Jim Donnelly is the CEO and founder of Restore Hyper Wellness, a company focused on "making hyper wellness affordable and accessible for more people." He is a serial entrepreneur and a highly experienced leader with a passion for helping others. Six or seven years ago he found himself training for a triathlon and, after a friend suggested cryotherapy, he decided to try it out, but was unhappy with the experience-putting it mildly! He thought he could do it better, and he certainly has! They began adding other medical modalities (they offer 10 currently), have 165 locations open, a corporate office with 200 employees, 700 more stores on a development schedule, and a $140 million dollar investment by General Atlantic partners to top it off! Part of their success stems from the fact that they've been very selective about their franchisees. They're continuing to aggressively expand with a new store opening every three to four days (as of this recording.) He states, "We've created a national infrastructure. We do it better than anybody else. We manufacture our own equipment. We're super excited about our place as the leader in this space. And our mission is to make hyper wellness affordable and accessible for more people so they can do what they love to do . . . I'm a much, much better entrepreneur today because of all of those things, including some of the failures. And I would say my superpower is that I'm self aware, I'm pretty egoless and I love bringing in people to help me." In this episode, Pete and Jim discuss: 1. What strategies they used from the beginning to ensure they had the right franchisees in place. 2. What procedures they've implemented to help them become the leader in the hyper wellness category. 3. How partnering with a private equity firm allowed Restore to make targeted, strategic investments and help them "control their own destiny." When John Klein, a HALO sector veteran with 20+ years of experience, launches a unique workout recovery franchise, he finds himself confronting the challenges of balancing "art and science" to ensure success while bringing a luxurious, experiential offering to market in highly competitive geographic areas. John's held positions at Town Sports International and Equinox, and is currently the Co-Founder of Pause Studio, a health and wellness franchise with six different service modalities and a team of experienced professionals. Three unites are currently open in Los Angeles with two more coming. This episode of HALO Talks talks a lot about franchise business strategies, real estate selection, and bringing a high-end concept into competitive markets. John, a 17+ year friend of host Pete Moore, discusses his experience in the health club space and the critical importance of real estate when it comes to franchise businesses. John and his team developed a playbook for selecting the best trade area and real estate for franchisees. He provides insight into the process of creating Pause, a franchise model that offers six different service modalities and various retail products. John and his team have almost 50 years of management experience in health, wellness, and brick and mortar studios, and they have created an experiential offering that provides value and a fair price. Regarding locations, he states, "There's the 50% art, and 50% science. Sometimes it's 70/30 or 30/70. But there is the art and the science, and there's the empirical data (which are the demographics and the psychographics), but then there's the anecdotal data, traffic patterns, future development, pent up growth in a market with future units or offices being built, , and psychological barriers. So you've got to do your due diligence. The empirical data . . . the demographic research, is kind of the divining ride to get you into a certain trade area, but then you really have to speak to the local residents and potentially do market surveys to really hone in and make sure you're making a smart real estate selection." In this episode, Pete and John discuss: 1. The playbook John created to help franchisees get the right location and maximize success. 2. How John's years of experience and unique "special sauce" has enabled him to launch a successful franchise model and raise almost 3 million in just 4 months. 3. Uncover the nuances of John's real estate selection process and learn how to optimize a location's success through data, empirical research and anecdotal information. This week's episode features an upcoming prospect. We don't mean a guy projected to develop into something special; we mean a diamond in the rough uncut gem. John Klein has only been pitching for four seasons, yet he recently signed with the Minnesota Twins. It all began with a chance to move to the mound in high school, which set his baseball career on a new trajectory. Like many Minnesota kids, John Klein grew up near Minneapolis and dreamed of being the next Joe Mauer. He spent his baseball career behind the plate until his coaches asked him if he wanted to toe the rubber going into his junior year of high school. Without any coaching, he was touching the high 80s. His coaches saw something special and told him that this whole pitching thing might turn out well for John if he was willing to do the work. Klein was drawing interest from small schools as a catcher, and then, late in his high school career, he started to draw some interest as a pitcher or in a split role. Moonlighter Coach Stein from Iowa Central was able to get Klein to make the trip south to Fort Dodge, and once he was on campus, he bought in. Iowa Central took the raw talent of a 6'5, 235lbs power pitcher and used analytics and data to shape him into a real pitcher. Working hard in the weight room helped him increase his power. Still, bullpen work with the Rapsodo machine helped him understand how to develop his control and go from a fastball/change-up pitcher to developing a curveball and, later, a slider. Now he is developing his understanding of control and pitch sequencing to become a complete pitcher. John Klein's plans went through a few tweaks before becoming a part of the Minnesota Twins system. He was initially heading to KState and the Big 12 but had to alter his course. Next up was a D2 school in Minnesota, but that only lasted about a week before he got the call from the Minnesota Twins and found himself heading to the Florida Complex League for Rookie Ball. As John Klein starts his professional baseball career, he'll be the first to admit that seeing his name on the back of a Minnesota Twins jersey is surreal.

A premium experience can make all the difference in a business. Not just the service itself, but even the smaller things, like the towel you use to dry yourself off or the architecture of the space. Pause took all of that into consideration, but not only is their experience fantastic, so is their service. They are a boutique fitness concept with seven modalities and retail to offer customers and franchisees. John Klein from Pause explains the new concept that franchisees can get in on the ground floor with today!
Are You Up to the Challenge? Christianity has always been radical—so radical that the first 33 Popes were martyred, along with countless men and women who recognized that the Gospel message was meant to change the world from the inside. 3:14 Regnum Christi Spotlight Featuring Luly Fernández Luly Fernández, currently living and serving in Washington, DC, hails from Monterrey, Mexico. In her 29 years as a Consecrated Woman in Regnum Christi, she considers each role in which she has served as a gift and a blessing and is grateful to Our Lord for providing her with so many opportunities. 6:38 Bringing College Students Closer to Christ in the Heart of Atlanta For Fr. John Klein, LC, who serves as a part-time chaplain at Georgia Tech, the invitation to spread the Gospel is key to engaging students in their faith: "Young people love a challenge, and a deeper purpose to their lives. Added in 1966 to American folklore was the Mothman, a creature or being that originally appeared in West Virginia. When it appears, it usually does so as a harbinger of death or disaster. Materializing as a humanoid being whose form looks similar to a man-sized moth, yet its manifestation is ominous. In 2002, the movie, THE MOTHMAN PROPHECIES, based off an experience by reporter John Keel arrived with great buzz. Washington Post reporter John Klein and his wife get into a car accident after viewing new homes. When she claims she saw the “mothman,” John begins to try to decipher this strange phenomenon. After his wife passes away from cancer, he becomes filled with melancholy and removes himself from others. Off on assignment, he can't explain how he landed up six hours away from his original destination. And soon he too may be in the grips of a supernatural being. The film stars Richard Gere along with a great cast including Laura Linney, Will Patton, Alan Bates, and Debra Messing. Though not the success Hollywood had hoped, the movie has gained a steady cult following and has for some arrived as a staple for Halloween. He’s one of the founders of Toxic Bag Productions, which in 1996 pioneered the field of sound effects specifically designed for use in tabletop roleplaying. Links Griffin Sound Design Toxic Bag Productions The Toxic Bag Podcast @griffinsound on Twitter Donny Who Loved Bowling on Bandcamp Show Notes Joe's company Toxic Bag has been producing audio products for use with tabletop roleplaying games since the 90s. It grew out of their desire to add an audio element to their home Call of Cthulhu campaigns. Initially they intended to produce audio-enhanced scenarios, but chaosium didn't have the budget for it. They stripped away the scripting and actors and focused on sound effects. They put together their first CD, the 20th century, in 1996. They would sell these physical CDs at GenCon. Back in 1996 mp3 formats were terrible. After a few years doing sound for film and theatre, they got back into RPG sound effects but aren't doing CDs anymore. Convention sales are difficult to manage when you're selling digital files, but the modern internet provides more distribution options. Now they sell through DriveThruRPG. Toxic Bag creates their effects through foley and field recording rather than relying on commercial libraries. Their podcast started out as coldly promotional, but they revamped it to provide more content, including sketches, reviews, interviews, and parodies. Joe does the sound design, his partner Steve Baldwin does the writing. I have appeared on the Toxic Bag podcast with my Burning Brigid Media co-producer Kat O'Connor Joe's day job is in advertising as a recording engineer. His marketing wisdom: People don't like being sold to. Make it a conversation. Promotion is okay, but if all you're doing on twitter is marketing yourself, people will tune you out. Reveal who you are. Put yourself into it. You need to have a thick skin to put your work in front of people. Joe composes music for theatre and toxic bag projects. He performs as part of the experimental band Donny Who Loved Bowling Joe is doing sound design for John Klein's short film Limerence. The kickstarter was successful and they're moving into post-production.

Keel) Música Tomandandy Fotografía Fred Murphy Reparto Richard Gere, Laura Linney, Will Patton, Debra Messing, Lucinda Jenney, Alan Bates Productora Lakeshore Entertainment / Screen Gems Género Thriller. JOHN KLEIN is a happily married director and cinematographer, lover of dogs, Instagram addict (@windycitycamera), and all-around happy dude. He has shot projects of all shapes, sizes, and budgets; whether it's short films like the neo-noir Fate Accompli or feature films such as the character-driven NightLights, or whether it's traveling around the globe for the Bangladesh documentary Strong Bodies Fight, or lensing the HBO GO web series "Single Long" in his hometown of Chicago, he's always eager to collaborate and tell unique stories in a visually dynamic style. John is also the executive producer of Glass City Films, a Midwest-based production company through which he has overseen as producer and directed several short and feature films, including the award-winning post-apocalyptic thriller Chrysalis, currently available both online and on DVD. Chrysalis screened at Shriekfest in 2014!
In this episode, Ian Gorton and John Klein discuss big data and the challenges it presents for software engineers. With help from fellow SEI researchers, the two have developed a lightweight risk reduction approach to help software engineers manage the challenges of big data. Called Lightweight Evaluation and Architecture Prototyping (for Big Data), the approach is based on principles drawn from proven architecture and technology analysis and evaluation techniques to help the Department of Defense (DoD) and other enterprises including avionics, communications, and healthcare develop and evolve systems to manage big data.
