The 1996 Page/Plant tour of Japan has been extremely well regarded, and documented, for close to 30 years. Thanks to the fantastic audio and video captured, with the ok of the band, by Third Eye, we have a magnificent full stereo recording of February 12, 1996 in Tokyo. We hear a tender Tea for One (only ever played on this tour) with orchestra, a brilliant and bombastic Babe I'm Gonna Leave You, with a nice Stairway tease, and a supremely tight and cool af Whole Lotta Love, which contains the original, the Knebworth version, and new sections exclusive to the Page/Plant partnership. It's awesome. The whole show.

The 1998 Walking Into Everywhere Tour is a goldmine for great music. The rhythm section of Michael Lee, and Charlie Jones, had really jelled with Jimmy Page, and were a formidable force live. This show is the penultimate show of the tour, December 1, 1998 in Ghent, Belgium. I play Tangerine, Babe I'm Gonna Leave You (great work from everyone on this one), and the final encores of Ramble On and Rock and Roll. Enjoy one of the last performances of the fabled Page/Plant reunion. We shan't see their like again.

In this episode of the "Sounds on Vinyl" podcast, hosts Phil Bowyer and Mike Svensson delve into the iconic debut album of Led Zeppelin, released in 1969. They begin by discussing the band's fearless approach to blending multiple genres, including rock, blues, and folk, highlighting the album's daring and innovative nature for its time. They examine each track in detail, praising the musicianship of each band member, especially John Bonham's exceptional drumming and Jimmy Page's guitar mastery.Songs like "Good Times Bad Times," "Dazed and Confused," and "Babe I'm Gonna Leave You" are lauded for their groundbreaking elements, showcasing Led Zeppelin's unique ability to transform blues into something entirely new. However, they express mixed feelings about tracks like "Your Time is Gonna Come" and "Black Mountain Side," noting their experimental nature. The podcast also touches on the significance of the album's longer tracks, an uncommon feature in the late 60s, and how Led Zeppelin's boldness in song length and style paid off. They discuss the album's covers, particularly Willie Dixon's "I Can't Quit You Baby," as examples of Led Zeppelin's talent in reinterpreting and elevating blues music.Towards the end, Phil and Mike reveal that the next episode will be their final show, promising it to be an epic conclusion featuring one of the greatest heavy metal bands. They hint at a future project, indicating the end of "Sounds on Vinyl" in its current format but the beginning of something new and exciting in the world of music.Credits:Hosts:Mike Svensson Phil Bowyer Intro & Outro:Voice Over: Kate Bowyer Music: Dead Anarchy ---Thank you for listening! We're back this week to dive deep into the discography of one of the greatest rock bands of all time, Led Zeppelin. Specifically, we'll be exploring their albums released between 1969 and 1973, picking our favorite and least favorite songs from each. Led Zeppelin, the iconic rock band formed in 1968, released their self-titled debut album in 1969. The album featured a diverse range of rock and blues-influenced tracks, showcasing the band's talent and establishing their unique sound. The album opens with the energetic "Good Times Bad Times" and includes other standout tracks like "Babe I'm Gonna Leave You," "Dazed And Confused," and "Communication Breakdown." Led Zeppelin's debut album set the stage for their future success and solidified their status as one of the greatest rock bands of all time. Led Zeppelin II - 1969 Following the success of their debut, Led Zeppelin released their second album, Led Zeppelin II, later in 1969. The album featured a heavier sound and showcased the band's growth as songwriters and performers. It includes the iconic track "Whole Lotta Love," along with other notable songs such as "What Is and What Should Never Be," "Heartbreaker," and "Ramble On." Led Zeppelin II further established the band's dominance in the rock music scene and demonstrated their ability to create powerful and memorable rock anthems. Led Zeppelin III - 1970 In 1970, Led Zeppelin released their third studio album, Led Zeppelin III. This album showcased a more acoustic and folk-influenced sound compared to their previous releases. It includes tracks like "Immigrant Song," "Since I've Been Loving You," and "Gallows Pole," which blend the band's signature rock sound with elements of folk and blues. Led Zeppelin III displayed the band's versatility and willingness to experiment with different musical styles, earning critical acclaim and further expanding their fan base. Led Zeppelin IV - 1971 Led Zeppelin's fourth album, commonly known as Led Zeppelin IV or untitled, was released in 1971 and became one of the band's most iconic and commercially successful albums. It features the legendary track "Stairway to Heaven," a monumental rock epic that has become one of the most celebrated songs in rock history. The album also includes other hits such as "Black Dog," "Rock and Roll," and "When the Levee Breaks." Led Zeppelin IV solidified the band's status as rock legends and remains a classic album revered by fans and musicians alike. Houses of the Holy - 1972 In 1972, Led Zeppelin released their fifth studio album, Houses of the Holy. The album continued to push the boundaries of their sound, incorporating elements of funk, reggae, and even orchestral arrangements. Tracks like "The Song Remains the Same," "The Rain Song," and "No Quarter" showcased the band's musical maturity and their ability to create dynamic and atmospheric compositions. We're here, folks. It's the end of the season that got Kaitlyn hooked on One Tree Hill and the end of the season that both of your hosts call their favorite season of the entire series. But our journey through this amazing teen drama is just beginning because S3E22, The Show Must Go On, leaves us with so many cliffhangers as Nathan (James Lafferty) and Haley (Bethany Joy Lenz) head to the altar! Will things ever be the same between Brooke (Sophia Bush), Peyton (Hilarie Burton Morgan) and Lucas (Chad Michael Murray)? Who wrote “murderer” on Dan's (Paul Johansson) wall? Will Karen (Moira Kelly), who is now pregnant with Keith's child, ever learn the truth about Dan? Who is pregnant? Will Rachel (Danneel Ackles) and Cooper (Michael Trucco) survive from their limo dropping into the water? Will Nathan? Will Deb (Barbara Alyn Woods) ever stop being so freaking iconic?? Just kidding. We know Deb will always be iconic. So we can rest easy knowing that she will continue being fabulous after confessing to attempted murder. The episode title's connection to its namesake, Queen's “The Show Must Go On,” including how it chronicles Freddie Mercury's efforts to continue performing as he was dying. Plus, the title may have been a subtle message to send network executives. Give Sophia Bush an Emmy, already! The full-circle moment from the third season premiere (Please forgive Jeremy for only mentioning Ellie and Keith as the only deaths in season 3, and completely forgetting about Jimmy!) Myspace memories. Gen Z, for those who don't know, Myspace was a website like Twitter and Facebook, but fun. Our evolving feelings on Brucas, including a shocking confession from Jeremy and a connection to Taylor Swift's “Out of the Woods” from Kaitlyn. Brooke's (some deserved, some not) pettiness toward Peyton. Does Brooke really love Lucas? Deb's iconic version of “Tell Cersei. I want her to know it was me.” Why did Karen tell Dan she was pregnant? The use of The Snow Patrol song, “Chasing Cars,” and how music supervisor Lindsay Wolfington secured it for this episode before the song's actual release. How safe we feel with Naley right now (also how in the heck did they afford this wedding!?) How Gavin DeGraw's “More Than Anyone” was selected by viewers to be Nathan and Haley's first dance song. The fallout from Cooper and Rachel. The iconic CODA featuring the Led Zeppelin song, “Babe I'm Gonna Leave You,” and a brief history of the band's reluctance to license its songs out for TV and film We may not be returning until September for season four but we couldn't wait that long to watch S4E1, "The Same Deep Water As You"! On Sunday, June 4 at 2pm EST, we will be hosting a live watch of the episode in our Discord server for our patrons at the $2 level and above! This week, we take a look back at the incredible albums of 1978. In a year when Uncle Gregg was just playing with his squeezebox and Brett was gettin' down to Sesame Street Fever, our Third Lad Jim Basnight was right in the thick of the Seattle music scene. 1978 was the year Basnight's power pop combo The Moberlys formed, straddling the line between melodic Beatlesque songcraft and tightly wound, hormonally charged garage rock. From those nascent days (which have been compiled on the recent Early Years compilation) to his latest solo album, 2019's aptly titled Not Changing, Jim Basnight has been delighting pop music fans for well over 40 years. In this insightful, fun-filled episode, we talk about early musical influences, opening for Ramones, The Police and Greg Kihn, the New York punk scene, Seattle grunge, drunken nights, hard rock, bubblegum and blues roots, and a whole lot more. Plus, we play both sides of the latest single off of Early Years, "Live In The Sun" and "Bebe I'm Gonna Leave You." It's the show that caused Jim to exclaim, "I didn't realize what kind of complete nerds you guys are!" It's just what you needed! #musicpodcast #musicpodcasts #podnation #1stwave #classicalternative #70smusic #1978music #1978albums #punkrock #newwave #powerpop #classicrock

Small Bear returns with an emotive bass heavy tool for Hotseat Recordings fourth release. The Dublin based producer draws on garage and dubstep influences, showcasing a dark and murky but none the less alleviate as the track progresses. Hotseat Recordings are back with their 4th release. Going back to the roots of the label's first release with a stellar lineup of Irish talent which all offer unique but cohesive sounds across the four tracks. Small Bear, Jimbo Jones, and Maurice Anthony Moran (aka Tran Neptunia Orbit) have all previously featured on previous releases. This time round High Fidelity, Small Bear, Jimbo Jones and Maurice Anthony Moran contribute tracks. Gonna Leave U is a track I have been working on for over 2 years. Made during the early stages of lockdown, I had been listening to a lot of dubstep and post-dubstep, and for it I wanted to channel the energy of the likes of Pariah's and Pangaea's earlier tunes. Small Bear picks up the tempo with a percussive 2-step garage style beat, with a drone-y bassline and some dark organ stabs. The first half of the track builds in tension before the beat drops out momentarily. After this, in the second half, Small Bear flexes his production prowess sampling the song ‘Babe I'm Gonna Leave You', which is a powerful vocal driven performance by Joan Baez. The beat returns explosively with her vocals soaring over it, taking us to the outro of the track. This is is bass heavy goodness, from a really exciting Irish producer. Grabaron Elton John, Jimi Hendrix, Jimmy Page... Compuesto por Pete Townshend y grabado en febrero de 1969, obviamente en los estudios IBC de Londres: "Pinball wizard".Tracklist"You Really Got Me", The Kinks"I want to be Loved", The Rolling Stones"Speed King", Deep Purple"Babe I'm Gonna Leave You", Led Zeppelin"My generation", The Who"Shout", The Beatles (versión del especial "Around The Beatles")"Sha La La La Lee", Small Faces"Pinball wizard", The Who See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

As of this week, music producer and YouTube star Rick Beato has 2.34 million subscribers who watch his deep dives into musical theory, often using examples from pop music. His videos are meant to be educational and analytical, but they are from time to time demonetized for copyright infringement. Most recently, Beato had a dispute with music publisher Warner Chappell Music, over a live streamed video called “Why Today's Music Is So BORING. The Regression of Musical Innovation,” in which he played a chord progression on his guitar of Led Zeppelin's “Babe I'm Gonna Leave You” as an example of a complex chord progression. According to a follow-up YouTube video, Beato said that Warner Chappell Music made a copyright infringement claim, he appealed citing fair use and was rejected. Then this morning, Beato got word that the claim was released. We hold up a legal lens to the situation. What are the rules when it comes to copyright infringement and fair use in the world of music and educational YouTube videos? Guests: Kelly Shapiro, founder and managing partner at the Law Offices of Kelly D. Shapiro, based in Santa Monica, Los Angeles Don Franzen, adjunct professor of business and music law at UCLA and visiting professor at Berklee School of Music; music and entertainment attorney based in Beverly Hills; he tweets @donfranzen

Sonarán Space Oddity (Bowie), Babe I’m Gonna Leave You y Heartbreaker (Led Zeppelin), Come Together y Something (The Beatles), Pinball Wizard (The Who), Proud Mary (Creedence Clearwater Revival), With a Little Help from My Friends (Joe Cocker), Helplessly Hoping (Crosby, Stills & Nash), Down by The River (Neil Young), Presence of the Lord (Blind Faith), I Wanna be Your Dog (The Stooges), What Goes On (The Velvet Underground), Evil Ways (Santana), Epitaph (King Crimson), Volunteers (Jefferson Airplane), The Soft Parade (The Doors) y You Can’t Always Get What You Want (The Rolling Stones)

I talk about the 1998 Page/Plant tour, and how Jimmy Page was ON FIRE and playing like a man possessed. I focus on the Bizarre Festival in Koln, Germany on August 23, 1998, and play three songs from this gig (professionally recorded and broadcast), Babe I'm Gonna Leave You, Heart In Your Hand, and How Many More Times. Good stuff. My new mic cable has yet to arrive, so my vocals are recorded using my laptop mic. Apologies.

Jack Russel of Great White joins us this week to discuss a career that has spanned the highs, lows, and everything in-between. Last week was a busy week in the press for Russell between dodging drunk boaters and having to clarify remarks about former manager Alan Niven. He takes a few minutes to discuss these stories, as well as where the current legal case with the rest of the band stands, with us before we launch into career-talk. And what a career it's been. From their early days in 1978 as Dante Fox, Jack tells us how the name Great White came about and how it relates to albino guitar players. We get Jack's recollections of the Sunset Strip in the days before it exploded which included flyer wars with Nikki Sixx and Motley Crue as well as his thoughts on how the internet has pretty much squashed the chances of a regional thing on that level happening again. We discuss the reversal of touring to sell albums shifting to recording an album as an excuse to tour and Jack's thoughts on what downloading has done to deplete potential income and the presence of record stores. Chris asks Jack to explain why the first two Great White albums sound so distinctly different from everything that followed and we find out why all of those keyboards appeared on the Shot in the Dark album. You'll hear Jacks memories of touring with Whitesnake in the U.K. for Great White's first european tour as well as a story about the members of Judas Priest playing volleyball in Biloxi, MS while on the Defenders of the Faith tour. Russell tells us how he had to fight to get Save Your Love included on the Once Bitten album after the producer and record company went cold on the song; a gamble that paid off for Russell and the band as the song received widespread radio airplay. Following the breakthrough success of the Once Bitten & Twice Shy albums, the tide started shifting in popular music with "party" rock bands beginning to multiply to the general public's disgust causing the overnight change of pace with grunge music taking over the airwaves. Jack gives us his memories of this period of time and how it hit the hard rock scene like a freight train and did much damage to the prospects of success for their then-new album Psycho City. He also tells us about Great White's experience opening for KISS during 1992's Revenge tour and getting a front row seat to the media machinations of one Gene Simmons. After venturing into solo territory, Russell and guitarist Mark Kendall began performing again as Jack Russell's Great White with Kendall leaving the band again. With new guitarist Ty Longley, the band played The Station nightclub in Warwick, Rhode Island where pyrotechnics caused a fire that killed one hundred people including Longley. Jack Russell tells why he's decided to no longer comment on the incident. We wrap up the conversation with some talk about the band's amazing cover of Led Zeppelin's Babe I'm Gonna Leave You and why they decided to record an entire album of Zeppelin covers songs as well as the upcoming America Rocks 2012 tour that Jack and co. are undertaking this summer along with Faster Pussycat, Bulletboys, Pretty Boy Floyd, and Lillian Axe. Jack also makes it a point to thank his legion of very supportive fans that helped to bring him back from a horrific physical state to rocking stages all over the world again. Special thanks to Dave Hardin and Valerie Ince for helping arrange this interview. Check out Jack Russell's website for tour dates, news, and messages from Jack himself.
