Motherhood has taught me what I'm mentally and physically capable of, as well as what I still need to work on. Motherhood has shown me a love I have never felt before, but also fear I have never felt before. Motherhood has brought me many beautiful moments, and moments full of tears but most of all. I have learned that grace has been something I must try to put in the forefront. In this episode, I get raw, real, and unfiltered!
We broke up with our baby's pediatrician after our very first appointment and here's why....In this episode, I share how one appointment led to a harmful statement, many tears, and a huge feeling of failure in the vulnerable place we were already in, as new parents. After hours of searching for answers, validation, and other In-Network providers, I found our new pediatrician! Breaking up is not easy, but it is worth it when you're advocating for yourself AND your children!

Becoming pregnant and having a baby can be one of the best times of a person's life, especially for first-time moms. However, pregnancy can also be an extremely stressful and difficult time. Yes, from the initial stages of getting pregnant, to eventually giving birth to a real-life human being, the whole ordeal can be pretty tough. Therefore, it is even more important to be respectful and thoughtful to those who are expecting a baby.Listen. When talking to a pregnant woman, let her lead the conversation. If she doesn't volunteer information about her weight, due date, sex of the baby, number of babies, etc. etc. …DON'T ASK!! Sometimes you just have to accept that it really is none of your business. If there's still any doubt, then you can refer to this podcast episode, where I share the sh*t you just don't say to a pregnant woman!
In this Episode, I take you back to compare the former Brie to the blossoming mother Brie. I share past experiences, lessons that I have learned, and what I hope to see in the future. I share how I will no longer be resisting change, because of its self-sabataging nature, and how I am going to ride the waves of life and let it take me to wherever I am meant to go. (Including the physical places, as we are still unsure if we will be in Oregon or Arizona?!)I leave with the best advice I can give when it comes to the fear of change and how to take it on because after all-- with all of the travel and changes that we have had. I know how fearful it can be to go into the unknown, but I also know what it's like to be on the other side and see the beauty that comes from it too.

This last year has been an interesting journey. I learned a lot about myself and I'm grateful to everyone who shared my journey with me. But I now find myself struggling between my family's needs and my endeavors. And if you've been listening to the podcasts or watching the vlogs for a while, you'd know that my family will always come first. So sadly, Older Moms' journey must come to an end.

I really found being a preemie mom to be a very isolating experience. People expected me to act like everything was "normal," even when facing so many challenges. While we eventually adjusted to our preemie reality, I wish someone had told me sooner to be patient with myself, my husband, and my family. So if you're new to the preemie game, allow others to help you. At the very least, you'll know somebody is going through this with you.
A list of parenting quotes for smart parenting styles. From encouraging schoolwork and sports to modeling values as a child grows (remember, they do as you do, not as you say!) parents exert enormous influence over their children's lives. They are, however, not the only on-the-ground influencers—especially after children enter school and begin interacting with the world at large. Most parents work to give children the best start possible, but it's also important for parents to recognize that kids come into the world with their own temperaments, personalities, and goals. While parents may want to push their child down a certain path, a parents' job is to provide an interface with the world that ultimately prepares a child for complete independence and the ab Spoken by my virtual assistant ility to pursue whatever path they choose. In a rapidly changing world, parenting can be subject to fads and changing styles, and parenting in some privileged circles has become a competitive sport. But the needs of child development as delineated by science remain relatively stable: safety, structure, support, and love.I have consolidated a group of quotes focusing on how to parent in 2021. I hope you learn and sometimes laugh.

Did you know that 1 in 4 women have a miscarriage? It’s a heartbreaking thing that happens more often than we think. Although it is starting to be talked about more, it is still not talked about enough and that’s why Stephanie feels like she needs to continue to open up about her experience with miscarriage. In this very vulnerable episode, Stephanie shares her story about her two miscarriages. She shares what her body went through and also how hard it really was. But she talks about how her strength came from sharing her story more. Stephanie believes that miscarriage needs to be talked about for the mental health of the mom. She breaks down everytime she hears about someone who has a miscarriage because it takes her back to her experience and she hates that anyone else has to feel and go through that. I appreciate Stephanie’s bravery and strength. Her willingness to share will hopefully continue to help moms out there who have had a miscarriage. I had some time recently to read about my younger mom years. I have always liked to journal, but since being married and especially after having kids, I just didn’t do it as much. But the little I did write, I am grateful I did! I was reminded of some things that were really important to me when it came to be a home. Honestly, some things I had forgot. And I thought..I can still change and be a better mom, but I am also doing better than I thought. In this episode, I just wanted to remind you that you are doing a great job. That you are important and what you do it important too. I think it’s important that we aren’t so hard on ourselves as a mom and as a person. Being negative in our heads can come out sometimes. We are just too dang hard on ourselves. So in the season of love, I want you to remember to love yourself. As a mom and as an individual person. I would love for you to write for yourself on a paper that you feel really confident in as a mom TODAY. You’re doing better than you think. Info about Haili: I am now doing Podcast Strategy Calls! I JUST WANT FIVE MINUTES OF PEACE AND QUIET FOR THE LOVE OF EVERYTHING HOLY! Too much?! Too crazy for ya? I doubt it. You’ve been there, I know you have. As a mom, you have the right to be imperfect, to be aware of and fulfill your needs, and change, emerge, and expand in new directions. Say WHAT?! Did you know this? In this episode, Jen and I talk about the Assertive Bill of Rights -- a resource her counselor gave her as she was healing from an abusive marriage. It was a major wakeup call for her, and when she shared them with me, we both knew we couldn’t NOT share them with you. A whole list of mini permission slips to be who you are, show up strong, and live a healthy life. Why do we struggle with this? And why does it matter? My guess is that you struggle with some of these because you’re believing a lie (or lies) about who you are. You aren’t living what’s true about you. And that may be because you don’t know how to get there! I get it, because I’m right there in the trenches with you.The mental load we carry, the relationships we manage, and the expectations on our hearts and minds keep us feeling overwhelmed, stuck in the comparison trap, and just feeling like we’re not enough all around. And I think that’s wrong. So wrong, in fact, that my team and I are working hard to create an online community where we can fight for our value, voice, and identity — together! “One day you’ll set him down, and never pick him up again.” Cue ALL.THE.TEARS. Want more tears? What about the fact that you’ll never know when that moment is. Ugh. I can’t even write about this without curling up into the fetal position. Listen, Jen and I talk about this reality in this conversation. We give a little loving advice to the veteran moms who have already experienced this. And mostly, we talk about how important it is to stay present in the moment. Allowing ourselves to feel everything we feel, not wishing away time, but not living in the past or worrying about the future. Do you sometimes get stuck on the negative changes in your body since having kids? Do you talk unkindly to yourself in your head about the way you look? I’ve done it. I told you all I would get legit, well here it is. I don’t like to talk about this topic much because it hits home right now. This hasn’t been my year of good health habits and my confidence in myself has weakened. But you ladies asked for this topic and I didn’t want to shy from a topic that is probably sensitive for a lot of people to talk about. Legit motherhood is all about opening up about those real and raw parts of motherhood that are hard, but needed to be talked about. This episode gives you some new insight into how you can look at your body in a more positive way. I give you some new mindset phrases to tell yourself and read an amazing quote from a recent Instagram post I saw from @comefollowmedaily. It’s not easy to change our minds about ourselves, but it can be done. You can change the way you see yourself in all its stages. Our bodies change after having kids. It’s part of the evolve of our motherhood. So why are we so hard on ourselves? I hope this episode helps remind you of your beauty and worth outside of a look or numbers. I think you are beautiful. Believe it yourself. Quote from IG post from @comefollowmedaily Come join us in the Legit Motherhood Community Facebook Group for a planning party to get pumped for 2021. Fear is what can’t be trusted. The one and only podcast in this series not based on a song. It’s the scene where Elsa sees what happened with her grandfather – it was HIM! He said, “Magic cannot be trusted.” And Elsa replies, “That’s fear. Fear is what can’t be trusted.”She is so right. Fear cannot be trusted. And Jen and I talk allllll about this and more in the podcast episode. We talk about how we choose anxiety over peace. We choose fear over love. We choose peacekeeping over peacemaking. So whether it’s parenting, relationships, careers, or just plain life -- choose wisely. Don’t listen to the voice of fear. It cannot be trusted. 2020 has been hard on moms in a LOT of ways...but one thing for sure is that the mom isolation we normally feel...felt even more isolating this year. I’ve been there! I haven’t felt this isolated since the newborn stages. In this episode, I talk about mom isolation and why we sometimes feel that way. I also talk about how we can overcome some of those feelings and how we can better support each other! We all need that mom support in some way. The instant classic (and, for many, a welcomed replacement for “Let It Go!”) Into the Unknown. Oh Elsa. What a powerhouse. Thank you for this heart-cry, because it’s so relatable, especially as we sit here in 2020, celebrating the 1-year anniversary of Frozen II, while also celebrating the fact that the world’s strangest year is finally coming to a close.2020 was the year of a lot of things, but if we stay positive, we can certainly say that for many of us, it was the year of the pivot. Some forced pivots, some chosen pivots, some it’s-now-or-never pivots. And so right now, as you’re reading this, I wanted to allow Elsa’s posture in this beautiful song to encourage you.If you’re feeling unsettled or stuck or wild and crazy about this strange year, stressful season, or mandatory pivot – ask God those questions! Start there! You’ll notice, it’s not in Elsa’s defiant posture that she launches the journey to find, ultimately, who she was created to be. It was in her vulnerability.Watch, listen, share -- and let us know what you think! A first in a 5-part series honoring the one year anniversary of Frozen II -- everyone’s favorite quarantine classic. Jen and I, I mean, Elsa and Anna, take us on a journey through the song, "Some Things Never Change." We talk in-depth about how poignant it is that while all of the characters sing about all of the things that change around them, they always come back to the truth that some things never change. Some things actually are constant. Now, I would love to hear Anna sing about this in 2020, but even in this wild year, I think she’d agree with me that in our ever-changing world, in our ever-changing culture, in our ever-changing everything, the only thing we need to not change won’t. It’s a guarantee. And that never-changing One is God.He is the One who never changes. The Bible says that He is the same yesterday, today, and forever, and has countless other scriptures about the character of God being steadfast, consistent, and never-changing. So listen, watch, share -- all the things -- with your Frozen and Frozen II fans, and everyone on the whole planet who needs to hear exactly how wonderful our Heavenly Father is.*In an effort to serve you best, this podcast is both audio AND video, so make sure you subscribe to our YouTube channel and the podcast itself, wherever you get your podcasts!*LISTEN:iTunes Podcast - https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/i-am-mother-of-the-year podcast/id1525025238Spotify - https://open.spotify.com/show/2Y4aWbXEPsFpP2gw3GloSK?si=RA3VMy8uTlGcoEkpHITFhQ FOLLOW:Facebook - https://www.facebook.com/iammotheroftheyearFacebook Group for Moms - https://www.facebook.com/groups/iammotheroftheyearInstagram - https://instagram.com/iammotheroftheyearJOIN LISA'S PATREON COMMUNITY:https://patreon.com/iammotheroftheyearCONNECT:https://www.iammotheroftheyear.comSupport the show (https://www.patreon.com/iammotheroftheyear)
Sine recently created a blog post about her experience with depression and anxiety during her pregnancies. I loved her post so much and her openness that I wanted to get her on the podcast. She talks about how she found hope in a dark time and what helped her, but that ultimately everyone’s experience is different. She hopes that sharing her experience lets other mom’s know that they are not alone if they have gone through this. She also hopes that opening up about her experience will help those who may not struggle with mental illness know how to support their loved ones who do struggle. Her strength and realness is inspiring. If you are suffering with any form of mental illness, please ask for help. You don’t have to do this alone. Sine owns and runs a custom watercolor art business, Sine Bentley Art. Reading was her only hobby for most of her life. She has since ventured into other things, it took a while. She really loves creating in any capacity, listening to podcasts, working out at the gym without her kids haha, travel, hiking, and connecting with people. Sine, pronounced "See-neh", was born and raised in beautiful Durban, South Africa. She moved to the United States 8 years ago, after having met and married her husband. She has four kids, all wild and sweet boys. Their ages range from 2 months to 7 years old. Who do you compare yourself to? Who in your life do you feel like you need to prove yourself to? Is it the mom next door who always seems to look put together? “Am I even speaking?” “Maybe I’m invisible.” “Is all of this mothering worth it?” And they are valid questions. Between the constant busyness and daily chaos and the sleepless nights up with the kids or worrying about the kids--it can be REALLY hard to see that we’re making a difference as moms. Not making a difference by changing the entire world, but in the consistencies of who we are and how we love. Do you ever feel super overwhelmed by the mess in your house? Do you feel like you can never keep up and your house can never look perfect?! Well, this episode should give you some major mom freedom in recognizing the meaning of the mess and creating an intentional home. This interview with Carly Thornock is so uplifting and inspiring on how you can look at the mess in your home and find purpose but also how to create a space that works for your family! We talk about embracing the mess, truly picking the ONE priority in your home that’s most important and creating your whole home around that one priority! This episode is legit about how your home does not have to look perfect to feel like a home that works for your family. Carly is the interior designer and marriage and family scholar behind the company Intentional House, where she helps mamas use their HOUSES to maximize their daily happiness (say what?) and rock their family relationships.Though she finds creating stunning homes to be super fun, Carly's true joy is in (un)designing... putting together spaces that prioritize family connection, with beauty and functionality as natural consequences. Carly and her husband Chase live with their three boys in Utah. There is never a dull moment around the Thornock home, and for that reason they intentionally select dull corners on all their furniture. In this interview with Sonja Thompkins, you will get a new perspective on how we talk to our kids about race, how we can support each other as moms, and a good laugh as she talks about her legit motherhood experience. She gives great insight into how we can better teach and expose our kids to different races and experiences. She mentions it’s important that we don’t focus on the problem, but we need to focus on how to keep the problem from existing. A lot of what our kids learn is by watching us. Our actions are crucial in how our kids see how we react with others. I love Sonja’s openness in helping us recognize that we can meet each other where we are in discussing these topics and that there are some things that are universal no matter what our race, religion or ethnicity. Sonja Thompkins is a practical empowerment coach and business strategist who’s dedicated to helping women & female entrepreneurs create more fulfillment in their lives and businesses. Her motto is think big, start small and practice with precision. An entrepreneur for over 20 years she has mastered the art of pivoting her businesses to meet both industry challenges and personal shifts like marriage and motherhood and teaches these strategies in her coaching programs and podcast The Sonja Thompkins Show. When she's not working with ambitious entrepreneurs she's a wife and homeschool mom to her seven year old son. Supporting a spouse no matter what they are trying to achieve or what their career is, can be a tough ride. I love this chat with one of my good friends from college, who has been a med-student wife while her husband has been in medical school and doing his residency the last few years. her husband has been in medical school and doing his residency the last few years. This episode is SOOO good whether you 100% relate to Hannah’s situation or not. She talks a lot about how to make time for your spouse when real life gets busy with jobs and kiddos. She also talks a lot about navigating yourself as you might have to work, be mom, and try to have time for the things you love, while supporting your spouse. I love how she also touches on the transition of moving and how to meet new people everywhere you go and how important that support really is. Seriously, this episode is just beautifully said and very legit! Hannah is a mama, medical wife, and marketer living in the suburbs of Washington DC. She, her husband, Phil, and their two year old daughter moved east after Phil graduated from the University of Washington Medical School in Seattle in 2019. With everything being different in our world right now, it’s always nice to learn ways we can help our kids feel less scared with everything going on. One way we can do that is through understanding how to explain, support and help our kids cope during medical experiences. In this episode I chat with Kara Kimball, certified Child Life Specialist, who gives some great tips on taking kids to the doctor, helping your kids through COVID and so much other great advice! Kara reminds us, “Remember that the WHY is most important when talking about going to the doctor. Don’t just tell them what is going to happen, but what it’s going to do for your child to help them.” Kara, a Utah native, is a certified child life specialist with a BS in Family Life with an emphasis in Human Development. She worked at The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia in several different departments before moving to California and deciding to stay home with her three young children. Kara started Child Life Saver to empower parents to help their kids cope during medical experiences. You are listening to the last episode of a 3 part mini series to help support you during this unique time of the COVID-19 pandemic. In this episode, we chat with my friend Alyson Peterson who talks about STEM activities she does with her kids and her business the WINKLE which was inspired by one of her kids! Alyson was born and raised in Arizona. She has 4 very creative and active kids. She has a background in teaching art and a bachelors of fine art degree. I started the Winkle because I wanted to help moms make me be better prepared and able to teach their kids at home. From personal experience, my kids don’t like reading instructions, so I knew I had to have video instructions. There’s a lot of pressure to do things and make things with our kids that people see on Pinterest or Instagram. So I wanted to take all of those things and make them accessible to busy moms. I’m offering a coupon right now that gives 10% off your order. GIVEME10. She also hosts live events on her FB group The Winkle Crate. Are you still in shock that not just a mom dealing with kids home during a pandemic, but you are now their teacher too?? I asked my friend Erin Weist to come on because she has homeschooled her kids for 8 years and now most of her kids are in public school, well they were. Haha She talks about how what we are doing is nothing like homeschool or public school. Doing school at home right now in these circumstances just isn’t the normal way to learn...and that’s ok! Erin gives great tips and helps you see that you really are doing a good job so don’t freak out! This episode will help you feel so much better about yourself! Erin Weist is a native of Utah who is proud of her pioneer heritage and the stunning mountains in her home state. With a degree in English she took to digital work while living around the world, in both England and Malaysia, as she and her handsome husband grew their family to include 5 amazing kids. (Ask her sometime about delivering her daughter in a Malaysian hospital!) After homeschooling her kids for 8 years she wanted to spread her reach to working women and encourage their aspirations, so she created Aspire Her, a community for working women focused on creating networks, mentors, and valuable resources for working women at all stages. This week on the Single Mom Tribe, I connected with Lisa Verlo whose written and produced her One Woman Show in the Hollywood Fringe Festival - Hollywoodn't - She was an early voice heralding the 'Me Too' movement and in her show has developed many pieces that explore the grey areas between consent and coercion. We discuss how her experience in this industry has shaped the way in which she raises her son; and how her passion for her career helped her to dedicate time to building a community in which supported her growth, self-development and creative endeavors. Lisa is a huge fan of Mastermind groups and believes that we as mothers should create the community that we are called to, because support on this journey is essential, as we've all come to realize, it takes a Village... so why not build our own?Lisa has 2 shows left this month - One today, Saturday - June 22nd and the Grand Finale is LIVE on Wednesday - June 26th... A refreshing conversation with Lindsay Benjamin, the Maternal Badass and founder of Unmasked a program empowering women to authentically reclaim their power and personal freedom! Bri has the honor of connecting with an inspiring woman and mother that she met in 2017 while in a business coaching program, these two women found themselves in very similar phases of their lives having the desire to chase their dreams, while feeling trapped in unhealthy relationships and unfulfilling careers, and the demise of that secure income when lay-offs left them both unemployed. Tune is as we explore how she Unmasked the truest version of herself, and today she will share just how she overcame the heartache of divorce, rose from the ashes of her devastation and started her life anew as the woman that she was always meant to be! Lindsay is a first timer to the Podcasting world and will definitely be a feature on future episodes as she has so many resources to share with women and single-mothers as it pertains to helping women take off their masks so they can step into their authentic power and break free from a life they created around other people’s standards!Connect with us Directly - Lindsay: IG @maternalbadass FB: Lindsay Benjamin Bri Camille: IG @iam.wildheart & @lovewildheart (www.lovewildheart.com)
