This week has three important transits — a challenging one sandwiched between two supportive ones. Jessica helps you make the most of it.
In school to become a dietitian, I was struggling massively in my relationship with food. Weekly binge episodes that felt like an addict getting their fix - lying, stealing and hiding so I could eat, then crying and feeling depressed for days after. Intense anxiety in any situation that was off my “usual routine” with food - holidays, parties, restaurant meals. I distinctly remember one day, sitting in lecture and learning about eating disorders. The words “Anorexia Nervosa” plastered across the big projector in front of class. Pictured was an emaciated woman standing in front of a mirror that reflected a larger bodied lady back at her. I resonated with all the big 3 eating disorders, but not fully. I had the extreme fear of weight gain of anorexia, but I was never clinically under weight. I had at times fasted, exercised more, or used laxatives after a binge - but not frequently enough to be classified as bulimic. I struggled with the binge eating episodes described in binge eating disorder - but I DID compensate sometimes after a binge. “So”, I reasoned, “I don't have any eating disorder. It must really just be a will power issue then.” And I went back on my not-so-merry way, reading articles from my favorite fitpros every night with advice on how to stick to your plan with food to reach your physique goals. If you can relate, I want you to know these 3 things: ➡️ Relationship with food is a spectrum from normal, healthy eating to a full blown eating disorder. ➡️ “Disordered eating” has serious mental and physical health consequences and requires specific solutions to heal from (hint: not general advice from fit pros or wellness influencers). ➡️ The vast majority of disordered eating involves food restriction, and you can be unhealthily restricting food while still being at a “healthy weight”. The sooner you take your issues seriously, the sooner you can be free from them. This episode of The Binge Eating Dietitian Podcast unpacks eating disorders vs disordered eating and gives you resources for healing! Mental Breakdown at Cal Poly Disqualified from Cal Poly because of my grades; got an opportunity to see a therapist;THERE IS HOPE IN JESUS” John 5:6 (NKJV) A journey surrounding mental health within our faith community. We are committed to looking to God's Word to guide us in dispelling myths & embracing mental health in accordance with His will and plan. Are you internally battling real depression, real anxiety, can't let go of the stress, & dealing with crippling fear. DEFINING MENTAL HEALTH: Mental Health is probably not the best term to describe what we're talking about because it's more involved that that… When we say “Mental Health” we're talking about spiritually health, emotionally health, & being relationally health How you THINK – IMPACTS – how you FEEL – IMPACTS - how you LIVE Your mental health determines how I handle stress; how I relate to people; how I make choices; how I bounce back from disappointment… [WHAT DOES JESUS SAY ABOUT MENTAL HEALTH…] John 14:27 (NIV) If you are overwhelmed with fear, overwhelmed with anxiety, You are absolutely human but that IS NOT FROM GOD! Romans 15:13 (NIV) Philippians 4:4-7 (NIV) MYTHS ABOUT MENTAL HEALTH THAT ARE VERY DESTRUCTIVEMyth #1: Mental Illness is a Sign of Weak Faith Myth #2: Christians Should Not Struggle With Mental Health Elijah: 1 Kings 18-19; David: 1 Samuel 17; Jeremiah (The Weeping Prophet): Whole Book Myth #3: Seeking Professional Help is a Sign of Weakness Proverbs 15:22 (NIV) 1 Corinthians 12:26 Sometimes you will need to learn some tools so that you can walk in the mental health Jesus has paid the price for you to live in. Myth #4: Mental Illness is a Punishment for Sin THREE STEPS TO INCREASE MENTAL HEALTH Don't Go At It Alone, Find the Support You Need Be Diligent to Address Your Thoughts in a Biblical Way Romans 12:2 2 Corinthians 10:4-5 [John Maxwell…] How Transformational Change Happens: When you change YOUR THINKING, you change YOUR BELIEFS. When you change YOUR BELIEFS, you change YOUR EXPECTATIONS. When you change YOUR EXPECTATIONS, you change YOUR ATTITUDE. When you change YOUR ATTITUDE, you change YOUR BEHAVIOR. When you change YOUR BEHAVIOR, you change YOUR LIFE. ALL LIFE CHANGE STARTS WHEN I CHANGE THE WAY I THINK Remember It All Starts With God and God Is For You Most people overwhelmed with discouragement and depression somehow feel like God is not for them and that He is actually against them.

Laure Arron: Who Has Your Back? Laurie Arron is the founder of Arron Coaching, LLC and trusted adviser and executive coach to C-suite executives and Chiefs of Staff. She spent 30+ years climbing the corporate ladder at a Fortune 10 company in sales leadership, strategic planning, business transformation, and Chief of Staff roles. She is the author of Who Has Your Back?: A Leaders's Guide to Getting the Support You Need from the Chief of Staff You Deserve. Executive leaders need both truth-tellers and those who can manage on their behalf. Increasingly, the Chief of Staff role is becoming more prominent. In this episode, Laurie and I discuss their role, where they add value, and how they benefit the entire team. Key Points The Chief of Staff role has become much prevalent executive role, especially in the technology, finance, and healthcare industries. A Chief of Staff is distinct from an executive assistant. A effective Chief represents the leader, manages on their behalf, and coordinates their work. Every top leader needs a truth teller. A key role of the Chief of Staff is to be up-front with the person they serve. An effective Chief is proactive and addressing issues before the leader ever know about them. They know where messages are being lost or diluted. Ideally, the Chief of Staff helps create a climate of free expression throughout the team. When it comes to navigating stress and being overwhelmed, it's important to get our hands up, stress down, and get the support that we need. It's ironic that if we have challenges in our health, we will call the doctor, and if we need our car fixed, we will call the maintenance technician. However, when it comes to our mental health, we can allow it to faster and sit without raising our hand or getting any kind of support. This episode discusses the importance of getting the support that you need through your organization, through your leaders, through a coach, or through accountability partners. It also talks through some of the reasons why vulnerability is a superpower, and that it's not a weakness, and it can be used as a pathway to changing your environment, changing your situation. It can also be used for being creative about solutions that are going to be able to support you.If you are experiencing stress and overwhelm, this episode will encourage you to raise your hand, seek support, work with someone to help you to make your situation better. And if you are someone that is a witness to others, that may be experiencing some challenges, help them to help themselves. Because the event industry needs more awareness and more support if we want to see long lasting change.Thank you so much for listening, until next time, stay on purpose! To learn more about Planners on Purpose, visit our website. In this week's podcast episode, I reflect on the transformative Sober Curious Challenge and my journey of navigating it without relying on weed. Delving into my relationships with friends and substances, I shared a poignant experience from the past where a close friend, a bartender, was the only one encouraging me to continue drinking when I chose to quit. That moment signaled the end of that friendship, prompting me to reevaluate my expectations of support from friends in conjunction with my relationship with alcohol. Realizing the need for internal examination and self-support, I discovered how to activate my dopamine levels—the 'feel good hormone'—without relying on substances. I learned that activities like dancing, singing, and movement were powerful tools to elevate dopamine, rather than relying on smoking more weed or consuming alcohol. Exploring this further, I highlighted how alcohol may activate dopamine, but its effects necessitate increased consumption, dampening the natural release over time. I'm passionate about sharing insights, tools, and resources to help others activate their dopamine positively—through nutrition, quality sleep, and physical activity. My aim is to support your journey and offer guidance on embracing healthy, uplifting habits. Reach out—I'm here to share and assist in your path to a fulfilling, substance-free life. Let's explore the world of activating dopamine through positivity together!

6+ months wait is unacceptable. The issue is that by the very nature of having a chronic illness, your body and your life is unpredictable. Even if your appointment is a follow up or continuing care with a medical provider, it can be difficult to make sure you make it to these appointments. Throw in the pandemic and the post pandemic challenges and it's even more difficult to make it. Have a cough, don't come to the office. Have a fever, don't come to the office… you get it. So as you're struggling and you really REALLY need to see this specialist, you have even more barriers to entry than many other people. The challenge is that not making it to these appointments can have major consequences on your health and even your long term quality of life, but in our broken health care system you miss this appointment and you may not be able to get back in for 6 months or longer. They have a DUTY to provide care for you. Either your established doctor or your referring doctor. When these delays happen - there are ways to get support until you can be seen. Please don't forget to click that subscibe button whereever you listen to the podcast and do me a HUGE favor and leave a review!
