Guy Kawasaki's name has become almost synonymous with tech entrepreneurship and evangelism. Over the past 25 years, he's had a hand in advising a generation of tech start-ups and innovators, either directly, through stints at Apple and Google, or through his writings, speaking engagements, podcast and numerous books. Guy has started up a few of his own companies as well, and the venture capital fund he launched, Garage Technology Ventures, has invested in a variety of early-stage technology companies. I first interviewed Guy for this podcast in 2006. Catching up with him nearly 15 years later was a real treat — although we were a little delayed getting started. As Guy explained, the waves were pretty good that day, so he had to get a little extra surfing in. When he's not riding the waves, Guy is the Chief Evangelist for Canva, bringing the good news of the democratization of design to the world for this Australian startup, which is now valued at A$6 billion. In this episode, he shares what it means to be an evangelist, the role of luck in entrepreneurship, how his work life has evolved and the career achievement he's most proud of — which also happens to be the one he feels is most underappreciated. *** If you enjoy the podcast, would you please consider leaving a short review on Apple Podcasts/iTunes? Today's Guest: Guy Kawasaki, entrepreneur, former Apple evangelist, author of Enchantment, Reality Check. I defy you to pick any page in a Guy Kawasaki book – any page at all – and not come away a little smarter, a little inspired, or at least a little entertained. And that’s setting the bar pretty low; I found there was often too much of a takeaway when I read his last two books, Reality Check last year and his latest, Enchantment: The Art of Changing Hearts, Minds, and Actions. GUY KAWASAKI audio excerpt: "I'm just a social media whore-- what can I tell you? The important thing is that you give the illusion you're working hard!"  You can LISTEN to this interview with GUY KAWASAKI, author of ENCHANTMENT and REALITY CHECK, by clicking the audio player above! His wife might think he needs to take out the garbage or otherwise help out more around the house, but as a reader and a fan, I think Kawasaki does too much already. He’s making the rest of us look lazy based on his productivity. There are the books – ten and counting – the businesses, including Alltop.com – the keynote speaking engagements, the blog for American Express, and his founding partnership in Garage Technology Ventures. He still speaks so highly of Apple – where he rose to fame as its chief evangelist more than 24 years ago – that many people think he’s still on the payroll. (And he’s not doing much to dissuade them by having Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak quoted on the front cover saying, “Read this book to create a company as enchanting as Apple.”) In Enchantment, Kawasaki dissects enchantment like a high school student would a frog, making it clear that a concept that may seem ephemeral to some is actually quite easily studied, learned and duplicated. You just need the desire to start.

Prior to running Born To Sell, Mike had 3 distinct careers: software engineering, investment banking, and venture capital. As a software engineer, Mike spent 12 years at several Silicon Valley startups. Two of them went public on NASDAQ: Storm Technology (1994) and General Magic (1997). After that Mike switched to investment banking at Garage.com (now Garage Technology Ventures) where he helped early stage startups raise money from angel investors and VCs. During his 4 years at Garage, Mike read thousands of business plans and was part of the team that helped over 100 startups raise over $300M. Mike switched from investment banking to venture capital in 2002. He worked at two billion dollar VC funds, Sierra Ventures and Battery Ventures, as a direct investor -- putting $86M of LP money into high tech startups and serving on their Board of Directors. He is currently a Venture Partner at Ottawa's top venture capital firm, Mistral Venture Partners. His passion has always been covered calls. In 2009 he became a full-time entrepreneur and started Born To Sell. The goal was (and is) to provide best-of-breed covered call software to self-directed covered call investors.     Steven bought his first stock at the age of 14 and the rest was history. He lives in the small working class town of Russellville, Arkansas with his wife and 2 kids. Steven has a background in Economics and Finance and worked for one of the largest investment firms in the U.S for 6 years.   He has established The Trader's Plan as a distinctively unique ETF & Growth stock newsletter that focuses on trends in the market indices. Being a former Financial Advisor at a large broker dealer (and watching portfolios crash in 2008) forced Steven to abandon "buy & hold" and create a simple ETF strategy that has averaged 64.11% per year since 2007 that anyone can follow.   Powered by Seth Greene: a 6 Time Best Selling Author, Nationally Recognized Direct Response Marketing Expert, and the only back to back to back GKIC Dan Kennedy Marketer of the Year Nominee.  Get a FREE Copy of Seth’s new book Podcast Marketing Magic, and access to a Live Podcast Marketing Training Webinar at http://www.UltimateMarketingMagician.com
