This film offers a nostalgic look at football fandom in late 1960s Britain, capturing the highs and lows of supporting the underdog.Setting the Scene: A Teenage ObsessionSet in the suburbs of London during the late 1960s, The Bromley Boys follows 15-year-old David "Dave" Roberts, portrayed by Brenock O'Connor. Dave becomes an ardent supporter of Bromley F.C., a team humorously dubbed "the worst football team in Britain." His newfound passion leads him to sneak into matches, befriend the players, and even develop a crush on the chairman's daughter, Ruby McQueen, played by Savannah Baker. The Plot: Dreams, Schemes, and Football ThemesDave's journey is filled with comedic escapades as he tries to navigate his teenage years, his love for football, and his feelings for Ruby. He uncovers a secret that could change the fate of his beloved club and faces the challenge of balancing his devotion to the team with his personal relationships. The film culminates in a nerve-wracking finale where Bromley F.C. needs to win their last game, leading to moments of tension, humour, and heartfelt emotion. Why It's a Must-WatchFor fans of British comedies and sports films, The Bromley Boys is a gem (Ed: Is it though?). Its blend of humour, heart, and nostalgia makes it a standout entry in the coming-of-age genre. In this previously live episode of Speaking About Speaking I speak with Trainer, Coach and Speaker, Adam Armstrong, a former Head Boy of and teacher at the famous Italia Conti Performing Arts School. His acting credits include The Bill, Grange Hill, and The Minder. And his students have included Russell Brand, Danny Mays, Martine McCutcheon, and Claire goose. I met Adam a year ago when, alongside fellow acting coach, Peter Ferris, we designed an acting course for stunt trainees which we now run for the British Stunt Register. Adam also founded his own training company, Herald, in 2009, which offers bespoke presentation training and coaching around personal effectiveness, communication skills, creative thinking and change management. Also, he's studied Psychology and NLP, and he's ex-champion runner, completing a mile in very close to 4 minutes! Before I met Adam, I'd never heard the word homophily or the expression ‘Does it make the boat go faster?' Now I use both regularly! With over half a million followers on Instagram alone, Munroe has become one of today's most powerful voices, continuously standing up for marginalised people, diversity, feminism, the queer community and transgender visibility. So it’s no wonder that she's a UN Women UK Changemaker, that Time Magazine called her a Next Generation Leader on their cover last year, and British Vogue named her as one of the 25 most powerful women in Britain.Munroe is one of my favourite people to talk to, as she’s beyond open and always promotes new ways of thinking, and this conversation shows just that. We talk about how we both came out at 14 years old, and how lockdown reminded us both of the isolation we experienced as a teenager. We talk about filters and photoshopping, the price of being a prominent Black Transgender activist on social media, labels, and our mutual appreciation for the icon that is Martine McCutcheon! This episode truly has it all so I hope you take away just as much from this chat as I did. And if you are feeling alone or isolated (I’ve been there!) reach out and talk, I promise it will help. This is a hun-tastic cultural exchange like no other as London native Joel takes his Aussie co-host David through the UK's most iconic soap stars turned pop stars in the 1990s and 2000s from Eastenders, Coronation Street, Hollyoaks, and Brookside. The Right Back At Ya! boys pay homage to Martine McCutcheon, a British national treasure and beloved "Love Actually" star who rose to fame through Eastenders before launching a pop career in 1999 with her UK #1 hit 'Perfect Moment' - her first of five consecutive UK Top 10 solo singles. The multi-talented star served major bops like 'I'm Over You' and her Donna Summer cover of 'On The Radio' in her second album era "Wishing" in 2000 before breaking into musical theatre. Michelle Gayle is undoubtedly one of Britain's most credible and crucial soap-turned-music stars. Joel and David celebrate her impact and discography from the signature 90s hit 'Sweetness' through to her 7 UK Top 30 singles including 'Freedom', 'Happy Just To Be With You', and 'Do You Know', and her two studio albums. This special would not be complete without a major shout-out to Adam Rickitt's hi-NRG Eurodance album "Good Times", which spawned the iconic UK #5 hit 'I Breathe Again', and also Jennifer Ellison's dead rocky Top 20 singles 'Baby I Don't Care' and 'Bye Bye Boy'. There are also nods to the fabulous pop releases by Will Mellor, Claire Sweeney, Matthew Marsden, Sean Maguire, Tracy Shaw, Sid Owen, and Leticia Dean!  Known for celebrating the best of 2000s pop music, the Right Back At Ya! boys are really stepping out of their zone in this fun-filled, two-hour special that taste tests everything from 90s Eurodance to R&B, rock to disco-pop and power ballads... and even musical numbers. On today's episode I'm joined by actress, singer and devoted mother, Martine McCutcheon. Martine is best known for her role in Eastenders playing Tiffany, the on-off love interest of Grant Mitchell. After Eastenders, Martine went on to change her career path and started singing, landing herself a chart topping hit with Perfect Moment in 1999. Many of us will also know Martine as Hugh Grant's gorgeous love interest, Natalie, in the Richard Curtis romcom, Love Actually. Life hasn't been plain sailing for Martine and things got complicated when she started struggling with her health back in 2011. However, she's now fighting fit and has just released her new Christmas EP, Home For Christmas - which is just fantastic by the way! In this episode, we discuss her time in isolation and how we've all been encouraged to be kinder as a nation, her struggles with pregnancy and her health and how she has become a stronger and more positive person as a result. Martine also talks about her greatest love which is her passion for creativity and how she hopes the arts will bounce back stronger than ever!   ***   Life and Soul is hosted by Emma Forbes, produced by Georgie Rutherford and Georgie Futong and edited by Steve Campen.   If you're looking for more content by Emma, please take a look at her new website which is a curation of everything she loves in life - from fashion and food to health & wellbeing:  https://www.byemma.co/   Follow us: @byemma.forbes @emmaforbeslifestyle   Follow Martine: @martinemccutcheon   We would also love to hear from you so feel free to send us an email if you enjoyed this episode to hello@byemma.co

Born and raised in Suffolk, Ellis began performing at an early age before attending Laine Theatre Arts from the age of 16. Ellis made her first professional stage appearance in 1998 and went on to make her West End debut in the 2001 revival of My Fair Lady as Martine McCutcheon's understudy in the role of Eliza Doolittle. Love Actually: love, actually, is complicated and Love Actually is complicated too. A fan favorite but also a critics’ favorite to bash. We face the attacks head on so we can put the cringe behind us and get to the really good stuff. (Starts at 2:06) Is this even a love story? Carinn argues that romance and love are two different things in the context of a relationship. Kate acknowledges that the movie celebrates love and relationships in all different forms, even if there are some depressing or darker aspects explored. In the end, they agree love is certainly all around. (At 14:46) Are there complicated women in Love Actually? Absolutely. Emma Thompson, Laura Linney, a young Keira Knightly, Martine McCutcheon. Enough said. (At 19:05) Best and worst storylines. Carinn plays hopeless romantic as she gushes on the Jamie and Aurelia story (and of course she ties it to a Taylor Swift lyric). Kate cringes at the iconic cue card scene where Mark declares his love for Juliette (“to me you’re perfect”) because, hello, it’s his best friend’s wife. Wtf!? For Kate, the stand-in porn stars may have cutest love story of all. Go figure. (At 35:08) Love is Everywhere. Especially as we listen to Hugh Grant's voice in the infamous opening clip. (At 49:29)    Stay complicated!

When James won his first Oscar for his incredible turn as an aged Bane coming to terms with his saggy body and his life of crime and carnage in Richard Curtis's wonderful ‘An Old People's Home Near Watford', many commented on his stirring acceptance speech. How he dedicated his win to his ‘most incredibly handsome and wise best friend Sam'. How he refused to take the credit for that scene, the one where Bane and Martine McCutcheon make (grey) love on a row boat during a delightful day trip out to Whipsnade Zoo, instead thanking ‘from the bottom of my heart, my sensei of love, Sam'. As honoured listeners to this podcast will know, this was classic James. And there's plenty more classic James on this week's episode of The TickyOff. He's been playing a weird game in his parent's garden, delaying his pleasure and styling his hair like Abs from Five. Sam meanwhile doesn't trust Easter, regularly dresses up like a mummy and wants people to cheer up at funerals, just not while attending his own. Then Ben Tish arrives like many, not all, but most guests, arrive to TickyOff Towers. Via the door. Ben's mouth opens and closes, laying eggs of sound all around. His new book ‘Moorish', the perils of Saturday Kitchen and his early days in cooking with Oliver Peyton, Jason Atherton and Dan Lepard. Other aural oeufs crack wide open and drip sound albumen on his hometown of Skegness, how much he enjoys dressing up like Stevie Nicks and Marcus Wareing acting like a twat. There's a lot of these audible eggs and yet somehow there's also time to ponder on whether or not mountains are worth the hassle, couscous and the trials and tribulations of fast expansion. We continue our invisible illness and mental health-themed shows with a central focus on invisible illness for young adult daily life, and no one is better to have on the show than British blogger and creator of Blogging in Bed, Amy Saunders (who is also an InvisiYouth Global Brand Leader)! Amy’s a recent university graduate from York, England who’s Blogging in Bed developed into an international community of hundreds of young adults living with chronic illnesses that often leave them homebound or bed-bound at points in their life, creating a community of friendship, sharing posts and life tips, and connection to a community that is often invisible with invisible illnesses. In this episode, Amy and Dominique talk about why having celebrities like Selena Gomez and Martine McCutcheon talk about their invisible illnesses affecting their full lives can impact any young adult listening, gives up some major health hacks for school life, talks tips on how to regain control of your health and asking for help when you're out with friends, and how maybe if we were all just be a bit kinder to everyone, we’d instinctually support those to come forward with invisible illness instead of feel stifled with stigmas. Wouldn’t it be loverly if the Broadway Babies discussed the dynamic Pygmalion musical "My Fair Lady"? Just you wait, this episode is diving into some juicy drama surrounding the 2001 West End revival’s multiple Elizas, the importance of healthy singing as a live performer, the relationship between Eliza and Henry, and more! With a little bit of luck, maybe we will be able to unpack this beast of a show in an hour … Podcast cover art: David Taylor Twitter: @bwaybabies Facebook: Facebook.com/broadwaybabiespodcast iTunes | Spotify | Amazon CD Songs "Overture/Prologue" "I Could Have Danced All Night" (performed by Martine McCutcheon) "On the Street Where You Live" (performed by Mark Umbers) "With a Little Bit of Luck" (performed by Dennis Waterman) "Ascot Gavotte" (performed by My Fair Lady company) "I've Grown Accustomed to Her Face" (performed by Jonathan Pryce) (All lyrics by Alan Jay Lerner & music by Frederick Loewe; orchestrated by William David Brohn) Show Notes A news profile about Martine McCutcheon’s understudy, Alexandra Jay, who had her own 42nd Street moment when she had to go on as Eliza on the eve of opening night with about a day’s notice. It’s very press-controlled, fluff piece-y, lots of quotes from Cameron Mackintosh, and it weirdly talks about her salaries at jobs. A really interesting documentary on YouTube about the 2001 "My Fair Lady" West End production, with rehearsal scenes of "The Rain in Spain" and "With a Little Bit of Luck," as well as the production history of the musical and its then-infamous straight play source material Jonathan Pryce shares his opinions about the “Eliza flux” with some pretty straightforward American talk show hosts… Martine McCutcheon sings "Loverly" on a TV show, and she’s loverly, but it’s not quite up to par as a classical voice. For what I mean by that: A video of Audra taking a high-as-hell D flat in "Danced All Night" after pianist Seth Rudetsky surprises her with a key change, and she still nails it because she’s just FLAWLESS.

Martine McCutcheon, real life east ender, became famous as a TV Eastender in the 90s playing Tiffany, on off love interest for hi-maintenance Grant Mitchell, until she was squished by Frank Butcher outside the Queen Vic on Christmas Eve. She reinvented herself as a pop star - having a Perfect Moment in 1999 with the chart topping song of that name - and then another perfect moment co-starring with Hugh Grant in the Richard Curtis romcom, Love Actually. Off screen life, however, was complicated and after an award winning but stormy run in My Fair Lady in the West End, things went Pete Tong. Illness, bankruptcy, time to regroup - but now, fighting fit, she's back with a new album. When Benjamin Mee's dad died, he persuaded his mum to buy a zoo so that the whole family could live together. Of course it wasn't as easy as that - there were plenty of challenges along the way. But his story was made into a film starring Matt Damon in 2013. With the thank you slot, when we offer you the opportunity to thank someone for a good deed done by left unthanked, we're especially delighted on the rare occasion when a thanker is reunited with a thankee. But, people of Britain, today we reunite two of them live in the studio. Rabia Dignam and Sir Harold Walker, who met in a crowded and extremely tense Baghdad airport during the Iraqi Invasion of 1990. There's not much Gabe Cook doesn't know about cider. He's made cider for big name companies and small breweries. He's done the PR for the UK cider industry. And now he is his own man - a ciderologist and Britain's first 'pommelier'. The adorable and thoroughly cherished Roy Hudd was on Saturday Live a while ago with tales of his six decades in showbiz. He started as a redcoat, has appeared in everything from panto to Broadchurch, presented the News Huddlines here on Radio Four for a quarter of a century, and is today a custodian of anecdotes to the platinum standard of Ned Sherrin. Heritage on legs, people, and we thought we'd be unforgivably remiss if we didn't get him to surrender his Inheritance Tracks. Cally Beaton has done alright. She worked her way up to senior Vice President at the media company Viacom International. Then inexplicably at the age of 45 she decided to get into stand-up comedy. Her show Super Cally Fragile Lipstick will be in Edinburgh from August 5th And as you know we always want to hear from you - the listener. This week's Call Out is asking 'what unusual job do you do and how did you get into it'? In fact do you have such an unusual job most people wouldn't even know it exists? We have heard of people who are professional mourners. One person even told us they had a job as a professional 'cuddler'. We want to hear from you. Amelia & Rose talk about everyone’s favourite film, Love Actaully. We discuss how women are portrayed (SO BAD), which house we would pick, Martine McCutcheon’s fat jokes, that weird dwarf kid, the fact that nobody cares about Liam Nelson and how this movie brought about pro-anna thinspiration. There is also a little snippet of Martines newest dance hit ‘Wheres My Fucking Coat”. Both Amelia and Rose rip this film into shreds, so if this is one of your favourite films please don’t listen. No, actually do listen. Maybe you’ll see the error of your ways. 98% of facts we declare in the podcast are probably not true. Probably.
