Send us a textWe turn Single Barrel Saturday into a game plan, unpacking how Ohio builds the state's biggest bourbon drop, why the community makes the lines worth it, and which bottles deserve your first pick. Ann shares how barrels are selected, allocated, and revealed while we call out sleepers and strategy.• statewide single barrel release logistics and rules• why Ohio's bourbon IQ and culture raise the bar• store opt‑in process, training, and fairness in lines• using the OHLQ app and understanding UPC quirks• allocation logic and how variety is curated by store• value plays at multiple price points, including Dickel 15• sleeper alerts: Horse Soldier, Larceny, Frey Ranch• finish profiles explained: Mizanara, Calvados, Moscatel, Armagnac• bespoke WhistlePig blends and how picks get bottled• team-based barrel selection and palate diversity• tactics for rare targets like Willet purple tops• why the social hunt matters as much as the bottlesGet the OHLQ mobile app, enable push notifications, and subscribe to email for Saturday morning locationsThe countdown ends and the corks begin to pop. Single Barrel Saturday returns with more than 300 Ohio locations, a curated lineup that refuses to repeat itself, and a community energy that feels like bourbon's version of a block party. We brought Ann on to take us behind the scenes: how stores opt in, why allocation rules exist, what makes Ohio the fourth-largest American whiskey market, and how her team balances profiles so every table finds something to love.We get tactical without losing the fun. You'll learn how the OHLQ locator really works, when a UPC reveals a specific barrel (hello, Willet), and why some bottles land in waves months after the pick. We map price-to-proof-to-flavor value plays, call out sleeper hits—think a high-proof, double-digit Horse Soldier and under-the-radar Larceny—and explain the logic behind broader favorites like Dickel 15 that fly early because of low yields and near-barrel-strength bottling. If finishes are your thing, we dig into the flavor impact of Mizanara oak, Calvados, Moscatel, and Armagnac through the Dark Arts lineup and beyond. We also break down how Ohio builds its pick teams—staff, podcasters, bar owners, and seasoned enthusiasts—to triangulate barrels that are good for different reasons: classic, candy-coated, spice-forward, and curveball. Expect real talk on camping vs. store-hopping, looping etiquette, and the smartest first-pick priorities if you're eyeing Willet purple tops or a lone Heaven Hill Bottled-in-Bond single barrel. It's a field guide for a day that's equal parts hunt and hangout, where people open bottles in line and trade tips like set lists.Ready to plan your route? Follow the show, share this episode with your bourbon crew, and turn on OHLQ app notifications so you're first to see Saturday's locations. Il est mythique, peuple les mers et les imaginaires, mais qui est-il exactement et que fait-il de ses journées ? Comment lʹétudie-t-on ? Tasting Notes: The latest Orphan Barrel project is a fantastically tasty blend of Indiana, Kentucky, and Tennessee bourbons, all bottled at the Dickel distillery in Tullahoma. I'm glad to see they could pull this one off, as Dickel is not to everyone's taste, but they've managed to sweeten up the normally corn-heavy whiskey with MGP, along with some spice and elegance from an 18-year-old Kentucky bourbon as well. Doesn't matter where it came from, the juice is legit. Bottled at 90 proof, the palate is nougatty soft with caramel, vanilla, and a really balanced oak profile. This is a sipper for sure at this proof. REALLY impressed with this one.

Well, the Boys are at it again. They manage to pair two beautiful bottles that match perfectly, and they manage to act like middle-schoolers for most of the recording. You'll understand why once you know Matt brings the George Dickel and Leopold Bros Collaboration Rye. Drew brings the Tequila G4 Lot 12 Reposado aged in very old Dickel and charred French Oak barrels. It's a match made at the distillery! And it's perfect. The QuickSips™ really make this pairing, so pick up a bottle of each, invite your friends, sit back, sip along, and Make It A Happy Friday™. Cheers, Friends!
Tasting Notes: I've always considered the 84% corn Dickel one of the most rustic and flavorful whiskies on the market. And while Dickel sold and bottled under several non distiller producer labels may not be everyone's cup of tea, the original house bottled Dickel is one of the most consistently rich and easy drinking Tennessee whiskies out there. Enter the reserve "cask strength" at only 92 proof 17year old from Dickel's Master Distiller Nicole Austin. The nose has the same oak profile as a Stagg with massive spicy oak aromas mixed with peanut butter powder and lemon essence. On the palate, the high corn sweetness mixes with the oak to create a spice bomb of rich wood driven flavors. Walnut, toffee, apricots, dark fruit, and finally leather are all whipped up into a frenzy. One of the most powerful 92 proof whiskies I have ever tasted!

Tom Colicchio is a gastronomic icon. He also likes his tomato sauce out of a jar. Colicchio, who is the head judge and an executive producer of acclaimed TV reality competition “Top Chef” and the owner of award-winning restaurant group Crafted Hospitality, is a partner in Colicchio Kitchen, a premium brand of sauces and condiments that are positioned as high-quality and convenient products for home chefs. Recently rebranded from The Jersey Tomato Company, Colicchio Kitchen debuted at the 2023 Summer Fancy Food Show held from June 25-27, and showcased a broad range of products, including its Colicchio Collection of ultra-premium cooking and pairing sauces. In this episode, Colicchio spoke about his involvement in the brand and his role in the development of its products, his perspective on adding an ethnic-themed line, how he defines “good food” and why he's less intimidating than you might think. From tomato sauce in jars to cocktails in cans, this episode also highlights a remarkable partnership between upstart beverage company Social Hour and iconic spirit brand George Dickel. Launched in 2020, Social Hour markets premium RTD craft cocktails made with high-quality ingredients, including a Gin & Tonic, Whiskey Mule and Yuzu Sunset Fizz. In 2021, Social Hour aligned with legacy whiskey brand George Dickel to launch its seasonally-inspired Harvest Whiskey Sour, an expression made with Dickel's 13-year-old Tennessee whiskey and re-released the following year. The companies teamed up once again in 2023 to create the summer-themed Social Hour Bourbon Smash made with Dickel Bourbon, which was introduced in late June. Social Hour co-founder Tom Macy and Nicole Austin, the general manager and distiller of George Dickel whiskey spoke about the origins of the partnership, how the collaboration aligned the aims of both brands and how the relationship may develop down the line. Show notes: 0:48: Interview: Tom Colicchio, Partner, Colicchio Kitchen – Colicchio met with Taste Radio editor Ray Latif in New York City and spoke about his experience at the 2023 Summer Fancy Food, why growing up in New Jersey had a significant impact on his initial decision to develop a consumer brand and the companies expansion into condiments. He also discussed his evaluation of flavor and functional ingredients when it comes to great tasting food and Italian cuisine is the primary focus for Colicchio Kitchen. 14:04 Interview: Tom Macy, Co-Founder, Social Hour & Nicole Austin, General Manager/Distiller, George Dickel — Macy recalled his experience in BevNET Cocktail Showdown 2 competition and discussed how he has navigated an increasingly crowded RTD cocktail category. Austin spoke about her interest in creating a canned cocktail and why she jumped at the opportunity to work with Social Hour, how she and Macy attempted to reduce the red tape when creating the partnership between the two companies, why they chose to develop a Bourbon Smash and why they're not looking too far down the line for the next product. Brands in this episode: Colicchio Kitchen, Social Hour, George Dickel

A Sandwich and Some Pickle & Dickel Kellie is a bit emotional this podcast after binge-watching “Firefly Lane” and finishing it about 5 minutes before Allen pressed the record button. Thankfully, Allen took the reins for this podcast. First order of business — Allen reads a letter from a listener who was offended by him on the last podcast. Will this be another Battle of the A**holes? And why did someone slide into Kellie's DMs to call her a Karen??? One of the dogs is in trouble after destroying a very expensive dental appliance. Was it Larry or Zoey? You'll hear Allen's biased reaction. Planning a family vacation has become a matter of urgency for Allen and Kellie's son Dylan. Allen gave Hardy's new album “The Mockingbird & The Crow” a try. You'll get his review along with some “I was today years old” revelations. And finally, Allen had a listener encounter that led to a literal yogurt moment. Thank you to our podcast sponsor! When I think of Tennessee Whiskey and I'm not immediately singing Chris Stapleton I get one of two thoughts. Moonshine distilleries in the jewel of kitsch tourism in Gatlinburg/Pigeon Forge TN or Jack Daniels. But if you pay attention there's a ton of TN commodity whiskey going into blends of some of the largest and most sought after brands. It's also become a whiskey geek trope to poke fun at Dickel whiskey. In the early 2000's there were so few distilleries in the state that you could count them two hands. Now…there's a trail. Is Tennessee whiskey bourbon? It could be. Lets leave it there. https://www.tnwhiskeytrail.com/https://leipersforkdistillery.com/https://www.georgedickel.com/https://chattanoogawhiskey.com/https://www.wheelersraiddistillery.com/https://companydistilling.com/

The Cascade Hollow distillery located in Tullahoma, Tennessee has been operating since 1870 and is most known for the George Dickel Tennessee Whisky brand. The lesser know Leopold Brothers originally started as a beer brewing operation, but has recently made waves as a distillery. For this #Fryeday, we explore the George Dickel x Leopold Brothers collaboration rye. This break from exploring bourbon (in favor of rye) is accompanied by a discussion of a recent car chase in Kentucky, a shoutout to @thatoneduderyan, and a story about one of the first times that Michael, Anthony, and Steven hung out and tried George Dickel 13 year BIB. Will this Dickel x Leopold rye whisky delight our senses and palates or have us looking for something else? You'll have to listen to find out. -------------------------- Socials IG: https://www.instagram.com/themashupky FB: https://www.facebook.com/themashupky TW: https://twitter.com/themashupky Music: All the Fixings by Zachariah Hickman Thank you so much for listening!

On this episode we are going in blind! Normally we discuss spirits with the bottles in front of us and as much information as we can gather about what we are drinking. There are some out there that take a different approach, wanting to know as close to as little as possible about a spirit so they can judge it as objectively as possible. Enter Jon Boyer. Jon is the host of Blind Whiskey Reviews on YouTube, and he joined us on the show to put our blind skills to the test. 6 different spirits in pairs, a throughline in each pair. We tried to guess as much as we could about each spirit, including what it was, where it is from, the proof, the price point, the finish, and of course, what our scores were for each. What follows is not only a fun and insightful conversation, but also a fantastic experiment that revealed times where we completely nailed it and times where we were stumped. You will also learn how Jon conducts his blind reviews and how you can replicate that at home. Be sure to hop on YouTube and check out Jon's channel at Blind Whiskey Reviews when you're done with the podcast, click here: https://bit.ly/BlindWhiskeyReviews Click on any of the following links to purchase the spirits.
