Brian interviews Dr. Dayan Goodenowe. Dr. Goodenowe's research into the biochemical mechanisms of disease started in 1990. His curiosity about the biochemistry of life is as insatiable today as it was 30 years ago. In those 30 years, Dr. Goodenowe invented and developed advanced diagnostic and bioinformatic technologies, designed and manufactured novel and natural biochemical precursors, and identified biochemical prodromes of numerous diseases including Alzheimer's disease and dementia, Parkinson's disease, multiple sclerosis, stroke, autism, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, and cancers of the colon, pancreas, ovary, breast, lung, kidney, liver, stomach, and others. And he is just getting warmed up. Dr. Goodenowe is now going beyond disease and the detection of biochemical dysfunctions to diagnose and the correction of biochemical dysfunctions to treat disease. Dr. Goodenowe's new focus is to defeat the entropy of aging by creating strategic biochemical and biofunctional reserve capacity in advance of known disease risks such that the human body can maintain the physical and biological functions of life indefinitely and without disease. Dayan Goodenowe talks tonight about Brain Health!

Four very different and very interesting tales this week! Dan kicks us off with a story somewhere in west Texas that centers around some Black Eyed Children. MAYBE. If not BEK, than what? Then, a second story that is set in two different locations in South Carolina, that both claim to be haunted, and both share the same name: The Rose Hill Plantation. Lynze has two very unique tales this week. Her first explores vulture culture briefly and lost time and space amongst friends. What kind of chaos can you expect when exploring dead carcasses? Wrapping it up, the last tale is of astral projection. Such a heady concept that both Dan and Lynze have musings on. During the vibroacoustic therapy process, a client lies on the specially designed mat or bed or sits in a chair that is embedded with speakers or transducers which transmit specific computer-generated frequencies into vibrations. Since the human body is over 70% water and since sound travels 5 times more efficiently through water than through air, sound frequency stimulation directly into the body is a highly efficient means for total body stimulation at a deep cellular level. The term Vibroacoustic Therapy (VAT) was coined in the 1980s by the Norwegian therapist and educator, Olav Skille. Research in Europe and throughout North America has shown that audio waves in the range of 30Hz-120Hz transmitted through the vibroacoustic device have a very positive effect on various systems of the body

How do you handle angry people, who get all up in your face, without it affecting you? We have no idea, but that won't stop us from talking about it. If only you could flick a switch and turn off tens of thousands of years' worth of evolutionary fight-for-flight conditioning. Maybe Elon Musk will solve that for us too. One person who chose flight over fight this week was Sam Bankman-Fried, who manage to make tens of billions of dollars evaporate overnight. We do know that some of it went to the Democratic party, who, in a completely unrelated story, has said they don't want to investigate SBF, but they do want to investigate Elon Musk. We would also like to congratulate Dan Andrews for winning the Victorian election, which will be held later this month. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

http://hardcorezen.info/ Brad Warner was born in Ohio, grew up in Africa, and lived in Japan for eleven years, where he got ordained as a Zen monk. He now resides in the Hipsterville part of Los Angeles. He began sitting zazen when he was eighteen years old under the instruction of Tim McCarthy and was made a dharma heir of Gudo Nishijima Roshi in the futuristic year 2000. He also travels the world showing people how to sit down and shut up. He has given talks and led Zen meditation retreats in the United States, Canada, England, Scotland, Northern Ireland, Finland, the Netherlands, Germany, France, Poland, Israel, Belgium, Spain, and Japan. His books have been translated into fewer languages than those of anyone you've ever seen on the cover of a meditation magazine, but there are editions in Finnish, Polish, German, and Greek. And supposedly there's one in Hebrew, but he's never seen a copy. Or maybe he has but doesn't know it because he can't read Hebrew. He wishes someone would point it out to him somewhere if the book actually exists. He plays bass guitar in the hardcore punk band Zero Defex (0DFx). He has had major roles in several movies, including Zombie Bounty Hunter M. D. and Shoplifting from American Apparel. He also wrote, produced, and directed his own film, Cleveland's Screaming. Plus, he made five albums for Midnight Records under the semi-fictional band name Dimentia 13. When he's not doing zazen, Brad can be found at record stores all over the world searching for obscure psychedelia and songs to add to his incredible cheesy seventies playlist. He enjoys bad science fiction movies and cats, though dogs are okay too. He's a vegetarian but tries not to be a total pain in the ass about it.

My guest today is Phazha Bothongo, a 23 year old South African, born in Botswana, and currently living in the United Kingdom. She has completed her MSc. in Neuroscience and Translational Medicine at Queen Mary University of London (QMUL) and went on to do PhD at the Preventive Neurology Unit, Wolfson Institute. In this episode, we learn that the one particular life event influenced her choice of getting into the field of science, was when her grandfather was diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease. She discovered there was no cure for it and went on to study to pursue Neuroscience. Phazha chose this field so that her research can have an impact and contribute to the knowledge of neuroscience. The PhD research is focused on the effects of socio-economic deprivation and ethnicity on the risk of dementia in Black and Minority Ethnic (BAME) groups in comparison to the White population. Black African and Caribbean, are at risk and to more likely develop dementia at a younger age and get diagnosed for early-onset dementia (before 65 years), than their White counterparts. This research is so important as there is very little research on the Black demographic. Interesting right? Well, you better tune to learn more about Phazha breaks this research down for us, including so much more! At the halftime of life, it would seem like you could finally make the time for music and art in your life. You've always wanted to get back to those piano lessons you quit so long ago. But you keep putting it off—life is so busy! However, more and more studies show that benefits abound with the addition of music and art in your life. The arts have the power to stimulate the brain in profound and long-term ways. One of the keys to adding music and art back in your life and creating some “you time” is finding a community. In music this can be an online community that will help you get back to your instrument or voice. For art, there are community classes in colleges and local cities including ceramics, pottery paint and sip studios and more. Do something for yourself, your brain and your stress level. It's time to enjoy the arts in a more significant way once again! Daniel Kenner's parents had always been loving, giving people who gave all they had to the world. Their ability to do that declined sharply when his father was diagnosed with dimentia and his mother, shortly after, with cancer. Daniel took every opportunity to support them, but also to ask them questions and hear their stories. Putting his life on hold, as so many caregivers do, he took advantage of this precious, short time in which he knew he would soon be without them. The resulting book, Room for Grace, kept him company in his grief and honored the gifts they had given him all his life.

Cheryl Crofoot Knapp is passionate about using her life experiences to encourage others. She is a devoted wife, mother, daughter, sister, friend, speaker, author, blogger, and Mrs. Minnesota-America 1996. Her book, Undefeated Innocence: How God Helped My Parents and Me Navigate the Alzheimer's Journey, combines personal and humorous anecdotes with Biblical truths to share His hope and encouragement to caregivers, and includes factual information and research. Cheryl was a caregiver for her parents who both died of Alzheimer's. She cried out to God, “Where are you in Alzheimer's?” Undefeated Innocence is a study of the Beatitudes with the fruit of the Spirit, and includes lessons and tools she learned in caregiving. Undefeated Innocence is a challenge to find God's calling and to know that His grace is always sufficient. Cheryl believes that those who have been through much are called to give much. She encourages readers to find passionate patience, look for life's collateral beauty, and recognize that it's okay to store toothpaste in an underwear drawer. She and her husband are members of First Baptist Church of Mountain Home (Arkansas). She participates in Walks to End Alzheimer's and has served in Bible study, worship, evangelism, and prison ministries. She founded Regifted Grace Ministry and shares her contagious faith at conferences, retreats, banquets, and churches, as well as on television and radio.
