British auteur Michael Morros directed the excellent, To Leslie (2022) then took the reins of a beloved series of romantic stories all about clumsy unlucky in love Bridget Jones (Renee Zellweger) in a fourth film. Our discussion was brief but covers a lot of ground, behind the scenes of Bridget working with Renee, knowing when a joke lands, being a romantic, the soundtrack then obvious praise for Andrea Riseborough (To Leslie) and more!Enjoy, but my voice is a bit 'bugs bunny', sorry about that I was out of office conducting the interview (at my end) on my phone, without regular equipment. Hiiii guyssss!! This weeks episode is about the job market and job hunting! Just a bit of a moan about how bad the job market and application process is at the moment lol. Also if anyone has been here for a while now you will know I'm obsessed with Bridget Jones Diary (oops… I think I may have even referenced the movie last episode). I even did an episode called Bridget Jones Diary or something … so I watched the trailer for the new movie and am gutted that it won't have Bridget and Mark as a couple ( SPOILER: as he has died in the movie/ they are following the books). Absolutely devastated that the new movie won't show them as a couple. I really liked the way the third movie ended and thought it was a good ending so hope the new movie won't ruin it too much. Additionally does anyone else have any theories of when they think rep tv is gonna be announced? I still think sometime next yr as anthology release info hasn't been announced for the UK. Although I think to announced reputation tv at the end of the eras tour would be iconic. Then obviously they would release it next yr. Still feeling very under the weather atm ( as I'm writing this I feel even worse than I did when I recorded this

Florida is always in the news for some whacky but very real stories, Lisa told Clairsy a couple of them that have popped up over the past couple of days which will blow your mind. Clairsy & Lisa opened the phones to ask what you've seen at the beach. 00h 00’00” Presentación 00h 02’02” Cabecera 00h 02’38” A LITTLE PRINCESS – Kindle my heart 00h 05’29” A LITTLE PRINCESS – A little raga 00h 07’30” BRIDGET JONES DIARY – It’s only a diary 00h 11’48” CALENDAR GIRLS – Photographers 00h 12’55” CALENDAR GIRLS – Tai chi 00h 14’26” CARLITO’S WAY – Main theme 00h 19’37” CARLITO’S WAY – Grand Central 00h 29’43” CINDERELLA – A golden childhood 00h 33’32” CINDERELLA – Vals de l’amour 00h 36’01” DEAD AGAIN – Main theme 00h 39’00” DEAD AGAIN – The woman with no name 00h 42’27” DONNIE BRASCO – Donnie and Lefty 00h 46’49” DONNIE BRASCO – Lonely man 00h 48’36” ERAGON – Once in every lifetime 00h 52’48” ERAGON – Passing the flame 00h 55’47” FRANKENSTEIN – To think of a story 00h 59’13” FRANKENSTEIN – Please wait 01h 02’29” FRANKENSTEIN – The wedding night 01h 04’31” GOSFORD PARK – Main theme 01h 06’47” GOSFORD PARK – Only for a while 01h 10’00” GREAT EXPECTATIONS – Finn 01h 12’49” GREAT EXPECTATIONS – A walk in the park 01h 14’09” GREAT EXPECTATIONS – Kissing the rain 01h 17’09” HARRY POTTER & THE GOBLET OF FIRE – Harry in winter 01h 19’58” HARRY POTTER & THE GOBLET OF FIRE – Potter waltz 01h 22’11” HARRY POTTER & THE GOBLET OF FIRE – Underwater secrets 01h 24’34” INDOCHINE – Generique 01h 28’55” INDOCHINE – La fin du voyage 01h 34’05” INDOCHINE – Tango 01h 37’42” INTO THE WEST – Mary’s grave 01h 39’45” INTO THE WEST – The blue sea and the white horse 01h 43’18” KILLING ME SOFTLY – Alice and Jake 01h 44’52” KILLING ME SOFTLY – End titles 01h 47’38” LOVE’S LABOUR LOST – Cheek to cheek 01h 50’24” LOVE’S LABOUR LOST – I get a kick out of you 01h 53’00” LOVE’S LABOUR LOST – Let’s face the music and dance 01h 55’20” LOVE’S LABOUR LOST – The way you look tonight 01h 58’37” LOVE’S LABOUR LOST – Arrival of the princess 02h 01’48” MRS. We talk disordered eating, body image and diets through the prism of pop culture, with Hanna Flint, the author of Strong Female Character. Is there such a thing as a "responsible" way to depict an eating disorder? Can we ever forgive Richard Curtis for what he did to Martine McCutcheon? And can we fairly say that we in a more body positive era when Ozempic is becoming more normal than ever? And has pop culture made us think that eating disorders are a White Girl Problem? We mention Love Actually, Bridget Jones Diary, The Whale, Heathers, Drop Dead Gorgeous, Jacqueline Wilson, School of Rock, Queen Latifah, and the Special K "drop a jean size" challenge. It's our favorite trope - enemies to lovers! Bridget Jones Diary (2001) is up against the cult classic But I'm A Cheerleader (1999). Ruth and Kristen discuss the satire, the self-acceptance journey that both female leads must go through, Bridget Jones' body issues, and if being a bad kisser is worse than being a bad person. This week we're thinking about: How to build psychological safety with your team, clients, and community online and offline.Have you ever been somewhere, in person or even on the internet, at an event or in a group or zoom room or anywhere else, where you feel completely safe to share your thoughts, feelings, and experiences without fear of judgement? That magic is created by a deep sense of psychological safety - the shared belief held by everyone in a space that others will not embarrass, reject, or punish you for speaking up or showing up as your whole authentic self. It's not easy to find, and it definitely doesn't exist in most workplaces. It's what I strive for at every Dovetail summit, camp, or retreat, and in our online spaces. And today, it's what you and I are here to learn about, so that we can build companies where complete psychological safety is the norm, where our employees and clients are loved and accepted, “Just as they are” (every time I say that I think of Mark Darcy in Bridget Jones Diary! I'm dating myself here). On today's episode I'm talking to my friend Molly Mahar about how she has built, in my opinion, one of the most psychologically safe client communities on the internet.Molly is the founder of Stratejoy — an online community that has helped thousands of women reclaim joy and meaning in their world. Molly teaches everything she knows about claiming ownership of your life + your truth in her 10 month online program, Reclamation, which I joined this year.By the end of today's conversation you'll know… How to create a space where it's safe for everyone to show up fully Practices for maintaining consistency in building trust How to set and maintain the boundaries you need to create and maintain psychological safety for everyone in your spaceLearn more about Molly and Stratejoy at https://stratejoy.com/Follow Alexis on Instagram http://instagram.com/alexis.dovetailhttp://instagram.com/dovetailcommunityTo learn more about the podcast or follow us on social, visit https://thinkaboutthis.carrd.co/

The boys are back to dissect the silver screen adaptation of Bridget Jones Diary in a discussion about dating after 30 in the age of the answering machine. Steve shows up overdressed to a tarts and vicars party. Vince brews a batch of blue soup.
Vince and Steve shake things up in their Season 2 return with a mini-series about the woman who bridged the Atlantic to start a rom-com dynasty: Bridget Jones. The duo begins their saga with a discussion about the novel, and how the answer to the age old question of 'Darcy or Cleaver?' might just be 'Gav.'

Listen to them discuss holiday rom com topics such as wanting to be a Harry, but really being a Sally, the two sides of Hugh Grant, the fat shaming in both Bridget Jones’ Diary and Just Friends, and how painful it is to watch Jude Law be hot. In our latest episode of WTF Happened To... we take a look at the career of the multi-talented actress Renee Zellweger, who won our hearts (and had us at hello) with Jerry Maguire, took the romcom genre by storm with the Bridget Jones Diary franchise, danced her way to the top with Chicago, brought the laughs with Jim Carrey in Me, Myself & Irene and took home the gold for her supporting role in Cold Mountain. But then, Zellweger seemingly disappeared and was gone for years before re-emerging on the scene out of nowhere, prompting everyone to wonder what had happened to the shooting star. The answer may (or may not) surprise you, but we take a look at where she was and where she's going. Now, Zellweger is back on the big (and small) screen with a starring role in Judy, playing the legendary actress Judy Garland and fronting the Netflix series What/If, showing that you can't keep a great actress down.
If you listen to my podcast, you’ve heard me discuss the idea that thoughts drive emotions, actions and inevitably results. When it comes to the action of eating, our desire for food is always driven by these same thoughts and emotions. Emotional eating isn’t always the Bridget Jones’ Diary image of a recently dumped and alone woman eating a gallon of chocolate ice cream. While these extreme emotions do drive overeating, often more subdued emotions like boredom or irritation cause us to eat. Additionally, we often tie food to positive emotions associated with dating, celebrations, and family. During this podcast, I discuss my definition of emotional eating and present strategies to stop eating emotionally so you can live a naturally healthy life free from type 2 diabetes.
This week Anna and Emily go back and visit the film AND the book of Bridget Jones Diary. Oh and Pride and Prejudice... in a way. Amanda and Jenn discuss Iranian literature, light-hearted reads, favorite picture books, and more in this week’s episode of Get Booked. Subscribe to the podcast via RSS, Apple Podcasts, Spotify, or Stitcher. Take our Reader Survey Questions 1. Hi Jen and Amanda, First, I just want to say that I love your podcast. I have read so many amazing books thanks to your recommendations, so thank you! I’m writing because recently, my mother suggested that she and I read a book together, which we have never done before. She asked me to choose the book. I am so thrilled that she suggested this, but I am TERRIFIED that I will pick the wrong book. We haven’t always had the best relationship, but my mother is a good person who always tries to do the right thing. We just don’t see eye to eye… EVER. (She’s conservative, I’m liberal; she’s evangelical Christian, I’m agnostic; she is the wise and patient mother, I am the hotheaded daughter, etc.). So, I want to pick something that we will both enjoy that won’t cause too much friction between us. Her suggestion was in response to some posts I made on social media regarding the recent protests of the murder of George Floyd, so I would like the book to be by a black author and to address racism directly in some way (we are both white, fyi). Fiction and non-fiction are both ok. My mom loves biographies and autobiographies, if that helps at all. A biography of a Christian would be a huge bonus. I think she would really enjoy something like that. Thank you for your amazing podcast and all you do to advance diversity in publishing. Sincerely, -Mel 2. I have always been an obsessive reader. But after certain current events, I realized that I read a lot of books by white authors. I want to find more books by authors of color. I don’t want books that focus too heavily on racism, I have quite a few already in my tbr pile. My guilty pleasures include mystery, romance and historical fiction -Reagan 3. Hey ladies! I’m going to be welcoming a tiny human into my life at the end of September, and knowing myself and my anxieties I’m not going to want to read any books in which bad things happen to or because of tiny humans. But until then, those books are fair game. Are there any books out there with tiny human badness that are really amazing and that I should read now, lest I have to wait a decade or two to read them once my tiny human is more full-sized? -Alison 4. I recently read Marjane Satrapi’s “The Complete Persepolis” and would love recommendations for further reading. Specifically, I am looking for fiction or memoir that would give me a feel for what it was like to live through the 1979 Iranian Revolution and the years surrounding it. The only other Iran-related book I’ve read is “Funny in Farsi.” Any ideas for my next read? -Sarah 5. Like a lot of people during the COVID crisis, I’m having a lot of trouble focusing on reading. I’ve found that the only things I’ve been able to enjoy and finish are urban / contemporary fantasy books that feature humor and/or romance. So far I’ve read works by Ilona Andrews, Kate Bishop, and Rainbow Rowell. Obviously, these authors are all white. I’d like to find works in this vein by authors of color, especially BIPOC authors, and I figured you guys would have recommendations! Works by Rebecca Roanhorse, Daniel Jose Older, and Nalini Singh are all already on my TBR. Thanks! -Danielle 6. Hi girls! lately I’ve found myself reading books that are on the darker side, and while I do appreciate a great tear jerker, I’m looking for more light-hearted and fabulous reads. I want a book that makes me laugh, cry, and fall in love with the main love interest. I really enjoy books of extravagance and or books with relatable female characters. It’s been hard for me to find a chick lit novel with some depth. A few references to help you guys pick are shows like sex and the city and the bold type, as well as books like Bridget Jones Diary and even one of my favorite fabulous reads, Crazy Rich Asians. Hope that helps! -Gigi 7. Help! I’m sick of reading Press Here and the Gruffalo! I’m trying to entertain an almost 3-year-old full time and I need some new books. I just listened to your recommendation of The Girl Who CIrcumnavigated Fairyland… and I was wishing for some picture books with that sense of fantasy and wonder and wordplay. I’m craving UnLunDun or The Phantom Tollbooth but for toddlers. Does such a thing exist? I keep trying to sell him on Neil Gaiman’s Instructions, but he doesn’t love it. -Nicole Books Discussed I’m Still Here by Austin Channing Brown Motherhood So White by Nefertiti Austin The Aosawa Murders by Riku Onda, translated by Alison Watts (tw: suicide) Girl Gone Viral by Alisha Rai (tw: abusive parent) Shepherd by Catherine Jinks (tw: harm to children and, like, every animal possible) The Broken Earth Trilogy (The Fifth Season #1) by NK Jemisin (tw: so much harm to children, forced breeding) The Immortals of Tehran by Alireza Taheri Araghi (tw: suicide) Disoriental by Négar Djavadi, translated by Tina Kover Things I’ve Been Silent About by Azar Nafisi Cast in Shadow by Michelle Sagara (tw: harm to children) Want by Cindy Pon The Lost for Words Bookshop by Stephanie Butland (tw: child abuse) Sofia Khan is Not Obliged by Ayisha Malik (tw: racism, religious intolerance, internalized fat-shaming) Not Quite Narwhal by Jessie Sima Thank You, Octopus by Darren Farrell Loading…

Book Vs Movie Shoeless Joe & Field of Dreams (Yes, it was based on a novel from 1982!) Batter up! The Margos are feeling like getting out in the sunshine after all of the months of cold and rain so we are redoing our Field of Dreams ep. (You’re welcome!) Yes, it was based on a book by Canadian author W.P. Kinsella called Shoeless Joe which was published in 1982. The Phil Alden Robinson-directed movie was released 30 years ago (!) and is now considered one of the best films about baseball of all time. Kevin Costner plays Ray Kinsella and boy are there HUGE differences between the novel and the movie. Such as--Ray has a twin brother who left home to join the circus and he kidnaps none other J.D. Salinger to take him to a ballgame. (The reclusive writer was famously litigious and therefore his name could not be used on screen.) In addition to all of that, we offer trivia and behind-the-scenes gossip on one of the most beloved male weepy films ever made. So between the novel and the movie--which did we like better? Click the link at the bottom to find out. This episode is once again sponsored by Penguin Random House! Her Royal Highness by Rachel Hawkins New York Times bestselling author Rachel Hawkins returns with HER ROYAL HIGHNESS – a timely, laugh-out-loud and completely swoon-worthy queer romance about a whip-smart American girl who falls head over heels for a wild-child Scottish Princess. When Millie Quint scores a free ride to an elite prep school in the Scottish Highlands, she has no idea she’ll be rooming with Flora, the wild-child princess of Scotland. At first, they can’t stand each other, but before long Millie and Flora are… well, not enemies. And definitely more than friends. But they know that the Scottish nobility – not to mention the Scottish people – may not accept a relationship between their princess and a girl, and an American at that. After all, real life isn't a fairy tale… or is it? This standalone companion to the 2018 hit Prince Charming, is the ultimate summer read for fans of The Royal We, Becky Albertalli, and Meg Cabot. From the gorgeous Scottish setting to the will-they-won't-they love story, from the hilarious mishaps and witty banter to the classic “down-to-earth American dropped into the world of royals” plotline, there’s a little something for everyone—including those who are obsessed with the royal family, and anyone who loved early 2000’s rom-coms like The Prince and Me, What A Girl Wants, Bridget Jones’ Diary, and The Princess Diaries. So whether you’re poolside, on a beach, on a plane, or in between Netflix binges, HER ROYAL HIGHNESS is the perfect escape: a breezy read that will keep you laughing and swooning from cover to cover Read the entire series—on sale now wherever books are sold. The amount of bridge puns on the show today was ridiculous. 'This sure is going to bridge Saskatoon from the past to the future... The best part is no bridges were burned during negotiations... Saskatoon has been trying to bridge over their traffic problem for years... It's all my grandma can talk about at her weekly bridge game... This should bridge the gap between citizens and complaints about getting around town... After the ceremony, I'm going to go watch Bridget Jones Diary...' Also, fitness snacking is not as cool as it sounds.
Join Lucy Clayton and Dr Benjamin Wild for another eye-opening episode, as they explore a British phenomenon in popular culture, stating that fancy dress costume is inherently unfashionable and frequently in questionable taste. Photographs of authority figures and supposed role models in dubious dress-up regularly appear in newspapers to be excoriated by pundits and public alike. A memorable scene in Bridget Jones’ Diary, which featured Renée Zellweger wearing a Playboy bunny suit to an otherwise dowdy family get-together, will forever identify the British as past masters at donning awkward, astonishing and inexplicable costume. But what is it about fancy dress that encourages people to push the boundaries of humour and tact? Why do people in authority seem to get caught in compromising costume so frequently? Does a fancy dress ‘fail’ in fact reveal a person’s authentic character? And are some subjects simply too sensitive to ever become fancy dress? Contribute to the debate, or simply learn which costumes are best avoided altogether. Bridget Jones first appeared in diary form in the pages of The Independent during the mid-1990s, detailing her life of failed romances, over-indulgence and a determination to change. The columns were collected into a book - 1996's Bridget Jones Diary - which went on to sell over two million copies worldwide and won the 1998 British Book of the Year. A film followed in 2001 which grossed over $280 million and earned an Academy Award nomination for the film's star Renée Zellweger. Three more books and two more films followed, most recently Bridget Jones's Baby, one of the most successful British films of 2016. But Bridget has also attracted criticism. Some feel the character is ‘anti-feminist', getting cheap laughs while exploiting what are seen as some of the worst female character flaws and only finding happiness when she has landed her man. We look at the influence and legacy of Bridget Jones. Why did the character strike such a chord with readers and cinema-goers? Did the films affect the reputation of the books. Are the criticisms levelled at her justified and what influence has the franchise had on wider popular culture? Is the comic novel, as a genre, disregarded and maligned in critical circles? With Daisy Buchanan, Lucy Vine and Andy Miller. Presenter: Hayley Campbell. Producer: Dale Shaw.

For Samantha Powell, the pressure to be the perfect adult felt like a stranglehold. But this all changed with “Bridget Jones’s Diary.” The movie loosened the grip of perfectionism, and taught her she didn’t need to be flawless to be happy.

Kara Isaac's contemporary inspirational romances are rom-com adventures designed to appeal to a wide audience of readers – even those who don't share the same faith walk. Hi there, I'm your host Jenny Wheeler and today Wellington author Kara talks about combining writing laugh out loud funny love stories with her other life as pastor's wife, mother of three and public servant. Six things you'll learn from this Joys of Binge Reading episode Why Google Street View is a writer's best friend The part Bridget Jones Diary played in getting her started How a "Wellington Mum" got published by one the Big Five How long she was writing before she got published The two authors she is binge reading right now And the mind attitude that's the secret to her success Where to find Kara Isaac: Website: www.karaisaac.com Facebook and Twitter https://www.facebook.com/KaraIsaacAuthor/ and @karaisaac What follows is a "near as" but not word for word transcript of our conversation, with links to important points. Jenny: And now, here's Kara. Hello there Kara, and welcome to the show. It's great to have you with us. Kara: Thanks so much for having me Jenny: Beginning at the beginning . . . .Was there a "Once Upon A Time" moment when you realised you had to write fiction or your life would somehow be incomplete? Was there a catalyst? Kara: I've been an avid reader for as long as I can remember so I've always loved books my whole life. I'd never really thought about being a writer until I was in my twenties and I was having a coffee with a friend. I was complaining to her about how I wanted to read more Christian fiction but I just couldn't find anything that I personally related to. There was a lot of fiction - historical set romances and at that time 'Chick Lit' was coming on to the market following Bridget Jones' Diary and a lot of books were coming out that featured a 'thirty something year old heroine' desperate to get married and settled down - and that wasn't my cup of tea either. She looked at me and said "If you can't find anything you like, why don't you just write something that you would". I laughed it off, but then six months later I was on holiday and had some time on my hands. I thought I'd open a Word document and have a crack and see what happens, and I never really expected that I'd fall in love with writing and creating characters and stories, but I did. That was the beginning of 2006, so I haven't really looked back since then. Jenny: That's fantastic. That's now more than 10 years ago which is quite a reasonable apprenticeship isn't it? Kara: Yes, it's certainly felt like it that's for sure! Jenny: You've so far published three books in the contemporary inspirational romance genre as “stand alone” novels – not strictly speaking a series, but cleverly linked in the way they are set up – They all feature “international couples” – one either Kiwi or Australian and the other American and the conflicts those boundaries create – and the first two have common characters . . .. Firstly what made you choose that genre? And secondly that “set up?” Kara: There's a couple of things in there - I guess the thing that particularly draws me to inspirational romantic comedies is I love books and stories that make me laugh, and I guess the inspirational component is I like stories that explore questions of faith and life and why people make the choices that they do, and how that affects them. That was the right marriage for me as a writer; maybe one day I'll branch out somewhere different. It wasn't a clever marketing thing when I started writing Close To You. I chatted with an editor at a writers conference and she'd asked me "have you ever thought of writing a story set in New Zealand around the Lord of The Rings?" I thought in my head, that's one of the craziest ideas I've heard in my entire life because the previous eight years,
We have a very meta show for you this month: the theme is conversation, so we’ll be talking about writing about talking, from the conversation between Marco Polo and Kublai Khan in Italo Calvino’s Invisible Cities to the pithy dialogue in Bridget Jones’ Diary. You could even say that it’s a conversation about… conversations! As usual, our theme is inspired by our guest Sally Rooney, whose excellent debut novel Conversations with Friends tells the story of two female friends and former lovers, and the complicated relationship they fall into with an older married couple. Listen in and tell all your friends!
Matty P Radio Presents: Marks v. Pros & Saturday Morning Cereal
Take some time this week to remember your original happy hour: Saturday mornings as a kid, waking up at dawn, jumping on the couch with a bowl of chocolate cereal, turning on the ‘toons, tuning out the outside world, and working your way into a sugar hangover before noon. This week, recorded on the eve of Inauguration Day 2017, we talk about the Presidential election of “a coward”, “weak”, “arrogant”, “narcissistic, self-centered, feckless and vain” man. This has all happened before and it will happen again. So say we all!
