The city's move to lower requirements for the entry physical exam at its police academy is part of a broader effort nationally to reevaluate policies that keep law enforcement applicants out of the job pool amid a hiring crisis. BETSY ALSO EXPANDS ON THE TRAGEDY IN EAST LANSDOWNE INVOLVING LOCAL OFFICERS - HOW TO CONTINUE TO CHANGE THE CULTURE OF CRIME IN OUR REGION - BETSY EXPANDS ON THE REPORT BELOW AS WELL.... (NBC News)New York Gov. Kathy Hochul said Thursday that the reported migrants who were recorded on video assaulting two police officers over the weekend in Times Square should be deported.“Get them all and send them back,” she said in response to a question about the people who have been arrested in connection with the assaults. “You don't touch our police officers. You don't touch anybody...” Assaulting a police officer is a federal crime, and such a charge can make a person eligible for deportation. A police spokesperson told NBC News on Thursday that all of the seven people arrested in the incident so far are migrants... About 8:30 p.m. Saturday, officers tried to disperse a disorderly group on 42nd Street when a physical altercation broke out, a police spokesperson said. When officers tried to arrest a person, “multiple unidentified individuals repeatedly kicked and punched the officers in the head and body,” the spokesperson said... Five of the seven who have been arrested were arraigned and released on their own recognizance, a spokesperson for the district attorney's office said... Those five defendants face felony charges that carry a penalty of up to seven years, the spokesperson said. Hochul on Wednesday criticized the decision to allow the suspects to be released. “I'm not satisfied with that at all,” she said. “These are law enforcement officers who should never, under any circumstances, be subjected to physical assault. It's wrong on all accounts, and I'm looking to judges and prosecutors to do the right thing. We have changed bail laws. We have different laws now as a result of what we did in 2022, in the 2023 budgets, and we're seeing a decline in repeat offenders. We have all sorts of data that shows it's working, but that situation is abhorrent to me.” Read more. SGT BETSY BRANTNER SMITH JOINS DAWN LIVE! BETSY EXPANDS ON THE STATE OF PHILADELPHIA LEADERSHIP AS NEW MAYOR CHERELLE PARKER SETS A POLICE PRESENCE IN INFAMOUS KENSINGTON DISTRICT... HOW CAN KEVIN BETHEL AND PARKER FIND A WAY TO ENFORCE LAW & ORDER... BETSY ALSO EXPANDS ON THE RECENT TREND OF "SWATTING" AND FINDING A WAY TO COMBAT THIS PROBLEM THAT WASTES TIME, EFFORT, AND RESOURCES FROM MANY POLICE DEPTS NATIONWIDE...  According to Morning Brew, incidents of swatting involving politicians and judges are on the rise across the U.S.On Sunday, swatters targeted Tanya Chutkan, the federal judge presiding over the case concerning Donald Trump's alleged attempts to overturn the 2020 election, claiming there was a shooting at her house (there wasn't). And she's just the latest in a recent wave of swatting—a form of harassment that involves calling the police under false pretenses to send a SWAT team to someone's home. Federal lawmakers including Georgia Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, New York Rep. Brandon Williams, and Florida Sen. Rick Scott have been swatted recently.Jack Smith, the special counsel who's prosecuting former President Trump in two cases, was swatted on Christmas Day.A 911 caller pretended to have broken into the home of Maine Secretary of State Shenna Bellows the day after she disqualified Trump from being on the state's primary ballot...The fake calls often claim a bomb threat, murder, or burglary, creating a dangerous situation as law enforcement arrives prepared to deal with potentially armed criminals... What's being done about it: Multiple politicians have called for legislation that would make it easier to identify those responsible for swatting and levy stronger penalties. For now, no arrests have been made in connection with these crimes as the callers almost always use fake caller ID or phone spoofing software to remain untraceable. For perspective on what can be done to stop this, turn to a 29-year law enforcement veteran who now trains officers around the world. Sgt. Betsy Brantner Smith (Ret.) is spokesperson for National Police Association, a non profit that supports law enforcement officers across the U.S. She began her career as a police dispatcher at age 17 and has held positions in patrol, investigations, narcotics, juvenile, hostage negotiation, crime prevention, K-9 and field training. BETSY ALSO EXPANDS ON ALL OF THE LATEST IN PHILADELPHIA WITH DAWN... BETSY EXPANDS ON PROMPT BELOW... Writing in the New York Post, former Queens executive district attorney Jim Quinn argues that stats touting a reduction in New York City crime are misleading. Last week, the NYPD issued a press release touting the 4.1% reduction in crime in November 2023 compared to November 2022.But when you look at the numbers year to date, crime is down a statistically insignificant 0.77% this year compared to 2022, but it is a hefty 33.7% higher than it was in 2019, before bail reform and discovery reform trashed our criminal justice system... New York City felony index crimes went down in 17 of the 20 years between 2000 and 2019. Crime went down every year from 2014 through 2019. It was only after thousands of “non-violent” career criminals were released from city jails (pre-COVID) in early 2020 that crime began to rise. For perspective on this, turn to a 29-year law enforcement veteran who now trains officers around the world. RETIRED SGT BETSY BRANTNER SMITH JOINS DAWN LIVE! BETSY EXPANDS ON THE STATE OF POLICING IN OUR CITIES, AS WELL AS THE PURPOSED SKI MASK BAN HERE IN PHILADELPHIA - BETSY REPLIES TO THE FOLLOWING PROMPTS... (The Philadelphia Inquirer)Philadelphia City Council is poised to ban the wearing of ski masks in certain public spaces this week, a move that police say could help them solve more crimes and stop more pedestrians they suspect of being involved in criminal activity...The bill allows the city to fine people $250 for wearing ski masks in parks, schools, and on public transit. There are carve-outs for religious expression and “First Amendment activities” like protesting... The ACLU says it could violate free expression rights and be misused by officers stopping and frisking pedestrians — a controversial but legal law enforcement tactic that's been embraced by Mayor-elect Cherelle Parker... (Bill author) Councilmember Anthony Phillips... said during a hearing on the bill earlier this month that several recent shootings were committed by people in ski masks. He cited the September 2022 shooting at Roxborough High during a football scrimmage, when 14-year-old Nicolas Elizalde was fatally gunned down. Several of the shooters were seen on surveillance footage the same day, but their faces were obscured by ski masks. Several states, including Virginia, Florida, and Georgia, have similar bans on people wearing facial coverings that are intended to disguise their identity. The Police Department is supportive of the legislation, but its leadership says enforcing the rule and issuing citations may be complicated given the exceptions. Read more. For perspective on whether banning ski masks would help law enforcement, turn to a 29-year law enforcement veteran who now trains officers around the world. (New York Post)New York's Finest continue to bolt from the job at an alarming rate, according to new data obtained by The Post — and some cops worry the exodus will only get worse because the city plans to cancel the next five Police Academy classes, shrinking the nation's largest police force to the smallest its been in decades.A total of 2,516 NYPD cops have left so far this year, the fourth highest number in the past decade... The number of cops quitting before they reach the 20 years required to receive their full pensions also skyrocketed from 509 in 2020 to 1,040 so far this year — an alarming 104% increase, the data show... The drastic cuts will reduce the department to just 29,000 cops by the end of fiscal year 2025 — the lowest level since the mid-90s. Read more. NBC News notes that communities across the nation are struggling to retain and recruit law enforcement officers: America is in the midst of a police officer shortage that many in law enforcement blame on the twofold morale hit of 2020 — the coronavirus pandemic and criticism of police that boiled over with the murder of George Floyd by a police officer... U.S. Medal of Honor awardee Sgt. Leroy Petry joins Tim to tell his Medal of Honor story, from a life and death battle in Afghanistan to the very definition of the word, “honor.” Sgt. Petry is a retired U.S. Army Ranger who is one of the few to receive the military's highest honor, and one of the very few medal recipients who have survived to tell their own story. This episode was first released October 20, 2020. https://traffic.libsyn.com/secure/shapingopinion/Encore_-_Sgt._Leroy_Petry.mp3   In April of 1862, a group of Union Soldiers in the middle of the Civil War had an assignment. They were supposed to make it across Confederate lines to steal a Confederate train car and ride it to Union lines. Along the way, they were supposed to destroy track and depots, cutting off the Confederate supply lines and transportation. That group of Union solders was called “Andrews Raiders.”  Twenty-five men volunteered for the mission that ended in a dramatic train chase and capture by Confederate forces. Eight of the original 25 volunteers escaped. Three were declared missing. Another eight were hanged. Among those who were executed was leader James Andrews. Another six found their way back to the Union Army as part of a prisoner exchange a year later. That following March, the survivors met with President Lincoln who thanked them for their service and their efforts in the daring mission, and he told them they'd be the first to receive a new honor. The Medal of Honor. And with that, he had a prototype of the medal and gave it to the youngest member of the group, Private Jacob Parott. Jacob Parott was the first in the Army to receive what is now regarded as the highest honor any member of America's military can receive. The Medal of Honor is the award for valor in combat for all members of the armed forces. Since 1862, more than 3,400 such honors have been bestowed, many if not most of them, posthumously. Not many who earn such an award, live to talk about it. Today, the Medal of Honor is awarded sparingly to service members who as the Army says are, “the bravest of the brave; and that courage must be well documented.” Since the medal is awarded sparingly, and so many of those who receive it die in combat, there are few recipients alive today to tell their story. This is Episode 13 of @lets_grab_a_cup podcast. Community Engagement and the Challenge of Perception. An interview with Retired Sgt Jason Lehman.Knowing someone for who they were and accepting them as they change is a challenge. With Law Enforcement in general, change is inevitable yet communities across the country continue to struggle with accepting police officers as humans who want to develop positive relationships with the community. This episode, I sit down with Retired Sgt Jason Lehman. Jason has been recognized as the National Expert on Community Policing by LEXIPOL (a nation-wide training institute) and Jason's goal is to provide training to law enforcement officers across the country on the ability to affect change within communities by "getting 2% better every day." Jason has dealt with his own challenges and his own story and this episode explores that journey. Each of us should want to get better every day, and yet can we accept those around us who are trying to change for the better. I appreciate Jason for taking time to sit down and tell his story. If you want to find Jason, you can find him on Instagram @jasonlehman64 or @teamwysm and also at www.wysm.org. This podcast is brought to you by Sturgeon Wellness (Intentionality, Authenticity, Resiliency). I am fully invested in the idea of a transparent, authentic, and intentional type of leader. I believe that we can do better for those we serve and those who serve along-side us. Let's step up by being vulnerable. Vulnerability is the true super-power. My goal is to find the leadership values within each one of us and really dive deep to bring it to the forefront. Find more on my website - Sturgeonwellness.com or letsgrabacup.com. The Todd Herman Show
Elon panic tells us everything. Do you trust Elon Musk? My wife doesn't trust him a bit. Plus, an incredible opportunity to give a personal note of thanks to one of the few, living veterans of the Korean War, a war many veterans feel has been forgotten

THE THESIS: On Elon buying Twitter: All the right people are panicking in all the right ways to tell us what we need to know. Jeff Bezos is suddenly deeply concerned about China. The Figurehead is suddenly in favor of social media “reform.” CNN'ers are panicked about a place where people speak freely … comparing it to a violent anarchy. NBC and CBS say it will cause great danger for black people and “women” [Ed: WOMEN? What's a woman, guys?] But, none of this means we know Elon Musk's true intent. One thing for sure, he is NOT our savior and we cannot forget that.  THE SCRIPTURE & SCRIPTURAL RESOURCES:  Mark 10:18 18 “Why do you call me good?” Jesus answered. “No one is good—except God alone. Luke 8:17 17 For there is nothing hidden that will not be disclosed, and nothing concealed that will not be known or brought out into the open. John 15:13 13 Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one's life for one's friends. THE NEWS & COMMENT: Does everyone remember Jenn Psaki admitting the regime works with social media companies to flag what they consider problematic posts?   Psaki casually admitting again that the White House has worked with Big Tech to censor information on their platforms.  "We engage regularly with all social media platforms about steps that can be taken [on combatting misinformation]." The panic from Mockingbird Media members and leftists likely comes from the fact that, if Musk does make Twitter a free speech platform, there will be a huge crack in the Party's wall of propaganda (or their Propaganda of Silence(™). And, let's all recall how The Party used their wall of propaganda to attack our election process, as detailed in their confession in Time Magazine (now behind a paywall), but covered well by The Federalist:  Time Magazine Gushingly Profiles The Successful ‘Conspiracy' To Rig The 2020 Election Here's what Elon wants us to think of his intentions as owner of Twitter:  The people in this video, all panicked and enraged that Elon owns Twitter, shows they suffer from the same dynamic as people who were suddenly terrified of a flu and just as suddenly passionately in love with Zelensky: they have been shown “the new thing” by the Mockingbirds.  MASHUP! Libs aren't coping well with Elon Musk buying Twitter. A DOZEN people already deactivated their accounts. How will Elon ever recover from this? My wife doesn't trust Elon Musk for many of these reasons.  Honestly, who can tell me if this is satire? There are all too many people who think this way.  . . .  if that is satire, it's well done.   I love James Woods. But, I am going to hold off on calling Musk a hero until he does something heroic (I would also appreciate it if he paid us back our tax money he used--and uses--for Tesla).  This retweet from Jeff Bezos is utterly hilarious. As of March of 2021, about 75% of new products on Amazon are made in China.Products made in China are 38% of the top products on Amazon, down all of 2% since last year. Like the CCP, Bezos happily censors speech he dislikes: because they wouldn't blockade the Hunter Biden news, Amazon banned Parler from the cloud service, which effectively killed the company. The Bezos Washington Post banned the Hunter Biden story and recently, one of their “reporters” worked with German hackers (who are often on the payroll of Germany's government propaganda arm), to doxx the lady who runs Libs of TikTok. But, yeah . . . Jeff's super concerned about the CCP and freedom of speech in the town square.  So, will The Party let Elon go unpunished if he becomes a class traitor and brings free speech on Twitter? Jenn Psaki is threatening antitrust attacks and Section 230 reform (which shouldn't be a threat to Musk if he actually runs Twitter as a platform rather than a publisher).  Psaki on Elon Musk buying Twitter: "The President has long been concerned about the power of large social media platforms ... and has long argued that tech platforms must be held accountable for the harms they cause." As he seems to do, Ron DeSantis was quick to get on this topic.  DeSantis responds to Elon Musk's purchase of Twitter  Most predictably and most amusingly, the Mockingbird Media is alarmed.  Stelter on Elon Musk buying Twitter: "If you get invited to something where there are no rules, where there is total freedom for everybody, do you actually want to go to that party or are you going to decide to stay home?"  NBC & CBS: 'Bully' Elon Musk Buying Twitter Unsafe for Women & Minorities Let's do ourselves a favor and take the opportunity to honor a true hero.  Our friend, Dave “The Digital” Parkhurst joins us to talk about his heroic dad. Retired Sgt. Robert Parkhurst is one of the last living Korean War vets. Many guys his age consider that the “forgotten war.” Wait until you hear what Robert just now told Dave about what happened to him in North Korea. Our worldwide footprint has EXPANDED!  We’re currently debuting in more than 73 countries!  Thank you so much to everyone who has tuned in across the globe – we’d be nothing without your support. On this smokin’ hot, new episode of Light ‘Em Up … We have the high honor and privilege to sit and talk with a true role model – a dear friend of mine and a highly decorated, dedicated career law enforcement officer with 4 decades of exemplary service to the citizens of the great City of Cleveland, Ohio. During times when law enforcement is taking a rightful beating for the actions of more than a few, it is great to talk with a true hero who has maintained the highest standard of public service and has labored extremely hard daily --- having kept his nose clean for 39 years. He’s the recipient of The Officer of the Year on the B shift –  ● The Medal of Heroism – ● The Medal of Valor –  And … ● The Public Safety Hero of the Year –The bright light shines down as we are in the interrogation room with Retired Cleveland Police Department Sgt. Victor Hayes.  All who know him and love him refer to him lovingly and respectfully as “Crown Vic”.  We drill deep on: From his roots in the deep south of Dallas County, Arkansas where many members of law enforcement were entrenched in organizations such as The KKK -- and being terrified of police -- to starting his career in public service as a fire fighter in Maryland,  and investigating crime on the mean streets of the City of Cleveland, Ohio, to recalling countless times when he made decisions that kept people out of prison – he shares with us his experiences and professional insight on:  ● What has happened to policing? Have the wheels come off of the “policing bus”? ● We discussed some of the current hiring dilemmas that plague policing and discuss why it  can be so difficult to find "quality, qualified candidates" to serve.  ● How can policing practices promote healthy crime reduction while building the public trust? ● We can’t get away from the fact that the origins of the police in this country were to serve as slave patrols -- organized groups of armed men who monitored and enforced discipline upon slaves in the antebellum U.S. southern states.● We inquire if 21st century policing has shed the foundational concepts of how it originally perceived and reacted to individuals of color? We all know and have had a front row seat to witness, unfortunately “the few can define the many” – 1 bad apple can spoil the bunch: ● How do we go about weeding the bad seeds out of the profession?● What do we want our police to do? ● Are we expecting too much from them, to be social workers, emergency medical practitioners, and keepers of the peace, simultaneously? ♦ We explore some ideas for trying to reduce the incidents of active shooter events that we see daily across our county. And we talk about U.S. v Cleveland (the consent decree):  The Cleveland Police Department and The Department of Justice entered into a consent decree which requires the Cleveland Police Department to make a number of fundamental changes to its policies, practices and procedures to address these issues in light of the murder of Timothy Russell and Ma’lissa Williams in 2014.All this and so much more!  You are in a zone car on the rough and tumble, means streets in the City of Cleveland, Ohio with Retired Cleveland Police Sgt. Victor Hayes. Please like, subscribe and share!Tune in and enjoy! Thanks much!Executive ProducerPhil Rizzo

U.S. Medal of Honor awardee Sgt. Leroy Petry joins Tim to tell his Medal of Honor story, from a life and death battle in Afghanistan to the very definition of the word, “honor.” Sgt. Petry is a retired U.S. Army Ranger who is one of the few to receive the military's highest honor, and one of the very few medal recipients who have survived to tell their own story. https://traffic.libsyn.com/secure/shapingopinion/Medal_of_Honor_-_Leroy_Petry_auphonic.mp3 In April of 1862, a group of Union Soldiers in the middle of the Civil War had an assignment.
