By his own admission, Tommy Wilson shouldn't be wrestling today. Tommy shouldn't be wrestling and he probably shouldn't even be alive. “At the end of 2019, I was admitted to the ER with necrotizing pancreatitis, cirrhosis of my liver, and complete kidney failure. I would end up staying in the hospital for two months, was in a coma for 4 weeks, and I died three times. I needed dialysis daily. I went from weighing 270 pounds to 182 pounds in about a 3-month span.” This story isn't about a statistic. It is about redemption. Tommy Wilson began his career in professional wrestling some 15 years ago when he stepped into the Lion's Den. The official training academy of Ken Shamrock, who was coaching MMA and Professional Wrestling. After his initial training, Tommy would join the Ultimate University, the sister school of UPW. The promotion was responsible for bringing John Cena to the spotlight as well as developing many future WWE Talents. Under the guidance of Tom Howard Wilson would eventually get the opportunity to compete for ZERO-ONE in Japan. He and Tony Stradlin were billed as the UPW Light Heavyweight Tag Team Champions. After his time in UPW, Tommy would begin to compete for David Marquez's NWA Pro and the affiliate of NWA promotions, including the Inoki Dojo, AWS, Mach 1, and SoCal Pro. Tommy would have many reigns as the SoCal Pro Heavyweight Champion and would do battle with NWA Worlds Heavyweight Champion, Adam Pearce. On May 21st, 2022… Tommy Wilson returned to the ring. On this episode of the Sessions, Jay Cal we will speak to Tommy about life, death, and pro-wrestling.

In this episode, Laurie, Wayne, and Doug head over to the Sokol Auditorium where rehersals are taking place for Stephen King's The Shining - A Play. Listen in as we discover the amazing story of how Director Jason Levering is turning his long time dream into reality and how he is doing it all with the blessing of the man himself, Stephen King. It's all a benefit for the Benson Theater and is on a limited run. From their facebook page: “The Shining” will be the Benson Theatre's first major production, and we could not be more excited about what we have in store. What better way to introduce the Benson Theater into the world of performing arts than with a big, bold, innovative new work from and for our community. Helping to advise the production are Tom Elkins, director of the film “The Haunting in Connecticut 2: Ghosts of Georgia”, and Kevin Lawler, Producing Artistic Director of the Great Plains Theatre Conference and co-founder of the Blue Barn Theatre. Lighting design is being developed by Tommy Wilson, Charlie Wagner, and the rest of the team at JSAV. Our set designer is Kit Gough, who has worked in the Omaha theatre community for several years, most recently as the set designer for “Seussical The Musical” at The Rose Theatre. Providing the artwork for our marketing is local artist Jeremy Caniglia, whose beautiful and terrifying work can be seen gracing the covers of books by authors such as William Peter Blatty (40th anniversary edition of “The Exorcist”), Douglas Clegg, Peter Straub, Max L Brooks, Anne Rice, and yes, Stephen King. The play will be directed by Jason Levering, from a script written by Levering and fellow writer Aaron Sailors and approved by Mr. King. Questions can be directed to jason@bensontheatre.org. MISSION OF THE BENSON THEATRE The Benson Theatre is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization that fosters the success of local artists, philanthropists, entrepreneurs, and underserved populations within the historic community of Benson. Our goal is to acquire and restore the historic Benson Theatre at 6054 Maple Street in Omaha to serve as a shared community space for business education and artistic performance. Benson is a flourishing arts and entertainment district, and the timing to restore our historic theater and bring more diverse entertainment and vital business education to our community has never been better. The Theatre's prime location in downtown Benson has the potential to bring thousands of new visitors to the Benson business district for more than 500 events annually.
