The jury has been instructed to disregard everything the former Robb Elementary teacher said — including her account of seeing the gunman on the south side of campus and her testimony about children arming themselves with safety scissors.Hale returned to the stand Thursday for cross-examination. Defense attorney Jason Goss exposed inconsistencies between her courtroom testimony and what she told a Texas Ranger four days after the massacre. Hale admitted it was "kind of implied" she saw the shooter based on dust clouds — not the specific sighting she described Tuesday."There's no doubt that this was crucial to the defense strategy," Judge Harle said before striking the testimony.Three days into the only criminal trial from the Uvalde massacre, the prosecution has been called "negligent," lost a key witness, and watched their own DA testify about failures in witness prep. Gonzales faces 29 counts of child endangerment. Judge Sid Harle denied the defense's mistrial motion Wednesday in the Adrian Gonzales trial, but the battle over teacher Stephanie Hale's testimony isn't over. Harle called the prosecution's failure to disclose information "negligent" and will decide Thursday whether to strike Hale's entire testimony from the record.Hale testified Tuesday that she saw "a person in all black and a long weapon" on the south side of the Robb Elementary campus — the same area where Gonzales was positioned. The defense says that information was never disclosed and called the trial "a trial by ambush." On Tuesday, the Uvalde County DA was even sworn in to testify about what she knew and when she knew it. Her answer: she was "in and out" of witness interviews.The families aren't hiding their frustration. Jesse Rizo, uncle of victim Jackie Cazares, said watching the prosecution stumble is "so disappointing." His brother Manuel called the prosecution team "incompetent."Trial resumes Thursday. On the afternoon of August 23, 2003, Erie, Pennsylvania pizza delivery driver Brian Wells walked into the local branch of the PNC Bank and handed the teller a note warning that he had a bomb and they had fifteen minutes to hand over $250,000 or it would detonate. Unable to access the vault, the teller gave Wells all the cash on hand and he left as the employees triggered the emergency protocol.Fifteen minutes later, Wells was spotted by police and placed under arrest. However, when they went to put handcuffs on the suspects, the officers discovered that Wells did indeed have an explosive device on him—it was strapped to his neck and rigged to explode. In this Sunday's message, we name the barriers that make evangelism feel uncomfortable (past wounds, fear, and poor formation) and gently reframe witness as a core part of our identity in Christ. We're invited today to face our resistance, reclaim the privilege of being ambassadors of reconciliation, and pray courageously into what holds us back.

I seem to be a natural optimist. And as the former host of The Ziglar Show podcast, greatly appreciate Zig Ziglar's famous quote, “Positive thinking won't let you do anything, but it will let you do everything better than negative thinking will.” That said, I now realize I spent a lot of my life as a father, husband, and friend, not always connecting with people when they were hurting or struggling. Today I strive to just be with people. Witness them. And be curious. When they are struggling, I don't try to lift them up with positivity, or pull them further down by fanning the flames of their struggle. Someone who helped me with this is Whitney Goodman. Whitney is a Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist who has taken on our concept of positivity and has an instagram following of well over half a million followers who are finding great help from her guidance and encouragement that life is well worth living, but treating it as a continual self-improvement project and bypassing our true feelings doesn't leave room for a full, quality life. I understand now, that jumping from a negative experience right to positivity can rob us from the growth, learning, and peace we find in between. Whitney took her years of work as a therapist studying cultural positivity and wrote the book, “TOXIC POSITIVITY: KEEPING IT REAL IN A WORLD OBSESSED WITH BEING HAPPY.” The book is a dive into how we've distorted the concept of positivity, and how we can better handle the hard things in life and ultimately acknowledge them, but not be overwhelmed and controlled by them. It's Witness Wednesday! On today's episode, Todd Friel engages everyday people on the street in downtown Minneapolis. Touching on issues like morality, sin, and the afterlife, Todd challenges each of the people he meets to examine their soul in light of the God that created them.
