In this episode I spoke to Nigel Banks, Technical Director at Octopus Energy. Nigel is author of Fabric Fifth which many now see as the common sense approach to retrofitting and decarbonising homes. Nigel spoke in a personal capacity. I was extremely grateful he came on the show. I have been critical of Octopus in certain regards but am also well aware they are doing important work. It was a pleasure to have Nigel speak on my show. I also chatted with Dan Kelly, Managing Director at Dartmoor Energy. Dan has nine years experience with heat pump systems as well as being a qualified PAS2035 retrofit coordinator and assessor. For me, the episode helps illustrate that the fa bric first mantra has possibly led the UK down the wrong path. And it could be argued there has been a waste of Government funds, essentially tax payers money. The most vehement of fabric first advocates, to me, clearly do not understand why the forefathers of thermodynamics got excited about heat pumps: things which used work to do heat rather than things which use heat to do work. The former being able to reach well above the 100 percent efficiency cap of the later. It highlights how many are not taking ownership of their own learning and understanding what people like Lord Kelvin knew back in 1852.It has been far too easy for people to disseminate "fabric first". Quite honestly it is often laziness and highlights a lack of professional developmentIt is totally understandable that consumers do not understand the science of heat but for those involved in the discourse, especially if they are being paid and funded via money from the tax payer they need to take ownership of their own learning and bring them selves up to speed. In this episode, we speak with Mark Watts from the C40 network, Sophie Hæstorp Andersen, Lord Mayor of Copenhagen, Pelle Bournonville from Realdania, and Louise Koch from Grundfos. Together, we explore how cities are taking the lead in the race to net-zero. Today, cities are home to over half of the world's population and are responsible for 70% of greenhouse gas emissions. As they increasingly grapple with the adverse effects of climate breakdown, they represent a critical unit to mobilise in the green transition. Yet, amidst these challenges, pioneering cities around the world are forging a path towards a sustainable future for their communities and the planet. And Danish cities and municipalities are making historic contributions to that endeavour.

Alle mulige forskellige virksomheder anvender gamification, såsom Coop, Sydbank, Albatros Travel, Danish Crown, Bone's restauranter, Grundfos, Sinful, McDonalds, Zizzi, Amnesty International, Røde Kors og flere end 400 andre virksomheder. Store som små. Ja, det bliver lidt en svada af fine ord, men Andreas får det forklaret rigtigt godt i denne episode af PotterCut.

This podcast interview focuses on product innovation that has the power to solve the global talent problem. My guest is Nemo D'Qrill, CEO at Sigma Polaris Nemo has traveled many paths driven by a passion to discover, understand, and solve worthy problems. From Mathematician to Logician to Flautist for the Danish Queen to Entrepreneur. He was honored as the youngest-ever Goodwill Ambassador of Denmark, presenting joint ventures of world-leading companies internationally such as Maersk, Vestas, Grundfos, and Lego. His constant passion for understanding and solving problems naturally lead him down the path of Entrepreneurship. With passion and drive Nemo decided to tackle the age-old problems of inefficiency, discrimination, and inaccuracy in recruitment and HR in general. That's why he founded Sigma Polaris around a singular vision; Creating a world where HR analysis is based solely on meritocracy and where bias and discrimination are things of the past. Its mission: To change the world of work and shift how companies build, engage, retain, and capitalize on the use of diverse teams in today's workforce. And this inspired me, and hence I invited Nemo to my podcast. We explore what's broken in the way we recruit our talent today. That there isn't a talent problem, but a distribution problem - and how we can fix that with technology - in particular by removing bias and having to rely on intuition. Nemo shares the most important lessons learned from his startup journey. That building a business requires much more than just an amazing product. What advantage leveraging diversity gives them. And why his business couldn't have been what it is today without investing time in exercise i.e. taking care of himself. Here's a quote from him: There is a saying; 'you can get a book to be popular, by getting eight out of 10 people to like it, or by getting two out of 10 people to love it.' Now, when you are a giant, you need, most of the time, the eight out of 10. You need to be having almost all of the people you speak with think that at least you're interesting good. But I think as a startup, one of the things I've realized is this: we need to work with people that truly buy into it, the people that also believe in the mission. Because if you speak with them, sales cycles get shorter, and procurement gets easier. And all of a sudden, you get a reference, and you get a quote from every single client. And I think today, we've had a quote from almost every single client we have worked with because we choose clients that believe. Instead of trying to get tons of people interested, we try to get some people super excited. During this interview, you will learn four things: His strategy to be less 'all over the place' How you can create a 300% impact difference in a matter of just 3 months That you can get your product to be popular by getting 8 out of 10 people to like it or getting 2 out of 10 to love it That it doesn't matter how good your pitch deck is if it doesn't get shared. On a global scale, 282 million people walk in search of water every single day. Africa is one of the most water-stressed regions in the world. On the continent, 483 million people lack sanitation, and 3 in 10 do not have access to basic drinking water services. Innovative initiatives are taken to solve the various water challenges facing African countries, and in this episode, some of the solutions are introduced by SafeWater Senior Director Pia Yasuko Rask and Tity Simbo Kamara, Project Manager, Social Enterprise Development Sierra Leone.Rask stresses that water is at the heart of sustainable development and that improving global access to clean water can truly transform the world. Giving examples of SafeWater's projects, activities, and partnerships in Africa, she underlines that the ultimate goal is for all of us to have access to safe water in our homes.Kamara gives an insight into the case of Sierra Leone where 1 in 3 does not have access to safe water. She points out that to change this, Social Enterprise Development Sierra Leone works closely together with local communities and mobilizes them to invest in their own water infrastructure to ensure long-term water security and thereby improve livelihoods.

Each year, the Philippines is hit by an average of 20 typhoons, which are growing progressively more destructive. A report released by Fitch Ratings in November 2021 said that this country is one of the most exposed to climate change physical risks, particularly floods and storms. In addition, the Department of Finance reported that climate-related hazards have cost the country $10 billion dollars in losses and damage over the past decade. In this B-Side episode, Rick Holland, Grundfos senior regional sales director for the Asia Pacific, talks to BusinessWorld reporter Alyssa Nicole O. Tan about key solutions to mitigate flooding caused by extreme weather events amid worsening climate change. Headquartered in Denmark, Grundfos manufactures pumps for flood control, irrigation, and sewage, among others. “You cannot just take one approach to everything,” said Mr. Holland, noting that a community's geography, economic status, and density should be considered when thinking of long-term solutions. Recorded remotely in February 2022. Produced by Earl R. Lagundino, Jino D. Nicolas, and Sam L. Marcelo.

The Great Product Owner: The PO that knew how to nurture an Agile culture in the team This Product Owner had a clear willingness to learn, and to accept a new role that was new to them. Through that, the PO was able to help build an agile culture, a culture of “being agile” instead of “doing agile”. In this episode, we hear how a team is an ecosystem and has its own culture that needs to be nurtured by the Scrum Master, and the Product Owner. The Bad Product Owner: When the PO's lose focus on value, a PO anti-pattern This PO was not able to focus on the value the team was helping to create. When this anti-pattern happens, then the team ends up being focused on “just doing the work”, and is not able to bring their technology perspective into the creation of a clear value, or impact on the user. In this episode, we hear about a company that was going through a long, 3.5 year journey of Agile transformation. When Nick joined, they had just decided to adopt SAFe, as a way to scale their use of Agile methods. Unfortunately, this is not a story of complete success, as we hear about how a traditional consultancy tried to impose SAFe on the organization, with a top-down, linear (aka Waterfall) plan of adoption. Fortunately, however, the Agile Coaches and Scrum Masters in that organization were able to turn the adoption around, and make it succeed! Listen in to learn about how NOT TO adopt Agile/SAFe.
