That beautiful pitch you sent months ago? The one that never received a response and left you feeling completely rejected? This silence almost never means what you think it means. After two years of rejection from Selfridges, I was told I "wasn't fashionable enough." Instead of giving up, I created fashion-inspired flower arrangements and turned up at their offices. That persistence became the foundation of one of my most important business relationships. Here's what I've learnt about the difference between thoughtful persistence and being pushy, and why your gentle nature is actually your biggest business strength when building a creative business. Key Moments: [02:30] Why persistence only got 12% of votes despite being what holds people back most [03:58] The story of 20 beautifully crafted cards that received zero responses [05:37] What silence really means (and why our minds jump to rejection) [07:15] My Selfridges story: two years of "no" becoming my most important business relationship [11:44] The truth about creative professionals and why your "too much" probably isn't [12:53] When persistence works and when it becomes problematic [17:31] The golden rule of follow-up: adding value rather than adding to to-do lists [18:25] Five practical strategies for thoughtful persistence [20:34] About the Free Guide and how it can help you. What if the very thing you think is holding back your creative business is actually your biggest competitive advantage? This episode completely reframes how we think about our location, moving from limitation to opportunity. Drawing from real examples including TOAST, Eileen Fisher, and my own journey building a seven-figure floral business from the countryside, we explore how distance from major hubs can become a powerful differentiator. Whether you're based somewhere rural, suburban, or simply outside the traditional industry centres, this episode shows you how to transform your location story into genuine business advantage. You'll discover why authenticity trumps convenience, how constraint breeds creativity, and practical strategies for leveraging your unique geographic perspective. This isn't about putting a positive spin on a problem, it's about recognising the genuine advantages you already possess. Notable Quotes: "Your location can become one of your most powerful differentiators in a crowded market. But this isn't about simply putting a positive spin on a problem. This is about recognising the genuine advantages you already have." "The moment you stop seeing your location as something to overcome and start seeing it as something to leverage, so much can change for you." Last week, I found myself interviewing Cath Kidston in front of 50 creative entrepreneurs, and whilst I could tell you all about her incredible journey, what's more valuable is understanding how I came to be on that stage in the first place. The truth is, you cannot build a creative business in isolation. Behind every successful creative entrepreneur I know is a network of genuine relationships that have amplified their voice and opened doors to opportunities they never could have created alone. This isn't about becoming a networking machine - it's about being intentional with your connections whilst staying true to your values. Key Moments: [03:07] The foundation of business growth - why clear messaging comes before everything else [05:47] Meeting Sophie Perkins and how genuine relationships develop naturally over time [07:22] The internal battle between fear and opportunity - why I nearly said no [08:12] The extensive preparation behind a 30-minute interview and why it matters [09:29] The real return on investment from collaborative opportunities [11:15] Why viral moments aren't the goal - understanding what actually builds your business [12:34] The five-part framework for authentic networking and collaboration [14:40] How comfort zones limit business growth and why fear often signals opportunity [15:59] Practical next steps for building meaningful professional relationships Notable Quotes: "Comfort zones are not where businesses grow. John-Henry Westen shares a moment of personal failure, where he pretended to remember someone's name out of pride, and uses it to confront a deeper spiritual danger: the fear of human respect. This subtle yet powerful temptation keeps many Catholics from speaking the truth, defending the faith, or even praying publicly. He reflects on how vanity, shame, and the desire for approval can silence our witness to Christ, drawing on examples from saints, Scripture, and a pro-life leader who once chose abortion not out of desperation, but to avoid judgment. The call is clear: reject cowardice, embrace humility, and stand firm in faith, no matter the cost.U.S. residents! What I've discovered about creative entrepreneurs who are thriving is fascinating. They're quietly stepping away from doing things like everyone else and building businesses that actually work for them. This isn't just about being different for the sake of it; it's about recognising what you're naturally brilliant at and having the courage to build everything around that foundation. In this episode, I share real examples of creative entrepreneurs who've broken industry "rules" and seen remarkable results. From the textile artist who stopped trying to do everything and focused entirely on commercial installations, to the food photographer who specialised in capturing the story behind family recipes - each found success by asking one simple question: "What am I naturally better at than most people?" This quiet revolution is creating businesses that are more distinctive, more profitable, and infinitely more energising for their owners. When you structure your business around your authentic strengths rather than industry expectations, everything transforms, your confidence, your marketing, your client relationships, and yes, your income. Key Moments: [05:42] The rebellion against "best practices" and why following everyone else's approach might be limiting your potential. [07:01] Why the old rules don't serve creative entrepreneurs and the interior designer who transformed her business by recognising her hidden strength [09:55] The question that changes everything: "What am I naturally better at than most people?" [11:05] Building your business like architecture: structuring everything around your natural advantage [13:21] The energy revolution that happens when you work with your natural current instead of against it [15:20] Permission granted - why you don't need anyone's approval to build your business differently [16:34] The compound effect of individual shifts creating positive change across the creative economy [17:30] Your next move: Your own quiet revolution Notable Quotes: "What feels effortless to you is often extraordinary to others. Your 'common sense' is actually accumulated wisdom and natural intuition that others lack." Running a creative business can feel remarkably isolating. While friends and family are wonderfully supportive, they don't always understand the specific challenges of pricing creative work, the vulnerability of putting your designs into the world, or the constant balance between creativity and commerce. What I've discovered is that when you connect with other creative entrepreneurs who truly get it, something transformative happens. In this episode, I share how creative business community completely changed my approach to entrepreneurship, why business networking for creatives looks different from traditional networking, and how to build supportive professional relationships that accelerate your creative business growth. Key Moments: [02:44] Why running a creative business can feel so isolating, even with supportive friends and family [05:17] The turning point: How connecting with other creative entrepreneurs transformed my confidence and business approach [08:28] My recent peer group that changed everything - how 90% of my current projects came from community conversations [11:40] Why business networking for creatives looks different: balancing artistic integrity with commercial success [14:24] The surprising hesitations about joining creative communities (and why they're worth pushing through) [19:33] How creative community supports each stage of building your business - from overcoming limiting beliefs to confident pricing [21:25] Practical ways to build your own creative business community when you're starting from scratch [22:55] The ripple effect: How supporting each other elevates the entire creative economy Notable Quotes: "The creative entrepreneurs who thrive aren't necessarily the most talented or the most business-savvy - they're often the ones who've built strong communities that support their growth and hold them accountable to their potential." Ok so hear me out here, this topic may sound odd yet this theme came up a few times times in the past week. Once in session with a client and again at Women's group on Wednesday. Women expressing their concern that perhaps certain tendencies indicated that they, themselves, could potentially have narcissistic traits. And yes, Narcissism is an overused & oversaturate term presently yet it DOES exist and it is NOT the same as being overly self concerned due to early life trauma. That's my take and I wanted to share it. On this solo episode I offer my thoughts on why many Women come to be hyper self focused and preoccupied with self preservation as a survival technique resulting from traumatic events. We can come to believe that other's feelings, actions, and moods are due to us because that was the fear we had when our environment as a child was unpredictable & unstable. Or if we overly worry about things working out for us, it's because we've been hurt in the past, not because we're selfish. This and more is discussed and of course an oracle card pull. Nature Whispers Oracle Cards; https://blueangelonline.com/shop/card-decks/oracle-cards/natures-whispers/* Women Waken Wednesdays will be held weekly on Wednesdays at 6pm PST starting in February! This is a virtual Women's group I'm holding for my beautiful listeners. I would love for you to join! Hey! I'm back! After a bit of a holiday-start-of-the-new-year-craziness break, The Food Freedom Life Podcast is back with a topic I talk about with my clients ALL the time- the fear of judgement. When it comes to your body image, weight gain, or other insecurities you have, it can be easy to get stuck in your head about what other people are going to think about you. Will they notice I've gained weight? Will they think I've let myself go? Are they going to think less of me? Our inner gremlin can become really convincing that you are not good enough, unworthy, and a lesser version of yourself because of how your body looks. In this podcast episode, Registered Dietitian Brittany Cory dives into: The fear of judgement about your bodyHow fear plays into your confidence and ability to be present Why the validation from weight loss messes with your mind Looking outside of your physical appearance and shifting your mindset I'm here to teach you how to get out of your head, reframe the way you think about your body in social situations, and help you step into an embodied, confident, and freer version of yourself. Time Change, Dogs, and the Fear of Judgement In this episode, I dive deep into three things that mess with my mental and physical well-being: the dreaded time change, my irrational fear of dogs, and the constant anxiety of being judged. Whether it's the toll daylight saving time takes on my body, the fear of being around dogs that I've never been able to shake, or the pressure of always feeling under a microscope, I talk about how these experiences affect my life. It's a raw and honest discussion on how we cope with things that don't fit into societal expectations and how we can start embracing our quirks—judgments and all. If you've ever felt like you don't quite fit in, this one's for you.

I started this podcast in 2022 when I decided to start taking social media seriously. I was so afraid of what everyone thought of me (hence why I called it Trying Not to Care), and I wanted to please everyone. I soon realized that no matter what I do, I cannot please everyone. Today's episode is a reminder to not lose yourself trying to get approval from others. The things someone dislikes you for, someone else might love you for. Be true to yourself because regardless of how amazing you are, you're not going to be everybody's cup of tea.Trying Not to Care is sponsored by Honey - Get an additional 20% off the @honeylove Holiday sale by going to honeylove.com/TNTC! #honeylovepodTrying Not to Care is sponsored by Sakara - for 20% off your first purchase, visit sakara.com and use code TNTC at checkout SOCIALS AND LINKSInstagram: Ashley's Instagram | Trying Not to Care InstagramTikTok: Ashley's TikTok | Trying Not to Care TikTokYoutube: Subscribe hereAmazon Storefront and more: LTXWANT TO ASK ME QUESTIONS? Daily 10 #2! Coming at you from the beach after my brain tried to convince me that the blissful beach goers would judge me for something I do regularly. All good always. Happy new year!
In this week's rerun episode I talk about letting go of other people's opinions. Caring about what others think is a natural part of being human, but I've learned to care a lot less than I used to. It's not about flipping off everyone else's opinions and solely focusing on yourself, I'm suggesting something different. It's about shifting the importance we give to others' opinions and prioritising our own self-perception. Your opinion of yourself matters the most because you're the one living your life, nobody else. So, in this episode I am going to share a handful of things you can start doing to begin letting go of the fear of judgement from others. You will learn about: Why other people's opinions have NOTHING to do with you What the ‘spotlight theory' is and how it can transform your confidence The reason embarrassing situations are “embarrassing” What other people's opinions are a projection of How to show up authentically and prioritise your opinion How you can truly break free from seeking approval and attract the right people into your life - If you are regularly tuning into the podcast and getting value from it, you can rate the show on Spotify or leave a review on Apple Podcasts. But just as you start to feel excited or take a step forward, that fear of judgment creeps in and puts the brakes on.Sound familiar? It's like being stuck on the inner calling merry-go-round. You hear the call, you start to dream big, maybe even make a bold move… and then you stop. Again and again. But here's the thing—your calling isn't going anywhere, no matter how much fear tries to hold you back. It's not going to stop because you're “feeling the human feels.”In this episode, we're digging into what really holds us back from stepping into our calling and why fear of judgment can feel so paralyzing. We'll chat about how to reframe those fears, see judgment for what it truly is (hint: it's not about you), and start sharing your gifts with more confidence and peace in your heart. If you've ever felt stuck between wanting to shine and being afraid of what others might think, this episode is for you. We are officially in the last month of 2024, and naturally, we're all doing a little more self-reflecting. My clients and I are thinking about our goals, our dreams, and what we accomplished this year. But there's always that little voice in the back of our heads that tells us we could've done more if only we weren't holding back. Limiting beliefs, like the fear of judgment, keeps us from reaching our most aspirational goals. Naturally, we care about what other people think. It's human nature. But at some point, we have to break free from the fear of judgment and stop caring about other people's opinions. In this week's episode, we're talking about the fear of judgment and how to get over other people's opinions. Whether you're starting a new business, writing a book, or joining a coaching group, someone will have a negative opinion about it. It's up to you to focus on your goals and see them through anyway. Have you ever experienced that uncomfortable feeling that others are watching you, trying to find something to criticize? We don't want others judging us. It is bad enough listening to the voice inside our own head, whispering that we aren't worthy. How do we overcome the fear of judgment? It begins by realizing that there is only one person whose opinion ultimately matters—the Judge. Everyone is going to live forever in one of two very different places. Where you spend eternity depends on a judgment that Jesus will render. This week we see why his judgment need not trigger any sort of anxiety. Judgment day is something we can joyfully anticipate. Obligation and fear. Those are the two things stopping you from being your true self - and what differentiates those that dabble and those that dominate at social media marketing.99% of people hold themselves back from sharing their real thoughts. Their real self. And who they really are. Why? Because they're afraid to STAND OUT.They believe they have to justify themselves to others. They feel obligations to defend themselves against other peoples opinions. And that keeps them stuck, vanilla, and the same as everyone else.In this episode I share how to free yourself from obligation and fear and show up as 100% you - creating a powerful personal brand and lead the way with social media marketing.-------Thanks for listening! Special Guest Dr. Dain Heer http://www.drdainheer.com/ Haider's free workbook at https://soul-awakening.com/free Today we have an extraordinary guest, Dr. Dain, the visionary creator and founder of Access Consciousness. In over 170 countries, Access Consciousness is dedicated to raising human consciousness and unlocking our true potential. In our conversation, Dr. Dain delves into the concepts of projection, expectation, rejection, and separation, which he identifies as behaviors that limit and suppress our potential. These behaviors, often stemming from learned patterns, lead us to JUDEGEMENT—what Dr. Dain considers the most destructive force in the universe. Recognizing these behaviors is crucial, and Dr. Dain provides tools to transcend them. One powerful tool is the practice of asking questions instead of making judgments. Questions like "What else is possible here?" open up new possibilities and help shift our mindset away from judgment. Another transformative tool is "Who does this belong to?" This question helps individuals discern that many of their thoughts, feelings, and emotions are not their own but picked up from others, people can lighten their emotional burdens by recognizing and returning these energies to their source. During our discussion, I shared a personal story, highlighting how the "Who does this belong to?" tool helped me overcome my fear of judgement and make different choices. Dr. Dain further emphasizes the importance of being kind to oneself and embracing imperfections rather than striving for unattainable perfection. He introduces "interesting point of view" as a technique to neutralize negative reactions and judgments. Throughout our conversation, Dr. Dain underscores the significance of self-awareness and the power of Access Consciousness tools in creating a happier, lighter life. He encourages listeners to explore these tools to transform their lives, stressing that change is possible and that achieving lightness and happiness is within reach. Over the past 25 years, through Access Consciousness, numerous tools have been developed and those that have endured are effective for nearly all users, forming a comprehensive toolbox to overcome fear and elevate human consciousness. Dr. Dain shared a story about a woman seeking relationship tools, leading to the first relationship class 23 years ago. This class provided valuable insights into relationship discord and helped many people improve their relationships. The organic growth of these tools has propelled the company to 176 countries, continuously evolving and creating new tools. We then shifted our focus to relationships, a core aspect of life alongside money. Relationships can bring immense joy or profound pain. Personal experiences, including trauma and suicidal thoughts, illustrate the intense impact of relationships. For example, strained relationships with family members can lead to severe distress. Dr. Dain explains that the need to be right, often driven by fear of being wrong, can be destructive in relationships. Instead of striving to be right, he advocates for cultivating a space of allowance and viewing situations as "interesting points of view." This approach involves recognizing and accepting others' perspectives without needing to prove oneself. Allowance is about understanding and responding without judgment, not passivity. Family dynamics complicate relationships, as early interactions shape our reality and create persistent conflicts. Dr. Dain introduces the concept of "humans and humanoids" to distinguish between those uninterested in personal growth (humans) and those constantly seeking self-improvement (humanoids). This distinction helps understand different behaviors and judgments in relationships. Most personal issues, Dr. Dain notes, are not originally ours but adopted from those around us, especially parents. Recognizing that many of our thoughts and feelings are inherited can be liberating. The "clearing statement" and questioning these inherited structures can facilitate personal healing. By continually questioning and clearing inherited points of view, individuals can move beyond stress and conflict towards a more authentic and peaceful existence. The ultimate goal is to shift from survival mode to thriving, involving a commitment to personal growth and a willingness to receive help from the universe. Our discussion also touched on love, particularly the structures of love learned from parents. Many seek love to fill gaps created by these inherited structures. True love, Dr. Dain asserts, involves valuing oneself and others, creating a space that includes everyone without judgment. It's about receiving contributions from those genuinely willing to support. Building healthier relationships requires moving beyond the need for love as a gap-filling mechanism and approaching relationships from a place of completeness and mutual contribution. Join us in this transformative episode as we explore these profound concepts and tools with Dr. Dain, and discover how you can elevate your consciousness and potential.
