Ever felt yourself shackled by the fear of the unknown? Are you feeling the calling to make a big life change, but you're afraid of the consequences, or feel stymied by how your decision might impact others? In this Thursday Thread episode, I call back to the Tuesday conversation with Kristin Lee Geiger, who dropped a NYC fashion design job most people in the industry would DROOL over, to become a yoga teacher. I share about the power of the 2 am Truth: That moment where you have a stomach-punching realization something is not right with my life.I talk about the warning signs that you aren't following the messages coming from your intuition. One of the big ones is GUILT. From the seemingly inconsequential choices at the supermarket to the duties we perform out of sheer obligation, I reveal the subtle ways in which our lives become tethered by the guilt of quitting—and how confronting it can pave the way to personal growth and joy.Harnessing personal power and choice is a mantra I encourage you to adopt as you recognize the impact your decisions hold over your life. It's important to recognize how deeply ingrained these tethers are. From genetic coding being revealed by epigenetics, the influence of inherited patterns, the beliefs we hold, the patterning in our nervous system – these tethers hold down the untapped potential within us all.Join me in challenging norms and daring to reshape your own destiny with this big question:What would I do if it was completely up to me?As always, I end this episode with a breathwork exercise to support you in breaking down the walls of limitation. There are smarter ways to become an entrepreneur, especially if you have a family. Odds are you're currently working 40-hour weeks. To transition, you need to start doing what you want to do as a side-hustle. Steps to take: Decide what side-hustle to try. You may hate the first thing you try, or it might fail. That's ok! You will gain experience.Be willing to put in 20 hours of work per week on your side-hustle. This means you'll be working a total of 60 hours per week.Integrate yourself fully into the new business you're learning. Be patient. Ryan needed 3 years to be able to quit his first job and couch flipping to be able to focus on house flipping completely.Consider your situation and be sure you can keep paying the bills once you've quit your 9-5.Decide how much success you need in order to quit your job. You need to have sustained income from your side hustle for at least a few months to make a good judgment here. Have some savings built up before you transition completely. How to resign from a job professionally so that you keep your manager onside, get a good reference and keep open future job opportunities through your manager and colleagues is what I cover. When you have decided to resign from a job, you want to leave as quickly as possible and start your new role. Running out the door is even more appealing when you don't get on with your manager or some of your team. As hard as it can be, leaving well is much more important than leaving quickly. The better and quicker you hand over your work, then the quicker you leave in practice. When thinking about how to resign from a job, think about how you can help your manager easily reassign the work you do. This is very much in your interests. When planning how to quit your job professionally, make sure you use one of the 5 generally accepted reasons for resigning from a job. This will avoid anger or resentment towards you which will make your life easier now and going forward. The next step in how to resign is to check your contract to make sure you understand the notice period you need to give and anything else required of you. Next in how to resign from a job gracefully, start preparing for how you are going to leave. Go through the projects you are working on and plan out what needs to be handed over and to who. Next when preparing how to resign from a job, write your resignation letter. I have included an example letter which should be short, concise, and positive. How to resign from a job in person – the best way to resign – requires you to book in a meeting in private with your manager. Don't tell others before speaking to your manager. Help your manager as much as possible so they have confidence that you leaving won't be a problem. Maintain your work standards and output during your notice period. Doing this will make it a lot more likely you will be released early. And finally, stay in touch with work colleagues and your manager. The majority of roles are not advertised and networking is a good way to access these hidden job opportunities.
I quit my job at Santander working in model risk management. It was 6 fun years where I learned a lot however due to some corporate restructuring and a better opportunity where I would have more responsibility, I am moving on.In this episode I talk about interviewing at other firms as well as how to view different offers. How much money you are being paid is usually a main driver but don't forget to think about responsibilities. Building a resume with new skills can help you later down the road.☕ Show Your Support and Buy Me a Coffee ☕https://ko-fi.com/fancyquantSupport the show (https://ko-fi.com/fancyquant)
