israel's worship and God's bridge to his people. Every room, every altar, every detail pointed forward, always and only ever pointing us to him—the Lamb. But in Revelation, John sees something altogether new. The story changes. There is no more temple, because there is no more need for it: “I saw no temple in the city, for the Lord God Almighty and the Lamb are its temple.” Even the sun and the moon, those keepers of time, are no more. All that once gave structure and symbol to history has been eclipsed. Darkness, suffering, and death are gone. The instruments of sacrifice have given way to the fullness of what they pointed towards—Jesus himself. What remains? Life. The Lamb's Book of Life. Jesus, the Lamb, has brought history to its completion. All stories are now dissolved into his, and only he remains, shining brighter than the sun, illuminating the city, and infusing every moment with the glory of God. The story of God's unfailing love has reached its apex, and you have been woven into that story. Your name, written in his book, means you share his eternal life and light. So now, we are called to live in that light, to abide in him, to let his life become ours. All other stories fall away. The seasons change. The world shifts around us. But here is something that endures, unchanging: you are written into the very life of Christ. The Lamb is your temple. The Lamb is your life. That's a prayer I have for my own soul. That's a prayer I have for my family, for my wife, my daughters, my son. And that's a prayer I have for you. May it be so. TODAY'S PRAYERS: Lord God Almighty and everlasting father you have brought us in safety to this new day preserve us with your Mighty power that we might not fall into sin or be overcome by adversity. And in all we do, direct us to the fulfilling of your purpose  through Jesus Christ Our Lord amen.   Oh God you have made of one blood all the peoples of the earth and sent your blessed son to preach peace to those who are far and those who are near. Grant that people everywhere may seek after you, and find you. Bring the nations into your fold, pour out your Spirit on all flesh, and hasten the coming of your kingdom through Jesus Christ our Lord, Amen.   And now Lord,  make me an instrument of your peace.  Where there is hatred let me sow love. Where there is injury, pardon.  Where there is doubt, faith. Where there is despair, hope.  Where there is darkness, light.  And where there is sadness,  Joy.  Oh Lord grant that I might not seek to be consoled as to console. To be understood as to understand, to be loved as to love.  For it is in the giving that we receive, in the pardoning that we are pardoned, it is in the dying that we are born unto eternal life.  Amen And now as our Lord has taught us we are bold to pray... Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven, give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our tresspasses as we forgive those who trespass against us, and lead us not unto temptation, but deliver us from evil, for thine is the Kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen. Loving God, we give you thanks for restoring us in your image. And nourishing us with spiritual food, now send us forth as forgiven people, healed and renewed, that we may proclaim your love to the world, and continue in the risen life of Christ.  Amen.  OUR WEBSITE: www.dailyradiobible.com We are reading through the New Living Translation.   Leave us a voicemail HERE: https://www.speakpipe.com/dailyradiobible Subscribe to us at YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@Dailyradiobible/featured OTHER PODCASTS: Listen with Apple Podcast DAILY BIBLE FOR KIDS DAILY PSALMS DAILY PROVERBS DAILY LECTIONARY DAILY CHRONOLOGICAL

Susie DeTitta was born in California in 1965 and adopted at three months old by a family unable to have children due to infertility. Her parents had previously adopted two other children. Shortly after her adoption, the family relocated to Arizona, where Susie spent her childhood and later attended university. While in college, a spontaneous call with a friend to the adoption agency proved to be a dead end in her search for her biological roots. Years later, after moving to Portland, Oregon, a letter from the same agency reignited her curiosity—this time, it seemed someone might be looking for her. That intuition proved true: within months, Susie was reunited with her biological family. This marked the beginning of a 35-year journey of connection, discovery, and relationship- building. Throughout it all, Susie has maintained strong ties with both her adoptive and biological families, weaving together a rich and meaningful tapestry of identity—while continuing her personal search for belonging between two separate worlds and within herself. “When trauma is our teacher, we are ill-equipped to live healthy lives in healthy environments. What we learn, we live.” We know that trauma often accompanies children when they enter the child welfare system. Usually, we talk about the effects of trauma and how caregivers can respond with support. Today, we're looking at trauma through the lens of personal history to understand how individuals can discover, address, and heal the trauma in their own stories. Joining us to offer insights on “Story-Informed Trauma Therapy” (SITT), the method he created, is Byron Kehler. Byron is a Trauma Therapist with a private practice in Portland, Oregon. He's here to help us understand the stories that lie behind hard behaviors and explore how we can respond with compassion, wisdom, and hope. In this episode, you'll hear how best to help children while keeping their stories in mind, the power of helping children who have endured trauma maintain a sense of control, why our pasts can have such a big influence on our patterns today, and much more. He gives his take on everything from ETFs versus traditional funds to crypto and much more.    — Paula Pant is the host of "Afford Anything," one of the most influential podcasts in the financial world. She talks about how inflation has impacted people's mindset on what they can afford — and why it shouldn't change your thinking if you have spending in the right place — but also has a unique perspective on America's housing affordability crisis and how consumers should respond to the problem.    — Jessie Jimenez is the founder of Cashtoons.com, where she produces short animated films that cover the investment and money-management basics, but which also get into topics like managing your flexible-spending account or calculating your retirement budget to hone in on a savings target.    — Kanwal Sarai of the Simply Investing Dividends podcast discusses his obsession with dividend-paying stocks, his criteria for buying and selling them — because he is more active in selling than many long-term dividend buyers — and more.    — Joe Saul-Sehy, host of the Stacking Benjamins podcast, puts a bow on the FinCon interviews — as he has done in each of the last three years — talking about the good and bad he sees among content creators in the financial space, the worst interview he has ever done and what makes for good financial talk.

Plus, we cover the Top 3 Things You Need to Know. Police arrested a 22-year-old man in Utah for the murder of Charlie Kirk. Tyler Robinson was apparently turned in by a family member who said he had confessed to the murder. The wife of former Senator Bob Menendez has been sentenced to four years in jail. The former Democrat Senator from New Jersey was convicted of bribery. Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer said he would shut down the government by the end of the month if Republicans don't give into Democrat demands on healthcare. 12:30 Performlyte helps you recover and boost your energy. We ask American Mamas Teri Netteriville if there is any political figure she's been impressed with for how they've reacted to Charlie Kirk's assassination. Teri points to Utah Governor Spencer Cox's measured, compassionate response. If you'd to ask our American Mamas a question, go to our website, AmericanGroundRadio.com/mamas and click on the Ask the Mamas button. 23:00 We react to Nancy Pelosi's comments following the assassination of conservative leader Charlie Kirk. Have years of heated political rhetoric—from labeling Trump supporters as "fascists" to incidents like Maxine Waters' calls for assault and Kathy Griffin's infamous stunt—normalized hostility toward conservatives? And we Dig Deep into where President Trump is considering deploying the National Guard next. Memphis, New Orleans, St. Louis, and Portland have been suggested due to their crime rates and possible ties to Antifa, but where would Trump's strategies to reduce crime see the most success? 32:30 Save 20% on Protovit. We discuss the balance between free speech and workplace responsibility. Plus, it's Fake New Friday. 40:30 A Cincinnati sports arena has now banned a food vendor who made social media posts celebrating that conservative activist Charlie Kirk was assassinated. Is this more cancel culture? Or is this about more? And we finish off with some words of wisdom about empathy that will make you say, "Whoa." Korby finds Gamble at a doorway to the Vezda prison and the Enterprise goes to rescue him. This is a trap to lure out M'Benga, as he and Gamble need to be together to open the doorway. Well, Brian couldn't make it this time but we are fortunate to have a new member of the Pizza Yodi pantheon, Leo Spizzirri, the Director of Education at Pizza University, and a certified master teacher extraordinaire (aka Maestro) who is recognized throughout the world. In this episode, John tells us about his upcoming trip to Naples for a ceremony in recognition of the top 50 global pizzerias (including 10 from the USA), and shares his own thoughts on some who did and didn't make the list, as well as those who he values as the national treasures of the American pizza universe. I had such a great night in my former home town of Portland recently playing this late summer set at The Get Down for BRÜT. Feeling post-Burning Man inspired, I delivered a set that's truly emblematic of where my sound is heading these days. (more similar to what you heard in my PTown/Gifford House set back in July)Learning the art of opening takes years and the first hour of this set is a true warm-up to welcome the crowd and slowly start filling the dance floor. DJ's should never start the night at an 11 and I have great honor & respect for the slow build and the long journey; music that weaves and tells a story over the course of the night. You'll hear a transition about an hour in when the crowd starts to usher in and the night really begins. From there on out, it's 90-minutes of tech house heaven.I've been going a bit acapella crazy recently and this night was no exception. I had a lot of fun playing several tracks for the first time including Adam Ten's "Just Kidding" (layering Shawnee Taylor's "Live Your Life" vocals over), N2N's new track "Naked," Vinter's "Space Pump," BLOND:ISH's new "Don't Cha" remix from The Pussycat Dolls, and my friend Simon Harrison's new original "Find Me On The Dance Floor" (also with a special acapella layered over!)I hope you enjoy this set... please repost, share, and say something in the comments if you do!

"The point of my book and the point of this big day of action that we're doing across the country is to drive that notion away that this isn't alternative energy, that it's the obvious, straightforward, common sense and very beautiful way to power the world going forward. To use the analogy I've been using, it's not any longer the Whole Foods of energy: nice, but pricey. It is now the Costco of energy: cheap available in bulk on the shelf, ready to go," says Bill McKibben, author of Here Comes the Sun.Today we have Bill McKibben, author, at last count, of 447 books, including his latest Here Comes the Sun: A Last Chance for the Climate and a Fresh Chance for Civilization. It's published by Norton and if ever there was an American president open to the idea of non-fossil-fuel energy solutions, it's this one.Photosynthesize, baby, photosynthesize, just rolls off the tongue. So if you're a real drip and don't know who Bill McKibben is, let me tell you a thing or two: He's the author 19 books, including his pioneering book on climate called The End of Nature, and one of my favorite books on rethinking consumerism, Hundred Dollar Holiday. Aside from being a journalist basically his entire life, he's an activist who helped found 350.org, and Third Act, which is a movement of Americans over 60 who bring their collective power to the climate and democracy fights. We call them silver-haired ponytails here in Eugene. And his latest venture is SunDay, a creative climate project that celebrates solar energy through art, storytelling, and public engagement. The day of action is Sunday, September 21, whereby they'll celebrate solar, host e-bike parades, give heat pump tours, and rally for change. There's a SunDay event in Eugene, but I'll unfortunately be burning fossil fuels that day driving up to Portland for a book event. But visit sunday.earth to find a local event near you. Those solar panel subsidies are going bye bye since the wannabe fuhrer will be gutting anything that doesn't belch CO2 into the air.Bill also writes the incredibly popular Substack The Crucial Years, which has nearly 100,000 subscribers. You can learn more about Bill and his books at billmckibben.com, and you're about to learn more about how he told William Shawn to fuck off, his start as a sports writer, being a pioneer writing about climate, and how he wrote Here Comes the Sun in about one month.Order The Front RunnerNewsletter: Rage Against the AlgorithmWelcome to Pitch ClubShow notes: brendanomeara.com

The assassination of Charlie Kirk, a close ally of President Donald Trump, conservative political activist, and founder of Turning Point USA, has sent shockwaves throughout the entire country. As of Thursday, Sept. 11, Kirk's killer is still at large. Authorities still do not know who the shooter is and what their motivations were, but that hasn't stopped the formation of a thunderous chorus of powerful people across the right and far-right spectrum calling for retribution, from President Trump and Elon Musk to far-right influencers like Chaya Raichik and Laura Loomer. What will the societal fallout be from this high-profile assassination? Will the public murder of Kirk unleash a new wave of political repression? What possibilities should people be prepared for? The new school year means that once again some kids are walking or biking through neighborhoods and on busy streets to get to class. Safe Routes to School is a nationwide, federally funded initiative that works to educate and encourage students to bike and walk to school safely. There are Safe Routes to School programs across Oregon, including one serving students in the Salem-Keizer School District.    The Salem-Keizer Safe Routes to School program started five years ago, but because of the pandemic, and the inability to reach students in schools, it didn’t really take off until fall 2022 when Beth Schmidt was hired to lead it. Since then, Schmidt has worked with the district and other partners to teach bus, pedestrian and bike safety, including PE classes that started last year in partnership with Cycle Oregon to help kids learn how to ride bikes and follow the rules of the road.  Next month, the Portland-based nonprofit The Street Trust will be giving Schmidt an award for her efforts to advocate for the successful passage of SB 450, which Gov. Tina Kotek signed into law in June. It designates Nov. 14 as Ruby Bridges Walk to School Day in Oregon to honor Bridges’ courage in helping end school segregation in the U.S. Schmidt joins us to talk about her work in Salem and Keizer to make streets safer for students.
