The classes and videos take an approach that all can not only understand, but learn from without complicating things. He started foraging in 2008 and since then has covered thousands of miles on foot foraging and learning plants in his state of Indiana. Josh often spends 40 or more hours a week in nature and loves to encourage others to connect with nature and themselves. He has worked with girl scout troops, boy scout troops, and conservation societies in his state. The connection with nature goes deep as he has healed himself from depression and controlled a lifelong struggle with it and suicidal thoughts by connecting with nature in unconventional ways. He loves giving thanks to nature and embraces the title of “Tree Hugger,” challenging the idea that being called a “Tree Hugger” is a bad thing. His approach to teaching is down to earth and often times will include some light humor and references to popular media as a way to bring us all together. His Youtube channel and business is named after his favorite plant, Trillium, because of the trinity of leaves representing healthful Mind, Soul, and Nature. Read more about his offerings at: https://www.trilliumwildedibles.com and check out his excellent free foraging videos at: @TrilliumWildEdibles Enjoy more of Wolf's Plant Healer's Path vids housed here: Plant Healer's Path on YouTube And SUBSCRIBE to the HerbRally YouTube channel to not miss any of its frequent postings. *Your likes and comments on this video are much appreciated by us all!*

I've got two new New Mexico episodes of Photowalks all cued up for you. We leave Santa Fe for a drive north to tiny Abiquiu, pop. 200, where the beloved artist Georgia O'Keeffe had her home, in both town and the nearby Ghost Ranch. What's a visit there like? Let me show you. From Abiquiu, we continue further north, to perhaps my favorite spot in the Land of Enchantment, Taos, home to the oldest living continuous community in the United States, the Taos Pueblo, a thriving artist community and some of the best desert landscape you'll see anywhere. This is a return visit to Taos—the last time I did an episode there two years ago the Pueblo was closed, and I hadn't yet met Ruthann McCarthy, Sol Lothe or Alberto Real from the amazing Camino Real Imports shop. Ruthann is the friendly woman in the cowgirl hat who runs the Legacy Cafe in the town Plaza—her family has been in the Plaza for over 100 years and no one knows Taos like she does. Sol is the character who takes people up, up and away in his Rio Grande Balloons. He was nice enough to invite me up there for a ride in his beautiful balloon, and do a great interview from the skies. Alberto's family runs this electric curio shop, with seemingly over 1 million items—everything from sun art, hanging ristras and pottery, to lots and lots of skulls. These episodes were filmed primarily on the iPhone 16 Pro and 15 Pro Max models, with some key balloon shots on the Insta360 X4 and driving shots on the GoPro Hero 12. And ICYMI: Santa FeNorthern New Mexico, as you can see in the videos, is extra magical in late October, with beautiful fall colors, so mark your calendars for next year. I hope to be back in the spring, with visits to Las Cruces, Roswell, White Sands and more, so stay tuned. Thanks as always for watching, reading and listening. One week until Season 6 begins (March 11)! Here's a bonus encore episode, a highlight from a couple seasons ago about Georgia O'Keeffe and the loner legend that followed her to the end. In the early 1970s, when an ambitious curator comes calling, it seems the head ghost of Ghost Ranch is in fact the host with the most—and hardly ever alone. A fresh look at a myth we can't stop believing.

Hello Beautiful Soul Sisters!!! Happy Returning of the Light if you are in the Northern Hemisphere! I was hoping to publish this episode on the Winter Solstice, but my first recording's audio was incredibly bad… I am sorry to say this one does have some random feedback but is much better! I did purchase a new microphone but the little issues in this episode seem to be from an unstable internet connection, so perhaps the next episode I record will have to be with my hotspot…. I hope that you still find ease in your listening. I am celebrating with you the return of the light as we have moved past the darkest day and longest night of the year! This is a solo episode where I share stories of two different women only gatherings I had the honor of experiencing in November and December. One was a gathering I hosted at Skalitude in Washington State, the other at Ghost Ranch in New Mexico hosted by Kimberly Ann Johnson. Both incredibly potent and transformational!!! I am continuing to bask in the love & joy of these experiences as I take time to integrate & soak them into my full being. So much love to you all!! If you want to leave me a review on apple podcasts I will Gift you an intuitive psychic reading in Gratitude & Thanks! As each of you are unique, the reading will be as well, I can share that most women express their experience with words like “held, witnessed, loved, connected, aligned, they feel increase trust in themselves, they feel seen and often feel more centered with clarity about their purpose and path” The reading will be given through a voice message on email. What I need from you is a screenshot of the review you have written and a short voice or video message of yourself introducing yourself to me, stating & spelling out your name for me. Send it to me via email at amana@birthingnova.love and I will send your reading back to you as soon as I am able. Thank you Thank you for taking the time and energy to write me a review!!! In the 1970s, Georgia O'Keeffe is supposedly the hermit savant of the New Mexico badlands, rarely heard and seldom seen, even as the outside world can't get enough of her enigmatic art. But when curators, journalists, and even the FBI come calling, it seems the head ghost of Ghost Ranch is the host with the most—and hardly ever alone. A fresh look at a myth we can't stop believing. You can see one of O'Keeffe's badlands pictures, "Black Place I," in the collection of the Minneapolis Institute of Arts: https://collections.artsmia.org/art/119128/black-place-i-georgia-okeeffe Also, one of her iconic views from Ghost Ranch, "Pedernal--From the Ranch #1": https://collections.artsmia.org/art/1554/pedernal-from-the-ranch-1-georgia-okeeffe And a photograph of her with husband Alfred Stieglitz: https://collections.artsmia.org/art/1973/stieglitz-and-okeeffe-arnold-newman

I spoke with Iris Scott on Jan 14, 2022. It was lovely to speak with another nature lover who gets the fact that everything and everyone is connected. The natural world has an advocate in Iris Scott. Her story of becoming the artist she is today is filled with just doing the next thing and following her passion. She shares some key aspects of her story and how not always doing what everyone else is doing is where you find the magic. BioIris Scott is an American contemporary painter working in the Instinctualist style. Instinctualism is 40,000 years old, making it the oldest school of human mark-making, with thematics founded in animal imagery and mystical experience. Iris grew up in Maple Valley, Washington on what she describes as a “one-family hippie commune”. Iris and her sister spent evenings listening to their mother, a writer, tell epic tales about the anthropomorphized lives of the family's pet parrots, lizards, cats, goats, and rabbits—with wild roaming coyotes appearing in the stories as special guest stars. As a result of this deep connection with animals during her upbringing, the agon of Iris's work is closing the distance between humans and nature. After studying in Florence, in the same centuries-old halls where Raphael, Michelangelo, and Da Vinci worked, Iris moved to a tiny apartment overlooking a rainforest outside of Kaohsiung, Taiwan; from there she launched her career. Her artistic journey took her from Taiwan, to Seattle, and then to Brooklyn, New York, where she lived and worked in a loft space of a former mattress factory. During the six-year-long NYC period, Iris began a relationship with the cutting-edge Filo Sofi Arts Gallery. Her 2019 solo show, Ritual in Pairing, held in Chelsea, was attended by Jerry Saltz and received coverage from outlets like New York Magazine, Smithsonian Magazine, and Artnet. On the West coast, Iris is represented by Adelman Contemporary. The successes of New York (and living on “the nosiest street in America”) led Iris, in 2020, to seek isolation and solitude in New Mexico, overlooking Ghost Ranch, Georgia O'Keeffe's old stomping grounds. She has built a house and studio adjacent to national wilderness and currently lives within walking distance of caves, dinosaur bones, native ruins, and petroglyphs. Here, Iris is connecting to the Instinctualist impulses of the earliest human artists. In Spring 2022, Iris will unveil a new body of work, and a new technique at Filo Sofi Arts. The fresh collection shall depict the desert otherworld of Northern New Mexico—the stark landscape, occupied by resilient plants that twist and claw their way around the rocks, adamant on survival. Her life's goal is to transcend Industrialism's cultish trend of separation from nature, and depict a new mythos of the oldest truth: we are all one.www.irisscottfineart.com
Tamara and Kim recently traded the northern cold and rain for Arizona's sunny skies on a "momcation" or girlfriend getaway to Tempe, Arizona. Find out what makes this college city a great option for either a family vacation or a girls' trip. With plenty of outdoor activities and great food, there is a lot about Tempe that may surprise you! Note: This episode was created in partnership with Tempe Tourism. All opinions are our own and we thank them for supporting our work! Planning a Trip to Tempe, AZ Tempe is adjacent to Phoenix, Arizona, but really more of its own city than just a suburb. Tempe is home to Arizona State University (ASU) so it has a college town feel, but there are also many large businesses with offices in Tempe and it is a growing city. It is easy to get to Tempe. Phoenix Sky Harbor airport has many affordable, direct flights and it is only a 10-15 minute Uber ride from PHX to downtown Tempe. You can also take the light rail directly from the airport station for only $2.00. If you plan on staying in downtown Tempe, you don't need a car as it is easy to walk, bike, Uber, or take public transportation. However, if you want to explore more of the area or enjoy some of the attractions and restaurants outside of downtown Tempe, you will probably want to rent a car for your trip. There are many things to do outdoors in Tempe including water-based activities on Tempe Town Lake, biking, relaxing at the pool, shopping, walking around downtown Tempe or the ASU campus, and enjoying outdoor dining. Tempe hosts many large events including the Iron Man race, baseball spring training, and in 2023 the Super Bowl will be held nearby. Tempe has recently expanded its hotel inventory to include the Westin Tempe, Canopy by Hilton, and soon the Omni Hotel and Vīb by Best Western. We stayed at the Tempe Mission Palms hotel in downtown Tempe, which was a great location for exploring. The Junior Suites are very spacious and quiet. The hotel has a nice pool and hot tub with a view of "A" mountain. Some fun things to do in Tempe include: Hiking "A" Mountain / Hayden Butte at sunrise or sunset Kayaking or paddle boarding on Tempe Town Lake with Boat Rentals of America Renting bikes or e-bikes from North Shore Water Sports to bike through town or along the lake bike paths Tempe has 218 miles of bike paths and bike lanes in Tempe, making it a great city for bikers and car-free living You can also rent scooters to explore Tempe Shopping and dining at the Tempe Marketplace, which has a great entertainment district with tons of great dining options Take photos in front of some of Tempe's murals Relaxing at the hotel pools. Some hotels like the Tempe Westin and Canopy by Hilton have great rooftop pools and lounges. These are also a great spot to see the sunset See a baseball game during Spring Training season or watching the Sun Devils college sports at ASU You can also rent a car and visit nearby Mesa or Scottsdale. Mesa is home to the Fresh Foodie Trail, which incorporates a number of farms, restaurants, and other unique stops. Some things to do in Mesa include: Enjoy BBQ or chips with homemade salsa at Jalapeno Bucks, which is set in a citrus grove. This is a popular spot with locals and visitors so expect long lines and outdoor picnic table dining Queen Creek Olive Mill offers olive grove tours, outdoor dining, and shopping for olive oil and olive-oil based products If you wanted to spend the night in Mesa, check out the Cozy Peach Glamping at Schnepf Farms, which has custom renovated Airstream trailers. Schnepf Farms also hosts many seasonal events Downtown Mesa offers shopping, cideries, breweries, restaurants, coffee shops, and game/arcade spots Cider Corps is a veteran-owned cidery that offers a wide-range of ciders and also incorporates other businesses to offer pizza and coffee There are also some great murals in downtown Mesa Tempe has many great food options, including: Top of the Rock at the Buttes Marriott offers amazing views and great fine dining for special occasions. If the weather is cooler, try to book a table on the terrace for great nighttime views For breakfast: Snooze, an AM Eatery -- near the college, they have a great retro design and unique offerings Morning Squeeze -- also has a fun retro diner vibe but with more traditional breakfast offerings Daily Jam -- near the Tempe Mission Palms in downtown offers famous waffles in various flavors, including red velvet waffles For lunch: Postino Annex -- located near campus, they offer great outdoor dining and it is great for groups with many small plates and bruschetta boards, plus they offer $5 glasses of wine before 5pm Barrio Queen -- located in Tempe Marketplace, they offered great Mexican / Southwest cuisine with amazing decor, outside dining, tableside guacamole, and delicious tacos For dinner: Culinary Drop Out -- great space for families or groups with ping pong tables, corn hole, and plenty of small plates to share. It is a large and lively space Ghost Ranch -- located about 10 minutes from Downtown Tempe, Ghost Ranch is delicious southwest cuisine with great drinks House of Tricks -- located near campus, this restaurant has a beautiful garden setting, making it a great spot for a romantic dinner or a special dinner with friends or parents taking out their college student Tempe is a good spot for a girl's trip or family vacation and a more affordable alternative to the high-end resorts in Scottsdale.

Jessie Gray, the visionary of Flying Pig Improv in Wichita, Kansas, loves working and playing with people who want to soar. To do that in improv, she creates a safe and fun environment where teachers, attorneys, artists, film-makers, restaurant servers, entrepreneurs, caregivers, performers - literally, everyone, can take risks, explore their own genius, and literally celebrate “mistakes” as they make them. Every game, every scene is an opportunity for gold. And each person in the room makes a huge impact on the experience.Jessie has more than 40 years of stage experience from coast to coast as an actor, director, producer and choreographer.A few years ago, she became fascinated with the spontaneous and unscripted world of improv. After intensive study in the San Francisco Bay Area (where she lived for almost 30 years), she began to perform, and then to teach classes, and then to direct and coach improv troupes weekly. She was a regular performing troupe member of Awkward Face at Pan Theater in Oakland, CA, and Flash Mob Musical Improv in San Francisco. She also teaches an annual workshop at Ghost Ranch in New Mexico as part of the summer Creative Arts Festival as well as other improv workshops around the country by request.A theater alumnae from Wichita State University, she learned from the best: Dr. Richard Welsbacher, Joyce Cavarozzi, Mary Jane Teall, Audrey Needles, and Gina Austin-Fresh among others. She also was a student of improv notables in California’s Bay Area, which include David Alger, David Razowsky, Rachael Hamilton, Tracy Burns, Mick Laugs, and Los Angeles-based Meisner coach, Matt Chait. And now she has brought her vast experience and deep knowledge back to her hometown of Wichita, Kansas, where she has built a new improv home at Flying Pig Improv.Check out Flying Pig Improv’s classes, workshops, and performance schedule at https://www.flyingpigimprov.com.For more information about Radiate Wellness, our practitioners, services, classes, and events, visit us at radiatewellnesscommunity.com, “Like” us on Facebook as Radiate Wellness, LLC; and follow us on Twitter @RadiateKC.If you enjoy this podcast, please subscribe, rate, and review wherever you are listening. I sat down with Rabbi Nahum Ward-Lev to talk about the Liberating Path of the Hebrew Prophets. We talk about the world's need for courage, wisdom, and vision, the three qualities inherent in every prophet: “an encounter with divine love and concern for the world, courage to name oppression, and a moral imagination to articulate an alternative future.” We also discuss the importance of art, imagination, and dialogue in the prophetic tasks, the overlapping concerns of the Hebrew Prophets and the Book of Deuteronomy, and the way biblical liberation themes are found in various contemporary figures. We end with a discussion on how the prophetic critique of stability and immutability as "currency of empire" and the importance placed on a liberation journey in increasingly mutual relationships speaks with hope and care into our current COVID19 climate, and an impassioned plea to join the work of birthing a new world.Rabbi Nahum Ward-Lev founded and leads Beit Midrash of Santa Fe, a multi-faith sacred learning community. He has led workshops at retreat centers, synagogues, churches and seminaries across the United States, including Union Theological Seminary, Ghost Ranch, Santa Maria de la Vid Abbey and Stony Point Center. His teaching invites learners into an adventurous exploration that engages the body, heart and soul as well as the mind. He is an experienced spiritual director, accompanying people of many faiths. Nahum is the Scholar-in-Residence at Temple Beth Shalom in Santa Fe, NM and a Fellow of the Rabbis Without Borders Initiative. I am thrilled to introduce many of you to a wonderful scholar and new friend. Pete and I met this past summer in SoCal at the TheoPsych seminar put on by my friends in the STAR office at Fuller Seminary. (STAR=Science, Theology and Religion). Whenever someone comes on the podcast from a more conservative part of the church I am always honored, because I get lots of rejection emails - even from people who listen! Any way, most of our conversation is about his work as a psychological scientist where he is respected apart from a particular religious identity. I hope you enjoy the conversation and if you run into Pete tell him thank you for joining. Peter C. Hill, Ph.D., is Professor of Psychology at Rosemead School of Psychology at Biola University. Before coming to Rosemead in 2002, he served for 17 years as Professor of Psychology at Grove City College in Pennsylvania. In 2006 he was honored with a faculty appointment at the University of Cambridge as a Visiting Research Fellow at the Center for Advanced Religious and Theological Studies of the Faculty of Divinity. Hill is an active researcher in social psychology and the psychology of religion where he has authored approximately 100 articles in peer-reviewed journals and book chapters. In the conversation we discuss: Why the harder the science the greater % of scientists who believe in God? What are the psychological sciences? How is it an empirical science? The origin story of psychology and the current move towards positive psychology How do you define religion? The search for the sacred? Virtue and character formation What do psychologist think of theologians? Are humans naturally religious? How humans 'think' and make judgements What's going on when we argue and act a fool about religion and politics? Where polarization comes from the nature of religious trauma and paths to healing religious identity in adolescence advice on passing on the beautiful elements of your faith This Episode is Sponsored By: THE GHOST RANCH Renowned for its natural beauty spanning 21,000 acres, Ghost Ranch is located in the high desert of northern New Mexico, 70 miles north of Santa Fe. Owned by the Presbyterian Church, the ranch is welcoming to everyone. Breathtaking views of red and yellow cliffs, Abiquiu Lake and Pedernal Mesa have inspired countless musicians, theologians, and generations of artists, most famously Georgia O'Keeffe. Day visitors and overnight guests are welcome. Rooms are rustic yet comfortable and many are historic buildings from the ranch's earliest days as a dude ranch. Several tiers of lodging, including campsites, offer something for every budget and adventure type. Several hiking trails, year-round O'Keeffe Landscape Tours and Trail Rides, two museums, seasonal swimming pool, dining hall and trading post make this a perfect retreat destination. Over 200 workshop packages in the arts, spirituality, religion, wellness, archaeology, outdoor and family activities are offered annually. Of special interest is Wild Christ, Wild Earth, Wild Self: A Nature Based Introduction to Seminary of the Wild, which is actually a two year training program for pastors, for spiritual leaders who are already embedded in communities. These are the sorts of folks that are standing on the edge of change and want to respond faithfully by reimagining what it means to be church, by reimaging church in the wild, a way of engaging in ecological and social justice issues in a deep and transformative way. Offered in June and October of 2020. Visit GhostRanch.org for a catalog of these and other workshops. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

"The early Anthropocene is where I leave my life behind and you begin yours. You cannot know what I would give so you did not live out your days on this trajectory of climate instability, mass uncertainty, and breath taking extinction across the community of life. I pray that you are able to bring adaptation from distress. What I know, is that Anthropocene citizens who continue Holocene habits, doom their children. Nonetheless, the world has not stopped being beautiful, so claim the beauty that is. Beauty is it's own resistance." Larry L. Rasmussen is Reinhold Niebuhr Professor Emeritus of Social Ethics, Union Theological Seminary, New York City. His book, Earth-Honoring Faith: Religious Ethics in a New Key, received the Nautilus Book Awards as the Gold Prize winner for Ecology/Environment and as the Grand Prize winner for best 2014 book overall. He has been the organizer of the decade project on Earth-Honoring Faith at Ghost Ranch. An earlier volume, Earth Community, Earth Ethics, won the prestigious Grawemeyer Award in Religion of 1997. A diary from a 200 mile desert hike on the Continental Divide Trail to visit the home of artist Georgia O'Keeffe
We’re traveling to New Mexico this week! Santa Fe, Abiquiú, and Ghost Ranch make up the holy trinity of O’Keeffe Country. At each of these stops, we’ll look at artwork that defines O’Keeffe’s legacy and why she’s remembered as one of the most remarkable artists of the 20th century.
Hi all. Adam Pritchard here. I’ve been thinking about telling the story of my field experience in the Triassic-aged Chinle Formation of northern New Mexico for many years. The Hayden Quarry fossil site at Ghost Ranch has produced the best-preserved and most diverse record of American dinosaurs from the Triassic of North America, plus some […] The post Episode 20: Digging the Dawn of Dinosaurs – Paleontology at Ghost Ranch appeared first on Past Time Paleo.
Luke 13:10-17
This week is all about Game of Thrones and/or A Song of Ice and Fire featuring returning guest to the show Miles Traer! If you're not caught up on both the show and the books, consider this your all-purpose SPOILER WARNING. 00:00:00 - First up: time travel. How does time travel in a fantasy story work? Apparently, there are three options, and we mainly stick to one, but it's not without its paradoxes. Check out this nifty drawing from Ben for a diagram of just what we think happened in the already infamous Hodor episode. 00:37:53 - They drink a lot in Westeros, so to keep it authentic, we follow suit. Ben begins with a double shot of weird Sangaria brand soft drinks: carrot and traditional. Miles follows up with a 'Westerosi'-style cocktail, the Sazerac; even if he and Ryan disagree about the proportions. Ryan does what his wife does, and has a Three Philosophers from Brewery Ommegang. It makes sense in context. 00:44:15 - There's a lot more science to be done in Westeros than just time travel. Fortunately, Matt Shipman organized a blog carnival, featuring science posts from some of our favorite former guests such as Brian Switek, Jacquelyn Gill, and David Hone. If you want more info on the solar neighborhood of the planet and how that affects climate, check out this paper from the ArXiv. And finally a geology post from Miles Traer, which he tells us a bit about, but you'll need to read the whole thing for the details. 01:08:38 - PaleoPOWs are a lot like open-ended epic fantasy series; they're both often long overdue. We being with Ben announcing a new recurring donation from Peter C. Thanks, Peter! Next up, Tyler V. wants to know, based on our previous hesitation to call the Anthropocene a thing, how future paleontologists might respond to the discovery of mass human graves as a feature of the debated epoch. That's pretty dark, Tyler, but we sort of have an answer, and it reminds Ryan in particular of a certain dinosaur site called Ghost Ranch. Ryan has an anniversary message from Cyn, who found the show thanks to Ben, because Ben is great. Finally, be sure to also check out Miles' excellent podcast Generation Anthropocene. Thanks for listening and be sure to check out the Brachiolope Media Network for more great science podcasts!
