Record numbers of schools have had to seek emergency financial assistance from the Department of Education this year, as they struggle to meet dramatically increased running costs with inadequate funding. That is according to the Catholic Primary School Management Association (CPSMA). The management body says an urgent increase in financial support for primary schools from the State is needed so that they can meet basic running costs. To discuss this further, Alan Morrissey was joined by the Principal of St Connaire's Primary School in Shannon, Peter Walsh and Assistant Principal of CBS Primary School in Ennis,Colm Davoren. Throughout Dr. Turney's work, she has successfully engaged 1000s of peopleands solicited help and guidance from many stakeholders of diverse backgrounds. While this has not been an easy task, especially when oftentimes she did not know the stakeholders prior to beginning the work, she made it seamless by building quick relationships through engaging activities, tasks, and social, and professional connections. In her “free time”, Dr. Turney enjoys spending time with her husband, Larry, and 4 kids-Kamille, Carson, Lailah, and Lennox. She spends many days and weekends chasing their many activities and sports. Kristilynn is also an active member of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc. and Quinn Chapel AME Church. She has been in the field of ESL/bilingual education for over thirty years, as a practitioner and a researcher. Her research focuses on preparing teachers to work with bilingual learners in K-12 schools, and integrated approaches to the schooling of bilingual learners, including two-way bilingual education. Her book, “Foundations of Multilingualism in Education” lays out a principles-based approach to educational equity for bilingual learners.  Dr. de Jong was President of TESOL International Association (2017-2018). She is the co-editor of the Handbook of Research on Dual Language Bilingual Education (Routledge, 2023) and co-Editor of the Bilingual Research Journal.

Today, we're diving into one of my favorite types of conversations- a community birth story. What makes this episode extra special is that it actually includes two birth stories. My guest reflects on both her first and second births, sharing how the challenges she faced during her initial pregnancy and postpartum experience shaped the decisions she made the second time around. To have this conversation with me today on Yoga|Birth|Babies I have Laura Moore. Laura is an Assistant Principal and former math teacher in the NYC department of Education. Even though she grew up in Texas, she feels more at home in NYC, having lived here for 14 years. She has been practicing yoga since 2018. She lives in Harlem with her husband Hal, 3.5 year old daughter Lucy and newborn son Hunter. In this episode, Laura opens up about the intentional changes she made going into her second birth- from choosing a different care provider to prioritizing her mental health and working through the trauma of her first pregnancy. Spoiler alert: Laura opted for an elective C-section the second time around. I especially appreciate how she shares this part of her journey, showing that cesarean birth can absolutely be an empowered, thoughtful choice- especially when you're supported by those around you and feel confident in your decision. More about Aliza:  Aliza Abrams Konig is the Director of Student Leadership at Yeshiva University. Throughout Aliza's career, she has worked within areas of student life, team building, creating curricula, and enriching the experiences of thousands of students through Experiential Education. Earlier in Aliza's career she served as the YU Director of Alumni Engagement, Assistant Principal at Central, Yeshiva University High School for Girls, Director of Student Life at Stern College, and as the Director of Jewish Service Learning for the University, where she built the service learning curriculum and established chessed missions around the world. Aliza is a member of the inaugural Wexner Field Fellows program through the Wexner Foundation. She has spoken worldwide in synagogues, community centers, and schools about leadership, education, faith, prayer and issues related to the contemporary Jewish family, dating, infertility, surrogacy and family, and is a sought-after consultant on surrogacy. Aliza holds a BA in Judaic Studies from Stern College, and a Master's in Social Work from the Wurzweiler School of Social Work and is now a doctoral candidate at Wurzweiler. His school was ranked in the Top 10 (comparable group) in the state of Texas for the four consecutive years that Dr. Nix was principal. Dr. Nix currently serves as the Chief Academic Officer in the Duncanville Independent School District. Dr. Nix has earned his Masters of Education in Educational Leadership, his Superintendent Certification and his Doctorate in Educational Leadership from Texas A&M Commerce University.
