This week, Sarah is joined by comedian, actor, and writer Chris Gethard to discuss his multifaceted career and personal evolution. They reflect on his acclaimed one-man show Career Suicide, where he shared his experiences with depression, anxiety, and suicidal thoughts through humor and heartfelt storytelling. Since then, Chris has continued to push creative boundaries with new comedy specials and insightful books on fatherhood and mental health. He talks with Sarah about integrating discussions about mental health into his work and how it has resonated with audiences. They also talk about the generational shift in how we view fatherhood, the pressure on kids to be ready for the future, and parallels between the comedy scene and Sarah's time on The Challenge. American-made guns are pouring into countries all over the globe, even more so after the US made it easier to export guns in 2020. Even as America's mass shootings horrify the world and gun-crime rates rise in many of the importing countries, the US government is playing a key role as the firearm industry's booster and concierge. Bloomberg's Michael Riley, David Kocieniewski and Patpicha Tanakasempipat join this episode to talk about one gunmaker, Sig Sauer. It has benefited the most from the push for more gun exports and has found a large customer base in Thailand. 2022 started with the White House warning that Putin planned to invade Ukraine. Many were skeptical. But in this year's most significant decision survey of more than 100 journalists, the consensus is in: Putin's decision to invade Ukraine was the biggest decision of 2022. Some of the other decisions will surprise you and might end up having more impact in 2023. In this roundup of the biggest stories of the year, we examine them all as we end one year and move on to the next. One Decision is joined in London by The Economist's Anne McElvoy, Semafor's Prashant Rao, and Bloomberg's Maria Tadeo.
“The reward for taking out Bose, Panasonic, and Samsung was getting to play against Amazon, Google and Apple.” That's a common joke at Patrick Spence's Santa Barbara-based audio giant, Sonos; which is chiefly responsible for the rise of the smart speaker. An HBA '98 grad, Spence joined the company in 2012 and took over as CEO, five years later. But Sonos wasn't Spence's first rodeo in the fast-moving world of consumer electronics. For 14 years, Spence was an integral part of RIM/BlackBerry, serving a number of roles before ultimately becoming the Executive Vice President of Sales & Marketing. During that time the company grew from $50 million in revenue to more than $20 billion, and from 150 people to more than 17,000. In this episode, Spence shares lessons from the highs and lows of his career, his philosophy on technology and innovation, Sonos' legal battles with Google, and the different outlooks of entrepreneurs on both sides of the 49th parallel.

Trump adviser Steve Bannon has refused to testify to the congressional January 6 committee about his role in the Capitol insurrection. But he agreed to speak to Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Jennifer Senior – though when confronted he didn't tell her the truth. “He was definitely working the phones all day. And he was lying to me about it,” Senior tells Haaretz Weekly podcast host Allison Kaplan Sommer, discussing her recent profile of Bannon in The Atlantic. Senior also talks about how the U.S. alt-right movement has fanned the flames of antisemitism, and how Bannon dealt with being profiled by a Jewish woman. “He knew early on that I was Jewish and was therefore extremely awkward, almost clumsy, and trying to bring up how much he loved the Jews,” she says. “It was almost like that movie scene where Austin Powers sees a person with a mole and keeps accidentally saying the word ‘mole' out loud. Like he was staring at me and thinking, ‘Jew, Jew.'“ See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Do you ever feel like the goings on of our world is just relentless — like things just wont let up? Kind of like the wind here in Colorado lately. Today, in the midst of the cultural wind, I want to invite you all to listen. We are in the sermons series we have developed from a little book called Surprise the World, and today we explore what it is to practice listening. Take moments this week to stop, listen and hear what God has to say. And as you practice listening to him, you just might find yourself listening all the better to others. May you indeed hear from the Lord this week.
Since the beginning of our story with God, God has demonstrated his deep love for us through his blessing. In turn we become a blessing to others. (Genesis 12:2). BLESS is a new way of thinking about loving our neighbors using five missional practices that help us introduce people to Jesus. Together we will look at the Gospel of Luke to learn how Jesus lived out these missional practices in his everyday life on earth. The BASIC Worship Community is a college and young adult ministry focused on uniting people to join in the work that Jesus is doing to bless a broken world. BASIC meets weekly in Cedar Falls, IA. The 500 Greatest Albums of All Time Boyz II Men, II, 1994 *Rolling stones lists this as 1991, that is incorrect With their innocent romanticism and meticulous vocal arrangements, Boyz II Men became the most commercially successful R&B vocal group of all time. The noise from Washington has been deafening on Wall Street and across the World -- and the FarrCast is here to help you sort through it all. Michael Farr welcomes Jim Iuorio and he tells why he thinks the correction, shallow though it is, might not be done. He shares his targets, and great advice on keeping discipline whether you are a short-term trader, or long-term investor. Dan Mahaffee joins to explain the latest horse trading and what the next step in DC dealmaking will become. Though the heat is off for now, the debt ceiling madness has only been kicked down the road, not solved. Michael's special guest this week is Liz Young of SoFi Investments, and goes into detail on why she expects more modest returns in 2023 -- but reminds us "okay" returns are, in fact, okay. She gives great insights into the notion of transient inflation, and what investors need to look for in transitions to find opportunities, as well as identify threats. The FarrCast comes to you every week with insight into Wall Street, Washington, and The World -- Listen today!

Many of us who have served have had our hearing take a beating. As we grow older, however, the problem continues to get worse. VA patients have a great advantage over those in the civilian world in that the VA has no profit motive and only deals in the best of equipment. Dr. Megan Sullivan was so interesting and shared so much information that we asked her to come back. If you have a hearing problem, please do listen in and start the process of getting help. BTW no matter how old you are if the hearing impairment can be traced back to your service you may be able to file for a VA disability.

Here are 7 common mistakes young people are making nowadays. 1. Living for likes: Every moment is wasted away by trying to capture it perfectly for social media. It’s much better to experience the experience than trying to make it look cool. 2. Enough sleep: I am not saying don’t party but make sure your body gets the sleep it needs. 3. Not saving money: Wasting money to look cool or buy unnecessary things they think they need to get approval from others. The best thing young people can do is develop a saving habit. 4. Being fake: Not being their true self and pretending just so their peers will like them. 5. Fretting over mistakes: We all make mistakes nobody is perfect. Learn and move on. 6. Worrying about looks: Looks matter yes but what matters more is how people feel around you. Focus on that. 7. Day-dreaming: Thinking once they do something, once they travel to this new place everything will be fixed.
Dianna caught up with Karen Novak of the Karen Single Band to talk about the amazing experiences with musical theatre company (Ptarmigan Ptheatrics) and pulling in one of the lead roles in Yellowknife's (Canada) version of broadway musical, Mama Mia, which proved a musical hit having sold out before opening night. Being inspired by working with her theater group, Karen took another leap of faith and submitted an application to put her first album Wide Open, along two more of a trilogy to be written, then recorded and put on stage as a theatrical rock production. Her proposal even requested that she tour Europe with this concept idea and production. Karen has been accepted into the Northern Arts and Cultural Centre (NACC) mentorship program and is now getting the help needed to make a forever dream of hers a reality. Did you miss Dianna and Karen's conversation during Radio Memphis Around the World? Listen now.

Youth on Subjects of the World – Listen in on our panel of amazing young people as they discuss current world events and important issues. They will choose one broad topic for each show, and talk about the facts, as well as, of course, their own opinions. The panel for our eleventh episode includes Addy Sharkey, Gavin Sharkey, Kaeden Prestay, Lachlan Sabourin, and Tilian Prestay. The topic that they have chosen to discuss is LGBTQ+ Today. If you are able to tune in LIVE, the Youth can also answer your questions LIVE. Addy Sharkey Hi, I’m Addy. I’m 13, I am unschooled and I live in Brooklyn. Gavin Sharkey This is Gavin Sharkey. He is 15, lives in Brooklyn, and aspires to be a photographer. He has spent the past two years teaching himself photoshop and photography, and doesn’t intend to stop any time soon. Kaeden Prestay Kaeden Prestay is a 15 year old, always unschooled teen from Canada. Their interests include voice, guitar, art, horseback riding, cosplay, qigong, reiki and writing. Did we mention books?! Kaeden is passionate about equal rights for everyone, regardless of their age, learning style or gender identity. Kaeden identifies as gender fluid, preferring they/them pronouns and is very open about discussing this and other LGBTQ issues. Lachlan Sabourin I am a 14 year old World Schooler. I’m an artist and an actor. I’m a transgender boy and have been happily out for a while now. I have a few siblings and they are my inspiration and my daily challenge. And I enjoy long walks on the beach… Tilian Prestay (Picture and bio coming soon…) Anne Boie, Producer Anne Boie is an entrepreneur and partner in work, family and play to her husband, David Leahy. She is a dedicated unschooling mother of the four Leahy children, ages 4- 16. The Leahy family has lived in Suburban Dallas, Rural Grayson County, Texas, and several years ago after the birth of their fourth child, they decided to pursue their dream of a more exciting urban location, as close to New York City as they could manage financially. After researching several options with the help of their children, they chose Hackettstown, New Jersey, located between New York City and Philadelphia, and moved their warehouse of more than a million Lego bricks, two dogs, three cats, four children, one Nana (David’s mom) and all their belongings halfway across the country. They have been happily living there for almost 3 years now, and are always eager to meet and talk to both experienced and new unschoolers. Anne was very excited to take on the role of co-producer of the For the Love of Learning show, as a means of exploring ideas about education from people all over the world, and to help create a better world by showing parents that there is another way, they don’t have to blindly follow the crowd when it comes to education and raising happy children. She is even more excited to take on this new role as lead producer for Youth on Subjects of the World. This amazing group of young people will give you hope for the future of our world. *SoundCloud podcast is sponsored by the Peer Unschooling Network. https://peerunschooling.net
"It's weird to do something that you didn't really plan on doing," Todd Barry said. He's a comedian and actor. But he wanted to be a musician. "I didn't go on stage with the conscious goal of pursuing comedy. In my mind, I still wanted to be in a band," he said. "And at some point, I think it was like 8 months in where, I was like, 'I guess I guess I'm doing this.'" I wanted to know what kept him going... It was simple. "Weirdly, I don't think I ever said 'I'm thinking about quitting...' which I guess is pretty telling." Maybe that's how you find your calling... By not quitting what you don't hate, you create skill.
