There Is Still Good Ahead1 Kings 19:3-9 ““Elijah was afraid and ran for his life. When he came to Beersheba in Judah, he left his servant there, while he himself went a day's journey into the wilderness. He came to a broom bush, sat down under it, and prayed that he might die. “I have had enough, Lord,” he said. “Take my life; I am no better than my ancestors.” Then he lay down under the bush and fell asleep. All at once, an angel touched him and said, “Get up and eat.” He looked around, and there by his head was some bread baked over hot coals, and a jar of water. He ate and drank and then lay down again. The angel of the Lord came back a second time and touched him and said, “Get up and eat, for the journey is too much for you.” So he got up and ate and drank. Strengthened by that food, he traveled forty days and forty nights until he reached Horeb, the mountain of God. There he went into a cave and spent the night.”I heard an episode of the Big Life Podcast last week, and it reminded me of the story about the prophet Elijah that I just read to you. As soon as I heard it, I felt the Holy Spirit wanted me to share it with all of you this week. What came to mind when I heard this verse is that it might be helpful to know that Elijah wanted to give up. In case you don't know who Elijah is, let me summarize who he was. Elijah was a prophet of God in the Old Testament, known for his bold faith, miraculous acts, and deep emotional struggles. He lived during the reign of King Ahab in 9th century B.C. Israel, a time when the nation had turned away from God to worship false gods like Baal. Here are some Key Highlights of Elijah's Life:Confronted King Ahab and JezebelElijah boldly declared a drought as God's judgment (1 Kings 17:1) and later challenged the corrupt leadership promoting idolatry.Miracles by God's PowerMultiplied flour and oil for a widow (1 Kings 17:14–16)Raised her son from the dead (1 Kings 17:22)Called down fire from heaven to prove God's power on Mount Carmel (1 Kings 18:36–38)Ran for His Life and Struggled with DespairAfter his great victory, Queen Jezebel threatened his life. Elijah fled, became discouraged, and asked God to take his life (1 Kings 19:4).God met him in a gentle whisper, showing that God's presence isn't always dramatic—it's personal and close (1 Kings 19:11–13).Taken to HeavenElijah never died—God took him to heaven in a chariot of fire (2 Kings 2:11), making him one of only two people in the Bible (with Enoch) who didn't experience death.Symbol of the ProphetsElijah later appears with Moses during Jesus' Transfiguration (Matthew 17:3), representing the prophets alongside the law (Moses).Elijah did a lot for the Lord. He was close to the Lord, and the Lord used him to do amazing things! He knew how mighty the Lord was, yet he felt he wanted to die. He felt like what the Lord asked him to do was too great. Sometimes, when we feel like giving up, we feel weak. We feel like we have failed or let the Lord down because He trusted us, yet we feel we can't go on anymore. If you feel this, I want you to know that you are not alone. There are several people in the Bible—deeply faithful, even heroic people—who reached a breaking point and felt like they couldn't go on. Some even asked God to take their lives. These moments show that God isn't afraid of our despair—He meets us in it, and He restores. Here are some of those people and where you can find their stories in the Bible in case you want to look them up and read more about them.Throughout Scripture, we see that even God's most faithful servants reached moments where they felt like they couldn't go on. Elijah,1 Kings 19:4 “He came to a broom bush, sat down under it and prayed that he might die. ‘I have had enough, Lord,' he said. ‘Take my life; I am no better than my ancestors.'” Elijah, after boldly confronting false prophets, fled in fear and isolation, collapsing under a tree and begging God to take his life. He felt completely alone—yet God met him not with punishment, but with rest, nourishment, and a quiet whisper of presence. Like Elijah, when we are drained and overwhelmed, God offers compassion, not condemnation.Moses, Numbers 11:14–15 “I cannot carry all these people by myself; the burden is too heavy for me. If this is how you are going to treat me, please go ahead and kill me…” Moses, exhausted by the emotional and logistical burden of leading a complaining people through the wilderness, cried out to God, saying he'd rather die than continue carrying the weight alone. God didn't take his life—He sent help. For us, this reminds us that we don't have to carry everything ourselves; God provides support in community.Job, Job 3:11 “Why did I not perish at birth, and die as I came from the womb?”Job, who lost everything—his children, health, and livelihood—wished he'd never been born. He poured out bitter questions and deep grief. And yet, God patiently listened, answered with presence and power, and ultimately restored him. Like Job, our suffering doesn't disqualify us from God's love.Jeremiah 20:14, 18 “Cursed be the day I was born! … Why did I ever come out of the womb to see trouble and sorrow and to end my days in shame?”Jeremiah, known as the weeping prophet, was mocked, beaten, and ignored. He cursed the day of his birth, feeling like his life was wasted. But God never revoked his calling—He reassured Jeremiah that his voice still mattered. When we feel like our lives have no impact, God sees eternal value in our faithfulness.Jonah, Jonah 4:3 “Now, Lord, take away my life, for it is better for me to die than to live.” Jonah, bitter that God showed mercy to his enemies, sulked under a plant and asked to die. God responded not with wrath, but with a question, inviting Jonah to see the world through a lens of compassion. This shows us that God works with us even when our attitudes fall short. Finally, Paul, 2 Corinthians 1:8 “We were under great pressure, far beyond our ability to endure, so that we despaired of life itself.” Paul confessed that he and his companions were burdened beyond their ability to endure—so much so that they "despaired of life itself." And yet, this deep despair drove Paul to deeper reliance on God. His story reminds us that feeling overwhelmed is not the end—it can be the beginning of a deeper trust. In every story, God meets brokenness not with rejection, but with grace, purpose, and presence, offering the same to us today. The point of the Big Life podcast that I listened to is that there is life after this hard season that you are going through. None of the people listed above stayed in the difficult season forever, even thought it might have felt like they were going to. They had moments when they called out to the Lord saying they couldn't make it any longer, and yet they all made it through the hard time. God showed up for each one of them and showed them how loved they are. He will do the same for you. After their breaking points, each of these men went on to live with renewed purpose, proving that God can bring beauty out of despair. Elijah, after begging God to take his life, was gently restored by God's presence and went on to train Elisha, his prophetic successor, leaving a lasting legacy. He even became one of only two people in Scripture who never died—he was taken to heaven in a chariot of fire.Moses, after pleading for death under the burden of leadership, received help through 70 elders and continued to lead Israel toward the Promised Land. He experienced God's presence in deeper ways, even speaking to Him “face to face,” and was honored at the end of his life for his faithfulness.Job, after cursing his birth, encountered God in a deeply personal way. God didn't just restore what Job had lost—He blessed him with double what he had before and gave him a new chapter of joy, family, and peace.Jeremiah, though weary and rejected, faithfully kept speaking God's truth. His words endured, and we still read his laments and prophecies today—proof that even painful obedience has eternal value.Jonah, despite his anger and desire to give up, still completed his mission. The entire city of Nineveh repented and turned to God, one of the greatest mass revivals in Scripture, even if Jonah struggled to celebrate it. God still used him, flaws and all.Paul, after saying he “despaired of life itself,” continued his missionary journeys, wrote most of the New Testament, and encouraged countless believers, many while in chains. His despair didn't disqualify him—it became the soil on which deeper trust and greater impact grew. These stories remind us that our lowest moments are not the end of the story. God doesn't discard us when we're weak. Instead, He draws near, strengthens us, and leads us into a future still full of purpose, impact, and hope. There is life after the breaking point—and with God, it can be more meaningful than before.Dear Heavenly Father, I ask you to bless everyone listening. Lord, I ask you to come in a special way to all those who feel like they can't go on. To all those who feel like life is too hard, or what you are calling them to do is too hard. We ask you to send the Holy Spirit to strengthen them and renew their hope. Show them that there is life after this challenging season. Please show them you are there with them and that they can do everything through you. Lift them, Lord, and help them persevere through whatever they are going through until they get to the other side. Help them climb this mountain they are facing. We love you and we ask all of this in accordance with your will and in Jesus's holy name, Amen!!Thank you so much for joining me on this journey to walk boldly with Jesus. Distant. Divided. Dysfunctional. Devour. Devastation. Honor is due. Love is the greatest commandment. Forgiveness is a given. Trust can be eroded or earned. Proverbs 25:28 Like a city whose walls are broken through is a person who lacks self-control. Boundaries are beneficial. Boundaries help prevent the bad, and promote the good. Two types of people you don't want to become in regards to boundaries: 1. Those whose walls are broken. 2. Those who build walls with no gates. Two reasons you need boundaries to prevent the bad: 1. Your Heart Jeremiah 17:9a The heart is deceitful above all things 2. The Foolishness of People Proverbs 10:23 A fool finds pleasure in wicked schemes, but a person of understanding delights in wisdom. Proverbs 13:16 All who are prudent act with knowledge, but fools expose their folly. Proverbs 14:8 The wisdom of the prudent is to give thought to their ways, but the folly of fools is deception. Proverbs 18:2 Fools find no pleasure in understanding but delight in airing their own opinions. Proverbs 28:26 Those who trust in themselves are fools, but those who walk in wisdom are kept safe. Two reasons you need boundaries to promote the good: 1. Your Healing James 5:16 Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective. 2. The Wisdom of People How should I set boundaries in relationships? Ask yourself these questions to help you set boundaries: Identity - Who am I? Responsibility - What am I responsible for? Specificity
Identity: Who and Why You Are1. Where did I come from?Genesis 1:26-27 NIV26 Then God said, “Let us make mankind in our image, in our likeness, so that they may rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky, over the livestock and all the wild animals, and over all the creatures that move along the ground.” 27 So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them.1. Where did I come from?2. Who am I? 1 Peter 2:7a, 8b-10 NIV7 But to those who do not believe,...8 they stumble because they disobey the message—which is also what they were destined for. 9 But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God's special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light. 10 Once you were not a people, but now you are the people of God1. Where did I come from?2. Who am I?3. Why am I here?Acts 1:6 NIV6 Then they gathered around him and asked him, “Lord, are you at this time going to restore the kingdom to Israel?”Acts 1:7-8 NIV7 He said to them: “It is not for you to know the times or dates the Father has set by his own authority. 8 But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”1. In this message we encounter what may be a familiar passage: David and Goliath. Although what we see may surprise us: this is a story about God's victory as He works through His servant to accomplish His plans. David held this perspective as he sought to bend his heart towards God's, and that 'Godward Perspective' gave him a different understanding, led to different actions and spoke different words than many around him. Drew outlines how David's Godward Perspective informs:- Where he looks for his IDENTITY- Who he trusts for his ABILITY- How he lives in his REALITYYou can watch this message via: https://youtu.be/u2Nk-43X1rc Hosted on Acast. It is a good day when we look at the book of Revelation, not to give ourselves over to the impossible and unhelpful pursuit of parsing and speculating over every prophetic detail, but rather to see in its visions impact and application to our lives now. Revelation has always been and is, “A call for the endurance and faith of the saints” (Revelation 13:10b.) As we get into Revelation 20:1-10 this Sunday, we'll see God finally and completely dealing with the problem of evil, and we'll witness the judgment of those who authored it, seeing the vindication of the victims of evil through the ages. We'll all be reminded that evil's best work is done in the shadows, through deception, but that its end is at hand and our hope of being free of it forever soon realized. The Revelation that John is seeing is building toward the exciting finale, the climax of all history! The millennium and the subsequent rebellion of humanity will prove that people cannot blame their sinfulness on their environment or unfortunate circumstances; in the final judgment, the decrees of God will be shown to be just and righteous. Discipling the Next Generation “Clarifying our Primary Task” Luke 2:21 2020-2030 is the Decade of Discipleship Obeying Jesus' command to “go make disciples” necessitates making disciples of each succeeding generation. Being a disciple… …who makes disciples… …who make disciples… Parenting IS discipleship. Every parent is discipling/training their kids. The question is: “training them to be & do what?” Parenting is “discipling the next generation.” Why does the Gospel of Luke even bother to mention circumcision? It was a physical sign of the covenant between God and the Jewish people. It was a part of God's overall training plan for His children. It was a custom to be observed in every succeeding generation. It was an act of parents obeying God. It was always done with naming the child. Identity: Who we are Belonging: Whose we are The lesson for us is not circumcision, but to see that: Jesus' parents were committed to parent Jesus like God had commanded. Jesus' parents provide a great model for godly parenting. The primary task of parenting: to nurture God-centered The primary task of discipling: to help someone become like Christ (the best model of a God-centered life.)

Growing up is, at least in part, a process of learning to ask, and learning to answer, certain fundamental questions. These include timeless queries such as “Who am I?” and “Why am I here?” Our sons, in particular, might ask themselves, “What does it mean to be a man?” and “What is the point of my life right now, given that I'm not a man yet?” Our boys' attempts to answer these questions, along with the answers those efforts yield, will lead them to a certain self-awareness—an identity of sorts. Ultimately, we want our boys to know themselves as they are: beloved sons of a Creator God who loves them deeply as a Father. Their lives, then, become an adventure of deepening in that awareness and of living accordingly. The earlier our lads can start down this path, the better. In this episode, our headmaster explores: How we all develop self-awareness How our boys, in particular, do this, especially by means of a “persona” How we, as parents, can foster a healthy persona in our sons. As the great sage, Yogi Berra, reminds us: you've got to be very careful if you don't know where you are going, because you might not get there. This advice is true enough, but we can add that if you don't get going, you never will. So, let us not be paralyzed by perfection. As we help our sons sail out of port, we can trust that with the help of good friends, good teachers, and the Good God Himself, it won't be too long before he finds himself—and, even better, gives that self away out of love for the other. Using Philadelphia's Septa railroad lines to illustrate how to trace symptoms of emotional disorder back to their origin, and why it's important. Identity: Who are you? Why is this difficult to know? How do you fix it? Mr. Loveless and the pencil in the ceiling. Crippling shame. This information was originally buried within a much longer episode. Identity - Who are we? Team sports stories … How do we answer that question? (as individuals only or as individuals within a group)? The problem of our identity in our culture .... How should we answer that question? In Christ … In the Body of Christ … In the Church … the family of God … etc. Those we love - are connected to eternally … John 15 - Love one another … a new commandment ... 1 Peter 2:4-5,9-10 - As you come to him, a living stone rejected by men but in the sight of God chosen and precious, you yourselves like living stones are being built up as a spiritual house, to be a holy priesthood, to offer spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ. But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for his own possession, that you may proclaim the excellencies of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light. Once you were not a people, but now you are God's people; once you had not received mercy, but now you have received mercy. Loving one another should be part of our group identity … May the Lord make your love increase and overflow for each other and for everyone else, just as ours does for you. (I Thessalonians 3:12) Dear friends, since God so loved us,w e also ought to love one another. (I John 4:11) --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/roguetabletalks/message

How do we cultivate our minds? Today, we'll tackle this question with the always-joyful Dr. Kathy Koch, a child development expert, long-time minister, and (new!) partner with Impossible Ministries! We'll especially be taking a look at "the eight smarts," which are: Word-smart: They think in words. When they're excited, they usually talk or write. They often thrive in school. Logic-smart: They think with questions. They ask more questions when they're excited. Usually, they like math and science, and they love things to make sense. Picture-smart: They think with their eyes, in pictures. Pay attention to color, design, where things are placed on a page. Art and creativity, fiction, history, and Bible are strengths of theirs. Music-smart: They think with rhythm and melodies. When they're excited, they hum or tap or dance. They go after the musical disciplines. Body-smart: They think with movement and touch. Love to experience life through movement. They may be athletic or artistic, culinary or theatrical. They are hands on, no matter what. Nature-smart: They think with patterns. They would rather be outside than inside. Their strengths are often in biology, meteorology, or earth science. People-smart: They think with other people. They brainstorm, collaborate, coordinate. When they are excited, they talk to others and get feedback. Self-smart: They think on their own. They reflect inside of themselves. When they're excited, they engage in more self-reflection. They are quiet but have a lot to say. Often counselors, teachers, salespeople. All of us have them at different levels, and everyone has a few that they excel in. These are connected with Dr. Kathy's take on the core needs (she has five): Security: Who can I trust? Identity: Who am I? Belonging: Who wants me? Purpose: Why am I alive? Competence: What do I do well? Give it a listen to see how you fit into all of this! I Highlights I “For me, it was wisdom that started [my relationship with Jesus], love that completed it—other people might have that in the opposite direction.” -Dr. Kathy Koch “We can pursue righteousness, and we should—but we don’t have to be perfect. And we have a loving, full-of-grace-mercy-and-hope-and-truth God who receives us when we mess up and acknowledge it.” -Dr. Kathy Koch “One of the questions is “Am I smart?” And I like to tell children the answer is always yes because God doesn’t make stupid people!” -Dr. Kathy Koch “Jesus did not die that you would have an abundant school experience. No! It’s abundant life! And life is abundant when ALL of life is abundant!” -Dr. Kathy Koch I Do the Next Thing I Check out Kathy Koch’s website to see her book, Eight Great Smarts, and more! https://celebratekids.com/books/ Watch this conversation! The four deepest questions in our hearts are those of Origins (Where did I come from?), Identity (Who am I?), Purpose (Why am I here?), and Destiny (Where will I end up?). On my own journey I had almost all of these wrong, resulting in me not really knowing my purpose. If we are to become a people of influence we need a good understanding of these crucial question. Whatever we do or not do, whatever we think, value or hate, how we behave and whatever we believe in or not in our life mainly depends on one thing: our worldview. An oversimplified analogy might be: Whenever we change our eyeglasses, our view of things around us changes because our eyeglasses determine what we are able to see or not to see. Everybody has a worldview. Rich or poor, smart or stupid, believer or non-believer. All things in our life depend on our worldview. Derived from the German word “Weltanschauung,” it refers to a belief system holding all significant concepts of our life such as God, cosmos, knowledge, behavior, values, humanity and history. It is like a kind of a grand perspective of our world and our life. In more scientific terms, worldview is a mental structure forming our ultimate beliefs. It provides a general context for life, including a vision of what we consider “authentic” or “real.” Having a peace of mind requires a well-balanced life, based on realistic assumptions of all basic and critical aspects of our human being. Philosophers identify the worldview as the “big question of life.” According to philosophers, our worldview should answer to the following most important questions of our life: 1. Ultimate reality: What kind of God, if any, in fact, the exists? 1. External reality: Is there anything beyond the cosmos? 2. Knowledge: What can be known – and how can anyone know it? 3. Origin: Where did I come from? 4. Identity: Who am I? 5. Morals: How should I live? 6. Values: What should I consider of the greatest worth? 7. Predicament: What is humanity's fundamental problem? 8. Resolution: How can humanity's problems be solved? 9. Past/Present: What is the meaning and direction of history? 10. Destiny: Will I survive the death of my body and if so, in what state? --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app
Not too long ago we talked about the fact that the word prosperity literally means “to go forward with hope.” Then, as you may recall, I challenged us to take some time to create a prospectus that inspires us to invest in the project that is our masterpiece lives such that we consistently MOVE FORWARD WITH HOPE. Then… I realized that this is pretty much exactly what we’re trying to do with our Coaches on a daily, micro-prospectus level via something we’re calling “Carpe Diem” journaling. Carpe Diem. Seize the day!! How? Create a micro-prospectus. How? Well, one way is via The Big 3 (x 2): Energy + Work + Love (x Identity + Virtues + Behaviors). In (very) short: Identity: Who are you at your Optimus best Energy + Work + Love-wise? Virtues: What virtues do you embody as you express your best in each of those Identities? Behaviors: What’s ONE thing that best version of you would do TODAY Energy + Work + Love-wise? That’s it. #carpediem You can do the whole thing in a minute by writing 9 words. Or, you can spend a few more minutes if you feel so inspired. Super simple micro-prospectus. When? Today. Tomorrow. The day after that. Stoke the fire of hope. And… Prosper! (btw: We’ll be unpacking this whole process a LOT more in our upcoming Mastery Series. For now, here’s a little one-page journal sheet you can play with. And, here’s Michael showing you how to rock it.)

My conversation this week is with Kara Powell. She's the is the executive director of the Fuller Youth Institute (FYI) and assistant professor of youth and family ministry at Fuller Seminary. She is also author of many books, including, "Growing With: Every Parent's Guide to Helping Teenagers and Young Adults Thrive in Their Faith, Family, and Future" Reflection: Kara says: “I want to be the goalie that keeps tough experiences out of my kids net, but often the best growth happens through those struggles.” What struggles are you trying to save your kids from these days? What might happen if we let them process those struggle on their own? Who can they become and we can we become if we allow our suffering to help us persevere, transform and grow? Kara says kids are asking three big questions: Identity- “Who am I?” Belonging- “Where do I fit?” Purpose- “What difference do I make?” Which of these questions do you see your kid asking these days? How is their sports experience helping them process the answer to that question? Kara talks about being a wall your child can come back to. When are you tempted to disengage with your teenager when they are separating from you in a normal and healthy way? Are there times you feel hurt by your child, even if it was unintentional? What can your kid learn from others on their team? What can they give to others on their team? As our kids enter their late teens and early twenties, we learn that giving unsolicited advice doesn't work. How do you show support for your kids even when they're making decisions you wish they weren't?
Show #561 Good morning, good afternoon and good evening wherever you are in the world, welcome to EV News Daily for Sunday 25th August 2019. It’s Martyn Lee here and I go through every EV story to save you time. Thank you to MYEV.com for helping make this show, they’ve built the first marketplace specifically for Electric Vehicles. It’s a totally free marketplace that simplifies the buying and selling process, and help you learn about EVs along the way too. AUSTRALIAN & NZ TESLA MODEL 3 DELIVERIES BEGIN! From Geoff Lowe, Director Infotools.com: "Hi Martyn, Just took delivery of one of the first two Model 3s in New Zealand. Another very happy looking chap started his induction just before me. I love it! Great delivery experience. I think the Tesla team were as excited as me!" Aaron Green @aaronrgreen: "Successful collection today at midday. We were the 5th NZ/AU car and 3rd performance. Just arrived in Hamilton have recorded all the experience so will edit and upload soon. Final stop Taupo tonight at destination hotel / charger." From John Horblow in New Zealand, because as I've just done news on Australia I feel that I should read out his email from Thursday: "Hi Martyn. We use to live in the UK, the brits alway took notice of their fravorite nephew Australia but never mentioned little chap New Zealand. You mentioned fast chargers in Australia last week & have mentioned aussie a number of times in the past. Have you ever checked out whats happening in NZ re our fast charger network? Zoom in on the map and take a look at whats under construction in the capital Wellington... https://charge.net.nz/map/ p.s. NZ EV community is 95% 2nd hand Japaneese and UK Nissan Leaf" TESLA STARTS SELLING MODEL 3 IN EASTERN EUROPE "Tesla has announced its expansion to Eastern Europe and opened sales for the Model 3 in selected countries. Electric car buyers in Poland, Romania, Slovenia and Hungary may now order their Tesla online." reports Electrive: ""An open question also remains, where and how Tesla will service these electric cars as the announcement came as a tweet with just the basic information. However, the opening of a Tesla store in Budapest is planned, and people in Poland have been buying Teslas for some time. A view on the Tesla map shows an open service centre in Warsaw indeed and one in the Czech capital of Prague as well." https://www.electrive.com/2019/08/25/tesla-starts-selling-model-3-in-eastern-europe/ NIO DELIVERED 673 ES6 IN JULY "NIO is still producing the all-electric ES6 in very small numbers. In its debut month (June) 413 units were sold, while in July 673 units were delivered to customers." according to Pedro at PushEVs.com: "What makes the all-electric NIO ES6 special is its 84 kWh battery pack made with NCM 811 battery cells from CATL. The battery pack has an energy density of 170 Wh/kg, which puts it on pair with the Tesla Model 3 (estimated at 168 Wh/kg)." https://pushevs.com/2019/08/24/nio-delivered-673-es6-in-july/ SHELL INSTALLS FIRST ABB EV FAST CHARGER IN SINGAPORE "Shell subsidiary Greenlots has installed an ABB DC fast charger in Singapore, the first of 10 to be installed at Shell stations in the country over the next few months." says CHargedEVs magazine: "Greenlots CEO Brett Hauser said, “Greenlots and Shell have been exploring synergies since we were acquired earlier this year. This project demonstrates our collective commitment to enable electrified transportation around the world, specifically in Singapore, where Greenlots was founded, and bolsters Greenlots’s expansion in Southeast Asia. Supporting Shell’s EV charging network in Singapore is a logical extension of the work we’ve been doing there to provide charging solutions at home, at work, for fleets and on-the-go.” However those chargers are just 50kW. https://chargedevs.com/newswire/shells-greenlots-installs-first-abb-ev-fast-charger-in-singapore/ TESLA’S SUPERCHARGER NETWORK DELIVERS INCREDIBLE 72 GWH OF ELECTRICITY IN A MONTH "Tesla has released a rare statistic about its Supercharger network. The automaker says that its fast-charging network delivered 72 GWh of electricity in just a month." says Fred at Electrek: "In 2014, about two years after the Supercharger network launched, Tesla had only delivered 10 GWh and could deliver about 72 MWh in a day. Over the last year, the Tesla Supercharger network has grown a lot, and the automaker now says that it can deliver 72 GWh in just a month." https://electrek.co/2019/08/25/tesla-supercharger-delivered-incredible-72-gwh-electricity-month/ QUESTION OF THE WEEK ANSWERS MSHunter • 4 hours ago Charge by minute makes sense for rapid chargers as it encourages people to not use them if they can't use the full available speed that the DC charger can provide. Though a few ac chargers should be available at all CCS /chademo charging locations for hybrid and ac fast charging vehicles Hitstirrer • 9 hours ago On the subject of the supply of electrons at public access stations, it's clear to me that all supply should be charged by the number of kWh's delivered. And for access and payment to be by contactless bank card as the default method. If the app fans insist on messing around more then by all means pander to their fetish as an additional system. But under no circumstances should more rational people be forced to jump through those kinds of hoops. alan baker • 1 day ago (edited) Agree with the comment of prices on Electric charge ( electric supply) points they should display the price per KW, and also enable payment by a standard bank RFID card. Just like a petrol pump. BP are doing this at the charge points at their petrol stations. Mark Fitzpatrick • 2 days ago I like charging by kwh but in ohio usa they charge by minute. 25 to 35 cents for dc charging. Thats right chademo is going no were and doesnt have too. I have no proplem with our combined chargers we have . CCS/chademo. 500,000 plus people driving leafs. We cant just go to nissan and get a ccs port installed. I love that they are installing 200 new 100 kwh dc chargers. The new leaf plus can take up too 100 kw. Stefan Weilhartner • 2 days ago no, i don't agree with only paying for the kWh on a charging station. you have to consider that a charging station is expensive and therefor if someone parks it's car on it without charging you block the company that owns it from getting back the investment. an it is important that the company that makes these charging stations get back the investment as soon as possible to have fresh money to build more and better charging stations! so everyone who parks on a charging spot, having an EV or not, charging or not has to pay the same amount of money per minute. and of course it should be expensive to park there so that no one blocks this spot. maybe around 5-10 euro per hour. on the other side the kWh then could be cheap - practically just forwarding the costs without benefit for the energy. that would encourage the users from that spot to NOT block tha ateeqn1985 • 3 days ago Question of the week.. Although charging by kWh is more transparent, I wouldn't categorically rule out other approaches particularly on rapids., ie. To avoid PHEVs blocking rapids, BEVs charging >90% on rapid. My home electricity bill comprises of a usage part and a fixed daily rate....not simply usage Ashley Hill • 4 days ago (edited) QOTW: disagree. The ongoing cost for a parking space is significant and some spaces are vastly more expensive to have an maintain due to security, multi level buildings etc. As an example, we are having an issue here in Australia (Wollongong from memory) where Tesla is only leasing two of the parking spaces at a supercharger location and the other ones (4?) have general parking even though there are fitted with superchargers. JOHN JOSEPH In many States in the US, EV charging stations are NOT allowed to charge by the KWH by the State Government. Only electric utilities are allowed to sell electricity by the KWH. My actual experience on Tesla superchargers shows that it is currently cheaper on the Tesla superchargers that charge by the minute. Use A better route Planner and you will see, for example, that Ohio which is by the minute is cheaper than West Virginia, which is by the KWH on an interstate trip. CHARLIE FOX Thinking about the question of the week. I totally agree with paying for what an EV 'downloads' into the car. However, electricity pricing changes at different times of the day and seasonally. Those changes could literally mean that the location you are getting the power from needs to do essentially instantaneous pricing. I would imagine you need to observe the pricing as you charge with the idea that you might stop the charging (or automatically) if the price is going to shoot up for the electricity. People may not like this aspect unless an app makes it easy. MARKUS LAFER Hi Martyn, There are too many single phase charging cars out there blocking charging ports if they pay only for kWh. Pay per time will push drivers to unplug after reaching 80%. By the way: is the unplugsticker.eu service known in UK too allowing to contact the owner anonymous and ask for releasing the charging port? WALTER MACVANE To understand why EV charging networks charge by the minute, you have to understand the background. In many jurisdictions there is only one Identity Who legally can sell electricity due to utility regulation. So in order to Deliver the energy required, they need to sell the service through infrastructure utilization. Whether that is a fee for parking or a fee for usage, as long as they are not directly selling Electricity. Some providers, in order to recuperate Energy costs, will charge higher rates for higher throughput. So the question of the week should be reworded as: “ should governments change regulations so that energy can be sold directly to consumers by charging networks?” EDUARD PERTINEZ 85% of petrol price in gas stations is pure petrol reselling, but then you are charged by many other things, such as convinience, service, servicing speed (amount of free pumps available), customer loyalty and many others. That other variables can amount to 7% to 30% of total cost of refuelling, so it means that some stations charge you 4 times more for the same gas. Paul begins the second chapter of his letter to the church at Ephesus by painting a picture of our absolute brokenness, but then reminds us that God loved us first. Special Guest Daniel Roach joins us to wrap up our series on the presence of God with the powerful truth at the heart of the Gospel! But God Loves First But God | Week 4 May 20, 2018 | Daniel Roach Ephesians 2:3-5 (NLT) All of us used to live that way, following the passionate desires and inclinations of our sinful nature. By our very nature we were subject to God’s anger, just like everyone else. But God is so rich in mercy, and he loved us so much, that even though we were dead because of our sins, he gave us life when he raised Christ from the dead. (It is only by God’s grace that you have been saved!) We are BROKEN Ephesians 2:1-3 (NLT) Once you were dead because of your disobedience and your many sins. You used to live in sin, just like the rest of the world, obeying the devil—the commander of the powers in the unseen world. He is the spirit at work in the hearts of those who refuse to obey God. All of us used to live that way, following the passionate desires and inclinations of our sinful nature. By our very nature we were subject to God’s anger, just like everyone else. Luke 16:15 (ESV) “And He said to them, “You are those who justify yourselves before men, but God knows your hearts. For what is highly esteemed among men is an abomination in the sight of God.” We are broken but God loves first. Ephesians 2:4 (NLT) But God is so rich in mercy, and he loved us so much, that even though we were dead because of our sins, he gave us life Romans 5:8 (NLT) But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Revelation 2:1-7 (NLT) Write this letter to the angel of the church in Ephesus. This is the message from the one who holds the seven stars in his right hand, the one who walks among the seven gold lampstands: "I know all the things you do. I have seen your hard work and your patient endurance. I know you don’t tolerate evil people. You have examined the claims of those who say they are apostles but are not. You have discovered they are liars. You have patiently suffered for me without quitting. But I have this complaint against you. You don’t love me or each other as you did at first! Look how far you have fallen! Turn back to me and do the works you did at first. If you don’t repent, I will come and remove your lampstand from its place among the churches. But this is in your favor: You hate the evil deeds of the Nicolaitans, just as I do. Anyone with ears to hear must listen to the Spirit and understand what he is saying to the churches. To everyone who is victorious I will give fruit from the tree of life in the paradise of God." Consequences of Grace Ephesians 2:8-10 (NLT) God saved you by his grace when you believed. And you can’t take credit for this; it is a gift from God. Salvation is not a reward for the good things we have done, so none of us can boast about it. For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago. Identity: With Christ/In Christ Identity: Who you are Participation: What you do On Cheap Grace: “It is baptism without the discipline of the community; it is the Lord’s Supper without the confession of sin; it is absolution without personal confession. Cheap grace is grace without discipleship, grace without the cross, grace without the living incarnate Jesus Christ.” ~ Dietrich Bonhoeffer Ephesians 2:8-10 (NLT) God saved you by his grace when you believed. And you can’t take credit for this; it is a gift from God. Salvation is not a reward for the good things we have done, so none of us can boast about it. For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago. Identity: Who you are Participation: What you do Consequences of Grace is Works What will you change? Ephesians 4:1 (NLT) Therefore I, a prisoner for serving the Lord, beg you to lead a life worthy of your calling, for you have been called by God. Ephesians 5:1 (NLT) Imitate God, therefore, in everything you do, because you are his dear children. Ephesians 5:8 (NLT) For once you were full of darkness, but now you have light from the Lord. So live as people of light! Ephesians 5:15 (NLT) So be careful how you live. Don’t live like fools, but like those who are wise. What will you change? What will you risk? “I have mostly white students at the seminary, and it is very easy for them to fantasize that they would be standing with King if given the opportunity. They idolize Dr. King without realizing the risk and suffering that was involved for the whites back then who dared cross the color line. People have fooled themselves into believing they can follow Christ and risk nothing. Have we fooled ourselves into thinking that true Christian spirituality can be developed without the risk of losing job security, personal safety or social status?” ~ Randy Woodley | Keetoowah Cherokee Pastor & Professor at George Fox Evangelical Seminary in Portland, Oregon Next Steps The rest of the letter to the Ephesians provides insight to how believers are to live in light of the consequences of grace. Choose a next step and discuss with a friend: Read Ephesians Twice This Week - What do you need to re-learn about God, grace, and Jesus’ work on the cross? * What needs to change in your life in order to align with these truths? Read Dr. King’s Letter from Birmingham Jail - How does faith and action overlap? * What must you risk in order to follow Jesus? Read Dietrich Bonhoeffer’s Life Together Learn more about his life and his call towards community Ephesians 1:18-19 (NLT) I pray that your hearts will be flooded with light so that you can understand the confident hope he has given to those he called—his holy people who are his rich and glorious inheritance. I also pray that you will understand the incredible greatness of God’s power for us who believe him.
I'm excited to welcome Leif Hetland back to The Shaun Tabatt Show to share about his latest book Called To Reign: Living and Loving from a Place of Rest. About the Book: Like most Christians, you long to fulfill your calling. You seek the inheritance God has promised you. And you work hard to serve Him well and enter into His rest. But what if your destiny is already within reach? What if you already have access to all the things He has promised? What if, instead of working for rest, you can actually work from rest? The world, including most of the church, is working hard in order to find peace and rest. That's why we see a constant cycle of restlessness around us. But we were designed to work from a place of rest, fully secure in our identity as children of God. This resting place is found in intimacy with the Father, where His family members experience complete acceptance and extravagant love. The resting place is there, available from God anywhere, anytime We are sons and daughters of a loving Father, not orphans trying to figure out who we are. We are called to reveal the true nature of God, and we cannot do that with an orphan mindset. When sons and daughters arise in the church, the world will begin to see the true nature of the Father and His family―a family that sees promises, not problems, and that reigns with Him! Using his well-known illustration of the three chairs, Leif Hetland explores the four pillars of this resting place, addressing four crucial questions: Identity: Who are you? Intimacy: Where are you? Inheritance: What do you have? Destiny: What are you called to do? The key to fulfilling your destiny is realizing the answers to each of these questions―in the order God designed for us. This book is will help you experience everything God wants for you by finding a resting place for yourself and becoming a resting place for Him. It is about an entirely different way to see and live, a way that refreshes, restores, and brings life. It is an invitation into the fullness and abundance that empowers you to do what you were called to do―to reign with Him! About the Author: Leif Hetland is founder and president of Global Mission Awareness. He ministers globally bringing an impartation of God's love, healing, and apostolic authority through a paradigm of kingdom family. A forerunner in modern-day missions, Leif has brought the gospel into the most spiritually dark areas of the world. Over one million souls have been saved through his ministry. He has written numerous books, including his best-sellers Giant Slayers, Seeing Through Heaven's Eyes and Healing the Orphan Spirit. It is about three things: · Identity: Who are we and where do we stand in the marketplace? · Influence: Understanding the dynamics between customers, team members, vendors and other people. · Impact: The higher purpose of your business. Having impact with your product and services, creating a value that is greater than just goods and services, and creating something mission driven for the community. 5. Do not confuse pleasure with happiness. Unhappy people can have pleasure. And uninterrupted pleasures are not happiness. Happiness is the result of knowing who you are, why you are here, and what you should do. We need identity, purpose, and adventure. Identity – Who am I? Purpose – Why am I here? Adventure – What will I do now? Selling is theater and each customer is an actor in that play. The marketing person – an ad writer – creates the storyline. The salesperson is the director, the narrator, the master-of-ceremonies and the usher. The customers sit quietly in the audience until they realize the play is about them. Are your customers sitting quietly in the audience? Your job is to entice them out of their seats. You want them to stand up and take action. You need them to storm the stage, perform their parts, walk on clouds of laughter, dance in the rain of the spotlight, revel in the thunder of applause. This play called Life should always be about identity, purpose and adventure. Make it about something else and your play is certain to be a parody, a tragedy, a satire or a farce. These are the motivations of the characters: Identity: Who am I? We buy what we buy to remind ourselves – and tell the world around us – who we are. We even choose our service providers based on how closely they mirror the way we would run their company. We're attracted to reflections of ourselves. A salesperson points out this reflection, “That's you, isn't it?” and then gives the intellect the facts it needs to justify the purchase. Win the heart and the mind will follow. Purpose: Why Am I Here? If you're sitting alone in the darkness, it's because you're afraid. Stand up fearfully, but stand up anyway. Flip the switch of the spotlight with a trembling finger and walk wobbly-kneed to center stage. We measure ourselves by our intentions but others measure us by our actions. Let your intentions become your actions and you will have stumbled onto your purpose. Quit thinking. Start doing. And whatever you do, do it with set-jaw determination. Your purpose will reveal itself soon enough. Adventure: What Will I Do Now? It is not the victory, but the audacity of the attempt that makes us feel alive. Small plans do not enflame the hearts of men. If your life's work can be accomplished in your lifetime, you're not thinking big enough. Waiting is a kind of dying. Indecision is a decision. When you let enough time go by as you wring your hands and say, “Well, I just don't know,” the opportunity will pass and your decision will have been made. Procrastination is the passive assassin of happiness. Opportunity has been knocking for a long time now. In fact, http://mondaymemo.wpengine.com/oct14 (it's pounding on your door) as you read this. Get up and answer it. Do something that scares you. What's the worst than can happen? Answer the door. It's showtime. Roy H. Williams
