Angel Academe co-founder and CEO Sarah Turner and SyndicateRoom co-founder Tom Britton joined Stephen Gunnion in the Proactive studio following the launch of a new EIS fund focused on supporting female-led startups. Turner explained that this is the first EIS fund of its kind in the UK, aiming to correct the imbalance in venture capital allocation. “We're still at a point where women-only founded businesses are receiving less than 2% of all venture capital invested,” she said. The fund offers immediate diversification by targeting 8 to 12 companies, allowing investors to spread risk in what Turner described as a high-risk asset class. The initiative builds on Angel Academe's track record of over 100 funding rounds across 54 companies, including notable successes such as Béa Fertility, which recently secured FDA approval for its fertility device. Britton outlined his firm's role in structuring and administering the fund. He emphasised the importance of supporting female founders and explained the tax benefits associated with EIS investments, including 30% income tax relief and capital gains exemptions. The fund is now open to retail investors via SyndicateRoom.com, with a minimum investment of £10,000. Visit Proactive's YouTube channel for more investor interviews. Welcome to The Spark—your weekly creative pick-me-up from The Creative Boom Podcast. Every Thursday, we bring you a shorter, snappier episode filled with inspiration, creative news, and practical tips to carry you through the week. Whether you need motivation or insights, we've got you covered! This week, host Katy Cowan sat down with Khyati Trehan, a designer and 3D visual artist currently based at Google Creative Lab in New York. Khyati shared a glimpse into one of the most innovative creative spaces in the world—a rare treat! What stood out most was how she juggles working at the cutting edge of technology, collaborating on personal projects like visual designs for her sister's music, and decompressing with reality TV. She opened up about how she avoids burnout while staying energised and inspired, even in the high-pressure environment of Google. Khyati also discussed generative AI, emphasising that while it's a tool to enhance creativity, "writing prompts doesn't make you an artist". For her, AI is a collaborator, not a replacement, expanding what's possible without diminishing the joy of creating. If you've ever wondered how someone can stay ahead and balance so many creative pursuits without losing momentum, this episode is for you! In Creative News this week, Spotify unveiled new features for video podcasting, including ad-free viewing for Premium users and an audience-driven payout model. With over 640 million users, Spotify is rapidly growing its video podcast offerings to rival YouTube. Meanwhile, Bluesky reassured users it won't use content to train generative AI tools, setting it apart from platforms like X. While exploring ways to protect user consent, the platform continues to grow, now hosting 17 million users. And gaming is shifting toward live-service titles, driven by Gen Z's love of social interaction and self-expression. With in-game purchases accounting for 67% of global gaming income in 2023, these games are blurring lines with social media, hosting events like concerts and TV premieres. In The Spotlight this week, we highlight Creative Boom's feature on how design leaders are preparing for 2025. Despite economic challenges, studios are focusing on purpose-driven work, AI as a creative collaborator, and fostering internal culture. Leaders predict a future of meaningful partnerships and sustainable practices, ensuring creative work aligns with both client and employee expectations. Our Book of the Week is WipEout Futurism: The Graphic Archives, a deep dive into the iconic video game that revolutionised gaming and graphic design. With rare concept art and interviews, this book celebrates the groundbreaking work of The Designers Republic and the game's sci-fi-inspired branding. This week's Tip focuses on finding happiness in creative work. Strategies include balancing work with personal life, embracing self-expression, and practising mindfulness. Remember, happiness is a work in progress, built through small, meaningful steps. In our Letters to the Editor, listener Sarah Turner wrote in about this week's guest, Khyati Trehan: "I loved how she described AI as a collaborator. Her perspective reminded me that these tools can enhance creativity rather than diminish it." While Ben Mottershead shared his reflections on last week's chat with Dave Sedgwick: "I resonated deeply with the discussion on rethinking goals. Starting my own agency was a dream, but I realised it's not all it's cracked up to be. I'm now focusing on what truly matters." Don't miss next Monday's episode, where Katy chats with Barrington Reeves, creative director and founder of Too Gallus in Glasgow. They'll explore the shift from traditional agencies to smaller, agile studios and the economic challenges but great opportunities facing the industry. See you then!

Open, respectful communication is an important ingredient in a healthy parent-child relationship. Research shows that building open, respectful communication with our kids can help prevent mental health issues and behavioral struggles. But, how do we encourage our children to share their thoughts and feelings with us? How do we build stronger connections with our children? Join Geoffrey and Sarah Turner as they sit down with their daughters, Berkley and Ellie, for a heartfelt "parent evaluation" to strengthen their connection. Here's to building stronger connections with our children as we tune into thier desires, dreams, and fears to foster empathy and compassion in our parent-child relationships! * * * LET'S BE FRIENDS! HOST: Sarah Turner: Instagram | Facebook Geoffrey Turner: Instagram | Facebook * * * Beltway Park Church: Instagram | Facebook | Twitter | YouTube Beltway Park Church * * * SHOW NOTES: Questions · What can I do to be a better parent to you? · Do you feel like I listen well? · What do I do that you don't like? · What rules are confusing or do you think we should revisit? · What goal can we set as a family? · What do you like/dislike about being in our family? · What are the biggest challenges you're facing? · How can we make our family more fun? · What things are you excited about? · Is there anything I can help you with? · Do you feel as if I understand you? · What's a memory that makes you happy? · What do I do that makes you feel loved? · How would you describe our family? These are questions that you can ask your children at any time, anyplace. But you might get more detailed responses if you pick a time and location when your youngster is attentive, at ease, and not in a rush. Additionally, the less distractions, the better. These conversations can take place in a variety of settings, such as the dinner table, bedtime, car journeys, and lines or appointments where you have your child's undivided attention. Discussion starters that are likely to spark interest include things like their hobbies, interests, friends, and pop culture. Ask them questions about their interests, such as superheroes, soccer, painting, or the piano. Examples include "What do you wish would happen if..." , "What do you think would happen if…" , "What would you do…" , "How could we…" , along with "Why do you think…." If your youngster seems uninterested in answering your questions at first, don't panic. Additionally, don't go on to another one too soon or hurry them to respond. Allowing your youngster to speak at their own pace demonstrates your genuine interest in their thoughts and opinions rather than just making automatic inquiries.

Rather than focusing solely on the common uses of red light therapy, we'll dive into its potential in enhancing brain health and cognition function, managing conditions like Parkinson's disease, altering your microbiome, and enhancing the connection between your gut and brain. We'll also dive into the lesser-known areas of this therapy such as its influence on structured water and so much more. We go deep into individual case studies, current trials, and the role of dosing considerations in red light therapy to accentuate the fact that red light therapy is one of the most underrated yet powerful tools and can do some amazing things for healing and optimization – far beyond what most of us realize! Sarah is the co-founder and CEO of Ceratrhive, a company that develops a very special kind of red light therapy devices that we will also discuss in this episode. Ongoing research on the effects of red light therapy demonstrates its potential to improve cognition in individuals with Down syndrome and alleviate symptoms of major depressive disorder. Specific devices have been designed for use on the head, as the skull presents a barrier for the light to penetrate. When we apply red light to the lower abdomen, it can benefit the microbiome and overall gut health. This is due to the red light therapy targeting the vagus nerve, blood cells, and even fat cells.

Sarah will be talking to us about the Pearl of Great Price. It is a brief but powerful story that illustrates the idea that the kingdom of Heaven is of such extraordinary value that we should be willing to give up everything to attain it. Like a merchant who sells all he has to acquire a priceless pearl, this parable highlights the immeasurable worth of a deep connection with God. The story also conveys the profound value Jesus places on each one of us. Just as the merchant recognizes the immense worth of the pearl and is willing to sacrifice everything to obtain it, Jesus, in his teachings, underscores the preciousness of every soul. This parable reflects the idea that, to Jesus, each person is like that one priceless pearl. It reminds us that in the eyes of God, we are individually cherished and worth more than any earthly possession, reinforcing the notion of God's deep love and care for every human being.

We are all constantly telling ourselves stories. Our brain is wired for stories and will often gravitate towards the negative, which can give way to shame. Shame is an unreliable narrative. Shame tells us that there is something inherently wrong with us at our core. Many of us who grew up in the church think that voice telling us how wrong we are is the Holy Spirit. This Saturday, Sarah will be talking about ways to walk in freedom from the shackles of shame so we can embrace a life of grace and self-compassion.

“I'm targeting the blood, I'm targeting the mitochondria, I'm also targeting the water. And by using four distinct wavelengths, you are maximizing your chance of hitting a chromophore that's going to have a therapeutic effect,” explains Sarah Turner, a neuroscientist turned biohacker and host of the Rebel Scientist podcast. Sarah's experience working in pharmaceuticals led her to begin exploring quantum biology, specifically photobiomodulation or red light therapy. Her background in neurology informed her desire to research how light may be able to impact the brain, particularly in people with neurodegenerative diseases like Parkinson's. In this episode, Sarah speaks with host Meredith Oke about her company CeraThrive and their new photobiomodulation device for healing along the gut-brain axis. There is a common misconception that it is entirely dark within the skull, but light does penetrate into the brain. While it is a small amount of light that makes it through, it is still enough to provide significant therapeutic effects. Photobiomodulation takes advantage of the body's many natural light receptors, using four distinct wavelengths to target the blood, mitochondria, and structured water. When people are exposed to the correct light frequencies at the right times of day, this light aids the body with its repair processes. With CeraThrive's red light therapy system composed of both the device and a convenient app, people can regain control over their own health and healing without the need for pharmaceuticals. Whether you are suffering from a neurodegenerative disease like Parkinson's or simply want to improve your overall health while also reducing chronic pain, red light therapy devices like CeraThrive can help. When combined with circadian lifestyle changes like grounding and seeing the sunrise and sunset, photobiomodulation promotes optimal brain functioning and full body healing. Quotes “It's a small amount of light that actually penetrates through and gets onto the surface of the brain. However, it is enough to have a therapeutic effect.” (26:15 | Sarah) “I'm targeting the blood, I'm targeting the mitochondria, I'm also targeting the water. And by using four distinct wavelengths, you are maximizing your chance of hitting a chromophore that's going to have a therapeutic effect.” (28:29 | Sarah) “We've evolved under natural light. We're meant to be exposed to certain light frequencies at certain times of the day… It's actually a very natural thing.” (34:41 | Sarah) “We really are just animals that have taken ourselves out of our environment. The more we can kind of put ourselves back there in that natural environment, potentially, the more benefit we can get from it.” (37:02 | Sarah) Links Connect with Sarah Turner: Website: cerathrive.com Socials: https://www.linkedin.com/in/rebelscientist/ https://www.linkedin.com/company/75603411/admin/ https://www.instagram.com/cerathrive/ https://www.facebook.com/CERASystem https://www.instagram.com/rebelscientistpod/ https://www.linkedin.com/company/90730389/admin/ https://www.youtube.com/@Rebel-Scientist To find a practitioner who understand the health principles of quantum biology: www.quantumbiologycollective.org To become a QBC member and get invites to live deep dives & access to our video library: www.quantumhealthtv.com To take our 8 week practitioner certification in the science of quantum biology so that you can add it to your existing area of expertise: www.appliedquantumbiology.com Follow on Twitter, Instagram & Facebook: @quantumhealthtv Podcast production and show notes provided by HiveCast.fm
The world is currently in a heightened state of anxiety. Most often the response to anxiety is control. When we attempt to control situations or other people we only increase anxiety. The only person we can control (on a good day) is ourselves. This Sunday, Pastor Sarah will be talking to us about the triumphant nature of trust. Choosing to trust is the antidote to fearful anxiety and the path to peaceful living.
The world says we have to hustle. We have to run to keep up with the pace of others. It's been called the “rat race” for good reason. But Jesus never intended for us to frantically chase the next piece of cheese. That's no life for children of God! How do we rest in a world that says success only comes by working longer, trying harder, and hustling more is the only path to success? Jesus invites us to rest. He models the way of trusting over trying and teaches us to learn the unforced rhythms of Grace. When we align with Jesus we'll learn to live freely and lightly. This Sunday, Pastor Sarah gives us a better formula for living well: Rest > Striving.
