//The Wire//2200Z May 2, 2025////ROUTINE////BLUF: UNITED STATES TO REDUCE DIPLOMATIC EFFORTS REGARDING UKRAINE PEACE TALKS. GERMANY DESIGNATES AFD PARTY AS AN EXTREMIST ORG.// -----BEGIN TEARLINE----- -International Events-Germany: Yesterday Germany's main domestic spying agency publicly classified the entire Alternative für Deutschland (AfD) party as a far-right extremist organization. This prompted the United States to issue statements of condemnation, as German authorities crack down on growing dissent via the open use of domestic intelligence agencies.Germany: This afternoon a vehicle ramming incident was reported in Stuttgart after a vehicle collided with a group of people waiting at a bus stop. A total of 11x people were wounded and at least one victim has succumbed to their wounds. The driver of the vehicle was arrested at the scene.AC: It's not immediately clear as to if this was a legitimate and deliberate terror attack, or if it was more of a tragic motor vehicle accident. Local authorities claim that the incident was merely a traffic accident, however German police have been known to openly lie about terrorist attacks being terror attacks, so this is an unreliable source for determining causation. In any case, the driver being arrested for questioning after the incident could indicate that it was a more deliberate attack. -HomeFront-Washington D.C. - This morning the White House announced that the USA will take a reduced role in the continuation of peace talks between Russia and Ukraine. Spokeswoman Tammy Bruce stated that “It is now between the two parties, and now — now is the time that they need to present and develop concrete ideas about how this conflict is going to end. It's going to be up to them".AC: The United States will probably not walk away from this war as much as one might be inclined to think based on this statement. This sentiment is probably intended to force both Russia and Ukraine back to the table and to get serious about a peace deal.-----END TEARLINE-----Analyst Comments: The classification of the AfD party in Germany as an extremist group is completely unsurprising, especially as the latest polling data suggests the AfD might actually be the largest support base in the country. Interestingly enough, the agency that issued this label is the Bundesamt für Verfassungsschutz (BfD), or Germany's main domestic intelligence service. While most other nations frame their intelligence services as being foreign in nature (at least on paper), Germany does indeed have a modern day domestic equivalent to the STASI, the infamous intelligence service of the Cold War. What's perhaps most interesting is that the AfD party isn't really a right-wing or conservative party...even by European standards. It's generally described as a centrist party, at most. Even by American standards, most of the AfD's political platform is in alignment with the American Democratic party.Germany using their domestic spying agencies to crack down on this group and open up a wealth of tools to not just spy on, but actually kinetically target members of this party, is a very interesting development that points out just how far to the political left the federal institutions are in Germany.Analyst: S2A1Research: https://publish.obsidian.md/s2underground//END REPORT//

Around the world, democracies are on the back foot. For years, experts, commentators, politicians, and other practitioners and observers have discussed a global democratic recession. Several countries are of interest as case studies in decline, but the United States stands out. As an established democracy and global hegemon, the retreat of American democracy – always flawed, but increasingly so of late – threatens the world, and particularly its continental neighbours, including Canada. While Canada cannot be fully independent in a globalized world, particularly as we share a border with the United States, we must consider ways of preserving, indeed expanding, our democracy. But that might be difficult if our largest trading and security partner falls apart. With that concern in mind, we ask: Can Canada protect itself from American democratic decline? On this episode of Open to Debate, David Moscrop talks with Rob Goodman, assistant professor of politics and public administration at Toronto Metropolitan University and author of the new book Not Here: Why American Democracy is Eroding and How Canada Can Protect Itself.

Former federal prosecutor Will Scharf says one of the most disappointing things has been the failure of a lot of Republicans to wake up and see what trying times we're really in as a country. Whether it's the weaponization of law enforcement and the corruption of the Biden family, it's really eye opening. Scharf says Crossfire Hurricane and the weaponization of law enforcement and intelligence agencies against the Trump campaign in 2016 was a mortal sin and the fact that heads didn't roll and no one's been held accountable for wiretapping a Presidential campaign is crazy. Scharf says we have to remember Obama is the guy who said he didn't need Congress. He didn't need to go through our Constitutional process of checks and balances to enact his agenda because he had a “phone and a pen.” Obama now is a guy talking about the decline of American Democratic institutions, the decline of our Constitution. He's at the heart of so much of what we've seen, the unconstitutional actions of our federal government, the expansion of executive authority that's completely unchecked.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

"I have longer to please the dead than please the living here." (Sophocles, Antigone). With these chilling words, Antigone sets in motion a Theologico-Political Crisis that will devour the Royal Family of Thebes and shatter the city. The Theologico-Political crisis that constitutes the drama of Sophocles' famous tragedy is a defining condition of Western Civilization, the emergence of Platonic and Metaphysical political philosophy, and the driving force behind the emergence of Modern political philosophy and Liberal Political Philosophy. Indeed, the Theologico-Political crisis is driving force behind the creation of American Liberal Democracy. Now it is back. The recent law banning abortions in Texas, and the silence of the Supreme Court, has initiated a new Theologico-Political crisis that threatens to devour what is left of the American Democratic political experiment. A straight line runs from ancient Thebes to contemporary Texas.
Israeli Journalist Reveals Abuse - Former Haaretz Reporter, Asaf Ronel, describes the systemic abuse of Palestinians he witnessed last May during weeks of violence. For decades, Israeli politicians have systematically violated the human rights of the Palestinians with virtually no repercussions. When confronted about these violations by the community of nations, Israel plays the holocaust card to try and shame its critics into silence; and it often works. Former Israeli minister, Shulamit Aloni, admitted this tactic in a 2002 interview for Democracy Now. Given the scale of Israel's recent assault on Gaza, including the bombing of a residential building that also held the offices of Al-Jazeera and the Associated Press, that hand may finally have been over-played. Twenty-five years ago, Noam Chomsky wrote that Israel acts with impunity given the unwavering support provided by the US government. Eleven years ago, Hitch pondered why American politicians 'acquiesce so wretchedly . . . at the hands of a virtual client state. It seems things have finally gone too far for some Americans. Recently the New York Times writes that many American Democratic senators are wary of continuing to give Israel a pass for its heavy-handed claims of self-defence. The article quotes the president of an Israeli lobby group, J Street, stating that Americans turning a blind eye 'essentially amounts to international immunity to Israel.' What is baffling, to this writer anyway, is that after many centuries of anti-Semitism and maltreatment of Jews in various lands, Israeli politicians currently in charge apparently learned absolutely nothing. Indeed, the Twitter feeds of two Jewish Washington Post correspondents are constantly updated with the latest Israeli abuses and the disgust of these reporters at what is being done to the Palestinians. Australia's efforts to reduce carbon dioxide will have virtually no effect on global temperatures but climate change policies continue at the cost of billions. Politicians of all stripes and industry leaders chant of the quest for zero net emissions regardless of its meaning or cost. Millionaires and billionaires endorse the policies of climate change so how could they be wrong? Of course, many are making 'squillions'– multinational companies, global equity funds and renewable energy investors who know that 'the money is in the bag' or the windmills, and solar panels. China is also big winner in the production of solar panels and wind turbines. Meanwhile their emissions continue to rise and its commitment to the coal industry increases in contrast to other countries. It now possesses roughly half of the world's coal power capacity as well as coal-fired power plants in development. A steadfast critic of climate change policies, Senator Roberts joins us to talk about the findings of a report he commissioned Dr Alan Moran to prepare. The report spells out the great hidden cost of climate policies and renewables on Australian households and jobs. On the issue of China, it's bashing Australia again in language that sounds uncannily like that being used by American Democratic leaders. In an extraordinary attack recently, China's state-sanctioned media has accused Australia, Canada, Britain and the US of being members of an “axis of white ¬ supremacy” in an attack on the Five Eyes intelligence network. We're joined by Dr John Coyne head of the North and Australia's Security program at the Australian Strategic Policy Institute, to discuss some of the flaws in China's strategic thinking and where that's leading China. John sees opportunities in countering CCP's increasingly divisive international policies. And in the US, the Democrat's $1.9 trillion Stimulus package has recently passed the House. Blake Christian, Partner of Holthouse Carlin & Van Trigt joins us for an update on the bill's passage and what the final package is likely to contain. Asia Pacific Today. March 5, 2021
Darrell Castle asks what does the election really mean for our future in America. Transcription / Notes ELECTION NIGHT—WHAT HAPPENED Hello this is Darrell Castle with Today's Castle Report. Today is Friday the 6th day of November in the year 2020 and to tell you the truth I don't feel much like talking today, but I'll try. I won't lie to you by telling you that the Castle family is doing fine today because some of us are suffering. I'm sure the family daughter is just fine, and my dear wife Joan just rolls with the punches and tries to keep me levelheaded, but I have been suffering since Tuesday night. There is no clear winner as of this recording, and there might not be for weeks. Will there be a new court ordered election or just endless counting and fraud allegations? One thing seems clear and that is that the world has seen the American Democratic process with all the glory and grandeur stripped away and only the chaos and division remaining. There are numerous allegations of cheating for example after the count in Michigan was finished 138,389 new ballots were located and guess what 138,389 of them were for Biden. Nothing to see here folks just move along. The three close races that could determine the election, Wisconsin, Michigan, and Pennsylvania, with Trump leading decided to suspend the count until morning. When it resumed all the new Biden votes came rolling in. So, they cheated, but that's to be expected because as I keep saying this is war and the only thing that matters is who wins. In the end you can't expect your enemy to play fair, and you should be prepared in case he doesn't. The ministry of propaganda is right there to explain it all for us. There aren't many things I know for certain right now, but it seems certain that if Biden wins, the country will be racing toward financial catastrophe and he will step on the accelerator. Of course, the Republican would have seen no alternative but to do the same thing. Big Tech censorship will continue and even increase under Biden as will illegal immigration. With tens of millions of new Democrat voters pouring over the borders allied with big tech censorship and media propaganda it will be impossible or next to it to ever succeed again. I have searched for a silver lining in this dark storm cloud and I may have found a small one in the House and Senate. Republicans retained control of the Senate losing only one seat. Mitch McConnell will remain as majority leader and if he retains the guts he learned from Donald Trump maybe that will be enough. In the House the Republicans did not lose a single seat and gained five new ones. What we have then, if Biden does win, is a weakened Joe Biden with no clear mandate and no majority in the legislature. So apparently the extreme left will not be able to control the machinery of government. It probably means no court packing, no new taxes the Republicans do not want. Biden has said he will not take Senators from the Senate to the cabinet, but Elizabeth Warren has expressed an interest in becoming Secretary of the Treasury. If she cannot raise taxes, then I expect her to go hard after those of us who currently pay taxes. I'm thinking about Robespierre right now. Well, be that as it may, as you can tell I am very depressed by the possibility that a demented, corrupt, Socialist might have just been elected to the position of head of state and commander in chief of the United States armed forces, and that may become our permanent status. I have wondered for the last 50 years or so what it was all for, all about, and now I guess I understand a little better. I wonder now why all those young people without much experience in this life and in this world are so interested in old Communists. Since I am at a further loss for words, I will let Dr. Paul Craig Roberts explain to you what this election process means: “The Digital Revolution is being used to destroy us. The Nazism of Bill Gates is so extreme as to make Hitler look like ...

I'm not confident it does. Here are the words of Attorney General Bill Barr addressing what happened to the 2016 Trump Campaign and the President, his friends, and family, at the hands of sever abuses of power by government political appointees, intelligence, and law enforcement officials at the highest levels: “What happened to the president in the 2016 election, and throughout the first two years of his administration, was . . . a grave injustice and it was unprecedented in American history.

A judge in rural Oregon on Monday tossed out statewide coronavirus restrictions imposed by Democratic Gov. Kate Brown, saying she didn't seek the Legislature's approval to extend the stay-at-home orders beyond a 28-day limit. Several Oregon opposers of the “Stay At Home Decree” from Governor Kate Brown's executive actions have decried personal infringements on religious freedoms as well as their ability to earn a living. Economists have forecasted more than a 2 billion dollar revenue loss due to COVID19 in Oregon. The state unemployment rate has jumped to a record 14.2%. Oregon House Rep. 37 District Rachel Prusak joins us to discuss these issues and how a NURSE is qualified to lead in the political arena. We'll also discuss the ‘Death With Dignity Act' which allows terminally ill Oregonians to end their life through the voluntary self administration of lethal medications, expressly prescribed by a physician for that purpose. Rachel Prusak is an American Democratic politician and nurse practitioner who was elected to the Oregon House of Representatives in 2018. She represents the 37th district, which includes West Linn, Durham, Rivergrove, Tualatin, and Stafford. Prusak graduated from Northeastern University with a BA in nursing and then earned a Masters in nursing from Frontier Nursing University. Aisha K. Staggers had her first major publication, an album review, in The New Haven Register while just a sophomore in high school. Another series of reviews published in The Hartford Courant followed. By the time she reached college, Aisha was writing for the literary magazine and interning at a local radio station, ABC-affiliate as a writer in the news department and in the A&R department of an independent record company. An autopsy found that financier Jeffrey Epstein suffered multiple breaks in his neck bones, according to two people familiar with the findings, deepening the mystery about the circumstances around his death. Among the bones broken in Epstein's neck was the hyoid bone, which in men is near the Adam's apple. Such breaks can occur in those who hang themselves, particularly if they are older, according to forensics experts and studies on the subject. But they are more common in victims of homicide by strangulation, the experts said. Oh, really now? So, those who try to portray people such as myself as conspiracy theorists for saying this story does not make sense should reassess their arbitrary dismissals. As I continue to say, there's a lot in this story that does not make sense.Gibraltar's government Thursday released an Iranian supertanker detained on suspicion of violating European Union sanctions on oil exports to Syria, authorities said, in a move likely to soothe tensions with Iran even as it drew opposition from the Trump administration. Are there short-term and long-term implications here? Israel on Thursday barred two American Democratic congresswomen, Ilhan Ohmar and Rashida Tlaib, who had planned to visit the Israeli-occupied West Bank, hours after US President Donald Trump urged the country to block them. Does this validate the criticism levied against the Zionist government of Israel?Planned Parenthood warned Wednesday that, without intervention from a federal court, it will be forced out of the Title X Family Planning Program next week because of the Trump administration's ban on health clinics receiving federal tax dollars if they provide or refer patients for abortions. What does this mean in the real context of women's health care? GUESTS: David Rosen — Author of "Sex, Sin & Subversion: The Transformation of 1950s New York's Forbidden into America's New Normal." Barry reviews the view of Muslims and their leadership in America on the superiority of Sharia over American democratic principles.
Welcome to the radio magazine that brings you news, commentary and analysis from a Black Left perspective. I’m Glen Ford, along with my co-host Nellie Bailey. Coming up: The Poor People’s Campaign organizes demonstrations in cities around the country; community activists try to counter massive police sweeps in New York City; and, the Trump administration tells the United Nations that poverty in the U.S. is not the UN’s business. The world was surprised, and most people were pleased, with the exception of American Democratic politicians, when Donald Trump and North Korea’s Kim Jong-Un agreed to move towards lessening tension on the Korean peninsula. But two fierce war hawks, White House national security advisor John Bolton, and Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, are still wild cards in the game – as is President Trump, himself. We spoke with Dr. Gerald Horne, the prolific author and political analyst who teaches history and African American Studies at the University of Houston. The Poor People’s Campaign staged a mass rally in Washington, DC, and companion demonstrations were held in other cities around the country, this weekend. The campaign is intended to reignite the movement for social and economic justice that Dr. Martin Luther King was trying to forge when he was assassinated, 50 years ago. Rev. Graylon Hagler, the senior pastor at the Plymouth United Church of Christ, in Washington, is active in the Poor People’s campaign. The New York City Council recently held hearings on policing in the nation’s largest city. Black and brown activists attempted to get the Council to curb the NYPD’s massive raids and mass arrests in public housing projects. The police maintain a list containing the names of 42 thousand alleged gang members. That list has grown by 70 percent since Mayor Bill de Blasio took office. One of those that spoke before the City Council was Sadiki “Brother Shep” Olugbala, of the Stop The Raids Coalition. He says the police trotted out their high-ranking Black cops to put the best face on their mass arrest policies. The United States last week withdrew from the United Nation’s Council on Human Rights. The U.S. pull-out was largely in solidarity with its ally, Israel, but Washington was also embarrassed by a report to the Council on entrenched poverty in the United States. U.S. Ambassador Nikki Haley said the UN should stick to problems in countries like Rwanda and Burundi. At Sputnik Radio, hosts Brian Becker and John Kariakou discussed the UN Report on Poverty in the U.S. with Ajamu Baraka, of the Black Alliance for Peace, and Aislin Pulley, an organizer with Black Lives Matter, Chicago. Ajamu Baraka said…
Jonathan Freedland explores the parallels between recent alleged Russian state interference in the American and other foreign elections, and covert British activities of the British Security Coordination (BSC), a secret arm of MI6 founded in May 1940. The motivations in each case are very different of course but some of the methods used then and now are very similar and offer an interesting parallel. Based in New York, BSC was initially simply the MI6 regional station in North America, it's mission - to gather intelligence and to help get American aid in the form of munitions. But the greatest obstacle to getting American aid is American isolationism. America at this point is almost in a civil war of ideas between those who want to go to war; and those who do not - the isolationists. The maverick head of BSC, a Canadian named William Stephenson, soon realises they have to win the civil war of ideas before anything can happen. and takes matters into his own hands. By the spring of 1941- after the effects of Dunkirk and the Battle of Britain - Prime Minister Winston Churchill and the Foreign Office, wary of using propaganda as they know the Americans are watching out for it, come to accept that without America, Britain would undoubtedly lose the war. On the panel with Jonathan are historian Henry Hemming, the novelist William Boyd, Russian foreign policy expert Dr Alex Pravda at Oxford University; Dr Leslie Vinjamuri, associate fellow with the US Programme at Chatham House, and Sir Mark Lyall Grant, the former national security adviser to the Prime Minister. Reader: Tobias Menzies. Producer: Mohini Patel.

David Brooks, New York Times editorialist, has written an op-ed piece entitled "The Republican's Incompetence Caucus" while Dostoevsky has written one of our greatest novels, "The Brothers Karamazov" which contains within it a story entitled "The Grand Inquisitor." We will discuss Brooks' important piece, which finally critiques the Republican parties descent from an important part of the American Democratic governance to a radical anti-democratic mob which is unable to govern and is hostile to the very idea of democratic rule. "The Grand Inquisitor" helps us understand why democracy is so fragile and why human beings are so willing to give up their freedoms for miracles, mysteries and authority! The Grand Inquisitor discusses freedom, Jesus Christ, his temptations by Satan, and why human beings seek to avoid the pain of true freedom. Our story will end with a discussion of what each of us must do to preserve our precious democratic heritage.
