Diagnoses have been increasing in both kids and adults. The recent government report also found adult ADHD was more common than earlier estimates had suggested. “We haven't had (federal) adult ADHD data in a long time,” said Angelika Claussen. The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention researcher was one of the study's writers.“很长一段时间以来,我们已经有(联邦)成人多动症数据了。” There were signs of the rise, she added. Increasing demand for ADHD medication led to severe shortages after the COVID-19 pandemic hit in March 2020. A 2023 study showed the rise in prescriptions, or doctors' orders for such medication, was notable in adults — especially among women. ADHD diagnoses and medication were increasing before the pandemic. This is partly because of a change in general diagnostic measures in 2013. Those changes expanded the definition of ADHD and reduced the number of signs, or symptoms, required for diagnosis. But cases really seemed to increase in 2020, when schools closed and many adults were forced to work from home. “It's very difficult to focus when you are home and you have kids,” Claussen said. She said such conditions may have worsened ADHD symptoms in people with less severe cases. Experts say that it was long believed that ADHD was underdiagnosed in adults. Now, experts debate about whether it has become over-diagnosed. There is no blood or brain test for the disorder. Experts say it is diagnosed when symptoms cause ongoing problems in more than one area of life, and when those symptoms began in early childhood. Experts say the best way professionals diagnose ADHD is by getting careful histories from patients and from people who know them. They also might test a patient's memory and ability to focus. But getting an appointment with a mental health professional can take months. And assessments can cost thousands of dollars. Many people turn to family doctors. People also take online diagnostic tests, some of which are linked to health companies that prescribe medications. “There is a wide variability in this country in how people diagnose, how strict they are, and who they diagnose,” said Margaret Sibley. Another beautiful day yesterday with temps dropping a bit today. Back into the 60's on Wednesday & Thursday…and maybe getting close to 80° on Friday! In the news this morning, an update on the Pope's condition, more info on the Northside shooting on Sunday afternoon, a charge of child neglect in the Josie Dikeman case will not be dismissed, a unique event is coming to the NFL Draft in Green Bay in April, and a 4 year-old in Wisconsin called 911 after his mom ate his ice cream! In sports, we went over the Big Ten Tournament schedule, talked about tonight's Bucks game against the Pacers, the Packers moves on day one of NFL free agency, and Sam Darnold getting PAID by moving to Seattle. Elsewhere in sports, a look at some of the other big free agency moves in the NFL, Yankees ace Gerrit Cole is done for the season and will be getting Tommy John surgery, and the Brewers announced their post-game concert schedule for the upcoming season. We let you know what's on TV today/tonight & also what's new on New Release Tuesday. Grant Bilse of the Wisco Sports show joined us just after 8am to talk about his reactions to the NFL roster moves. A heroic 9 year-old saved his friend's life by performing the Heimlich maneuver as he was choking on a granola bar and it was all caught on video. Apparently, there's a new way to cook eggs and it takes about a half hour from start to finish. No thanks. Claussen's is now selling just the pickle juice in case you're not interested in the actual pickles, and a pizza place in Australia is going viral for putting orange slices on pizza. We also talked about some of the common dreams people have. And in today's edition of "Bad News with Happy Music", we had stories about a man who got shot in the leg by his own dog, a woman who got locked in a steam room by a coworker, a town in #Florida named "Taintsville", a woman who locked her lover on the balcony of their apartment & he froze to death, and a man in NH stole a car…got into an accident…and took off his clothes & wandered around in the middle of a highway butt-ass naked.

Today's episode is all about California Condors with Tiana Williams-Claussen, the director of the Yurok Tribe's wildlife department. This episode is actually from my friend Michelle Fullner of the Golden State Naturalist podcast. If you don't know Golden State Naturalist, I think this episode is pretty indicative of Michelle's work. She travels around California to meet and interview interesting people in the field. There is a definite advantage to in-person interviews, and I wish I could do more. Even though this episode is about California Condors, and the podcast is California-centric, today's episode is still broadly applicable. California Condors historically lived in a large chunk of the western North America, from southern Canada to northern Mexico. And the challenges facing Condors, and the efforts to reintroduce and sustain them have many parallels. Now, I don't want to take away from Michelle's introduction for this episode coming shortly. But I do want to tell you why I wanted to cover Condors on Nature's Archive.Right off the bat, condors are huge - boasting a 9 foot wingspan. They're also critically endangered, which is why Tiana Williams-Claussen is such a great guest - she's leading a reintroduction program with the Yurok Tribe in northern California. As long time listeners know, I particularly enjoy covering overlooked and misrepresented flora and fauna. And for today, I'm going to lump condors and vultures together. In fact, in North America, vultures and condors are in the same family of birds, and occupy similar ecological roles. And what role is that? Well, the textbooks say “scavengers”. And if you are like most people, you might have an unconscious negative bias towards scavengers. Why? So much of our human-centric perspective is based on how we live, and casts a negative light towards other evolved lifestyles, such as parasitism, or in this case, scavenging. To scavenge - that is, eat already dead animals - one must have some pretty amazing adaptations. Afterall, the moment an animal dies, bacteria starts to take over. And the fact the animal died in the first place might indicate that it was already diseased, especially if it didn't die as roadkill. If a diseased carcass remains on the landscape for an extended period of time, it can become a disease vector. But vultures and condors are special. Their acidic stomachs and unique immune systems help protect them. I heard a great reframing of the role condors and vultures play - instead of scavengers, they are nature's immune system. By rapidly clearing dead animals, they prevent and halt disease spread. And there are examples around the world where vultures had died off for various, usually human-caused reasons, and this resulted in significant increases in diseases in other animals - including rabies.FULL SHOW NOTESMusic: Spellbound by Brian Holtz MusicFree download: https://filmmusic.io/song/9616-spellboundLicense (CC BY 4.0): https://filmmusic.io/standard-licenseArtist website: https://brianholtzmusic.comSupport Us On Patreon! .Get inspired with the Jumpstart Nature Podcast - entertaining and immersive, it's the nature podcast we all need.Check past Nature's Archive episodes for amazing guests such as Dr. Doug Tallamy, Dr. Elaine Ingham, and Gabe Brown. At the height of the last ice age, California condors could be found all across North America, and since time immemorial, these birds have held special cultural and spiritual significance for a number of Indigenous groups. But by the late 1980's, the last wild condor had been captured and brought into a captive breeding program. They were extinct in the wild. So what happened to these enormous scavengers to diminish their range so dramatically? How much progress has been made by the captive breeding programs? How is their cultural significance being honored today? Join me and Tiana Williams-Claussen, Director of the Yurok Tribe Wildlife Department, as we discuss what makes condors unique, their cultural and spiritual significance to the Yurok People, and the incredible program that's brought the largest flying birds in North America back to their home in the redwoods for the first time in over a century. Brothers Chris and Joe Claussen's journey into cognitive health and wellness began 25 years ago, as they witnessed their grandfather, a once sharp-minded entrepreneur, succumb to Alzheimer's disease. Eventually, their father suffered from the same fate, and they discovered they were next, after genetic tests showed they had the strongest risk factor gene for Alzheimer's (ApoE4).As their father's health declined over the course of 10 years, they became determined to figure out what could be done to change the course for themselves and their families. They immersed themselves in finding answers, and discovered the brain-boosting power of lion's mane mushrooms. How to support the show!Pure Spectrum CBD: Promo code AnxietyPod for 15% off!https://www.purespectrumcbd.com/Buy Me a Coffee:https://www.buymeacoffee.com/givesmeanxietyInstacart:Instacart.oloiyb.net/AnxietyThe Cardist - anxiety pod 10%https://thecardiststudio.com/Check out the show on all of your favorite social platforms!https://twitter.com/GivesanxietyPodhttps://www.facebook.com/thatgivesmeanxietypodcasthttps://www.instagram.com/thatgivesmeanxietypodcast/https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCgCOITNlRi_K7JP9QxBK-vQCheck out the first person site here:https://getfirstperson.com/Support the show
