Some of her fondest childhood memories involve long afternoons at the library and then reading late into the night. More than ten years ago, she began journaling about the books she read and turned that passion into writing about books. Her first forays were as a guest reviewer on a friend's blog, but she soon realized she wanted to be reviewing and talking about books on a blog of her own. From there, Novel Visits was born. That was in 2016 and, though the learning curve was steep, she loves being a part of the book community. Novel Visits focuses on new novel reviews (print and audio), previews of upcoming releases, and musings on all things bookish. Next Episode In two weeks (October 30), Catherine and I will be back with our Fall 2024 Circle Back episode.
Lee Cole joins Hanle, standing in for Jan-Willem on #AfternoonDrive to chat about his latest release "Headrush".
Lee Cole'snew single "Headrush" explores the exhilaration of reliving memories with someone you love, with a higher-energy vibe that represents a departure from Cole's usual style. "I think in the process of writing this album, I've been inspired to step out of my comfort zone and to try styles, genres, and sounds I wouldn't normally experiment with. “Headrush” is one of those songs where I really extended my creativity in a different direction," he said. Despite this exploration, the song retains Cole's signature sound, a blend of pop with traces of R&B/Soul. Cole describes "Headrush" as a song that feels good and hopes fans will connect with its lightness and energy.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Lee Cole is set to captivate audiences once again with his emotionally-stirring vocals and profound lyrics. "Blind" is a song that has been in the works for quite some time, and it revolves around the idea of vulnerability and openness in relationships. In this day and age, there's a growing sentiment that many people have started to hold back and not fully open up in relationships, and this song delves into that”, says Cole.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Since we want everyone to be able to learn from our Patreon series on the 1992 "Titangate" sex and drug scandals in WWE, want to be able to direct everyone to the shows, and don't want to give anyone the idea that we're trying to make money off of the awful new lawsuit against WWE, we're releasing all four Titangate shows for free. Permanently. We're really proud of the work we did on these, and we hope that everyone can learn from them.---Content warning: By necessity of covering this topic, though it is not the sole focus, this episode contains discussion of sexual harassment, sexual assault, and child sexual abuse. This time, it's part 3 of a series on what became known as Titangate, the overarching collection of scandals that hit the WWF in 1992. The topics include:A Current Affair covering the scandals, which included, at the last minute, a letter that Murray Hodgson sent Vince McMahon out of the blue looking for work…while he was suing the WWF. Also: The production of the segment leads to an incredibly strange, forgotten Wrestling Observer item about someone claiming to be a former wrestler going to different shows with conflicting versions of what he said Rita Chatterton told him about Vince McMahon…before disappearing. How the scandals begat John Arezzi and Vince Russo splitting as business partners, with both giving their sides in material that we didn't have when we did the “Vince Russo Origins” show a few years ago.John Arezzi and Bill Kunkle writing about their memories of Mel Phillips' red flags going back to the mid-1970s.Sid Justice getting suspended for cheating on a drug test.Steve Planamenta word vomiting to Mike Mooneyham about the successes and failures of the drug testing program so far.Lee Cole accusing the WWF of trying to get him sent to prison.Tom Zenk and Jim Ross's thoughts on Titangate, including Zenk revealing for the first and only time that he left the WWF over a vaguely-described incident of sexual misconduct, as well as an overly glib Barry Orton interview where he goes off on Tom and Lee Cole.Vince McMahon benefitting from how many different stories were being shoved into one overarching “WWF scandals” box.The WWF repeatedly airing matches with Mel Phillips doing ring announcing during this period. All that and much more on the latest installment of a series that's become increasingly relevant in 2022 over the last few weeks.Timestamps:0:00:00 Week of April 27, 19920:44:06 Week of May 4, 19921:38:52 Weeks of May 11 & May 18, 19922:08:36 Week of May 25, 19923:14:58 Weeks of June 1 & June 8, 1992To support the show and get access to exclusive rewards like special members-only monthly themed shows, go to our Patreon page at Patreon.com/BetweenTheSheets and become an ongoing Patron.

Ken and Carla review the situation in Ukraine and then turn to the Judiciary Committee hearings with Supreme Court nominee, Ketanji Brown Jackson. Ken expresses relief that he left the republican party years ago. The grandstanding and political theater betrays a complete abandonment of democratic norms, all played out on the world stage. Turn's out, Robin D'Angelo's analysis of white fragility is playing out in the Senate chambers. Lindsey Graham violates the constitution by giving the judge a "religious test." Ted Cruz brings in Ibram X. Kendi's children's book to press the judge on Critical Race Theory. Tom Cotton and Josh Hawley attempt to promote the spurious notion that the judge gives concessions to criminal pedophiles. Marsha Blackburn asks the judge to define "woman," and when the nominee properly defers, she accuses her of being the kind of liberal who will destroy families and the nation's children. The judge will in all likelihood be confirmed. This episode was recorded as day 2 brought more of the same. The nominee stood strong against a barrage of mansplaining. Secretary Pete represents a different approach. Ken shares his current reading: Groundskeeping by Lee Cole. Lee Cole grew up in Kentucky and set his debut novel, Groundskeeping, in his childhood home. He joins Marrie Stone to talk about establishing a strong sense of place within the novel, tackling dialect, and the physical and psychological distance required to write about home. As a graduate of the University of Iowa's MFA program, Cole talks about the lessons he learned there, including the importance of staying in scene, establishing a strong sense of interiority in his characters, and more. The novel Groundskeeping is about a young man, trying to find his way in the world, who falls in love with a young woman from a very different background. The story covers less than a year in their lives, but the scope of the novel is much larger.
Lee Cole's debut novel Groundskeeping explores the political, socioeconomic and educational divisions that we're all too familiar with. But, Cole says he hopes readers realize we have more in common than we think.
On this episode of Marginalia, KMUW's Beth Golay visits with Lee Cole about his debut novel, "Groundskeeping," which also doubled as a homecoming of sorts for the author.

All the world's a stage. If only that actually were true. It might just be a more respectful place. The truth is that the medium of theater is a very particular thing. It's an art form woefully underserved when shown via other media. The theater is about history. It's about context. It's about a very truly ancient understanding of how things will go. People show up to a space. The lights go down. And then, for whatever length of time, there is an agreement. There is a decorum. The audience holds space – and holds their tongue to a certain degree – while stories unfold. You may agree. You may disagree. There is, of course, response (applause, laughter, etc…) and regardless you sit in the dark until it has finished and at the end, there is time to discuss. Good theater is about more than a story. Good theater is about shining a light on where we've been, where we are, and perhaps where we may go. Few theater companies understand the depth and breadth of history like SOHO Playhouse. This venerable Off-Broadway theater sits literally in a spot steeped with history from the very start of the United States. Darren Lee Cole, the Producing Artistic Director of SOHO Playhouse speaks all about their historic context and the very exciting expansion for them to what might at first, feel like an unlikely place – Las Vegas, NV. In 2021, in partnership with a local developer, SOHO Playhouse announced that they will be driving the revitalization of the historic Huntridge Theater. In this conversation, Darren talks about the place theater plays in the world, the move to Las Vegas and lessons about boundaries from a cat named Chris. What does leadership actually mean in today's world? Good questions, right? That's what Cathy Brooks, thought. And it's why she created Talk, Unleashed – a new podcast of entirely candid conversations with fascinating people doing remarkable things. This weekly podcast will feature guests from arts and entertainment to business to technology to food to activism to politics (well, we'll see on that last one). Talk Unleashed invites these influencers to consider the things that have led them to where they are, the lessons they've learned, and how all those things can come together to create a better world. #theater #offbroadway #huntridgetheater #sohoplayhouse #hamilton #aaronburr #leadership #TalkUnleashed #UnleashedConversation #UnleashedLeadership #FixYourEndofTheLeash

On Saturday, 17 April 2021, Carl called up Lee Cole on the Kfm Top 40 - the only chart in the country to have charted all three of Lee's releases last year - to find out about his new single, 'Honey, Let Me In'.
