Chris Sheehan is the 2026 ABCA/Soldier Sports High School Div. III Assistant Coach of the Year and a longtime member of the Bishop Hendricken High School baseball program in Rhode Island. In 2026 the Hawks won their third straight State Championship and 25th overall for the program. A Warwick native and Bishop Hendricken graduate, Sheehan was a standout pitcher for the Hawks before continuing his playing career at the University of Rhode Island. Unfortunately, a shoulder injury brought his playing days to an early end—but that setback ultimately helped shape the path he would take as a coach and educator. A Kinesiology major at URI and a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist, Sheehan has developed a player-development philosophy that goes beyond simply throwing more strikes or adding velocity. Sheehan focuses on helping pitchers understand how to prepare their bodies for optimal performance, durability, and the demands of a baseball season. Sheehan has spent the last decade coaching varsity baseball while also taking on significant leadership roles within Bishop Hendricken as Dean of Strategic Leadership and Grade 8, Athletic Director and now Assistant Principal. Under her leadership, Niles Middle School reduced suspensions by 32% while attendance and engagement went up. She did not relax a single standard to get there. In this episode of Principles of Change, presented by Raptor Technologies, host Dr. Amy Grosso is joined by Dr. Emily Dunker, Assistant Principal at Eden Hall Upper Elementary School, to explore an often-overlooked part of school safety: preparing substitute teachers for emergencies. Drawing on her own experience as a substitute teacher and her doctoral research on substitute emergency preparedness, Dr. Dunker shares the unique challenges substitutes face when entering unfamiliar buildings, navigating different procedures, and responding to emergencies with limited onboarding and preparation. Together, they discuss how intentional training, consistent communication, practical scenarios, and a strong sense of belonging can help substitutes feel informed, supported, and prepared to respond when it matters most.KEY POINTS:1. Intentional emergency preparation helps substitute teachers navigate unfamiliar buildings, procedures, and responsibilities and respond more confidently during a crisis.2. Building confidence and a sense of belonging helps substitutes know where to turn for support and strengthens their ability to respond appropriately during an emergency.3. Almost 300 primary schools across Ireland have been identified as potentially suitable for moving from Catholic to multi-denominational patronage, based on the preferences expressed by parents and guardians.  Schools have until October 31st to decide whether they want to be part of the first group to explore a change.
