In this week's episode, Katerina sits down with Amy Edwards, founder of Markedly, to explore the art of marketing for architects and designers. Amy offers advice on marketing effectively on a budget, building trust through valuable content, and setting clear business goals to guide your strategy. She highlights the importance of focusing on strategy over tactics, committing to long-term success, and creating meaningful content to engage clients. Amy also emphasizes the value of consistency in building trust and tailoring your efforts by understanding your target audience. She shares insights on measuring success through quality leads rather than follower counts, adapting to the ever-changing marketing landscape, and balancing online efforts with in-person networking. Together, they discuss how platforms like Instagram and LinkedIn can be leveraged for personal branding and the role of in-person events in creating a well-rounded marketing approach. Whether you're looking to refine your strategy or take your marketing to the next level, this episode is packed with advice you won't want to miss!   Mentioned:  Website: www.themarkedly.com.au Follow Amy on Instagram @marked.ly  Connect with Amy on LinkedIn   Grab your copy of The Mindful Blueprint for Launching Your Architecture Firm  Use code honeycomb20 for 20% off! It's time to take the pressure off and simplify marketing in your business. Somewhere along the way, we overcomplicated marketing and we lost sight of what its true purpose is. Abstract: Time-frequency decomposition is a well-established method to unmix signals generated by multiple sources with unique characteristics. However, there are cases of high signal complexity where existing time-frequency decomposition tools are insufficient for localizing and representing short bursting signals. One example is the currently highly popular extracellular low-impedance recordings from multi-electrode arrays in the brain in vivo where each neuron repeatedly generates a specific signal fingerprint (characteristic spike waveform) that can be mixed with the signals of 100s of other sources, including the spikes of nearby neurons. Here we derive the singular superlet transform (SST) method, which enables highly localized representations of fast and short bursts compared to other super-resolution spectral estimators, while also requiring orders of magnitude fewer operations. We demonstrate a substantial edge of SST over current methods in isolating specific neuronal spikes with high fidelity in challenging, complex recording signals from neocortex in vivo. We also exemplify SSTs generic signal processing capability by achieving outstanding resolution in the decomposition of complex acoustic data. Copy rights belong to original authors. Question: How is the markedly different characteristics analysis performed? Answer: The markedly different characteristics analysis compares the nature-based product limitation to its naturally occurring counterpart in its natural state. Markedly different characteristics can be expressed as the product's structure, function, and/or other properties, and are evaluated based on what is recited in the claim on a case-by-case basis. If the analysis indicates that a nature-based product limitation does not exhibit markedly different characteristics, then that limitation is a product of nature exception. If the analysis indicates that a nature-based product limitation does have markedly different characteristics, then that limitation is… The post MPEP Q & A 263: How is the markedly different characteristics analysis performed? appeared first on Patent Education Series.

Sales Manager Don Lee with Peachtree Residential joins the Atlanta Real Estate Forum Radio podcast to provide an inside look at popular communities, new developments and more. Lee joins host Carol Morgan on the All About Real Estate segment. Involved in new home sales and construction for over 35 years, Lee has been associated with Peachtree Residential for more than 30 years of his professional career. A builder for 16 years, Lee has incredible building experience and can appreciate what Peachtree Residential does particularly well. A family-run business, the company is headed by one local owner and backed by many loyal employees. Lee said, “I'm not an oddity within Peachtree Residential. There's over 10 of us that have been with the company for over 15 to 25 years.” Started in 1988 in metro Atlanta, Peachtree Residential Founder Dave Borreson saw a need for a particular niche in the homebuilding business – affordable, higher-end homes. Resilient through the years of market dips and peaks, the company produces homes in metro Atlanta, primarily on the city's north side. With numerous completed communities in the rearview, there are many upcoming developments to look forward to, including 100 new homes slated for this year. Handling sales at Garden Park in Forsyth County, Lee shared that 24 of the 28 available homes have sold in less than a year. Markedly in the Garden Park community, a flex space on the ground floor is at the top of many homebuyer wish lists. A space to fit all needs, flex rooms are ideal for home offices, guest rooms, media rooms and more. Another trend growing in popularity, slab homes have surpassed basement homes in attractiveness as homebuyers continue to evolve. With just four opportunities remaining, Garden Park in West Forsyth County has a Longwood plan, two Harvard plans slated to start construction and the model home available for best and final offers. A part of an existing community developed by SR Homes Peachtree Residential is building homes in  The Grove at Montebello in Cumming.  These homes showcase three bedrooms and 2,400 square feet of living space, with six out of seven boasting a basement. The well-designed, open plans are situated on beautiful lots in a community with fantastic amenity options. Construction is expected to begin this year with two homes available for sale from the mid-$700,000s and four lots currently under construction.  Waterside at River Glen in Suwanee is a Peachtree Residential exclusive section of an existing community. With several lots featuring direct access to the Chattahoochee River, a great deal of inventory priced from the $700,000s to low $800,000s will be available for sale later this year. Lee said, “People have loved [this community] and knowing that nothing will be built behind them.” Tune in to the full interview above to learn more about Peachtree Residential or visit www.PeachtreeResidential.com. Kia Ora e te whānau. It's hot, eh? This week we've got another greatest hit for you. In fact, not that we really pay attention to the numbers, but we have our most popular episode on DCR ever, Number 83 with the legendary Scotty Stevenson. It was hot the night that we recorded the podcast. Scotty walked into Eugene's lounge dressed up to the nines in full TV makeup (having just left the tele to come do the pod) and proceeded to lay down one of the most engaging, honest, and entertaining hours that we ever recorded.Scotty StevensonA broadcaster and journalist best known for his rugby commentary and reporting which makes him automatically one of the most well-known New Zealand TV personalities. He's a sports journalist with TVNZ, and also works with Spark Sport and Radio Hauraki, commentating on cricket and the America's Cup. He's also a sports writer, has ghost-written and written a string of some of the best sports books, from Straight 8 about Kieran Read, to Kiwi Pair about Eric Murray and Hamish Bond. Scotty has been previously known by his childhood nickname “Sumo” as, by his own account he was the “fat kid in speedos” at surf lifesaving. But things have changed. If you were to Google Scotty Stevenson, the number one thing that pops up on auto-search is “Scotty Stevenson weight loss”. It's because Stevenson has changed. Markedly. He has noticeably shrunk. And for those who've been watching closely, he started running. He's kept very quiet about it, but goodness me, the man is well and truly hooked. Three years ago, he couldn't run 85m. In 2019, he ran 85km, no less, through backcountry New Zealand in the Old Ghost Ultra in just over 12 hours. For those who saw the TVNZ report he did on the event, you'll know that he found it an extremely emotional experience. We talked to Scotty about that race, his life leading up to running, what sparked his decision to lace up, and the myriad of changes that this has had on his life.Enjoy!Episode LinksScotty Stevenson on InstagramScotty Stevenson on TwitterDirt Church Radio on InstagramDirt Church Radio on TwitterDirt Church Radio on FacebookDirt Church Radio on PatreonCieleFurther Faster New ZealandUltraspire NZSpring Energy NZSCOTT Running

However, the study of this book is essential for Maoists, since it paints a comprehensive picture of the whole international Maoist movement and its different divisions and tendencies; this, and similar efforts that help clarify the situation, can and must contribute to the struggle for uniting the international Maoist movement. Although some of this book's issues warrant further discussion–which comes with anything new that is worth discussion–I recommend this book to all Maoists and non-Maoists.” – Zia, Communist (Maoist) Party of Afghanistan

Depressed mood most of the day, nearly every day. 2. Markedly diminished interest or pleasure in all, or almost all, activities most of the day, nearly every day. 3. Significant weight loss when not dieting or weight gain, or decrease or increase in appetite nearly every day. 4. Process Fear & Sadness

In this episode, we are talking with my friend Raven, a licensed Marriage & Family Therapist, about the topic of processing fear and sadness. Raven is one of those friends that can get deep and these kind of friends are such a gift. While she hasn't walked the road of infertility, she has walked through some hard stuff and has had to wait on God. So I love that she brings a personal level of understanding to the emotions that waiting can bring. Fear vs. Anxiety Emotions, in general, are information via signals within our bodies that are often closely related to sensations, thoughts or behaviors. Fear is a physiological response to something happening to us or around us that alerts us to a perceived danger. All emotions are adaptive as a means to alert our brains of what “next steps” to take. One of the most powerful things we can realize is that we were given emotion, including fear anxiety and even anger, for a reason.  Anxiety is more specific than fear. It is an emotion characterized by racing or intrusive thoughts, muscle tension, increased heart rate, difficulty sleeping or focusing- restlessness. In my experience, anxiety results from ignoring or being unable to attend to, some fear or situation. The friction created by an unmet need whether that is for safety, comfort, or change. Practical ways to process fear & anxiety: First step is to regulate. Nothing else. Remind yourself that you are safe. It's important to note that these steps have nothing to do with getting rid of fear. God gave us fear, even anxiety. We are just unable to use it in the way it is intended when we are flooded with emotions. Then, once you are regulated, can you identify your need? Simmer it down to that moment's need: comfort, safety, care. Sadness & Depression Sadness is a signal that we are worn down and can manifest in these bodily signs: tears, a “weight,” general slowing. Depression has a very specific definition. (1) Depressed mood most of the day, nearly every day. (2) Markedly diminished interest or pleasure in all, or almost all, activities most of the day, nearly every day. (3) Significant weight loss when not dieting or weight gain, or decrease or increase in appetite nearly every day. (4) A slowing down of thought and a reduction of physical movement (observable by others, not merely subjective feelings of restlessness or being slowed down). (5) Fatigue or loss of energy nearly every day. (6) Feelings of worthlessness or excessive or inappropriate guilt nearly every day. (7) Diminished ability to think or concentrate, or indecisiveness, nearly every day. (8) Recurrent thoughts of death, recurrent suicidal ideation without a specific plan, or a suicide attempt or a specific plan for committing suicide. To receive a diagnosis of depression, these symptoms must cause the individual clinically significant distress or impairment in social, occupational, or other important areas of functioning. The symptoms must also not be a result of substance abuse or another medical condition. Depression is not just sadness multiplied. Depression is related to duration, bodily impact, and effect on day to day living and relationships. Strategies for both acknowledging and battling fear/ sadness: Familiarize yourself with your body's way of letting you know that you need something. Get curious instead of panicking. Seek out a counselor, mentor, or support group. Moreover, this global provider of semiconductor manufacturing automation solutions and life science sample-based services and solutions has significantly expanded its life science clientele. Moreover, solid demand for contamination control solutions remains a key catalyst… The Zacks Consensus Estimate for its fiscal 2021 earnings has moved up 5.5% to $1.72 per share over the past 60 days. This Zacks Rank #1 (Strong Buy) company has gained 97.5% in the past year.   2) Cohu (COHU) This Zacks Rank #1 company is gaining from the rising demand for its semiconductor test and inspection handlers, micro-electro mechanical system (MEMS) test modules, test contactors and thermal sub-systems in the wireless mobility market. Improving automotive and industrial, and rising demand for EVs bode well for the company. Moreover, shortage in auto chip supply is expected to increase capacity that bodes well for Cohu, which has a strong presence in the EV and ADAS market segment. Cohu has solid growth prospects in Test, Handler and Inspection markets in the long haul. The Zacks Consensus Estimate for its 2021 earnings has risen 17.4% to $2.56 per share over the past 60 days. Cohu’s shares are up 89.9% in the past year. 3) Ultra Clean Holdings (UCTT) This Hayward, CA-based company is benefiting from an expanding clientele. Robust demand for its part cleaning, surface encapsulation and high sensitivity micro contamination analysis solutions is a key catalyst. Moreover, recovery in wafer fab utilization bodes well for this Zacks Rank #2 (Buy) company. Further, the company’s strong exposure to etch and deposition market as well as an expanding global footprint is a major positive. The Zacks Consensus Estimate for its 2021 earnings has moved up 2.7% to $3.03 per share in the past 60 days. Ultra Clean’s shares are up 72.9% in the past year. 4) Entegris (ENTG) This Billerica, MA-based company provides microcontamination control products, specialty chemicals and advanced materials handling solutions for manufacturing processes in the semiconductor and other high-technology industries. This Zacks Rank #2 stock is benefiting from solid demand for its leading-edge solutions in advanced technology nodes and increasing need for end-to-end contamination control solutions. Further, the acquisition of GMTI strengthens Entegris’ position as the premier supplier of yield enhancement solutions for the semiconductor market. Markedly, the consensus mark for its current-year earnings has inched up 1.1% to $2.82 per share over the past 60 days. Entegris’ shares have gained 97.1% in the past year. ” End quotes. ------------------------------------------------------------- 2. Sustainable Stocks for Your Portfolio This second article is titled Sustainable Investing: Five Stocks To Check Out and is by Yelena Mandenberg. It was published on the gritdaily.com site. Though she covers some familiar ground to other posts in these podcasts, Ms. Mandenberg does have some new companies you can check out. I’ll again mention the company she likes followed by a few of her remarks about that company. “!) Brookfield Renewable Partners (BEP) Focusing on renewable energy, Brookfield owns nearly 1000 power generating facilities worldwide, with their portfolio including hydroelectric dams, wind power, and solar power. They’re also well-known for a focus on community engagement, employee well-being, and social responsibility. Their stock is a slow-grower but overall profitable, with increases to come through the next few years as the company plans to continue to buy and create renewable energy facilities. 2) Vestas Wind Systems A/S (VWDRY) This Denmark based company develops, manufactures, and installs wind turbine systems. They work with countries around the globe and are soaring in popularity. 3) First Solar Inc. (FSLR) They design and manufacture photovoltaic solar power systems and solar modules around the world. As the popularity of solar energy increases, you can expect their stock to keep going up. 4) Beyond Meat (BYND) Another industry that’s doing incredibly well is sustainable food. The company Beyond Meat is popular and profitable to invest in as many eateries and fast food companies are now relying on this product for their increasingly health-conscious or vegetarian customers. A study recently showed that this alternative ‘meat’ company generates less greenhouse gas emissions, uses less energy & resources, and less impact on water and land than traditional beef companies. 5) Clean Harbors (CLH) As other companies struggle with spills, cleanups, and making changes to their own brands, they rely on companies that already know how to do that. Clean Harbors is particularly known for helping to clean up after the Deepwater Horizon explosion and the 2010 Gulf of Mexico Oil Spill. They continue to provide emergency spill response and hazardous waste management services.” End quotes. ------------------------------------------------------------- 3. Sustainable Stocks for Your Portfolio Now, one of our great analysts, Matthew DiLallo of The Motley Fool has written a piece titled 3 Top Infrastructure Stocks to Buy in February. Many ethical and sustainable investors have infrastructure stocks in their portfolios. Here are his 3 recommendations followed by some brief remarks by him. 1) Atlantica Sustainable Infrastructure (NASDAQ: AY) Overall, 69% of its income comes from renewable energy production, 15% from the transmission and transportation of electricity, 13% from natural gas-related infrastructure like power plants, and 3% from water desalination facilities… Atlantica pays out most of its cash flow in dividends, offering a higher yield that's currently around 4.1%... Atlantica aims to invest $200 million to $300 million per year on new infrastructure additions, which should support steady dividend growth.   2) Brookfield Infrastructure (NYSE:BIP) (NYSE:BIPC) … is one of the biggest infrastructure operators in the world. It operates transportation, energy, and data infrastructure as well as utilities. Long-term contracts or government-regulated rates back 95% of its revenue, providing it with highly visible cash flows. Brookfield pays out the bulk of that money via a dividend that currently yields 3.7%.  The infrastructure giant uses the cash it retains to help fund acquisitions. It has invested about $1 billion on new additions in recent months, highlighted by a telecom tower portfolio in India and a stake in a large-scale U.S. LNG producer. 3) Crown Castle (NYSE: CCI) … is a real estate investment trust (REIT) focused on operating communications infrastructure. The company owns a leading telecom tower portfolio in the U.S. and a rapidly expanding network of small cells and fiber optic cable to support the country's 5G rollout. The company leases space on this infrastructure to mobile carriers under long-term contracts that provide it with stable cash flow. Crown Castle also pays out most of those funds to investors via dividends, with its payout currently yielding 3.4%. The company expects to be able to grow its cash flow at a 7% to 8% annual rate for at least the next decade.” End quotes. ------------------------------------------------------------- 4. Sustainable Stocks for Your Portfolio So, to our final post. It’s titled Making A List Of The Best Stocks To Buy Now? 3 Renewable Energy Stocks To Watch by Jonathan Phillip and was on Nasdaq.com. As usual, I’ll mention the company name followed by brief comments from the author. “1) Aemetis (NASDAQ: AMTX) Aemetis is a California-based advanced renewable fuels and biochemicals company. Its development pipeline is focused on the reduction of carbon intensity… Aemetis seems to be firing on all cylinders for now. Could this mark the beginning of another great year for Aemetis stock? 2) Orbital Energy Group (NASDAQ: OEG) The company is working towards creating a diversified energy services platform. Orbital’s group of businesses include its gas systems, power services, and solar services… The company has also been doing well financially… This included year-over-year jumps of 124% in total revenue and 134% in cash on hand. 3) VivoPower International (NASDAQ: VVPR) VivoPower is an international renewable energy tech company. It is involved in the fields of battery tech, electric vehicles (EVs), and even solar and critical power services… VivoPower announced that it closed a $250 million agreement with Australia-based GB Auto Group. Through the agreement, GB will become the exclusive distributor of VivoPower’s Tembo Toyota EV conversion kits in Australia. According to the report, it is the biggest deal for EVs in the Australasian region to date…” End quotes. ------------------------------------------------------------- End Comment Well, these are my top news stories with their stock and fund tips -- for this podcast: “Sustainable Stocks for Your Portfolio.“ To get all the links, stock symbols, or to read the transcript of this podcast -- and more -- go to investingforthesoul.com/podcasts and scroll down to this episode. This afternoon (12/22/20 at YBT) we continued trying to reconcile the differences and contradictions between the Rambam's presentations of ahavas Hashem and yiras Hashem in the Sefer ha'Mitzvos, in Hilchos Yesodei ha'Torah, and in Hilchos Teshuvah. We began with an unlikely source: the Rambam's commentary on Pirkei Avos 1:6, which - thanks to the Ralbag's explanation of ahavas Hashem - we were able to use to answer one of the questions we raised yesterday. After that we read the Rambam's presentation of yiras Hashem in the Sefer ha'Mitzvos, which was MARKEDLY inconsistent with his presentation in the Mishneh Torah. We concluded by taking stock of our major questions, in hopes that we'll be able to make some headway tomorrow.----------מקורות:רמב"ם - פירוש המשניות, אבות א:ורלב"ג - ספר דברים, ביאור הפרשה דברים ו:הרמב"ם - ספר המצוות: מצות עשה דרמב"ם - משנה תורה, ספר המדע, הלכות יסודי התורה ב:א-ברמב"ם - משנה תורה, ספר המדע, הלכות תשובה פרק י----------Bekius Disclaimer: Note that this is a bekius chavurah - as opposed to an iyun shiur.   Vidcast:  https://youtu.be/juSmZ6Pf9LE   Markedly obese CoVid patients are nearly 3 times more likely than those with normal body masses to require ICU admission, go on a ventilator, or die.  An international collaborative team just published these results from their meta-analysis of 335,192 patients treated over the past 11 months.   The investigators suggest 3 explanations for this effect.  First of all,  excess body weight negatively alters a patient’s respiratory mechanics exacerbating the impact of viral lung damage.  Secondly, the additional body fat may serve as a CoVid reservoir as it does for other common human viruses.  Finally, obesity may drive underlying low-grade inflammation and immune suppression.   The severely obese must avoid contracting CoVid at all costs.   https://www.medrxiv.org/content/10.1101/2020.11.27.20239616v1.full.pdf   #covid #obesity #ICU #ventilator

Scotty Stevenson is a broadcaster and journalist best known for his rugby commentary and reporting which makes him automatically one of the most well-known New Zealand TV personalities. He’s a sports journalist with TVNZ, and also works with Spark Sport and Radio Hauraki. He’s also a sports writer, has ghost-written and written a string of some of the best sports books, from Straight 8 about Kieran Read, to Kiwi Pair about Eric Murray and Hamish Bond. It’s because Stevenson has changed. Markedly. He has noticeably shrunk. And for those who’ve been watching closely, he started running. He’s kept very quiet about it, but goodness me, the man is well and truly hooked. Two years ago, he couldn’t run 85m. A couple of weeks ago, he ran 85km, no less, through backcountry New Zealand in the Old Ghost Ultra in just over 12 hours. For those who saw the TVNZ report he did on the event, you’ll know that he found it an extremely emotional experience. We talked to Scotty about that race, his life leading up to running, what sparked his decision to lace up, and the myriad of changes that this has had on his life. Honest, engaging, and unalloyed, this is a fantastic conversation with a broadcasting legend that we are so thrilled to bring you.. Enjoy!

There are certain diagnoses that may be co-occurring with perfectly hidden depression (PHD) or could be confused with PHD. And the last thing I want is for anyone to label themselves PHD or identify with PHD and stop there – when instead, you may need to recognize that you're experiencing another type of psychological issue that warrants understanding and even treatment. Those diagnoses are Bipolar II disorder, Obsessive Compulsive disorder, Generalized Anxiety Disorder and Borderline Personality Disorder. We'll talk today about what traits PHD and these other disorders have in common and what makes them distinct from one another. The listener email for the week comments on my habit of including research and ideas from other people on SelfWork -- and I respond about the "why" of that choice on my part. Important Links: The INFJ personality category or the Myers-Briggs Don't Panic by Reid Wilson Understanding the Borderline Mother by Christine Lawson Bipolar II Disorder Meets criteria for a current or past hypomanic episode And meets criteria for a current or past depressive episode: A distinct period of abnormally and persistently elevated, expansive, or irritable mood and abnormally and persistently increased activity or energy, lasting at least four consecutive days and present most of the day, nearly every day, and including at least three of the following symptoms: Inflated self-esteem or grandiosity Decreased need for sleep More talkative than usual or pressure to keep talking Flight of ideas or subjective experience of racing thoughts Distractibility Increase in goal-directed activity (socially, at work or school, or sexually) or physical agitation. Excessive involvement in activities with high potential for painful consequences (e.g., buying sprees, foolish investments, sexual indiscretions) Five or more of the following symptoms present during the same two-week period: Depressed mood most of the day, nearly every day Markedly diminished interest or pleasure in all or almost all activities Significant unintended weight loss or change in appetite Insomnia or hypersomnia Being physically agitated or listless Fatigue or loss of energy Feelings of worthlessness or excessive/inappropriate guilt Diminished ability to think or concentrate, or indecisiveness Recurrent thoughts of death, recurrent suicidal ideation, a suicide attempt, or a plan for suicide   At least one of the symptoms is either depressed mood or loss of interest or pleasure.   Generalized Anxiety Disorder Excessive anxiety or worry, occurring more days than not for at least six months, about a number of events or activities Difficulty controlling the worry The anxiety or worry is associated with at least three of the following symptoms: Restlessness or feeling on edge Being easily fatigued Difficulty concentrating or mind going blank Irritability Muscle tension Sleep disturbance   Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder This disorder is characterized by the presence of obsessions, compulsions, or both. The obsessions or compulsions are time consuming (i.e., take more than one hour per day) or cause clinically significant distress or impairment in social, occupational, or other important areas of functioning. Obsessions: Recurrent and persistent thoughts, urges, or images that are experienced  as intrusive and unwanted and, in most individuals, cause marked anxiety or distress The individual attempts to ignore or suppress such thoughts, urges, or images, or to neutralize them with some other thought or action (i.e., by performing a compulsion) Compulsions: Repetitive behaviors (e.g., hand washing, ordering, checking) or mental acts (e.g., praying, counting, silently repeating words) that the individual feels driven to perform in response to an obsession or according to rules that must be applied rigidly The behaviors or mental acts are aimed at preventing or reducing anxiety or distress, or preventing some dreaded event or situation; however, they are not connected in a realistic way with what they are designed to neutralize or prevent, or are clearly excessive   Borderline Personality Disorder BPD is characterized by a pervasive pattern of instability of interpersonal relationships, self-image, and affects, and marked impulsivity, beginning by early adulthood and present in a variety of contexts, as indicated by five or more of the following symptoms: Frantic efforts to avoid real or imagined abandonment A pattern of unstable and intense interpersonal relationships characterized by alternating between extremes of idealization and devaluation Identity disturbance: markedly and persistently unstable self-image or sense of self Impulsivity in at least two areas that are potentially self-damaging (e.g., spending, sex, substance abuse, reckless driving, binge eating) Recurrent suicidal behavior, gestures, or threats, or self-mutilating behavior Affective instability due to a marked reactivity of mood (e.g., intense episodic dysphoria, irritability, or anxiety usually lasting a few hours and only rarely more than a few days) Chronic feelings of emptiness Inappropriate, intense anger or difficulty controlling anger Transient, stress-related paranoid ideation or severe dissociative symptoms   You can hear more about PHD and many other topics by listening to my podcast, SelfWork with Dr. Margaret Rutherford. Subscribe to my website and receive one weekly newsletter including my weekly blog post and podcast! Indices kicked off the week on a positive note Monday as Technology stocks led the advance on a variety of economic news. Strong quarterly earnings coupled with Friday’s positive employment report have boosted investor confidence in continuing economic growth. Markets closed mixed moves on Tuesday. After flat trading most of the day, the Dow Jones Industrial Average and NASDAQ Composite tacked on fractional gains while the S+P 500 index shaved a few points. According to the Producer Price Index, prices moved very little in April, up a scant 0.1% over March, when prices jumped 0.3%. In fact, the bump in prices is attributable to a 0.1% rise in the prices producers got for services—prices for goods were unchanged in April. Stocks were back in positive territory mid-week with energy brands posting gains on a jump in crude oil prices. West Texas Intermediate crude tacked on 3.1% to settle at $71.14 a barrel. The good news continued Thursday as stocks advanced on a variety of economic news. Department of Labor data showed initial jobless claims held steady at 211,000 new claims for the second week straight. However, the Consumer Price Index rose 0.2% in April, versus a forecast for a 0.3% gain. Core prices edged up 0.1% following a 0.2% rise for the previous two months. At Friday’s close, the weekly gains were enough to push each of the indices into the black year-to-date. Furthermore, it marked the first time April 13 that the major indices had posted weekly gains exceeding 1.0%.

In the past, one of the indications of being good in business and a successful and respectable person in general was job stability. You graduated from high school or college, you got a job and you stuck at it for 40 years. If you did well, you d work your way up through the ranks and end up in management. But even if you didn t, you appreciated the security, you were loyal to the company, and you retired with a decent pension. That s all changed. Markedly. These days there is usually no pension waiting for you. And far from any stigma being attached to changing jobs, we regard change and new challenges as positive. On this edition of Out to Lunch, Aileen Bennett meets two people who have both recently made big changes. For 11 years Dana Baker was Executive Director of Festival International. For most of us, running the most popular music festival in town, and one of the greatest in the country, would be a dream job. Dana s new job keeps the dream alive. As of late 2016 Dana is the Executive Director of the Acadiana Symphony. Harold Bernard has started a new business at the time of life most people are retiring. Harold is 65 and as of January 2017 the founder and owner of Glide Studios, on Jefferson Street in downtown Lafayette. Harold is a dancer and dance teacher. Glide Studios is a place where you can learn dance, watch dance, or just plain old dance. In Acadiana our cultural life is an integral part of every aspect of our lives. Does oxygen delivery matter?

For the 30 years, clinical understanding of haemodynamic resuscitation has been based on physiological paradigms that focus on convective oxygen delivery. Most of these emphasise the role of cardiac output, haemoglobin and recommend interventions using synthetic agents such as dobutamine, synthetic colloids and blood transfusions. Markedly influenced by industry, these interventions and strategies hijacked critical thinking creating a belief in the utiliity of attaining short-term physiological surrogates for resuscitation that have little relevance in improving patient-centred outcomes. This 'physiological fallacy' has been demonstrated in high-quality RCTs of fluids, goal-directed therapy and catecholamines, that paradoxically inform the interpretation of new insights in the physiological basis of health and disease.

In this episode we discuss depression. We look at the symptoms, possible causes, and ways to address others who may be suffering from it.  First we look at the connection between anxiety and depression and moderate to severe picky eating in children. Check out the article at:  The symptoms of depression are: http://www.cnn.com/2015/08/03/living/young-picky-eaters-more-depression-anxiety-feat/index.html 1. Depressed mood most of the day, almost every day, indicated by your own subjective report or by the report of others. This mood might be characterized by sadness, emptiness, or hopelessness. 2. Markedly diminished interest or pleasure in all or almost all activities most of the day nearly every day. 3. Significant weight loss when not dieting or weight gain. 4. Inability to sleep or oversleeping nearly every day. 5. Psychomotor agitation or retardation nearly every day. 6. Fatigue or loss of energy nearly every day. 7. Feelings of worthlessness or excessive or inappropriate guilt (which may be delusional) nearly every day. 8. Diminished ability to think or concentrate, or indecisiveness, nearly every day. 9. Recurrent thoughts of death (not just fear of dying), recurrent suicidal ideation without a specific plan, or a suicide attempt or a   specific plan for committing suicide.   Find out more about the symptoms at: http://evolutioncounseling.com/major-depressive-disorder-dsm-5-criteria/   Treatment is necessary given that over 8,000,000 people in the US go untreated each year. Is This a Critical, Panic, Alarm, Urgent, or Markedly Abnormal Result?

Medical laboratories frequently encounter clinically unexpected results that require timely clinical evaluation because they may indicate an imminent life-threatening condition or a major clinical deterioration. Laboratories, therefore, need to identify and report such results sooner than they normally would, and have policies and procedures that minimize the possibility of patient harm due to delayed clinical attention. The concept of these so-called "panic values" was raised by George Lundberg in 1970, but a variety of other terms have since appeared in the literature. For example, urgent, critical, acute, alert, abnormal, markedly or significantly abnormal, clinically significant, vital, red or orange or yellow zone values, and various combinations of terms.

For decades iron has been thought of as beneficial for the body. Most everyone knows that iron deficiency is harmful and that the condition should be treated by additional iron in the diet. However, too much iron can also be harmful to the body. Ferritin is a protein that stores iron and measurement of ferritin in serum is a measure of the iron deposits in the body.

Lipoprotein (a) (Lp(a)) is a well-documented risk factor for atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease. Its role in acute thrombo-embolic occlusions of peripheral arteries is not known. We describe two cases of multiple, acute, peripheral arterial occlusions in two previously healthy men with markedly elevated Lp(a). Both cases had unsatisfactory results after percutaneous and surgical revascularization procedures. Experience yielded in these two cases suggests that when an unfavorable outcome occurs in a peripheral artery disease patient in the absence of the regular risk factors, Lp(a) should be determined and its role investigated.
