Steve and I talk about a phrase we come back to often:This too shall pass. Not as a way to dismiss what we're feeling or to bypass the hard stuff. But as a reminder that life is always moving, changing, shifting, and unfolding. We speak about how so much of our suffering comes from fighting reality. Arguing with what's happening. Wishing it were different. Complaining about it, resisting it, trying to control it. And how exhausting that can be.We share what helps us move from resistance into acceptance. Not liking what's happening. Not approving of it. Just accepting that it is what it is.We also talk about the tendency to fall into absolute thinking when life feels uncertain. The "always," the "never," the "nothing's going to change," the stories we tell ourselves when we're scared, overwhelmed, or trying to regain a sense of control. This conversation is about learning to be okay with the not-okayness of life. About trusting that difficult seasons don't last forever. And about remembering that sometimes the greatest relief comes not from changing your circumstances, but from accepting them.IN PERSON EXPERIENCES, MelbourneOne-day retreat in Balnarring - June 12th, 2026Sunday Meds - June 21st, 20261:1 COACHINGOne-time 75 minute coaching call - secure your spot hereRead my book, Authentic - coming home to your true self - AUS, EUR, USAWrite into us - let us know what you want to hearWelleCo - use code KAT15 for 15% off welleco.com.auwww.katjohn.com.auSupport the show

In this episode of Business on Top, I'm sharing Leadership Lesson #4: Your Partner Cannot Support a Vision They Don't Understand, a conversation about communication, advocacy, and what it really looks like to build alignment inside a relationship while pursuing ambitious goals. This episode is also Part 2 of the ALT husbands panel we shared last week, where we continue the conversation with an honest look into what support, trust, and partnership actually look like behind the scenes of building big businesses and ambitious lives together. I open up about the early days of building KLC, including the emotional weight of investing our personal savings into a brand-new business, navigating uncertainty inside my marriage, and the conversation that shifted my husband from skepticism to support. From leaving a lucrative corporate career to investing in mentorship before the results existed, this episode explores what it looks like to ask someone to believe in a vision they cannot fully see yet. This conversation feels especially important for women stepping into new levels of leadership, income, and influence inside their households,  often without a roadmap for how partnership evolves alongside ambition. In the second half of the episode, we continue the ALT husbands panel and go deeper into: What support actually looks like during seasons of growth How couples navigate financial and emotional uncertainty together Building trust while one person is actively scaling a vision Why communication creates alignment far more effectively than justification If you are building something meaningful, pursuing a bigger vision, or navigating growth inside your relationships, this episode is a reminder that people trust your vision more deeply when they can feel that you trust it first. 214 If you've ever felt unloved, unseen, or emotionally unmet in your relationship…even while knowing your partner probably does care about you… this episode is a must listen. In the last episode, we talked about emotional agency and the 3 core layers that shape emotional well-being for highly sensitive people. In this episode, we dive much deeper into one of those layers, which tends to be one of the biggest hidden struggles I see highly sensitive people carry into relationships without even realizing it:The painful self-worth patterns and deeper “heart wound” that sit beneath feeling unloved. This is a conversation that Todd Smith, from the Stress Management for Highly Sensitive People Podcast, and I recorded for his podcast, and I decided to share it here because it's such a deep, compassionate, validating, and hopeful conversation. In it we explore:why HSPs can feel unloved even when they have a good partner who does really love themThe "heart wound", and something I call “care distortion”, and how they affect a marriagehow childhood conditioning and being told you're “too sensitive” impacts self-worthwhy reassurance from your partner never fully resolves the deeper painhow emotional patterns, thoughts, and the nervous system all work together to help you feel loved or unlovedhow to begin building a more secure, loving relationship with yourself And how that finally opens the door to you feeling the deep love in your relationship you've always wanted to feelI think a lot of you are going to feel deeply seen in this episode. And even more importantly, you will leave feeling hopeful — because these patterns are not permanent, and healing them is not just absolutely possible, but something you can totally excel at as an HSP with the right support. #132Josh and Mike sit down with Todd Duplechan, chef and co-owner behind Lenoir, Dovetail Pizza, and the newly opened Bonnie's, for a wide-ranging conversation that blends wild kitchen stories with deeper reflections on what it actually means to build a restaurant you love. Todd shares what it's like to operate multiple concepts on the same block in Austin, the lessons learned from opening a bar for the first time, and how redefining roles, expectations, and service can make a restaurant both more sustainable and more enjoyable to run. The conversation dives into the realities of working alongside a spouse for over a decade, the importance of constant iteration, and how small mindset shifts—like designing a space you personally want to spend time in—can fundamentally change a business. The episode also explores the bigger philosophical questions around food: what “authenticity” really means, how history shapes cuisine, and why tradition is often more fluid than we think. Todd breaks down the evolution of Texas food through migration, climate, and culture, challenging the idea that any dish can be frozen in time. Along the way, the conversation touches on restaurant design, sustainability, leadership, and the grind of the industry—before ending with unforgettable (and chaotic) stories from their time working under Chef David Bouley in New York.Links and resources

In this episode of Business on Top, I'm diving into something that impacts nearly every woman building at a high level, but rarely gets talked about openly: the evolution of partnership as your business grows. You'll hear a powerful panel conversation we hosted at ALT, where we intentionally brought husbands into the dialogue, not as outsiders to the business journey, but as a meaningful part of the ecosystem that supports it. This conversation is part one of a two-part discussion exploring what happens inside relationships as women step more fully into leadership, create wealth, expand their influence, and take on greater responsibility. Because as your business evolves, your relationship is often being asked to evolve too, and many of us are navigating territory that doesn't come with a clear roadmap. Together, we unpack the tension, opportunity, and complexity that can emerge when one person is growing rapidly while the relationship itself is trying to catch up to that growth. We talk about the communication gaps that happen when support is expected but never fully defined, and how misalignment often comes less from lack of love or desire, and more from lack of clarity and understanding. Because your business does not exist in a vacuum. And the quality of your partnership will either expand your capacity or quietly limit it. This episode is honest, nuanced, and deeply relevant for any woman trying to build not just a successful company, but a life that can truly sustain it. The amount of information on how to find a life partner is staggering. There are videos, podcasts, blogs, books—who doesn't have a theory? While some of the information is good, the sheer volume makes it overwhelming. How in the world are we to make sense of it?   Well, in an effort to sift through all the noise, Roy Biancalana, our host, has boiled down our pursuit of intimacy to 5 essential ideas, and they are the focus of this 5-part series.   In final installment of the series, we face an important question: What is the healthiest reason to seek a relationship in the first place? And the answer is "synergy."   Synergy means, "the whole is greater than the sum of its parts." We should seek, therefore, to be with a partner that makes us better than we would otherwise be alone, a partner who's mere presence makes us more likely to fulfill our potential and express deepest gifts.   When you find that person, scoop them up! And hint: BE that person, and you'll be scooped up, too. We shouldn't be focused on falling in love, but "falling in like." And that's because love is a very mysterious feeling. It's often the result of chemicals in the body or a psychological response to unmet childhood needs. Samantha pulls back the curtain on the real process behind meeting her husband, Kurt: the mindset rewiring, the nervous system work, the identity shift, and the practical action that gets skipped when people reduce love to “just make a list.”You'll hear why healthy relationship examples matter, how Samantha's “ask hot guys out” era helped her expose anxious attachment patterns, and why your relationship won't thrive if your partner is your only source of emotional oxygen. The seed of this idea actually came from a conversation Ayesha had last year, when she sat down with NPR producer and editor Rhaina Cohen to talk about her book, "The Other Significant Others: Reimagining Life with Friendship at the Center." In the book, Rhaina shares stories about friends who own homes together, raise kids with each other, and care for each other in old age.   19 Days and Beyond: How Paul Meese Turned Grief into a Legacy of Kindness | Conversations with a Chiropractor What happens when the person you built your life with is gone in less than three weeks? In this deeply human episode of Conversations with a Chiropractor, Dr. Stephanie Wautier talks with Paul Meese, author of 19 Days: One Man's Journey Through Grief, about the sudden loss of his wife Ruth, the chaos of hospital systems, and what grief actually looks like when you stop trying to be "strong" and start being honest. Paul walks through the 19 days from Ruth's stroke to her passing, the conversations no one wants to have with doctors, and why power of attorney, clear wishes, and real advocacy matter long before crisis hits. He also shares how anger, exhaustion, and loneliness eventually gave way to road trips, counseling, writing, and a choice to keep giving in Ruth's name. From scholarships for women in machining to senior dog rescue and donating airline miles so families can say goodbye in person, Paul shows how grief can grow into something active, grounded, and quietly powerful. If you've lost someone, love someone, or know you'll someday have to step into that advocate role, this conversation will stay with you.

Want to stand up for yourself and proactively make sure you get the BEST treatment from your spouse, not just the scraps? Ever wondered if what I share on this podcast lets your spouse get away with too much? This episode is for YOU!!!You'll learn how, for the best marriage possible with your spouse,  you need to develop both a soft belly, and a strong back. In other words, you need an emotional skillset that allows for true open-heartedness (instead of reactivity and defensiveness) AND you need to take specific strategic "strong" actions that prevent any poor treatment and GET the loving treatment you deserve in your marriage. I generally teach more about the soft belly piece, because you can't do the strong back piece well without it–and this part does NOT get enough attention in the relationship advice/self-help world… BUT the strong back pieces (i.e. specific actions and strategies) are 100% essential, too, to have a great marriage. So listen in today to hear what those “strong back” strategies are, and how you can learn more about implementing them, and what you must also be able to do in order for them to create a truly loving connected marriage (instead of a roommate or business-partner type relationship of cold functionality). The magic lies in the combination of both a strong back and a soft belly, not one by itself. Come hear exactly what I mean.SHOW NOTESJoin Hannah for private 1:1 Marriage Coaching, and get her deep, super individualized support to make your marriage way more full of security, connection, love, and mutual support than ever. 200  I have developed a habit of forgiveness over the years in my marriage. And today I want to tell you about it and why it has saved my marriage–and my own heart– over and over.  Forgiveness is so easily misunderstood. I share about how I was confused about it, too, and how, in the past, this led to stopping myself from forgiving things my husband has done that felt hurtful to me. But, luckily, I figured out how to move past that, and I learned how to really forgive. (And to be clear, this did NOT mean I let him walk all over me or keep doing hurtful things. In fact, it is because I have learned to forgive so well that he is NOT doing hurtful things nearly as much!)I want you to hear my story, because I think you may be inspired and also surprised by how much developing this habit of forgiveness has done for me, for my husband, and for our marriage. It has even allowed my husband to become a better, and better, husband over time. So listen in to learn what it took me, why it's made such a tremendous difference in our lives together, and how you can also develop this healing, connecting habit of forgiveness, for the sake of your own heart, and your own marriage.SHOW NOTESJoin the Master Class: FREE YOUR HEART FOR MORE LOVE; GETTING PAST BLAME, RESENTMENT, AND GRIEVANCE. Barbra Streisand has been a huge presence in American entertainment—music, film, and stage—for more than sixty years. She was the youngest person ever to achieve the EGOT, winning Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, and Tony awards by the age of twenty-seven. At eighty-three years old, Streisand is releasing a new album, “The Secret of Life: Partners, Volume 2.” It's a collection of duets featuring Paul McCartney, Bob Dylan, and Seal, along with younger artists including Hozier, Sam Smith, and Ariana Grande. Streisand sat down with David Remnick to talk about the record and the history behind it. Bob Dylan, for one, apparently had a crush on the singer from afar. “We were both nineteen years old in Greenwich Village, never met each other,” Streisand says. “I remember him sending me flowers and writing me a card in different color pencils, like a child's writing, you know. And ‘Would you sing with me?' And I thought, What would I sing with him?” Streisand talks with Remnick about her complicated childhood with her mother, who was jealous of her talent; her dislike of live performance; and the classy way to rebuff a come-on from Marlon Brando.
